Microsoft office problem on MacBook Air

I had Microsoft Office installed when I bought my new MacBook Air. First time I used PowerPoint it froze when I tried to access Clip Art browser.  A little coloured spinning dot came up and continued for ages and I had to reboot several times.  I brought it back to retailer and they rang Apple support who say it is a Microsoft problem.  I have been fobbed off the retailer even though they installed it. I paid a lot of money for this and am very unhappy that nobody can help me.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Marlane1,
Yes, I am actually from Australia, so I try to use American numbers and laws to help people, as America would have a substantial majority of users on this site.
I agree that the Company that you bought it from needs to take responsibility and give you a refund.
This website states your consumer rights, they are pretty much identical from ACCC (Aus version) FTC (Us version). Yours would come under a faulty good and under your law, they must give you a refund. Then using this refund purchase it from Apple Store closest to you.
Apple cannot do much as it is not downloaded from them or the App store however, if you take the laptop in, they might have a look? Depends on how happy they are!!
Good Luck and remember your consumer rights: https://www.gov.uk/consumer-protection-rights
Anything that a sales person says to you, can be used as a guarantee and therefore you can say that you asked them to do it for the reason of issues, they did that therefore as they did this they have to fix or replace.

How can I download the latest Microsoft Office for my Macbook Air through the App Store?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Microsoft Office is not available in the App Store. Instead, you can purchase it in the Microsoft site > http://www.microsoft.com/mac
Note that there are other apps that do the same, like Apple iWork (available in the Mac App Store) or LibreOffice, open-source and free. I recommend you to give LibreOffice a try.
If you are interested in Office for Windows, you can find it in the Microsoft Store or at shops

  • How can I get Microsoft office onto my Macbook Air?

I need to use Microsoft office instead of Pages and Keynote because they are not compatible with my teacher's files. However my macbook air does not have the cd/dvd slot so how could I get Microsoft office onto my macbook? Help is appreciated! I really need it for my classes!!!!

You have a couple of options.
    1) Buy a external DVD drive that connects by USB port. Any brand will work on your Mac. It doesn't have to have the Apple name on it for it to work. Most cost around $30.
    2) If you have the office DVD take it to a Mac that has a DVD drive and copy the DVD contents to a USB thumb drive then install from that thumb drive.
    3) Fine the DMG download of the office version you have.
Note that only Office 2008 and the newest 2011 will work on a Mac running Lion or Mt Lion. The older 2004 version won't install on newer Mac computers.

Hey everyone, I'm still making the dission between whatt mac to buy but if i bought the macbook air how will i be able to get micrOsoft office on it since it dosen't have a SuperDrive? Thanks ;)

MS seels keys online, then you download.
Or if you have another Mac with a SuperDrive you can use "Target Mode" (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mchlp1443.html).

  • Can I download Microsoft office FREE in macbook air?

So  I have a macbook air and i really need microsoft offie word, but can i download it online in the internet? Thank you if you help me

No. That would be against the law. You have to pay for it.
You can try a free alternative if you like, like open office, but you're not going to instructions on how to commit a crime here.

  • Is there any way for me to download microsoft office on my macbook air and it will write in different languges like hebrew without looking wierd ?

I can not find how to download microsoft office from the apps in the appstore and have it work in hebrew . i need to be able to write in hebrew and that the letters will not mess up on the page . help ..

MS Office for Mac has never supported Hebrew/Arabic  scripts.  You have to use something else.  Mellel is best, but Pages 5, TextEdit, Nisus Writer, or Open/LibreOffice should also work OK.

  • Microsoft Office problems on Macbook.

I bought Office for Mac a few years back and used it on both my iMac and my Macbook. I used my final download on my friends new Macbook, and she's been having problems with it.
Her Microsoft word (for example) doesn't have a "file" option up at the top. It's missing the ability to save documents where you want them/name them ect.
I don't know what else is missing yet, but what should I do to fix this?

Office forums are available on Microsoft's website at http://www.officeformac.com/productforums

  • How do I uninstall MS office from my macbook air?

I recently installed MS Office onto my Macbook Air.  Previously I have been using Apple products (Pages etc) but this was proving unhelping for collaborating with Windows based colleagues.  I have used OUtlook for sometime so the additions were XLS, PPT and Word.  These do not launch and indeed I cannot open any legacy document on my computer.  Grateful for advice.  Ideally I would like to be able to use word etc on my macbook.

When I click on any of the software icons in the dock or from the Applications folder, a text box comes up to say the programme has encountered a problem and needs to close.  There is also some text about reporting the problem etc.  This has affected Word, Excel and PPT with no improvement.
I'm sure the programmes should and can work, but not unfortunately in this instance.

  • Can i use microsoft office on my macbook pro and from where should i download it?

can i use microsoft office on my macbook pro and from where should i download it?

I don't use Office myself so can't really offer advice. I don't recall seeing your issue before. Maybe someone who uses Office will be able to help.
As this thread is marked as solved it won't get the attention your query warrants. It would be a good idea to start your own thread discussing the problem - I'm sure someone here will offer the right advice/help.
Make sure you note what Mac your have and what version of OS X you are running.

  • Will installing Microsoft office on my mac air 2gb 64mb slow my system down, I don't have music or big files currently on my device?

If I install Microsoft office on my mac air 2gb 64mb, will it slow my system down?  I also have a macbook pro that i dont take out the house with Microsoft office already installed.  Am I best to install Pages on the mac air or will it cause compatibility issues when working on files between the two devices?
    Any help appreciated

The big question I have is this: is it your intention to work on the same documents on both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro? If so, I strongly suggest that you pick one program and use it on both. Pages and Word are both good word processors but they really are not compatible - rather Pages can read Word files and be forced to create Word files. But the reading and writing isn't perfect and sometimes the amount of work required to re-edit a translated file is substantial.
Installing Office on the MacBook Air isn't going to slow it down unless your hard drive is already very full and Word should run okay on it (though you might not be able to run Word at the same time as you run other programs).

What do you get microsoft office on my macbook?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Microsoft has got an Office version for Mac, that you can get from its site > http://www.microsoft.com/mac
Also, there are other productivity suites:
    1. iWork. It's the Apple's productivity suite and it includes Pages, Numbers and Keynote. You can purchase it at the Mac App Store.
    2. LibreOffice. It's free and open-source, so you should try it first > http://www.libreoffice.org

You did not steal my thunder. You asked for advice, I provided advice. I assumed that since you nor the "support team" could find your files that you did not have any backup. You should have told us you do regular backups. We have no way to know otherwise unless you tell us.
