Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, delete document

I've tried to follow the directions for deleting documents in Word, but it doesn't work. If I have the document open, and I click file/versions, there is nothing under existing to delete (which is how you do it according to their directions). I've tried file/open and dragging the selected document to the trash as well as selecting and hitting delete, but that doesn't work either.

This isn't the best forum for questions about Word, however, I'll have a go at it.
Hope I'm not stating the obvious here. "Versions" in Word gives a user the ability to save various renditions of the same document. This way, you can return to an earlier version if necessary. However, before you can delete any version, you need to save it within the Version panel box. Once listed there, you simply need to highlight it via a mouse click, then select "delete".
If you are looking to delete a word document other than a "versions copy", then the best place would be via the Finder, wherever you save your Word Documents. There, you can single-click a document, then Apple Key/Delete to send it to the trash.

  • Word 2004 for Mac "Notebook"

    Hi,
I'm a new Mac user. I've been using Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac's "Notebook" feature to take notes and record the audio for my class lectures. In the last week, my MacBook has locked-up three times when trying to stop the audio recording at the end of the lecture. Twice, I was able to recover the text, but not the audio. This morning, I was only able to recover part of the text. This morning, for the first time, it also locked up while recording and I lost both text and audio. It has typically locked-up as soon as I press "stop."
Could I be doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Jake

Since Word is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum.

  • Error msg. after installing word 2004 for mac

I have installed my Word 2004 for Mac on my brand-new iMac. It works fine, but every time I open it, I get the following message: "An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework Library." Anyone know what this means and how I can get rid of it? Many thanks.....Macquest

Apply all updates for Office. There should be an item named "Microsoft AutoUpdate" in your Applications folder. Run the app and let it download and install the updates it finds. If you're multiple updates back, you'll need to repeat the process after each update until it tells you that the software is up to date.

  • Word 2004 for mac purchase

i just purchased word 2004 for mac from apple store online. am i to assume that i will be able to open word docs through my ISP that are attached to my emails ? and can i download only the specific apps (i.e., word, exel, etc.) that i want to use? as you can tell, i am not familiar with this. thank you!!

If you purchased the entire Office 2004 package, you can opt not to install applications you don't want. Word 2004 will open Word documents attached to emails.

  • Locking Styles using Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac

    Greetings-
I'm not sure if this is a good place to post a software question, but I having difficulty locking styles on Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac. When I try locking a document's styles on a PC it allows you to lock only the styles but allow users to edit anything else in the document. When I try to open the same document on a Mac the entire document is write protected.
I tried setting up the document protection using my Mac and it only gave me these three options: Protect for: Track Changes, Comments, Forms. I only want to protect the styles.
I hope this makes sense. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks.

One suggestion is to ask in the Word forums at Mactopia, MS's site:
    http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums/Word/
Someone here may have an answer, but this is a forum for Apple products. As such, you may have a better chance of getting an answer there.
    Good luck!

  • Cannot Interact with Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac after Opening

After I open Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac, either by opening a .docx file or opening Word from the Applications folder, I am not able to interact with the application whatsoever.  Selecting its icon in the dock does not bring any of its windows to the front, nor does it show the Word menu at the top; instead, it still shows the menu of whatever application was previously selected.  But the windows do exist if I move other windows out of the way.  If I do get to a Word window, I cannot click on anything, select anything, resize it, close it, or scroll.
Other info: If I click and hold the Word icon in the doc, the menu displays as if the application were functioning normally; it does not show a Force Quit option, as it would if Word were frozen.  I do not see any dialogue boxes or anything that would take the focus away from the other windows.
Background: I was able to successfully use Word without any problems before today, using the same installation of the application, same computer, and same operating system. I also never had this problem before Mavericks, though, as I said before, I didn't always have this problem in Mavericks.
How do I get Word to function normally again?  Thanks for any help you can provide!

After letting Word run for quite a while, a popup window told me there was an issue with the database.  I opened the Microsoft Database Utility and rebuilt the database.  It seems to be working fine now.

  • Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac - missing options

    Hello!
I've got some trouble with Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac:
I realized that there are some options missing in the menu bars, such as "Insert > Cross-reference", etc.
Today I reinstalled the whole thing including all updates (11.3.7). No success.
However I noticed that on my admin account the options are existent but still not on my "everyday account".
    Therefore my question:
How can I remove user specific preferences for Office? I guess this might solve my problem.
Thanks to anyone who has some hints for me!

Since Office is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum that focuses on compatibility issues between Macs and Windows.

  • Can you print in notebook view in MS Office Word 2004 (for mac)?

I'd like to use the notebook view in Word 2004 (Mac version) to take notes in class, and I would also like to print them in that view (notebook pages style). It doesn't do it automatically, I was hoping there was a way of having it print the notebook lines; and I can't seem to find any print options to do so.

    Desidarius:
I am confirming the following for you. I have Word 2008.
Word 2008 offers the Notebook Layout view (We know this).
Notebook Layout View prints through Word's normal printing routines, which means that *it doesn't include such UI elements as notebook rings, rulers, and hole-punches.*
However, bullets, checkboxes, and note flags are considered in-document content so these do print.

  • Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac - remove all hyperlinks in a table?

    Hello!
I'm using word 2008 with a table which I have populated with some wikipedia text.
Consequently some of the words are hyperlinked.
Now since it is a massive table, I'd rather not delete all these hyperlinks by hand.
Is there a method to select them and delete all the hyperlinked words [but retain the words themselves]
for example if the word says 'horse' in blue underlined hyperlink text, i would like to have it that the word 'horse' remains, but is no longer links to wikipedia's entry on horse
    thank you kindly

    Shenzi,
I think you may have better success posting to a MS Office for Mac forum. For example:

  • Replaced an older IMac that had OS snow leopard and could run microsoft Office 2004 for Mac. I'm told that this version of Office for Mac will not run on OS mountain lion. Is this true? or is there a workaround?

Just received a new Imac running OS10.8 Mountain Lion. I have MS Office 2004 that ran ok on OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. I'm told that this software will not work on the new OS. Are there any work arounds?

... and have only used Word and hate to try to learn something new if not necessary.
The dirty little secret that they are keeping from you, is YES, there is a way to continue to use Microsoft Office's Word 2004 in Mountain Lion!
It is to install Snow Leopard Server into Parallels 8 on your new Mac and then install and run Word 2004 there:
Apple is now selling Snow Leopard Server for $19.99 + sales tax & shipping costs at 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only). Parallels 8 retails for $79 but can be found for less searching for discounts on the internet.
Personally I hate the way Microsoft has changed Word 2008 and Word 2011, because I was 100% comfortable with how Word 2004 was setup and utilized.  There is a learning curve to both of these upgrades and a more steeper one to the "free" alternatives that were suggested to you.
In a perfect world, you should upgrade to Office 2011; I did (actually it was a gift, but the price was not an object for me anyway). But the world is not perfect...
So, if, like me, there are times that you are most comfortable operating in the Word 2004 environment, my suggestion offers you a easy, stable, relatively inexpensive means to continue to do so in Mountain Lion.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • Microsoft office 2004 for mac installation problem

    Hi there,
I initially download the microsoft office 2004 trial. I bought the student & teacher edition and install it in my macbook. There was a uninstall button on the trial software that I press and I don't know if that removed the trial version. The problem is "this product is license to office 2004 test drive user, my name and product ID number" are all showing initially when you press any of the office 2004 icon. Having the test drive user showing up makes me wonder if the trial version was totally deleted. If the trial version was not deleted, will it slow down the program and how can I remove it without re-installing the full version that I bought.
    Any help is appreciated
    thanks so much
