Microsoft Sharepoint Designer 2013 encountered an error during setup

I'm trying to install SharePoint Designer 2013 on my system, but I keep getting this error with no other detail.  Looking into the SetupExe log file that the event viewer pointed to didn't really identify anything that would point me
to the culprit (or at least nothing I could decipher).  I am running Windows 7 (64 bit) and Office 2010 (32 bit).  Anyone run into this before?

I am also trying to install SP Designer 2013 (32-bit) on my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit OS with MS Office 2010 32-bit and getting the same error about 30% into the install.  I have attempted to uninstall other 3rd party programs and apps for example Citrix
and Skype and still no success.  I tried booting up in safe mode and get the same error right at the onset of the install.
Update:  Tried a "clean boot"  install and that also failed.

(the html editor over here is a pain you know where - not even bold text is working...)
Every time I try to install SP 2013 SP1 on my WS 2012 R2 Update virtual machine the installer dies.
NOTE: I can reproduce this any time. Both the SharePoint 2013 (including SP1) .iso as well as the WS 2012 R2 (including Update) .iso are fresh copies out of the MSDN library.
The installation fails where the installer tries to install the binaries. No configuration wizard yet. I made sure all the prerequisites are there. The PreRequisitesInstaller.exe reboots the virtual machine several times (twice) and then it is all set.

UPDATE: Installing office prior to the sharepoint installation had no effect (solution was suggested  here).
UPDATE: Installing all windows updates (for Windows Server and Office client applications) didn't help either... same error.
UPDATE: I made sure my windows server and sharepoint server images are exactly those you can currently find on MSDN. SHA1 hashes match.

I just did a Server 2012 R2 and SP 2013 w/ SP1 install the other night on Hyper-V running on 8.1 Pro without issues. ISO was from MSDN.
Have you run a crc (or md5, forget what is used) to validate the ISO matches what MSDN says it should be?

    Hi Jose,
When server 2012 will not allow pre-requisite to run, due to the ASP.NET 3.5 or 4.5, do this:
    Run, from admin command prompt:

  • Microsoft office professional 2013 encountered an error during setup

Trying to install the 32 bit version of Office 2013.  Planning to keep all my old versions.  I have Access 2002 and 2003 that I need.  Was not installing Outlook 2013 as Outlook 2010 is the only Office app that I care if I have issues with
and my IT dept controls a a bit more.  Getting the error "microsoft office professional 2013 encountered an error during setup" with no other info.  I have Windows 7, full admin rights, and closed all other Office apps.  I Just did a restart
which also installed all current Windows patches.  Got the same error.
Any ideas or where to look for the cause?

I am having the same problem and am dead in the water.
Just in case one of the suggestions might have worked, I went through all of those above with no luck.  At first the issue was that the preview version of the OSE was left behind by the uninstall, but I replaced it with the 2010 version, no dice.
I then uninstalled all office products to get the OSE uninstalled, and setup now gets beyond that hangup, but still fails.  Following is the section of the log with the errors (MS email me for the full log):

  • Microsoft office 2013 encountered an error during setup in Window 8.1

Initially, I got microsoft office 2013 64bit standard version installed in window 8.1. However, it suddenly got errors when opening office, and closed the program automatically. Therefore, I uninstalled it, and tried to re-install office.
However, I got the error "microsoft office 2013 encountered an error during setup" everytime when I try to install it.
I tried 32-bit and 64 bit version, and tried to install in clean boot, deleted registry, and modified the folder name "Microsoft Help", but none of them works.

Make sure you completely uninstall previous versions of Office. There may be remnants left behind, even after you uninstall Office using the normal procedure. I recommend using the “Fix It” utility to uninstall Office 2013 completely. Please refer to this
article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501/en-us you might also follow the manual steps provided on the same page.
If you still having problems, re-registering the Windows Installer and checking permissions on the %TEMP% folder and the C:\Windows\Installer folder to make sure you have full-control. To re-register the Windows Installer run the following commands:
    msiexec /unregister
    msiexec /register

  • Microsoft LYNC Basic 2013 encountered an error suring Setup

    Dear Team,
I have tried most of the suggestions provided on net.
I have followed below steps as of now.
    1) Uninstall earlier version of LYNC.
    2) Deleted registry, & rebooted the system.
    3) Logged in with Administrator.
Still I'm facing issues while installing Lync Basic 2013.
Please note that I'm trying to install LYNC Basic 2013 on Windows 7 SP1 & Windows 8 systems.

verify that you install correct version { for example of your office is 64 bit, Lync basic must be 64 bit} , Lync Basic 2013 is available on the Microsoft Download Center and comes in two versions:
Microsoft Lync Basic 2013 (64 Bit)
Microsoft Lync Basic 2013 (32 Bit)

  • Microsoft Office 2010 encountered an error during setup: With No error codes/

    Hello Everybody.
I am trying to deploy Office 2010 on a windows 7 Machine.. This machine has more then what it needs for hardware to run the software so I know it is not hardware related. At the end of the Install the installers hestiates and begins rolling back and finally
providing "Microsoft Office 2010 encountered an error during setup:" but does not provide any error codes what so ever.
I have tried upgrading, Fresh installs, side by side installs, Safe mode, Clean boot, Local admin accounts and other domain accounts. I have also tried numerous so called "fixes" but still get nothing. Sadly after the 2010 install fails 2007 no longer works
so each attempt is abit time consuming.  Any Ideas out there that might solve issue ?

    Hi,
First try uninstalling all your Addins include connector to test the result.
If not help, try the following steps:
    1) Create a new administrator account.
    2) Log on and launch the installer.
If things don't quite work perfectly now:
    3) If you receive errors accessing your ProgramData folder, use the TakeOwnership registry hack to take control of the entire ProgramData folder, and if needed, create a "Microsoft Office"
folder with "Microsoft Office 2010 Tools" inside it under %programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu.
    4) Your error may return at the end of the installation, but don't worry, it's finished and Office is now installed. Switch user (don't log off!) and go back to your own user. Double-check
that everything works. Now, to turn off your computer, press and hold the power button for five seconds. This will force the computer to shut down instantly, which will close the installer with the error without giving it the opportunity to roll back its changes.

  • SharePoint Designer 2013 does not load working workflows in design view

    Hello,
I would like to share with you a strange thing that happens to me with Sharepoint Designer 2013.
I designed two list workflows with SPD 2013 for a Sharepoint Online platform.
Both workflows works in the engine as designed, but sometimes happens that in SPD they just don't open in the designer view, even if they do not give errors in the execution view
The error message is that Sharepoint Designer has encountered an error and needs to be restarted. (Obviously restarting does not solve).
Sometimes happens also that the workflows opens but blank, with no steps.
Since this is an online platform, I can't consult logs.
I am thinking to open a ticket with Microsoft, but I would like also to ask to the community if someone encountered this and can suggest a way to troubleshoot what happened and why.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the workflow cannot be opened in SharePoint Designer and sometimes it opened with no steps.
Did this issue occur with other workflows and did it occur often with the same workflow?
I recommend to uninstall SharePoint Designer, delete all the files in the three locations below:
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WebsiteCache
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SharePoint Designer\ProxyAssemblyCache
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
After that reboot the client and re-install SharePoint Designer 2013 with the latest updates packaged to see if the issue still occurs.
If the issue still occurs with the same workflow, it may be caused by a known issue or by manual manipulation of the XAML in
    SharePoint Designer 2013 that can
corrupt the workflow, then we need to recreate the workflow.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • Sharepoint online & Sharepoint Designer 2013

Hi, I am receiving an error each time I try to open a SharePoint online site through SharePoint designer 2013.
The error is saying "The Server Could not complete your request". I click on 'Details' and get a repeated "403 Forbidden403 Forbidden403 Forbidden" error message. After I pass this message I get a standard "You do not have permission
to open this web site in SharePoint designer"
Here are a list of things that have so far not worked for me:
Using "https://" rather than "http://" - Same issue.
Removing SharePoint Designer, deleting cache in "users>Roaming>SharePoint designer cache"  - Same issue.
Clearing Generic Credentials in Credential Manager - Same issue.
Checking SharePoint site permissions to ensure that " Same issue.
My Admin role grants no restrictions.
I have Nintex trials installed and have used it to build forms on the site, I also have Nintex workflow however current tutorials detailing how to do what I need to do require SharePoint Designer 2013.
Finally SharePoint Developer 2013 has opened sites before, both SharePoint online sites and on prem, but now our company has gone in for the 'real deal' site I can not open this in SharePoint Designer 2013.
Any support would be very much appreciated, I have been trying to find a solution for a number of days now going into a week.
    Regards,
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,
What permission do you have at site collection level and site level?
For troubleshooting your issue, please go to your site collection -> site settings -> site collection administration -> SharePoint Designer Settings, make sure you enable the SharePoint Designer.
Also make sure the o365 sites are added to the trusted sites and the WebClient services (Search: services.msc) is running. Then in SPD go to Account > Switch Account and type in the credentials of the site you are trying to open (it defaults to your
    Microsoft Login).

    Hi Rangnath,
For running SharePoint Designer 2013, you need to install Microsoft .NET 4.0 Framework or higher.
Please uninstall the Microsoft .NET 4.0 Framework, and install it again. After that, reboot your machine.

  • Sharepoint 2013: Workflow Error , while trying to publish a Sharepoint 2013 Workflow, from the Sharepoint Designer 2013

I don't know what might be wrong but I have tried everything possible I suppose.
Configuration: 1 App Server SharePoint Standard 2013 + SQL Server. On App Server, I have installed Workflow Manager as well.
Installed Sharepoint Designer 2013 on my laptop.
Before I was able to publish the workflows, but now it refuses, thwroing me the following error:
System.InvalidOperationException: Operation failed with error Microsoft.Workflow.Client.WorkflowCommunicationException: The request was aborted: The request was canceled. Client ActivityId : ac85cf9c-053a-e0db-1f47-608050559d31. ---> System.Net.WebException:

What I have tried so far:
    a. Re-installed Workflow, Service Bus, Windows Fabric, Sharepoint Designer... no luck
    b. Run the configuration script... -Force enabled... no luck
    c. Remove WF Manager, SB, etc... Deleted all WF and sb Databases from SQL, and re-installed all icluding updates... no luck
    d. Tried to run services using Farm account, still no luck.
    e. All services on the Server are running as well
    f. The workflow is checked that it is associated with the site collection.
I don't know what else to try... seems like I am experiencing unique issue here... please help!

One last thing I can suggest - In case if you have installed CU Update for WF manager 1.0 and service bus. Some time that creates problem, [Please take backup before make any changes] -
    - Clear everything, WF config , SharePoint WF setting, un register WF from SP , You can delete and recreate WF service Apps
    - IISreset at WF and SP server
    - Uninstall CU update for Workflow manager 1.0 and Service Bus from WF server [Control Panel - Programs - Update], you can delete all update installed
    - ReStart WF server
    - Reconfigure WF manager , Test WF sites , should return XML
    Get-WFFarm | ft HttpPort
    - Reconfigure WF at SP , Make sure should have enough free memory
    Register-SPWorkflowService –SPSite "http://SPsite/" –WorkflowHostUri "http://WFServer:12291" –AllowOAuthHttp
http or https , depend on your configuration
    And retest from SPD again.
    Good luck:)

  • SharePoint designer 2013 crashes most of the time, when opening sites. Error: The server could not complete the request.

    Hi,
I have few sharepoint 2013 site's, which I am trying to open in sharepoint designer 2013.
After adding the site name in open site and clicking ok, the sharepoint designer crashes.  At times the sites open, but 90% of the time, the sharepoint 2013 designer has crashed. I get the message "The server could not complete the request. For
more specific information, click on the Details button".
When clicking on "Details" button, there is a empty box. The error message never gets closed and have to kill the process.
I have tried doing "IISreset" multiple times, which has not helped.
Has anybody faced this issue? How to fix this?
    Thanks

    Hi Venkatzeus,
Firstly, I  need to verify the followings:
1.Whether  this issue occurred on a specify SharePoint 2013 site.
2.Whether  you have extended the problematic site.
Make  sure that your user is a site administrator. If you have extended the problematic site, please add it to AAM.
There are other probable causes for this issue:
1.Anonymous authentication is not configured for the problematic web application in IIS
Fix: Enable Anonymous authentication in IIS
2.Server is running out of memory
Fix: Free up memory on the server
