Microsoft Updates fail on brand new laptop

My wife and I just purchased two new laptops for use during extensive travel.
They say "please wait for microsoft update" every time we boot them up.  About 45 minutes later they say "update failed, uninstalling update"  This takes another 20 minutes or so.
I did some research.
I found that there is a list of about 20 updates Microsoft thinks we need.  I tried installing just one update, and got the same behavior, with shorter times.
When I did this, I got an error message 800F0922
I researched this error message on Microsoft's support forum
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_update/error-0x800f0922-when-ins...
It is a pretty sad forum topic.  It seems that many people have this issue, and Microsoft does not offer any assistance.
Can HP help under HP's warranty support.  Our order number is H130921466
We have turned off windows updates, but this does not seem to be a good long term solution.
I am entering this forum topic under "Notebook Operating Systems" because there is no Laptop Operating System forum topic.  I suggest changing the name of the forum topic to Notebook/Laptop.
This question was solved.

  • Hard drive failing on brand new laptop?

    Hello,
I have an HP 2000-2d11dx that I bought on November 14, 2013.  I've been incredibly happy with it as it has done more and worked better than I expected for what I paid for it.
However, I noticed during the past week or so, the disk had been running at 100% capacity, getting more constant every day.  It also began showing memory errors as it was booting up or shutting down in the style of 0xc00000000, but I didn't think to write down the exact error codes (I regret that now).
Since Friday (the 11th), it's had three BSOD's, so I began to worry and get a little irritated.  Monday night it progressively got worse.  The disk was running at 100% constantly.  I tried to restart it, which sent it into an 'attempting repairs' loop for about an hour and upon rebooting, everytime I clicked on anything, even trying to open the task manager, I got more of the memory errors as above.
At this point, I began tried to use the PC refresh tool.  That failed due to a memory error.  Then I tried PC reset and finally HP recovery manager factory reset.  Both of those failed due to memory errors.  I ran the disk check from the recovery manager.  The recovery partition came back fine but the (C: ) drive had a rather long list of errors and hung at 67%. I turned my back for literally a minute and it was done before I could take note of these errors.  I know that they said something along the lines of "error and index $I30."
At this point I had to leave for school and shut the laptop down. After I returned, I booted it up to find it "attempting repairs" again.  I left it for two and half hours and it finally finished.  From there, I was able to finally do a factory reset, hoping whatever was making the disk before run at 100% would be gone.  While it's not constantly running at 100%, it's spiking quite a bit occasionally.  However, instead of just the (C: ) and the recovery drives, it goes from (C: ) all the way to (I: ), with each drive having a seemingly random amount of space that doesn't seem to quite add up to what it's supposed to be.
And now, according to the HP Support Assitant drive check, the hard drive is failing and should be replaced.  I have this error from the drive check:
    Failure ID:  9SLFLJ-000000-MFGJXF-60VF03
HP Hard Drive Check detected that your drive has a SMART Check issue.  Your hard disk drives have built-in Self Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) that predicts drive issues.  The SMART threshold has been exceeded, and the drive might fail in the future.  The failure may be catastrophic, or it may result in the inability to write to certain sectors or in slow computer performance.
Now since this laptop is two months old, would a replacement be covered in the warranty?  I plan to contact HP with the 'get assistance' button tomorroe as it's near midnight here.  If it is covered in the warranty, how much might it cost to replace the HD?  And this is probably a dumb question as well, but I'm new to HP and the customor support, if I call them/chat with them online/whatever, will that cost anything?  I'm in college so I don't really have that much cash to spend on customer support stuff, but I have online classes this semester so I need my laptop working as well.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

    Sorry for your trouble.
It should be in warranty, please call HP service they will check your warrtany status and replace HDD to you.

  • Brand new laptop: Incredibly slow and laggy.

    Hi,
My mum received a brand new laptop on Saturday (this exact laptop) it hasnt been overly used as yet but the laptop seems very VERY slow. Browsers take a good while to open, sites like Facebook take ages to load - Farmville 2 for example takes an age to load and even when it does its very laggy.
Why is this band new laptop so slow? Nothing has been installed on it other than Firefox and the spec of the laptop seems pretty reasonable. Windows 8 is horrible but thats another issue.
Can anyone help or give any advice?

Do you open farmville from the laptop or from the internet? Have you checked the speed of your LAN or wireless?
Which are you using wireless or LAN NIC?
When you open application on the laptop is it slow?
Trying to determine if it is the connectivity is slow or if it is your laptop.
Also what version of AMD Catalyst are you using?
Here are some things you can do to make sure you are fully updated.
Make sure you have the most current .NET Framework 4.0
Make sure you have the most current DirectX 11.2
Make sure all of the other Microsoft Updates are complete as well. Missing Updates can cause issues.
Uninstall the AMD Catalyst you have now, before installing the Beta version.
I know most are trying to use the AMD Catalyst 13.9, which is used Windows 8 64-bit.
The AMD Catalyst 13.11 Beta9.2 Driver can be downloaded from either of these two links:
    AMD Catalyst™ 13.11 Beta9.2 for Windows®
AMD Mobility Catalyst 13.11 Beta9.2 for Windows

I just got a brand new laptop and I can't seem to put music onto my iPhone - help? I'd really rather not completely empty my iPhone in order to have it agree with this new laptop. How do I get them to talk to one another and let me put my music on my iPhone?

Hi, I bought new Lenovo laptop two weeks ago (Lenovo Y50-70) and everything worked fine up until this morning. When i turned it on baterry icon showed that laptop was not pluged in, so i checked if everything is connected properly. Next thing a pop-up appeared saying ''Adapter is not supported''. I am sending you a screenshot. I searched the problem on internet but were not able to find anything that relates to my problem. Also i tryed calling technical support but they were not able to respond to my problem. I am reminding that this is a brand new laptop with guarantee list and everything. Please help i will be awaiting for your responseThank you

Same here. I just got off a phone for my G50-70 laptop( bought from Newegg.com . It is a new laptop with warranty.
I am getting frustrated as they have sent the replacement charger twice and it did not solve the problem. After that, they got on a session remotely to connect on my laptop. One hour and they still could not fix it.
They said that they will send the laptop to their technicians but they did not say anything about what if they could not solve this problem.
A 600 USd dollar laptop and they cannot even get this fixed. I have ths problem for the last 6 months on this laptop.

  • Re: Screen full of finger prints on brand new laptop

    Hi
I bought a brand new laptop from a well known store when I opened it the screen was full of finger prints so I exchanged it for the same model and that 1 was the same and looked like it had been wiped with a damp cloth and 1 else had this problem is it the stores fault or Toshibas fault.
    Thanks

    Thanks for reply.
I have had 3 of these laptops now as the first one developed a fault but it was sealed and the adaptor and plug were sealed in a plastic bag, the second 1 was sealed but the plug and adaptor wasnt in a bag, and was also in a different box than the first 1.
Now the 3rd one is in the same box as the first it was sealed but the plug and adaptor wasnt, at the moment I have a complaint with the store were I bought it because even though they were sealed.
I feel that the 2nd and 3rd had already had a system restore but have been told they were new so I dont know whos at fault the store or Toshiba.
I dont think I should have to clean a brand new screen it might sound like nothing to some people, but I bought new and expect new

  • Clicking noises on brand new laptop.

Hi, I bought a HP Pavilion 15-e 013sa on Monday from Curry's and when home I noticed it was making quiet clicking noises on the left (or middle). I took it back to the shop and was given a new one to pick up today. Got it home and it's making the same noise.
Is this common of this model? It's really getting to me now and I have a horrible feeling when given a replacement it will do the same.
    Thanks.

I've never heard a laptop make this particular noise which is why I am worried.
And yes, hard to check without hearing the noise, it's just a low tapping/clicking that sounds like it's coming from the left but when you turn the laptop it's the middle.
It doesn't sound like a noise a brand new laptop should be making.
Thanks for the reply, I'm going to take it back in tomorrow and get one of their tech guys to check it.

  • What is the best solution for me to run Microsoft Access on my brand new iMAC?  Assume I'm a casual user.

What is the best solution for me to run Microsoft Access on my brand new iMAC?  Assume I'm a casual user.
I am lead to believe by some real smart guys on the Apple site that If I have the Apple Store partition my iMAC and add the full suite of Office products on that partition, I can run the few Access programs I have and need to run.
Comments encouraged.  Thank you in advance for your consideration and help.

You would have to install Windows, then install Microsoft Office Professional for Windows on it  To install Windows you will have to choose between Boot Camp (faster, free) and a Virtual Machine (simpler, slower, easier to backup)
You should try LibreOffice (free), it can open Access files, it may not have all Access's feature set though, worth a try.

Hi I just lost my brand new laptop in a taxi. Can it be tracked? Thanks.

"...I just lost my brand new laptop in a taxi..."
left not lost. Happens all the time. I found an iPhone once in a taxi and someone once someone left one in Starbucks. Those returns were easy. I would follow steve369's advice, call the taxi company and hope for the best. Good luck. Next time when in a taxi or limo maintain the bag strap across your body.

  • Recently bought new macbook pro , transferred data over and thought microsoft office would work on new laptop. Icons are there , although don't have my key codes!! should i just buy new software package ?

recently bought new macbook pro , transferred data over and thought microsoft office would work on new laptop. Icons are there , although requires key codes and I don't have my key codes anymore as dog chewed the packaging!! should i just buy new software package ?  I am told that this is a microsoft issue not a mac issue !! But all my other data on the old macbook pro transferred over even the icons for office for mac on the bottom app bar. only now I can't open any of my word or excel files without key code! I thought that there may have been something that could be done before having to bite the bullet and fork out for new software package.??

If this is Office for Mac 2011 then it will work on your new computer. Reinstall it. If you don't have the key code call Microsoft's activation line to get a new key code. Explain that you lost the original key code and want to install Office on your new computer.

Have personal Apple ID account which allows me to download apple apps but when I go to update the apps Apple ID pops up thats not mine and cannot log in to update apps.  Brand new IPAD never any other user

Is the AppleID listed in Settings --> Store and Settings --> iCloud the same?
If it is a totally different ID and not a slight variation of yours, I would definitely take it back to the store. You may have bought a returned item that had been setup previously.

  • Laggy touchpad on brand new laptop

Hi everyone. I got a new HP Stream 13inch touch screen laptop just yesterday.  I realized today that the touchpad (I don't have a wireless mouse of any kind) has been a little slow and laggy. It hasn't frozen up or anything, it's just laggy. Sometimes it will shift in another direction the second I stop using it. It's kinda annoying me and also worrying me, since it's a brand new laptop.  Earlier today, I noticed it was doing this, and I restarted my laptop. After that, it was working just fine and I thought it was just one of those glitchy things that happen randomly. But it's happening again right now and Idk what to do. I don't want to have to restart my laptop every single time.  Please help! This is my 3rd laptop already and I don't want something bad to happen to this one, too.
