Microsoft Surface Pro 3 or Surface 2??

Hello,
I am looking at the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and the Surface 2.
I currently work off a Sony Vaio laptop and it is working OK.  I am not intending to replace it (right now); but, would like something that I can work on in another room or take with me.
Would like some feedback on both please.
Thanks!

Microsoft actually has a really neat small test to see which one is best suited to you. Surface Pro 3 was a great addition to the line that added more features to the tablet.
From a personal standpoint I love how they redesigned the rear hinge to do better with keyboards.
To be quite honest though as far as "major features" go the major differences are that the Pro 3's have some i7's while the Pro 2 only had i5's all the way. You can get some cheaper Pro 3's that have only i3's.
The new Pro 3 also has a larger resolution supposedly.
Personally, if you use the keyboard like in your lap or something a lot that would be the only reason as to get the Pro 3 instead of the 2. For most people the Pro 2 was plenty good. I see Pro 3 sort of like Windows 8.1 it was an upgrade to Windows 8 not a real difference.

  • Is there a work-around to enable Digital Photo Pro on the Microsoft Surface Pro ????

Is there a way to use Digital Photo Pro on the Microsoft Surface Pro?
As I understand the problem  DPP is unable detect the screen resolution of the tablet ( the defauilt res of the tablet
    is 1920 x1080) with a minimum of 1024 x768.
It would be usful if one could type in your working screen res into at startup if that's the only problem
___I've looked at other screen drivers from Intell but I realize if I could install thrm I'de lose the touch functionallity
Are there any other ideas out there???
    Thanks  artB

Canon DPP is Canon provided application for desktop/laptop computers and they don't have a version for any tablets as far as I'm aware (not even iOS or Android versions).
But there are other photo editing programs that would work.  I have an iPad.  While Apple has their own photo software (which isn't going to work on a Windows tablet) Adobe has an app called PS Touch.
PS Touch isn't nearly as full featured as Photoshop.  It limits the image resolution (it resizes any images that you import to it so they don't exceed the max resolution) but it does have most of the commonly used adjustments.  So if a person were just trying to get something out, it works in a pinch.
One other catch is that PS Touch can't deal with RAW images... so it's JPEG only.  But I can import JPEGs off the card into the iPad and then edit them -- not as well as I can if they're on a regular computer, but this is what I'ved when I'm away for a weekend with my camera.

  • Installing Creative Design Suite Standard on Microsoft Surface Pro 3

I am trying to install the Creative Design Suite on a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 from a DVD (I recently changed computers and need to transfer my programs to the new machine.  From my research assumed the Surface would work well for my needs and allow me to dabble in Illustrator and Photoshop as I learn the programs).  I am using an external optical drive however the single USB port on the Surface does not seem to get enough power to run the full installation.  I can get the installation started and go so far as to put my in my serial number and then it stops working.  At one point I was even given the notice that it appears my software is counterfeit - which it is not.  I legally purchased it and have used the same disk on another machine.  Is there a way to install the software that would allow me to bypass the usb port/optical drive situation?  One solution I read was to use the disk to transfer the program files to another machine, put them on a jump drive and then run installation on the surface through that - but I don't think I can do that with the serial number situation.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?  Ideas?
-I know the smart thing to do would be to upgrade to the cloud, however at this time I am not proficient enough in the programs that I want to pay $20-30 a month for the programs I am trying to learn.  The disk software I currently own is for CS6 and was purchased just before Adobe started using the cloud feature for their programs.

What issue do you have with downloading the installation files?

  • Photoshop CS6 Brush pressure sensitivity not working on the Microsoft Surface Pro.

I have just purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro in anticipation of running Photoshop on it.  I installed Photoshop and tried to do some sketches.  I created a new file and started sketching.  I Immediately felt like something was wrong.  I checked my brush settings and saw the pressure sensitivity was not available.  Everytine I tried to turn it on it was marked with an exclamation point.
Does anybody know if Adobe is supporting the new pressure sensitive pen from microsoft, or if there is some sort of setting that I am missing?  I have tried sketchbook pro 2011, and that works amazingly well with the pen.  I hope someone can help me along here, because if this tablet can truely run photoshop, it would be a Game Changer.

Just curious.... has any of you tried the shape dynamics in photoshop and turning on pen pressure?
and in illustrator to modify the size to pressure and variation to maximum? (and of course select that brush preset that you just modified and draw with it using SHIFT+B for blob brush or B for regular brush)
I am also interested in purchasing a Surface pro so please report if this helps.
what I recently discovered in other forums is that Sketchbook Pro works flawlessly in desktop mode. Sketchbook Express in the APP mode doesn't support pressure yet.
there is no official confirmation that the surface pro uses a wacom digitizer, however a few artist friends of mine have gone to the microsoft store... brought their own wacom pens (cintiq 15x pen - older models that works with general tabletpcs) and the pro recognized it. which means that it is a wacom digitizer. it wouldn't make sense if a wacom pen works with a different digitizer board like N-trig.
also read in another forum about adobe using wintab and windows 8 wintab drivers are not there yet.
anyway... I'd be glad to know if this works or not
    thanks!

i was wondering if anyone had similar problems or if anyone knows of a solution
so far i have tried switching the audio from itunes properties, and it did not work.
    thanks

  • Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and Access

Currently, we are using a handheld unit to collect process data from our line which is then uploaded into our Quality Access database via ODBC link.  we are upgrading computers and plan to change this handheld to a Microsoft Surface Pro 3.
Question:  What would be easiest method to link or upload process data on the Surface Pro to our existing Access quality database.
    1.  Put a local copy of our database on the tablet then export to the database or use an append query?

    Hi plottster,
Since this question is related to Access database and Cross-platform migration usually need software rebuild for compatibility, our help might be limited.
we suggest you refer to office TechNet forum for more advices because if you have question about Access database on Microsoft platform, you might get more helpful information there

I have Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Pro  how do i get it to work on my microsoft surface 3

    Hello nnicora19a,
I am sorry but Acrobat 6 is not compatible to run on Microsoft Surface 3.
Moreover, Acrobat 6 is a very old version so Adobe also recommends you to install and use latest version (Acrobat XI) which is more compatible with OS on Microsoft Surface 3.

I'm glad your page mentioned the Hyper-V alternative but wish it would elaborate on the potential deficiencies or necessary workarounds.  E.g. regarding mouse pointer or Pen, I have W10TP installed as a Hyper-V guest in my Surface Pro 2 and a silly
thing with it is I need to use Mouse Sonar (e.g. press a Ctrl- key) to find out where the pointer is before clicking.  After that it works fine.  Heh.  Right now I'm not having that problem symptom but I can't get on fully to test this recollection
    because I have forgotten its password.   ; }

  • Download software CD on Microsoft Surface

I was given Adobe Photoshop as a gift in CD form.  I own a Microsoft surface.  If I can install it on another computer, will I then be able to download it directly to my Surface via internet?

    Which version?
    I own a Microsoft surface.
Surface RT? = Can't be done.
    Surface Pro = OK
If I can install it on another computer, will I then be able to download it directly to my Surface via internet?
Just download onto your Surface (must be a Pro) from Download and Installation Help
Install then enter your serial number.

  • CSD on Microsoft Surface

    Hi all,
Is CSD compatible with the Microsoft Surface running Windows RT? How about Windows 8?
If so, what features are available? (Basic host scanning, advanced endpoint assessment, secure vault, etc).
    Thanks!
    Xavier

The Surface Pro - coming out in a few months, not to be confused with the standard Surface tablet now shipping - is essentially just a regular Intel i5 Ivy Bridge notebook PC running windows 8, in a very small tablet/touchscreen form factor. It's supposed to run existing Windows desktop apps just fine, just like any other Windows 8 PC.
But unless Adobe updates Lightroom specifically for Windows 8 - I would expect it to work exactly like it does on my Windows 7 touchscreen laptop today. Your finger on the touchscreen would simply act as a mouse - albeit a very large, low-resolution mouse. On other words - pretty useless in apps like Lightroom with lots of very small, precise controls. You'd either use the Surface Pro trackpad or plug in a mouse if you wanted to do any serious work.
EDIT:  people have said there's also supposed to be some type of active-digitizer pen support for the Surface Pro, but it's not yet clear. For Lightroom, pen input would be much more useful than touch input.

  • Experiencing very small text using adobe connect on my new Microsoft Surface 3. Any solutions?

Experiencing very small text using adobe connect on my new Microsoft Surface 3. Any solutions?

I've heard of this happening before, "it seems that you may be having problems with display scaling of Microsoft Surface. Display scaling effects the way content and controls appear on the screen.
Have you tried messing with scaling at all?
You can try this options: Upgrade Surface Pro from Windows 8 to Windos 8.1, disable display scalling, or reduce display scaling for windows.
Here is some info I found: http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/apps-and-windows-store/app-display-issues

  • Microsoft Surface

I have just purchased a Microsoft Surface, and was wondering how I can install Photoshop?

Assuming you bought a Surface Pro, and not an RT, the easiest way is to download Photoshop from Creative Cloud, then install from the downloaded file. If you're downloading using another machine, you can copy the installation file over your network or put the file on a USB drive and install from there. If you go that route, use a USB 3.0 drive, since the Surface Pro supports it. The speed is much faster than 2.0.
