One thing to check: when shutting down or restarting, there is a checkbox in the shutdown/restart dialog which asks whether you want currently open applications to open at startup.

2011 Microsoft powerpoint automatically quits!

Hi I am using 2011 Microsoft Powerpoint on my MacBook Pro and every time I click view slideshow the application automatically quits and an error report appears. I have not been able to view my powerpoint at all as it would look when presented.

Microsoft Word automatically opens when I start my computer.

A new document opens up everytime I start my computer. The option for Word to start at login is not checked on the dock and is not in my start up items in system preferences.
Also, I downloaded Google Chrome and now the screen that allows you to install and run downloads keeps showing up with the Google Chrome icon, in addition to Word when I start my computer.

Sorry.. this is my first Mac. It's a box that has the icon of the download on the top and the folder on the bottom. In other words, it prompts you to move the icon into the folder for the install to occur.
I exited out of Word before I shut down the computer. Again, not sure why it opens automatically.

Issues with Microsoft Word for mac closing when I try to open old or newly downloaded documents

When I download a document from my professor, or try to open an older document, my word automatically quits. If it's already closed and I try to open a document, it will show the dot at the bottom of the icon that it's loading to open but it quickly disappears and quits itself. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or know what I can do to fix it? Thanks.

I need to send the microsoft word as an attachment to external email. When I send an email using transaction SBWP to external email, the recipient will receive the attachment in Microsoft word format. But when I send the attachment to external email using my program, the Microsoft word automatic change to pdf. Kindly help. Attach is my sample program.

I can't type in my Microsoft Word 2008 anymore on MacbookPro, how do I fix this?

I have a MacbookPro from 2009 and my Microsoft Word 2008 won't let me type or use any keyboard functions on the page. I still have full use of my mouse/cursor. I also just recently updated to Yosemite. Help!

This just started happening to me, too, about an hour ago. I updated My Macbook Air 2013 to Yosemite a day after it came out, and I use Microsoft Word 2008 quite frequently (several hours a day), yet this just started happening.
TEMPORARY SOLUTION: I find that if I completely quit Microsoft Word and reopen it, I am once again able to type.
It's happened to me twice so far tonight. This second time I noticed that it was right after I copy and pasted something, then changed it to double space. Have you noticed anything similar?

Microsoft Word & Photoshop Elements auto loading

Can anyone explain why when I syn my phone to iTunes that Microsoft Word automatically comes up? It does it on my laptop but not my other laptop. Also, if I have pix that I've taken or not with my iPhone, why if Scanner and Camera Wizard is suppose to get the pix is Photoshop Elements also trying to get the pix? How to I keep Photoshop Elements from trying to get the pix?

If it works in windows you are fortunate, because it certainly does not work on mac version.
Note that I have done this thousands of times in PE8. I'm guessing it is a common use. I use the functionality for combining many images on the same printable page, such as images of my wife's students. YES, I can resize it when I paste the image into MSWord, but it is an extra hassle unnecessary in PE8, and broken in PE11.
Note also that using the rectangular marquee to select a portion of the image (say 1" x 1") and copy rsults in pasted image of about 5" x 5".
In the "resize image" user is able to specify dimensions of the picture in either inches or pixels. I choose inches. In PE11 the image shows new size, and if saved, reopening shows correct size. The problem appears to be when PE11 "copies" the image.

Microsoft Word 2004 crashes repeatedly

Hello. I am running Word 2004 on an older Mac G4. It is running OS X 10.4.11.
Word has been continuously crashing for months. I tried repairing permissions, trashing Office and reinstalling a new version of it (which makes me think it's not Word with the problem), and trashing the preferences. None of this has helped and it still sporadically crashes (and doesn't save what I've been working on) which is extremely hindering my work.
Any suggestions on what else I can do to try and fix the problem or even figure out what the problem is? It just crashes and that screen that says "Microsoft Word unexpectedly quit" comes up.

I was wondering if you were able to resolve the issue. I recently had my computer in for repairs. They've changed the hard drive and erased my whole data which I asked to be saved. Anyway, since then word 2004 is acting weird and keeps crashing every 10-15 seconds. My main use of the computer is for word processing and it is dead to me now. Apple "genious' says it is a problem with Microsoft and not them. But it was working just fine before they replaced the hard drive and update the system
now, I am even more hesitating to update leopard which I heard similar problems occurring with Office.
To be honest, without the Office, MAC has no charm for me. I exchange files with PC users and I need my computer to do that easily.
So, anyway, have you had any luck to fix it? Please let me know. I desperately need help!

One thing to try/check - in System Preferences, General. Check the box "Close windows..."

Microsoft Word launches automatically at startup

This is an unusual situation. Most people can't get MS Word to launch or it crashes.
I have the opposite. When I log into my MacBook Pro, Microsoft Word for Office 2004 launches automatically. This has just started about a month ago and I've had Office 2004 since 2005.
1. There is no file in "Startup" that would start MS Word
2. I've deleted the MS Word preferences file several times to combat and that hasn't worked
3. I've removed all temp files from the Microsoft folder on my username/home --> Documents --> Microsoft folder
And, I get the following in Console when I log in (an example from July 18th):

Microsoft word, Skype, Safari quits

Hello,
I am a new Mac user, for some reason a week ago I started having problems with the Microsoft word, I can't open it. I can't open Powerpoint, Excell...etc. I can't even open any word docs.
Now, Skpye started quitting, I can't open that either.
Safari quits very often.
I tried installing a new copy of Microsoft word, still doesn't work, someone told me there might be a conflict with another program that I might have downloaded, which I don't think I did.
Does someone know if I am missing something, is it normal?
What should I do?

The MacBook should come with a trial version of MicroSoft Office. This version will work for 30 days. Then you would have to replace it with a "bought" version, if you want to keep using MS Office.
As an alternative, you can use the free NeoOffice program, which can read and write Microsoft files. You can download it here (be sure to get the Intel version):

(Since you are new to the Forums, may I suggest that you don't type with CAPITAL LETTERS. Some people find this hard to read and it is often interpreted as SHOUTING!)

Since there are no virus for OS X, I seriously doubt that is what is causing your problem here.
My suggestion open System Preferences then Accounts followed by Login Items. Once there deselect Microsnot Word.
