Microsoft Word dissapeared from applications

I accidently dragged my Word Icon from my dock and poof it dissapeared. Did not think anything about it, until later on.  I think I may have already emptied out my trash.  And I have tried looking for it in applications.  And it is not there.  I'm new to MacBook Pro.  Been using Windows forever. Never use the time machine either.  Is there anyway to recover Microsoft Word?  Any pros out there? Help?

This is workstation forum.
Your Dock is only an alias.
Backups on any platform are a must, though TimeM is not the only method.
/Applications should still show "Office" - applications hide their complete folder contents inside application "packages" so click on application and select "show package contents" (I think that is still how it works).

Caused by: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested
i think its down to special characters used.. like apostrophe is different in word then normal.. anyone got solution for this error not to occur?

    74 questions, 72 unresolved.
And this one: sadly we are not looking over your shoulder, so we don't know what 'copying' means, which version of Word, which 4-digit version of the database, and which SQL statement fails.

  • Message saying that I can't open the application Microsoft Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported?

I had just upgraded my macbook to Mountain Lion and was wondering why PowerPC applications were no longer supported. I kind of really need to use Word for school, but when I tried to open it, I got the message "You can't open the application "Microsoft Word" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

Here is a recent post I assembled for a similar question:
Unfortunately you got caught up in the minor miracle of Rosetta.  Originally licensed by Apple when it migrated from the PowerPC CPU platform that it had used from the mid-1990's until the Intel CPU platform in 2006, Rosetta allowed Mac users to continue to use their library of PPC software transparently in emulation.
However, Apple's license to continue to use this technology expired with new releases of OS X commencing with Lion (and now Mountain Lion).  While educational efforts have been made over the last 6 years, the fact is that Rosetta was SO successful that many users were caught unaware UNTIL they upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Workarounds:
    1. If your Mac will support it, restore OS X Snow Leopard;
    2.  If your Mac will support it, partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it and use the "dual-boot" method to choose between your PowerPC software or Lion/Mt. Lion;
    3.  Upgrade your software to Intel compatible versions if they are available, or find alternative software that will;
    3.  Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels:

Full Snow Leopard installation instructions here:

NOTE: STEP ONE of the instructions must currently be completed on a Snow Leopard or Lion Mac and the resulting modified Snow Leopard.cdr install file can then be moved over to your Mountain Lion Mac for completion of the remaining steps.  A recent poster has offered a solution for Mountain Lion users that do not have access to Snow Leopard or Lion Macs.

  • Microsoft word disappeared from desktop

Microsoft word disappeared from desktop.  Can I just load it off of DVD that was used originally to load it on the imac?  Do I need to remove microsoft office first (other office items are still there)?

If it's the Dock that's missing the icon, you've not really lost anything. Open Applications > Microsoft Office and find the Word app:
Click and hold on its icon and drag it to where you want it in the Dock to restore it.

  • HP Laserjet PRO MFP125nw doesn't print Microsoft Word documents from PC

    Hello.
I've recently bought a brand new HP Laserjet PRO MFP125nw printer. The functions seemed really nice and the price was acceptable. I've brought it to my home, installed it following the manual, connected it to Wi-Fi etc. It generally works fairly well. PDF files are printed perfectly well, the scaning function works and it's generally a nice piece of technology.
The only problem is that it just doesn't want to pring Microsoft Word documents from my PC. It prints it perfectly when I try to print .docx from my smartphone using the app, but it doesn't respond when I try doing it from the PC.
My Office version is 2007 Enterprise. Do you have any idea what I should do?
    Thank you in advance

Thank you a lot for a quick reply, Cbert. It's fantastic to see HP actually reading their forums and trying to help!
I'll try plugging it into the wall and directly to the PC with a USB, we'll see if it works out.
About Word, i've already tried reinstalling Word, even installed a 2003 version to check if it works with that. Well it doesn't. And as i've written before, I tried turning some .docx files to .pdf using a converter, but it still doesn't print them.
Anyway, i'll try the first two points and keep you updated, thanks!

Hi, I just tried to open Word and this message appeared - 'You can't open the application Microsoft Word because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.' I just recently loaded OS X Lion does this mean my software for MS Office is now out of date?  Do I have to purchase a new package? Any help appreciated.

    Hello:
Office 2004 was written for the PowerPC chip only.  There is no emulation in OS X 10.7.
I encountered the same issue sometime ago when I updated to OS X 10.7.
There is one option that I might mention (other than buy Office 2011).  I switched to Apple's iWork.  Pages (the word processing package) is completely compatible with Word.  If you export Pages documents, you can export them in formats compatible with Microsoft programs.  iWork also contains programs that are compatible with Office presentation and spreadsheet packages.
The reason I mention this is that the cost is about 1/2 of the cost of Office.

Install Snow Leopard on another boot partition, or upgrade Microsoft Office to a newer version, or use any number of better alternatives. Some of them are free.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice ($10)
    OpenOffice (completely free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft.

Why am I getting the following error message? "You can’t open the application “Microsoft Word” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."  I never used to have a proble!

Only Office for Mac 2008 and 2011 will run on Mavericks. Microsoft support for the former package ended in April 2013. If you do not want to spend the money, you might download and try the donation-ware (free) LibreOffice Suite. No ribbon bar crap. Supports about any document created on Windows.

  • Can you launch and close a Microsoft Word file from Captivate 8.01?

Can you launch and close a Microsoft Word Document from inside your Captivate 8.01 project?
    Thank you, L

You can launch it as long as the server has the mime/type, especially if a docx.
Doubt that you can close it.

  • Microsoft Word Freezing Repeatedly, Application Not Responding

Just wondering if anyone else was having issues with Microsoft Word from MS Office 2008, where you open the application, you type a few sentences, and the application freezes with the spinning circle of death that won't go away until you click the dock where it says "application not responding" and do a force-quit? You can leave the circle spinning for 10-20-30 minutes, and it never goes away.
Now for the weird part--this error only happens for me when I'm using a specific document on my computer. I can open Word, start a new document, type several paragraphs of text, and it works fine. But I've been working on an existing paper for about two months that all of a sudden started causing these freezes/crashes when editing it. It's about 30 pages roughly, no images, no big inserts that would take up a lot of memory (116 kb in size). And up until today, there were no problems. So why all of a sudden can't I edit anything on this paper without freezing the program?! I downloaded the Microsoft Office 2008 Service Pack 1 that was just released after this problem started, and ran all the recent Java and program updates through Software Update with computer restarts. I even copied the text from the Word document I was working on, pasted it into a new document, tried saving it as both .doc and .docx, and again the program still freezes when working with that text in a new file. This one baffles me. It's like the text within a document is somehow freezing the application. One thing I did notice is that the freezes seem to happen when I'm scrolling using a mouse wheel. Not always, but quite a bit. I suppose this is some memory issue related to several pages of text that the program can't render or process when you add new lines of text or scroll, but again, I can't figure why this paper I've been working on for months all of a sudden decided to start freezing Word today. Can you really only have 30 double-spaced pages of text in Word before it crashes?
Looks like I've found my reason to switch to Open Office, since I'm 3-4 days out from a deadline. Any other solution strategies would be welcome. Thanks.

Same problem here - Microsoft Word 2008 (update 12.1.7) will open fine, and then start the spinning pizza of death. Only way out is to force-quit the app. I've tried:
    1) deleting plist and font cache files
    2) uninstalling MS Office 2008, reinstalling and then re-applying updates 12.1.0 and 12.1.7
    3) confirming that Apple's Font Card.app can verify all fonts
No luck. Currently I can't open any MS word doc without the spinning pizza of death.
If you are lucky enough that these symptoms only happen with a specific Word .doc file, I would see if the PC-originator could re-save the file as .RTF and resend. If you can then open it OK, you could revert back to .doc (or .docx) format. RTF format is Microsoft's interchange format. If there are anomalies in the .doc file, saving as .RTF can sometimes clean them up. Once done, you can revert back to native MS Word format.

  • How to open word document from application server?

    hello ,
I want to open a word document that is placed on the application server.
the function module 'ws_execute' works fine for displaying documents placed on ur local file system. But if i want to open from application server, what needs to b done?
i m referring to the following demo program 'SAPRDEMOOFFICEINTEGRATION'
is this the correct reference or there is some other way to do the same?
    kindly help.
    Regards,
    Roshani

    Hi Roshani,
              The solution is like this.
1> Execute - this is the solution to your program. The file is generated and put in the Application Server for the data to be sent by some means to the intended Place.
2> To Display/View - This is for the person (who runs the program) to view if the output generated is correct or not.
So to accomplish this use the same internal table for both Open Dataset and Gui download.
Open dataset puts data onto the Application server and Gui_download puts the data onto the Desktop or Presentation server for the user to see the data thats fetched.
So use them as directed to achieve the desired output.
    Reward Points.
    Thanks,
    Tej..
