Microsoft Word/default opening

Hey everyone,
Not sure where to post this, but every time i attempt to open a document using the new documents button on the bottom bar, it attempts to open it using the microsoft word test drive. i have a liscense for Office, and use it all the time but i just cant seem to figure out how to get it to open to my actual liscensed software instead of the "test drive." Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I believe that the instructions for installing Office tell you that you cannot have any other versions of Office installed, including the test drive. Wouldn't uninstalling the test drive should solve your problem?

Close all applications.
Option click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
From the drop down select Library.
Locate the folder named " Saved Application State".
Locate the folder named "com.microsoft.word.SavedState".
Move it to Trash.
Relaunch Word.

Microsoft word not opening

my microsoft word 2008 was working fine a few months ago and when i tried to open it it crashed, no error message, no nothing. I can't reinstall because this mac I bought off someone.
please help.

Photoshop VERY slow when Microsoft Word is open

Photoshop is slowing down to a crawl as soon as I open up microsoft word. Even if it's a blank document. Any ideas?
My computer is decently powerful. 3GB RAM, 70GB scratch disk for photoshop and 2GB allocated to photoshop...??!?!? It's really fast when microsoft word isn't open.

seems that microsoft word is the culprit, and not photoshop. my whole computer slows down when i open up a document.... i had just installed endnote to add citations. after removing it word works fine with photoshop and everything else. weird. thanks though

I am not able to open microsoft word. Everytime I try to open it, it says "Microsoft word starter 2010 cannot be opened. Try again or repair the product in the control panel."
Please help I need it fixed fast.

Try reinstalling Office 2010 Starter by using the file I zipped up and attached below (under Attachments).
Download, unzip and doubleclick the file to run it.
You have to be connected to the internet in order for the setup file to contact the Microsoft Office 2010 Starter download site.

Microsoft Word cannot open on specific user account.

Hello,
Everytime I open Microsoft Word (Office 2011) on my original user account, I get this message:
I went to Microsoft's support site first. After finding various methods here, I found that the second method actually worked for me. That method was to make a "test" user account, and try to open Word there. Word had an update available and I updated both accounts with it. The "test" account actually opens up Word with no problems, whereas my original user account does not. Apple Support didn't help, in fact they directed me back to Microsoft because it's a third party software developer, despite it being an Apple/Macbook user account problem. I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this, or if I'm stuck transferring all my files over to my test account one by one?

Just a shot here,if you have done all the steps you have provided in the link, in your affected acct, try going to Applications, Microsoft Office, Word and highlight it. Then press COMMAND I or right (control) click on it, this will bring uo the info pane, at the bottom under "sharing and permisssions make sure that system, and the rest of the accts have read write access, if not try unlocking the padlock (at the bottom with your admin pswd) and changing the status, see if this helps.

Microsoft Word not opening! I am desperate!

I recently moved the icon for Microsoft Word on my Macbook from my documents folder to the applications folder. Now it is not opening. I tried moving it to different locations, including back to the documents folder but it is still not opening. My operating system is mac os x 10.6.8. Can anybody help, I am desperate! Microsoft word default view?

sorry couldn't find the exact category...I've got some funky view that is set as the default for word, I can change it manually each time,but does anyone know how to reset the default page view?

hi david - sounds like the preferences file might be hosed...
1. quit Word
2. drag HOME > Library > Preferences > Microsoft > com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist to your Desktop
3. start Word again.
now of course all other Word preferences you had set are gone now too, but at least when you set them again this time they should stick...
if this works, you can delete the prefs file that you had moved to your Desktop...
post back if this didn't help... cheers

Microsoft Word 2004 opened and worked this morning. Not working now.

I'm using a 2008 MacBook pro, OS 10.6.8
Microsoft word 2004 was working this morning, and it crashes on launch now. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. tried trashing the 'normal' template. nothing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help!!!

The obvious questions must be asked. What has changed? Software or hardware added/updated/deleted? Has it been working without issue for days/weeks/months/years before this?

IMac won't print microsoft word doc "open with" apple pages

When its set to open with pages it just freezes the pages program and wont print. If I set it to open with textedit or some other program then it will print. Note, if I open it first with pages then it will print from within pages. It just wont print using file > print from the apple menu. Whats the fix for this? Currently I have it set to open all word docs in LibreOffice in order to print docs with ease. But I would rather use apple pages app.

I've a customer who just came up with this problem. He is using Office 2003 on Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bits. He is using also a Color LaserJet 2600n. We just reinstalled his software on a new computer and we started experiencing "Current Printer Is Unavailable" in Excel. When trying to access Page Setup, it was also giving us that same message, and
then we had a dialog listing every computer available.
We produced a PDF, tried to print from Acrobat Reader, it crashed too the same way you mentionned.
Here's what happenned:
We first installed the driver available from HP web site
We did some updates from Microsoft Web Site. There was an optional hardware update for the LaserJet 2600n, so we installed it. This update is completely {Language Filter Evasion}
Uninstall your printer driver (well, just remove it from your printer list)
Then reinstall it. In our case, it was accessed thru IP.
When it was installing, it asked us to keep the same driver or REPLACE the driver... pick-up REPLACE the driver!
And you are good to go...

Depending on what attachments are sent to you, you will need the appropriate application to open it. If by using the example of receiving a Word document, you would either a.)Need to purchase Microsoft Office 2004, or b.)Use a free application such as NeoOffice http://www.planamesa.com/neojava/en/index.php
NeoOffice will open most Microsoft Office documents.

I am having trouble saving my Word documents as they are opening in read-only mode. I cannot find a setting to change the way my Word documents are opening.

Amy, are you reffering to the 'reading mode' in Word, which it uses when you open a Word document that was attached to a message?
There are instructions on [http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2013/06/10/disable-reading-mode-and-protected-view-in-word-2013/ how to disable that] although it's not in the scope of Thunderbird.

Microsoft Word automatically opens when I start my computer.

A new document opens up everytime I start my computer. The option for Word to start at login is not checked on the dock and is not in my start up items in system preferences.
Also, I downloaded Google Chrome and now the screen that allows you to install and run downloads keeps showing up with the Google Chrome icon, in addition to Word when I start my computer.
Help!

Sorry.. this is my first Mac. It's a box that has the icon of the download on the top and the folder on the bottom. In other words, it prompts you to move the icon into the folder for the install to occur.
I exited out of Word before I shut down the computer. Again, not sure why it opens automatically.

How do I change the "Open with Windows Wordpad Application (default)" for a DOCX file to I guess, Microsoft Word?

I think the "Wordpad Application (default) got entered some time ago while trying to open a DOCX file. I now have a compatibility pack downloaded for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Formats for my Office 2003 and I think I could open a DOCX file now but can't get this Wordpad application removed and changed to another application to open it, which I think would probably be Word or if someone has another suggestion.

I can't get "Use Microsoft Word (default)" to appear as an Action option. Only Windows WordPad application, Media Center, Internet Explorer, iTunes, Media Player Classic, Nero, Windows Photo, Picasa, Windows Calendar and wWindow Media Player appear as choices. I don't know how to add Microsoft Word as a choice. Maybe the second part of the instructions in your reply "Adding download actions" would solve this but I don't understand the instruction starting with #1. I don't know how to go about doing what it says to do.
I don't think it makes any difference, but I do have Office XP instead of 03 as I stated in my first question.
