Microsoft has some limitations over there products.... So that many developers can't perform their actual capabilities. Isn't it right that a costumer could use their belongings as they want???

No. of Columns limitations in Essbase Excel retrieval.

Dear All,
May I know the number of columns that Excel Essbase add-in supports. We are facing an issue while retreiving data for 261 columns in excel 2007 version fom Essbase 9.3.0 server.
Earlier I came across the situation that Essbase add-in for 2003 will support only 256 columns.
Please advise ASAP.

1. 256 columns was not a essbase excel add in constraint , but its of 2003 microsoft excel limitation,as it has 65,536 row limitation.
2. Coming to 2007, they have increased number of possible columns from 256 to 16384 ,so should be able to retrieve more columns technically. I dont see it as excel add in issue again. But i have not checked with so many columns , but from 2007 excel perspective they have defintely increased from 256 and also increase the row count from 65536 to more than a million.

Installing new HDD after Windows XP to Windows 7 upgrade on my T400

A few weeks ago I did a clean install to upgrade my T400 laptop from Windows XP to Windows 7 Professional, using the upgrade version of Windows 7 (vs. the complete new installation version - saved about $100.00).
Now I want to upgrade my HDD from 250GB to 500GB. I purchased the HDD from Lenovo, expecting the drive to come with some guidance for the upgrade other than how to physically replace the drive. Unfortunately, no such help found.
I have researched this and I think I have a few options. I could 1) clone my current hard drive or 2) do a clean reinstall on the new drive.
While looking over Microsoft's knowledge base I came a cross an article that said that I couldn't use the Windows 7 upgrade disk on a new hard drive. The article said I would first have to recover the original Windows XP OS onto my laptop, and then use the upgrade disk. Is that right? Do I really have to start over (upgrading to Windows 7 was a bear)?
If I clone my hard drive (I have the necessary hardware & software) will the upgraded Windows 7 be operable on the new hard drive?
I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.

You should be fine with cloning the drive. Microsoft normally limits the "upgrade" to only installing over an already existing Windows or a drive with Windows on it. So yes, it is not going to install on a bare drive for you.
As long as the clone aligns the partition properly, if necessary, then the cloned drive should operate fine. I cloned my initial HDD when upgrading to an SSD. Windows might require you to re-verify the machine because of the hardware change. However, changing only one component is not supposed to trigger the verification process. Once you know that it is working properly, you Windows license probably requires you to delete it from the old drive.
When asking for help, post your question in the forum. Remember to include your system type, model number and OS. Do not post your serial number.

Oracle 11g on Windows 7 (2)

I have successfully installed Oracle 11gR1 on Windows 7 Home Premium Edition. The database is up and running, however, I cannot create
Windows users and groups (probably due to the version), so that I can execute Export and Import jobs.
Is there a workaround for this issue?

Is there a workaround for this issue?The issue you are facing is a limitation in Windows Home editions. It is one of the many reasons we encourage people to use a certified configuration.
You might have better luck in learning how to bypass the Microsoft configuration limitations if you ask in a Windows-related forum.

Do Not Expand on Drill Across/Down

Hi All,
I am having Two Restricted KeyFigures Called Short Term and Long Term. The Short term is restricted with Fiscal Month(Say X) for a range of one year and the Long term is restricted with the same variable but Greater than Or Equal X. So the Long term contains lots of Data as the infocube has the future data also.
Now the problem is when I do a Drill Across/Down on Fiscal Month the result exceeds the Microsoft Excel Limitations(Colunms 255).
Is there any way that Restricted KeyFigure ' Long term' should not expand when i do a drill across/down.that is how can i disable the drill across function on the Long Term Restricted key figure.
Your ideas will be appriciated with points.

Try this:
Take a Virtual hierarchy on Fiscal year/period characterstic (which you have taken in the free characterstic area). So it will avoid display of all Individual values at a time. User can drill down on the hierarchy , if he want to do it. That also, will alow to drill down for a specific year and not at a time all.

Installing new HDD

I have a 1.6Ghz with 1Gb ram iMac G5 model. First generation. It has the factory installed 80Gb hard drive. I am wanting to upgrade this to a 1Tb Seagate hard drive I found on Amazon. Some questions I have about this are: 1. Will there be heating issues involved? Currently running safari and mail I hover around 60-65C on my cpu. 2. I read somewhere it needs to be 1.5Gb, this one is 3.0Gb. Will it still work?

How to open with uploaded document

Hi, I need upload my document online and then preview the uploaded document to check if it worked. Unforturnatly, I was unable to open the preview, error massege stated an error occured repeatedly, but I could save it and then open it which is not fit the case of intended party. The document is word doc, with the microsoft word 2004. the ducument was created on MacBook OS X 10.6.8. I am wodering if it is that becasue the microsoft word 2004 is too old for this particular site. (I was ABLE to open the uploaded document in different sites).
If this it the case, how can I get free and relative newer Microsoft Word?

If you are in college, check with your school. Many colleges have an arrangement for faculty and students to purchase Microsoft products at a reduced price, or even free.

Hey Harald,
It looks like since the software is deprecated by Microsoft, it limits the amount of support we offer to what is in the help file. Since the software is no longer supported it, it may be difficult to find other pieces of software that will integrate well with it. I would recommend moving to a more recent version or using a different type of report generation which has better documentation. This also help because more people will be familiar with the newer software. What is your application? Would it be possible to make this change?

Columns for 9.0 version

When the album column sorts the music by year, it disregards the tracks disc numbers, so it will only sort tracks by track number. How can I fix this?

The first two paragraphs are OK but then I fail to understand anymore.

What on earth does that mean??? Can M$ legally use the new Java2 products, like swing and collections?

Also the thing about opennes... When will there be a proper jdk written for BSD systems? Why is it taking so long? I am sure that if the JDK was really open under a GPL style license many developers would be happy to work on porting it to those systems - for free.

The purpose is to make the entire issue appear to be Microsoft's fault (the old "pile on" syndrome). Microsoft is under the gun, so everyone feels free to blame everything on Microsoft.
There is plenty of blame to go around here, on both sides. Microsoft attempted to "pollute" Java by optimizing it for the Windows platform, but in the process ran afoul of Sun's licensing restrictions. As a result, Sun sued and won. Under the terms of the suit, Microsoft can (not MUST, but CAN) continue to distribute it's version of the VM for 7 years. After that, it's pretty much up to the lawyers what can be done, but from the language of the settlement it looks like Microsoft would have to stop distributing Java technology (it's own or anyone else's). If that's the case, then it does make sense for Microsoft to go ahead and drop Java, and leave it up to a third party to "bundle" Java with Windows. A perfect opening for Sun to step in and save the day (not to mention that fact that Windows users are currently stuck with an older VM, which seems to me a reason for developers to avoid the Microsoft VM anyway).
My problem with Sun in all of this is the assumption that Java is enough of a standard that it should be included with Windows by default. Java is a Sun product, regardless of how it is being managed. If Sun wants Java on Windows, Sun should negotiate with Microsoft to include it, just like others negotiate with Microsoft. If Sun doesn't want to negotiate with Microsoft (and who could blame them), Sun needs to come up with a distribution mechanism - perhaps negotiate with the OEMs to bundle Java in new machines?
Just because a lot of developers like Java, and some web sites use it, that does not make Java a standard (by those criteria, ActiveX is also a standard). Sun needs to re-think it's Java approach, and either 'fess up to Java being proprietary or completely open it up - relinquish control to some non-Sun entity.

I got created a fonts collections in fonts catalog.app and i can see them in collections in the program microsoft word, unfortunately in InDesign CC is not posible, only got all the list of fonts available in the computer, the option to reduce the view of fonts is favorites or restrict by part of the name or type. I believe this feature most by included as default in InDesign CC. Manage fonts collection is a pretty good option to view big differents type of fonts selected together. even the smart collection are not visibles.

InDesign users use normally paragraph styles and character style, no need to sort out font collections. only when you set up the styles.
NEVER work without styles, don't us style overrides.
But you can type in any part of the font name and you get all fonts with this expression in the name, not necessary the first letters.

Is there a work-around to enable Digital Photo Pro on the Microsoft Surface Pro ????

Is there a way to use Digital Photo Pro on the Microsoft Surface Pro?
As I understand the problem DPP is unable detect the screen resolution of the tablet ( the defauilt res of the tablet
is 1920 x1080) with a minimum of 1024 x768.
It would be usful if one could type in your working screen res into at startup if that's the only problem
___I've looked at other screen drivers from Intell but I realize if I could install thrm I'de lose the touch functionallity

Canon DPP is Canon provided application for desktop/laptop computers and they don't have a version for any tablets as far as I'm aware (not even iOS or Android versions).
But there are other photo editing programs that would work. I have an iPad. While Apple has their own photo software (which isn't going to work on a Windows tablet) Adobe has an app called PS Touch.
PS Touch isn't nearly as full featured as Photoshop. It limits the image resolution (it resizes any images that you import to it so they don't exceed the max resolution) but it does have most of the commonly used adjustments. So if a person were just trying to get something out, it works in a pinch.
One other catch is that PS Touch can't deal with RAW images... so it's JPEG only. But I can import JPEGs off the card into the iPad and then edit them -- not as well as I can if they're on a regular computer, but this is what I'ved when I'm away for a weekend with my camera.

It never tries to restart. Can anyone please help? The server checks for health all come back ok. I will be more than glad to include further information.

Basic on the error message, I notice that public folder migrate slow and display that “Relinquishing job because of large delays due to unfavorable server health or budget limitations” .
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Since it is just slow and not failing, please do not stop the batch, it might connect to another server for sync.
