Microsoft Office won't run on new computer

I bought a new G5 and did the complete disk transfer when I booted the new system up. Now I'm getting a message that says the "test drive" of Office is complete and I need to register a new product. Can anyone tell me why this is and how I fix it without having to buy another very expensive software package.

I just got a Mac mini and had the same problem. On investigating my Applications folder, it seemed that I'd transferred the old Microsoft Office stuff okay through my firewire, but there was also a 'test drive' version of it in there as well. This meant I could open Word / Excel etc fine from the dock, and then open documents within it, but if I tried to click on a document in the finder window or on the desktop, I got the 'test drive has expired' message.
Deleting the test drive version seems to have got round the problem. (Although just occasionally a file won't open, and gives me some other kind of error message which I can't remember, and of course it won't do it now!)
However, one problem I am having is that it won't automatically open Word attachments in Mail, and I have to manually tell it which program to use every time. Anyone know how to fix this one?

  • Microsoft Office X wont run on new iMac

is this older office product not compatible??

Mac Office X is the first version of MS Office after the original Mac OS X 10.0 was released, so it's about 7 years old. Back then, Macs were PowerPC-based, so in addition to being old, you are using the Rosetta module to translate PowerPC code into Intel code, so that's another layer of complexity. It works most of the time, but not for all programs. I wouldn't be surprised if it did not work with Leopard (10.5) on an Intel Mac.
Microsoft no longer has any updates for version X, just for Office 2004 and 2008.
However, the updater is available on here
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24851
You can give it a shot, but it might be an issue with the it not working with Intel Macs.
What happens when you try to run it?

  • Moneywell won't run on new computer

I just purchased a new imac.  I transferred applications from my macminit from a backup drive.  When I try to run the Moneywell application, it wants me to log into the Mac App store and install it. The Mac App Store application says it is installed.  So far, everything else I purchased from the app store works.

This thread concerns applications for Mac.
The problem was generated when using the migration assistant on a disk from my previous computer.  This resulted in the situation where the Mac App Store thinks the application is installed, but when running the application, the application code sees itself as not installed correctly.  Simply deleting the versions did not work. The Mac App Store still found the application installed.  The problem was resolved by searching the disk to find associated configuration files.  Once these were deleted, the Mac App Store sees the application as uninstalled and will allow the application to be installed.
    Thank You.

I believe that all audiobooks are supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them requiring the one-time only download. If your startup disk says it is full, you need to remove some of your stuff.
Either move some documents/movies/pictures to an external drive (if you want to keep them), or delete them from your startup drive. Then, empty the Trash.
If you move them to an external, you will still have to delete them from the internal drive.
That won't fix Office (I don't think), but it will make everything run better. You need a minimum of 10GB free (more would be better).
You might need to reinstall Office. It should work without problem (well, at least as little problem as Office can muster).

  • My processer won't run the new update ?

I have an iBook G4. After downloading the new version of Firefox it will not run so I have to continue with the older version. I continuously get messages telling me my version is out of date which is getting annoying.
Apple want me to buy a new computer at about £1000 which I can't afford.even if I could, the old programmes won't run on new processors so I would the have to buy them all again. not a good AD for apple? Greed rears it's ugly head!!!.

  • How can I change the Microsoft Office Click to Run from drive letter 'Q' to something else?

How can I change the Microsoft Office Click to Run from drive letter 'Q' to something else?
We have a legacy app that used drive letter 'Q' already, now the newer machines are coming in with 'Q' preassigned to Microsoft Office Click to Run, and it is causing problems.  There has to be a way to change the drive letter assignment to some
    other letter besides 'Q'

    Hi,
Office that is delivered by Click-to-Run is installed on the Q drive, this cannot be changed.
To work around this problem, uninstall the Click-to-Run version of Office and then install with the traditional MSI-based installation.
To switch to using an MSI-based Office edition, you can learn something useful from this link below:

  • I am trying to update my mac to os x snow leopard but the cd won't run on my computer

I am trying to update my mac to os x snow leopard but the cd won't run on my computer. I'm using an external dvd hardrive but I don't see why that would make a difference in wether or not it runs.

Well, that may be the cause of the no install problem, as Snow Leopard does require at least 1gB of RAM. The Apple link below will show how it is installed.

I have a MacBook Pro 2011.  I allowed updates to install for iTunes software and Microsoft office (I think).  After rebooting, computer wouldn't progress past grey apple screen with loading circle.  No progression bar ever appeared.  It just sits and spins.  I tried rebooting with Command + Option + R + P and hearing the chime twice....this did not work.
I also tried Command +Option+R which took me to internet recovery.  From there, I chose reinstall Mac OS X Lion 10.7 but it says my hard drive is locked so I wasnt able to select it.  What do I do???? Help!  I don't want to lose my files and it doesnt appear that I've used Time Machine Back Up.

I you upgraded to OS X 10.8, then use RecoveryHD by holding Command R at boot time (no option) and reinstall OS X over itself that way so your installing  Mountain Lion.
Also Disk Uility can be used to Repair the Macintosh HD parttion.
Also you can use that RecoveryHD to format and install OS X onto a external drive, then option/alt key boot from it and access your files on the non-booting internal drive before erasing, reformatting and reinstalling OS X fresh.

I replaced Firefox 3.6 with version 4 which won't run on my computer. How can I reinstall Firefox 3.6?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox

  • IPhone won't sync to new computer w/library from old computer HELP!

Got an iPhone4 for Christmas... already had many, many Gs of music on my PC.  Installed iTunes, purchased some music from iTunes, Amazon, sync'd some to my iPhone.  Backed up *all* my music onto flash drive(s). (PC was +10yrs old).  PC dies.  Get new-to-me computer replacement from my husband's office (some ghosts from previous user still exist). Do my best to locate all previous owners music and delete.  Load all my music from my flash drive onto new-to-me PC.  iTunes can't 'see' my music.  Figure out where library from previous PC owner is, re-direct iTunes from that library to my data.  Go onto iTunes and authorize new-to-me computer using same userid so now all library history info related to that userid should now be linked w/this newer-to-me PC, right?  Purchase more music from iTunes.  Try to sync iPhone to my iTunes account using new-to-me computer, and it wants to erase my iPod and associate it with "this iTunes library."  Crap.  I just want to put 3 newest songs onto my iPhone, which I purchased, fair & square.
1)How do I 'de-authorize' my old PC?  It is no longer alive or bootable.
2)How can I convince iTunes that the library on this newer-to-me PC is the library from my old PC, plus more added while on this newer-to-me PC and the library on my iPhone are really one-and-the-same library all belonging to me fair and square?
3)Is there a way to transfer songs onto my iPhone without iTunes running an inventory on my iPhone to try to automatically add or delete songs that are checked or unchecked?  I don't want my entire library on my iPhone.
4)Will I have to remember to ensure every song that I want to stay on my iPhone are always checked in iTunes before syncing my iPhone to my iTunes, even when I only want to make a couple of changes? (if yes, I'll just skip that step and insert the pins in my eyes now.)
Don't get me wrong, I really LOVE my iPhone, I just really don't love a lot of the built-in 'features' of iTunes as I currently understand things.  I'd be a lot happier if iTunes were a dummer program and totally manual, in the way the older vs of MSWindows Media Player is.  (I cannot beleive I just had to admit that I like a Windows SW product over an Apple one! Deffinitely a sign of the appololypse - hope you're a 'prepper.')
Please help me.  I am so weary of the days and hours I've spent trying to find/read the answers to my questions on my own.  Many thanks.
    Brianne

    Hey Roaming Gnome,
hope you're having a good day!  Thanks so much for the info... although I don't really like the reality of the answers...  The answers were depressing (through no fault of your own-you were just passing on the info I asked for-I get that part and appreciate your help) so I went away to lick my wounds and gain the strength to tackle this project.  So, here's the deal, I did back up all the songs that were on my old PC, both the "My Music" folder and the "iTunes" folder within.  All on flash drive.  That computer died, cannot be resuscitated, drive HD erased/shredded, PC now in pieces... fine, I have my music, what do I care, right? (yeah, I know, wrong)  I loaded all my music onto my new-ish/replacement PC.  Not yet syncing my iPhone... Then, from my new-ish PC, I purchased some music and a few TV shows from iTunes and some music from Amazon (I had gift cards).  Then I purchased more music from the iTunes store using my phone.  Also, before my old PC died, I had downloaded (I thought), an app and some free ringtones using my iPhone.  However, I eventually discovered that they aren't *really* installed/downloaded (only the free app I got off the iTunes store is downloaded/installed). Found this out when I went to try to use a ringtone, couldn't locate them on my phone, and weren't showing up on my PC in my iTunes library... I finally found something on the app that said something about I have to sync my phone to my iTunes library, in some different way... (?)  then download them from my iTunes library back to my phone. (huh?) This didn't make sense to me, so I never did it, because I just didn't have the time to figure it out, then execute it.... at that time.
I also never took the time to set up the free part of my iCloud account because, again I didn't have time to try to figure it out, and didn't think I'd really have to have it I had all my music on my flash drive (wrong again).
    1) So, how can I get my purchases (the ones that exist only on my iPhone, including rights to the free ring-tones) into my iTunes library, and or iCloud, without losing them all?
Once I do this, I can back everything up, then sync my iPhone to my only iTunes library, which I realize will wipe my phone clean, then re-copy everything back onto my iPhone. (I can't wait to start this process... do you think it will be done before Christmas?)
2)Also, will syncing my iPhone to what it thinks is a 'new' library, will it delete anything on my computer that wasn't in the library last time I sync'd my phone to my library?  I really don't want to pay for the TV shows again, or spend the stupid hours I spent/lost searching through and collecting the ringtones that I wanted?  I burned the hours thinking, "if I just spend the time now, I'll never have to do this again."
3)On a slightly separate issue, the iCloud listing on my iPhone in the 'Settings' menu is light gray, and does not respond when I tap on it or hold my finger on it.  Ideas?
    4) In the future, if I get a new computer to replace the one I'm using, what are the steps I should take to keep me from losing music I own, existing in my iTunes library, on my PC and/or iPhone, And, cause me the least amount of heartburn possible when migrating my music world over to a replacement PC?  I don't expect this will be my last PC in life - or I'd like to think I'll outlive this PC. Can I avoid all problems by just naming the new computer the same thing as the last one?  Or does the iPhone/iTunes SW know more than just the name of the computer?  Sorry this is so long.  It would be shorter if iPhone/iTunes SW were dumb... we'd all be enjoying chips & margaritas by now. ;^}

  • My documents ending in .cwk won't open on new computer.

I had a mac running OS X 10.4. It ran Appleworks. All my documents are .cwk
My computer crashed and I purchased a new one. I have an external harddrive and was able to pull alot of my stuff off of it. This new computer runs OS X10.8. It won't open my .cwk documents. Can anyone tell me how to get it to open it? Do I need to purchase some program to be able to open my old documents???
Thanks for any help you can provide.

AW should be at version 6.2.9 (it probably is in Tiger).
Just drag WP file onto the Pages icon in the Dock, or a SS file onto the numbers icon. Likewise presentation files onto the Keynote icon.
Or you can right-click on the file and use the "open with" dialogue to choose the relevant application.
    Databases are less easy.
You can export AW DB files as ASCII text files which can then be imported into Numbers. Not ideal, but OK for simple lists.
You can then export them as .csv files which can be imported to most third-party database applications.
{Update; since writing this I've been informed that you can simply change the ASCII extension to .csv and import them directly without the intermediate step.
I don't have a means of checking that as I no longer have Bento (hated it).
    If you decide to try it, make sure you use a duplicate file before trusting your important data to the method}
For drawing and paint files, Intaglio looks OK, but pricey. You may find others with a bit of searching, but that's the only current app I found that claims to open AW draw and paint files (as distinct from MacPaint and MacDraw).

  • Unable to open SharePoint 2010 task from any Microsoft Office application - cannot open a new form (schema validation errors)

I can’t get the Microsoft Office SharePoint Task integration to work with any SharePoint 2010 Workflows.  When any end user clicks the “Open this task…”
button from outlook (or any other office application) a warning dialog appears stating that:
    “Outlook cannot open a new.
The form contains schema validation errors.”
    The error details are:
Element '{http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml}div' is unexpected according to content model of parent element '{http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2009/WSSList/dataFields}Body'.
    Some points to note:
I can replicate this using on several computers running as different users.
I have full control over the site and the task I am trying to open.
When I navigate via the SharePoint site I can open the task.
The Info Path form that cannot be opened was automatically created by automatically SharePoint designer / InfoPath.  I have subsequently deleted the form and published
the workflow (which created the InfoPath form again).
I am running Mircosoft Office Professional Plus 2010 version 14.0.5128.5000 (32-bit)
One workaround is to remove the “Open this task…” button as per
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010general/thread/eb273ee9-6a4b-409c-8eb0-5351bb113386/. This is not ideal and will be my last resort.
Any suggestions and or thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks!

Yes, I tried that.  It did not work for me.
I have 4 site collections.  The main site collection is the only one that I receive the error.
When the user clicks on the email link  and opens the document for approval, they receive the following error when they click on "Open This Task".
Element '{http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml}a is unexpected according to content model of
    parent element '{http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2009/WSSList/dataFields}Body'.
There is nothing wrong with the task list itself, just the link from the Office 2010 client.
I am wondering if there is a web config or other file on the server that is specific to the site collection??
