Microsoft Word is almost unuseable on my macbook

so here's the deal, i recently upgraded from a g3 ibook to a brand spanking new macbook, and i was quite impressed with the performance untill i booted up word. in all honesty, it runs worse than it did on the old g3!!! it takes forever to load, it just does everything slowly. whats going on here! i'm blaming rosetta, is there anything i can do before a universal version of office comes out?
btw i have the lowest end macbook (512mb ram and 1.85 gHz processor)

Another potential issue is where the file was originally created. I do freelance writing and editing from time to time, and I've found that if the file was created in Word on a Mac, it seems to runner better than a file created on Windows. Of course, the difference another 512MB of RAM will do is incomparible to this slight delay, but this delay is still annoying. Anyone else notice this?
It might be that I've also gotten lots of files that were first created in Coreldraw, then converted into .doc files on a Windows compter, and then sent to me. These are definitely the worst, and any help on dealing with them would be greatly appreciated, by me at least.

  • My microsoft word won't open anymore in macbook pro with latest OSX

I had installed OSX latest version some months ago and there was no problem with opening all documents in words.
Just today I can open the word document but stalled and could not edit as there is a rolling icon (processing) appeared.
I did remove the word program by using my MacKeeper software remove installed program.
Then I insert the Microsoft Office 2011 original CD to reinstall the microsoft office again.
Before the crash and after the reinstallation both My Excel and Powerpoint are doing ok .. can
be opened and used to edit ppt and xls documents.
Before the word program removed .. when I opened the word document just appeared
"opening normal dot" message.  This had never happened before the stalled opened
    word document.
I did also restart the macbook pro (version 2011 manufacturing date) but now my word
even can not be opened with error reporting message as follows:

what am I supposed to do to ? I try to googling the topic but can not find the exact similar incident in google search

Thankyou so much for your sharing and suggestions.

I am running Word for Mac v 14.2.0 quite happily on my iMac 27" running Maverick 10.9.4.
Possibly it is due to issues with your Retina screen? The obvious first step is to update Word to the latest version.
Virus attacks are not the first guess on a Mac. I have never ever had one nor even been able to locate any malware for well over a decade. Word can harbour Macro viruses but I thought that the Mac version of Word didn't do macros.
Either way this is not the place to get your answers. Pages is not Word. Use Microsft's support forums for their software.

  • None of my Saved Microsoft Word documents will open on my MacBook Pro. Does anyone know why this is happening, and help me open them?

A message pops up saying 'Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, the document might not be a valid Word document, or the file name might contain invalid characters (for example, \/).' The documents are certainly not open, and I don't know why they would be invalid. Please help!

www.doc.investintech.com/Check for Microsoft updates, the docs could be old, and need a converter:
A worst do a command P, and turn to a PDF and send like that (yes it *****)
Also try a copy and paste to a new doc.
    Hope this helps.

  • What does a person do if microsoft word won't open on the macbook air?

so ive downloaded the microsoft office and i tired using word. but then went to open it and it wont open up the program what do i do?

    Good!
Next, if you can open any Office program (enough to get to its menu), do Help > Check for Updates.
There are plenty of updates out there, since it's been so long since the original release.
If you cannot open any Office program enough to get to the menu, see if you can find the Microsoft Office Updater in the Finder and execute it directly.

  • Updated microsoft word 2011 version 14.4.3 and it does not have an "illustrations" grouping or "screen shot" option like 2010 did.

I clicked the update for my microsoft word program that came with my macbook pro when it showed there were updates.  Now I have Microsoft Word 2011 Version 14.4.3  It seems to have LESS options that the previous version and is not user friendly.
I can't find help information on line about it either because it is too new?  I used the "illustrations" grouping, and " screen shot" options all of the time to create documents to be used in my teaching.  Now I can't figure
out how to do that with the new version.  It seems they were taken out???????  If that is the case, how do I reverse the update and get my previous version back?

    Hi,
Please note we support Office for Windows in the current forum, as for the questions about Office for Mac, they should be better to be addressed in the Office for Mac forum:

  • Cannot Print anything in Microsoft word 2007 program.

I have an HP Desktop 1000  j110a  printer.  My computer is lap top windows 7.  As of today I'm unable  to print
anything from my microsoft word 2007. I can ,however, print from ALL other programs on my computer with
great success. This has never happened before, and I've been printing successfully in my microsoft word for
almost a year. There has been no changes made to our system before this issue occurred.  I feel  this is something
simple to correct, but I cannot find the problem. Please help me.  Thank you for your time in this matter.
    mctle5

    Hi mctle5,
The issue appears to be specifically from Microsoft Word, as you are able to print from all other programs without issue. The first step to take would be to try and repair Microsoft Word. I have included the steps on how to do this.
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Control Panel
    3. Click on Programs and Features
    4. Right click on Microsoft word
    5. Click on Repair
Try printing from Microsoft Word. If you are still having problems after this. The next step would be to delete the Normal.Dot template for Word. I have included the document 'TECH TIP: Fixing your Normal.dot'.
Please let me know if you are able to print from Word after this.
    Thank you.

What do you want to do specifically.  They are two different document formats - one is PDF, the other DOC or DOCX.  In what way do you wish to "add" ad PDF to a word document. You can embed a mini version within a document (copy it and paste it from within the x.doc) but that's a pretty hokey looking solution.
Oh, its mostly irrelevant if its office 2004,8 or 11 - they all do this more or less the same way.

You mean for Office apps? That, I don't know for sure as I don't use MS Office on my Mac. I would check to see if there is some sort of MS Office uninstaller that needs to be run before dragging the icons to Trash. Either from one of the Office apps Help or About or search the Internet for a solution.
EDIT: A quick Google search found this link which may help you.

Why not? Are there error messages? Where are the files located? Why are you deleting MicroSoft Word files?
