Microsoft Virtual PC 2004

Hi,
I am a new Mac user and have Word, Excel and PP on my powerbook but do not know if I have "Microsoft Virtual PC 2004." I am going to take online courses at a university and I am told I need this. How can I check to see if I have this? I performed a search in spotlight but nothing came up. Thank you so much for your help

On the contrary, Microsoft Office 2004 Professional does come with a copy of Virtual PC with Windows XP Professional. So if a person goes to the store that sells the Mac version of Office, in the Black Box, you get a copy of VPC 7. Here's a link just for proof...http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/office2004/howtobuy/howtobuy.aspx?pid=howt obuy
It's best to research before answering a question that is not true.

  • Novell Netware 4.11 on Microsoft Virtual Pc 2004

    Hello,
I have Novell Netware 4.11 SP9 running in a Microsoft Virtual PC 2004.
I can not get the network card to detect or work. This looks to be the
closest support group in the list that might have an answer.
The Virtual PC creates virtual hardware for the Intel / Dec 21140 network
    card.
I know poeple have got 4.11 SP8a to work in VPC 2004 but I can't seem to
get it to work. Intel suggest I need:
    NBI.NLM v2.25 9/17/98
    MSM.NLM v3.95 5/12/99
    ETHERTSM.NLM v3.8 3/1/99
Which I now have. I have tried numerous Intel and even some old Dec lan
drivers. Here is an example of the error.
    LOAD SYS:SYSTEM\DC21X4.LAN SLOT=3 TX_THRESHOLD=4 RX_BUFFERS=5
    FRAME=ethernet_802.3 NAME=DC21X4_1_E83
    Loading module DC21X4.LAN

DC21X4-NW-050: No PCI board found in machine!
    SERVER-4.11-1553: Module initialization failed.
    Module DC21X4.LAN NOT loaded
    Any Ideas ?
(I have loaded the nbi, msm and ethertsm files manually but still do not
    get card detection)
    Thanks

I know nothing about VirtualPC and you will find many people here who know
more about VMWare which I could recommend.
Based upon my VMWare experience, make sure the NIC is configured Private/Host
    Only or NAT.
It must be configured to appear directly connected to your LAN.

  • Archlinux on Microsoft Virtual Server - installs but doesn't boot

    Hi all,
I'm trying to sneak Arch into our organization, but as we're very Windows-focussed it may take some time. I thought I would be able to install it as a virtual machine on our Virtual Server, but I haven't had any luck.
The system seemed to install fine, but when I restart the machine and take out the virtual CD it just sits there with a blank screen, but using 97% CPU.
Here's how I installed the system:
Physical machine: Core II Duo 2GHz running Windows Vista 32-bit, with 2GB memory and a 120GB IDE drive.
    1) Setup a virtual machine - it has 256MB memory, and a 100GB dynamically-expanding IDE virtual hard disk.
    2) Attached the Don't Panic 2007.08 BASE ISO to the Virtual Machine, and started her up.
    3) Started the installer with arch ide-legacy. This is because I've run through this install a few times now and without this option it complains that it can't read from /dev/null a lot and that it has trouble writing to VHD.
    4) Did an auto-prepare and selected all of the defaults to partition the virtual hard disk.
    5) Selected all of the base packages and installed them.
    6) Did the "configure system", and left everything as the defaults except setting the root password.
    7) Installed the kernel, again leaving the defaults in the config file.
    8) Installed the bootloader. Last time I used GRUB, but it sat there saying it was installing for over 2 hours. This time I tried LILO and it installed in less than a few seconds.
After all that was done I exited the installer and did a reboot. Now it sits at 97% CPU usage constantly and shows nothing but a blank screen. Using ALT+F1-F5 shows nothing.
Microsoft Virtual Server has support for the Red Hat and other distributions so I would have expected ArchLinux to work. Has anyone else had success in getting Arch to run on Virtual Server? And is there anything I did wrong in my installation?
    Cheers,
    Paul

Well, according to this virtual pc 2004 supports archlinux 0.7.1 and 0.7.2 .
They claim virtual server 2005 uses the same core as virtual pc 2004 , so it should work.
Try installing with one of the previous isos, see ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/iso .

  • Running SAP on Microsoft Virtual Servers

Is anyone running SAP on Microsoft Virtual Servers?  If so, what has been your experience with this?  We are installing NetWeaver 2004s on three virtual servers (running on the same Physical Windows server). We are using the Microsoft Virtual Server software (not VM Ware).
Thanks in advance for any information.

Check Note 674851 - Virtualization on Windows:
VMware, GSX Server, VMware workstation, Microsoft Virtual Server
Due to their restriction to 32-bit, single CPU and host/guest operation, these virtualization products are not suitable for productive SAP applications.
It may be advisable to use one of these products to operate non-production systems (demo systems, test systems, development systems and so on).
I would not use Microsoft Virtual Server for productive installations, additionally, depending on the database used, it may or may not supported by the database vendor and thus also may or may not supported by SAP.
In worst case you will need to reinstall the application on a non-virtualized environment and reproduce a problem there before SAP support will accept the problem.

  • Apple mac and Virtual PC 2004

Hello, i dont know if this is the right place for this post, but im trying to install virtual pc on my new macbook pro and it all installs fine intill i go to install it then comes up with a error has accured and to restart it, try and few times and its still does it? does any one know what im doing wrong?
    Wes

    Rich,
Wes is probably trying to install a virtual pc in his Windows that run through BootCamp in his MacBook. For example in order to install Linux or Vista Beta.I'm afraid Wes-since Virtual PC 2004 has nothing whatsoever to do with Macs-you'll have few chances to receive help here.I wonder if anyone knows about it...

  • Device Manager in Win: Does Microsoft Virtual WiFi MiniPort Adapter Matter?

I'm a  novice user just wondering about configuring devices in Windows 7 bootcamp partition.
My Apple iMac computer shows as a device in the Windows device manager with a yellow exclamation mark.
The driver is Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter.
The error is "device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)'.
Attempting to troubleshoot, by updating the driver doesn't solve the problem, as Windows can't automatically locate the driver.
However nothing seems to be actually functioning wrong - internet connectivity and wifi connections are stable and the partition is accessible.
I'm also using MacDrive 8 to access my Mac drives from Windows, again this seems to be working smoothly.
Can I just ignore this as one of the quirks of Bootcamp 3.2?
I have my PhD work on the Windows side so just wanting to be sure I can safely ignore the problem.
I've asked this question in the Intel iMac forum, wihtout any luck, just thought other Bootcamp users might be able to shine some light on the issue?
    In detail:
    Bootcamp; 3.2
Win OS: Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit
    Mac OS: 10.6.7
Computer: Intel Core Duo 3.06GHz 8 GB RAM
Installed Driver Date and Version: 21/06/2006 and 6.1.7600.16385

    Hi,
If they remained after uninstall from device manager, run these commands with administrator privilege:
    netsh wlan stop hostednetwork
    netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow

  • Installing Microsoft Office:mac 2004 Student and Teacher Edition

I am trying to install Microsoft Office:mac 2004 student and teacher edition.
I don't know how to achieve this.
I have tried the Office Setup Assistant but it says "You can't open the application "Office Setup Assistant" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
So, I assume I have to do the "Drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder to your hard disk to install all Office components" option.
Being very new to iMac, my question is, "Where exactly do I drag it to?  Which icon along the bottom or should it go somewhere else?
    Any help would be great
    Thanks

It will not work with Mountain Lion. You need Office 2011 for OS X.
Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Solaris 10 5/08 x Microsoft Virtual PC

I have tried to install Solaris 10 5/08 on Microsoft Virtual PC, but after selecting Solaris on first screen I have received this message:
WARNING: Time of Day clock error: reason [Stalled]. -- Stopped tracking Time Of Day clock.
Does anyone know how to solve?
    Thanks,

ive seen clock issues on linux under vmware and found this off this link [http://www.vmware.com/products/beta/esx-vc/knownissues.html]
Solaris warning "Stopped tracking Time of Day clock"
Description: Solaris might report one of the following messages:
WARNING: Time of Day clock error: reason [Stalled].
-- Stopped tracking Time Of Day clock.
WARNING: Time of Day clock error: reason [Jumped].
-- Stopped tracking Time Of Day clock.
Workaround: The warnings are harmless, and you can simply ignore them. Alternatively, you can, do the following:
    1. suppress them by adding the following line to /etc/system in your VM:
    set tod_validate_enable = 0
    2. Install VMware Tools in your virtual machineand turn on time synchronization to ensure that time is accurate.
for sure since this is msft stuff, you cant do step 2

  • Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter VMware To Hyper-V Cluster

I'm not sure if this should technically be in the clustering section but I have just moved from SCVMM 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2 and I kinda miss the built-in converter tool. What I used to do when converting VMware to Hyper-V was uninstall VMware Tools and then
I would do a physical to virtual conversion on the VMware virtual machine and SCVMM would handle copying the virtual machine while it was online and register it in our Hyper-V cluster. Now, the only thing I could come up with is the Microsoft Virtual Machine
Converter but it seems rather limited and doesn't seem to have an option to import to a cluster. So is the only option to convert it over to Hyper-V as if it were a local machine and then run another export/import process to get it in the cluster? I tried
to point it to a CSV and while it copied the disk over, it registered the virtual machine in ProgramData (the default location). This obviously causes issues when trying to make the VM highly available. Any one have a suggested process of the best way to go
about this? Thank you in advance for your time!

So no matter what option I choose, V2V always shuts down the source VM during the conversion process. On the other hand, if I use the old method of uninstalling VMware tools manually and then doing a P2V instead, the source VM has to stay online for
that type of process. Then I just have to migrate it to become highly available and that seems to accomplish what I want. The only annoying part is that I couldn't run it on my Win 8.1 Pro workstation as it requires the BITS feature to be installed
and that only appears to be available on server editions (correct me if there is a way to get it on 8.1). I guess the documentation (I think) says that it should run on server editions only but V2V runs fine from 8.1 since it doesn't need BITS since it's
    an offline process.

  • Issues between Microsoft Office:mac 2004 (Student) and Korean Language

I use Microsoft Office:mac 2004 student edition on my iMac. For a Korean class I'm taking I type in Korean on Microsoft Word for Mac 2004 (student edition) and as to be expected Word indecates the spelling is wrong. I have tried to change the proofing setting so Word will Proof in Korean but I have been unsucessful. What can I do (or get or download) to get Word for Mac to proof Korean? If you think you may be able to help me but you find his message to be somewhat hard to understand please email me at [email protected] and I will to explain my issue more clearly.

Best ask in the newsgroups which MS runs for its products:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
Are you sure the stuff you want exists? My info is that Office 2004 comes with proofing tools for English, French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, German, Danish, Swedish, Portuguese, Finnish, and Dutch. No Korean or Chinese.

  • OEL On Microsoft Virtual PC

I am trying to install OEL 5.3 on Microsoft Virtual PC (Vista, 64 bit). However, there is something wrong with the display settings. The display is illegible, and I cannot figure out how to force a specific display setting. I think the problem is that that OEL is defaulting to a color depth of 24 bit, and Virtual PC is expecting 16 bit. I can get an installation to complete using the non-gui installation, but when I do that, I cannot get the mouse to work after completing the installation. How do I set the OEL color depth and video card when I run the initial installtion? I have tried using the noprobe option, but no luck

  • Microsoft Virtual PC 2007

Hello, I was wondering if I install a clean version of Windows XP using bootcamp, will I be able to install Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 on it? I've been reading that this cannot work on the Intel chip. Please let me know as I am interested in purchasing the MacBook, but I also need to do DEV on the machine, thus I need to us MC VPC 2007.
    Thanks.

    welcome to macbook forum.
it should work just fine since boot camp with XP or vista, will act as a PC laptop.
But the problem might be when you have to select the partition for installing your other guest OS, unless you point that guess OS (win 2000, another XP or else) to external HD if virtual PC support guess os from external connection.
    Good Luck.

  • Installing Arch in Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1

Firstly, I'm very new to linux and am looking to try out as many distros as possible before deciding on which one to learn from.  I want a simple but powerful distro which has minimal packages which will allow me to develop a system myself, learning how the OS works along the way.  Arch linux looks like the one.
I've tried to install from the ftp iso "archlinux-2009.02-ftp-i686" onto Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1 on my Pentium 4 3.4GHz PC.  I get a "Kernal panic - not syncing: Attempting to kill the idle task! message" after a message "unknown_bootoption+0x0/0x1db", a hex dump and "EIP: [<c010982c>] text_poke_early+0x4c/0x70 SS:ESP 0068:c042fe90" message.
Don't know whether this means anything or I've missed something obvious.  Does anyone have an experience of this type of install?  Have I downloaded the wrong ISO?
Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Arch does seem to have a few issues when running in a VM. More so than when using actual metal.
That should be the correct CD.
I never had much luck with MS Virtual PC. Maybe try VirtualBOX from Sun?
I don't know if your pentium 4 has support for hardware virtualisation. Without hardware support the performance will be less than impressive and I found I had more issues without hardware virtualisation when running vms.

I import NEF files as I've done for years...no problem on import.
Now I've noticed that once I start making adjustments in LR5, the accompanying XMP files show in the Finder as "Microsoft Excel 97-2004 workbook" files. Instead of as "Adobe XMP" files. Huh???
I'm able to work fine within LR, but since I noticed this I've been a) converting imported files to DNGs within LR, and b) importing new files as DNGs.
But sometimes I want to import files as NEFs...any idea why this is happening? Is it a LR bug? Is DNG conversion the best (only?) solution?
Thanks in advance to anyone who has a clue!

Hmmm, my concern isn't with opening the XMP, it's that the file type seems to have changed and I don't know how that's happening.
Here's a screenshot comparison from Finder windows:
