I have office 2008 BUT for some reason.... nothing opens ... every single file word related doesn't open:
YOU CAN'T OPEN THE APP MICROSOFT WORD BECAUSE POWER PC APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER SUPPORTED!!
Nothing from microsoft works, excel, powerpoint, messanger, word....
If you are getting this error message than you don't have Office for Mac 2008, you have version 2004. But don't panic, your receipes are not "gone." The files are still on your HDD, in the same place they were before you upgraded to Lion.
You've got some options.
1. In a pinch TextEdti can open and save a .doc or .docx file. So you can use that.
2. You can upgrade to Office for Mac 2011.
3. You can crossgrade to Apple's iWork suite of productivity software.
4. Or you can download one of the many open source MS Office alternatives such as OpenOffice.

I want to go back to Snow Leopard 10.6 from Lion 10.7.2. Quicken 2007 is not compatible with Lion and I don't like Quicken Essentials 2012.

    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • Microsoft Office will not work with Lion!

Have just installed Lion, now I can not use microsoft office (Word,XL,PPS), message says "POWERPC applications no longer supported" Any help appreciated.

Sounds like you are using Office 2004 or earlier and if so, as the error message provide indicates, PowerPC applications are no longer supported with Lion, and Office 2004 was witten for Macs with a PowerPC processor. The reason PowerPC applications worked on Macs with Intel processors prior to Lion was due to what is called Rosetta, which is no longer supported with Lion.
I believe Office 2008 or whatever the next version was after 2004 and Office 2011 is supported since these are witten for Macs with an Intel processor with OS X.

  • Microsoft Word No Longer Works With Lion?

It says something like "You can't open Microsoft Word Because Power PC Applications are no longer supported."
This just happened after updating to Lion. Is there anything I can do?

Return to Mac OS X 10.6.8, or upgrade Office to 2008 or better, or use a third-party product such as OpenOffice, or run Mac OS X Server 10.5 or 10.6 through a program such as VirtualBox.

  • Microsoft Office 2013 Not Compatible with Windows 8.1??

I have a customer that I recently installed Office 2013 onto their brand new Asus Q550. The entire setup went very well but after 2 hours of use with Outlook, the service just stopped. Curiously I went to Word, same thing! Anyone else having this problem
on their 8.1 device? If so.. Whats the fix???

    Hello,
I have been with Microsoft tech support and connected remotely with our machine. After 2 hours of trying, she finally gave up and asked me if I am already an Assured
member? This way they can help me thoroughly with my problem. I have to pay an amout, so they can help me fix it? I just told her that I will just have to fix it myself.
These computers are brand new and we bought 5 licenses of Office 2013. It only happened when I updated from Windows 8 to 8.1. It was working fine with Windows 8, but
when I updated the machines to 8.1 it stopped all our MS Office 2013 to work.
After a thorough research I was able to fix the problem with all our machines. This
problem has been seen to be caused by certain versions of the third-party DisplayLink User Mode Driver (dlumd32.dll), specifically versions of the dlumd32.dll file lower than 8.7.x.
You need to download and install the latest Display Link Software at http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php

  • Microsoft OS version not compatible with iPod shuffle software

Does anyone know of a Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 compatible iPod Updater?

If it's from 2006 or later, which it sounds like it is, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6): http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
If you run Software Update after you get it, it should offer 10.6.8, and if run run it again after that, it should offer iTunes 11.
If you want, you can even update all the way to OS X Mavericks (10.9), the latest release of OS X, if your iMac is from 2007 or later, which is sounds like it is. Mavericks is free but requires Snow Leopard first.

  • Canon MF4150 not compatible with Lion.

    Hello,
I upgraded to Lion and since my Canon Image Class MF4150 doesn't want to print anymore. I checked the Canon's website and no drivers are out yet to support Lion.
Canon UFR II Driver Error : Printer open failed.: -9781
Anyone have a workaround (other than downgrading to Snow Leopard or buying a new printer)?
    Thanks
    Nic

    Hi,
I have a MB Pro running Lion 10.7.2.
I Have a Canon MF4150 also, and recently worked out how to print and scan.
To print you should just download the UFR II Printer Driver V2.30 for Mac OSX 10.4/...
    from http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass_ser ies/imageclass_mf4150#DriversAndSoftware
    Then install the mpkg file
After you have done this go to:
    Settings
    Print and Scan
Add printer ( + ) - make sure printer is connected (USB)
Select the printer from the list
Go to the 'Print Using' dropdown box
    Press 'Select printer software'
Scroll down until you find 'Canon MF4100 Series UFRII LT'
    Select this
For the set up press 'Ok'
    Done
For scanning, I have looked at various threads etc and have even called Canon (they say that they have no solution for this issue)
The only thing that works is this third party software called Vuescan
You van try it for free but then you have to buy if you want it.

I tried it myself, and was amazed that it worked instantly.

  • Is iPhoto8.1.2 compatible with Lion?

I have several thousand scanned slides stored in iPhoto. I have too many Horror stories about disappearing photos and/or metadata to risk Updating to iPhoto 11. If iP{hoto is not compatible with Lion then Lion is DOA with me

One would expect iPhoto '09 to be compatible however until Lion is released it certainly is impossible to answer the question
As to iPhoto '11 - best you stop listening to horror stories and look at facts - iPhoto '11 is solid and works well and has millions and millions of happy users - and a very few unhappy ones as does every software package - all that is required to protect your precious photos is a good backup - and if you do not have one you will lose them (along with your other files) sooner or later
After Lion is released read the documentation and check to see if people are having problems with older versions of iPhoto

  • Adobe is not Compatible with Vista? or not compatible with 64bit Vista?

From reading through some of the threads here, I am still a
bit confused. Is Captivate 4 not compatible with Windows Vista at
all? Or just not supposedly compatible with 64bit Vista?
Has anyone tried to do a software simulation recording of the
start button, or start menu, or any control panel windows? It
doesn't register a click at all! It will not record a frame!
This is rediculous Adobe. You had, what... 2 years almost? to
develop Captivate 4? And you can't even make it Vista compaitble?
I suppose you'll drop Captivate 5 in 6 months and make
everyone pay $400 for an upgrade just so they can record anything
in Vista? This had better be a high priority update. As it stands
right now, I have to do full motion recording. If I want to do
    that, I will use Camtasia!!!
Please give me an answer or a workaround.... Someone..
    Anyone.
I am using 64bit and it works fine if recording within an IE
window. All editing, recording, etc functions work fine. I have
tried to do this on a 32 bit version as well with no luck
(recording start menu / button/ control panel windows/etc)
    Thank you.

    > The problem somehow lies in the system windows. I always
    run captivate "as

    "control panel"

    record a capture

    What changed??
    >
Captivate 3 and 4 work fine on 32-bit Vista. Neither is fully
    compatible
with 64-bit Vista, so far as I know, but you should be able
    to get results
by running in 32-bit compatibility mode.

  • Will Apple Pages support a third-party font that is not compatible with Microsoft Word?

Will Apple Pages support a third-party font that is not compatible with Microsoft Word?  I do not want to purchase Pages unless I can use it for this one very specific purpose.  How can I determine the correct answer before purchase?
Many thanks for any guidance you can offer.

Hmmm ... I see the font in my Font Book and in Suitcase Fusion, but it doesn't appear on the list of fonts in either Word for Mac or Text Edit, no matter what I tried.  I attempted quitting all applications, cleaning the cache using Suitcase Fusion, and rebooting the computer, but no dice.
You think this is an installation or configuration problem my local Apple store could help fix ... not an underlying incompatibility?  If so, I will take it in.
Please know I sincerely appreciate the help.  I'm at my rope's end on a project this evening and truly grateful for the reinforcement.  Thank you.

I recently updated my Macbook Pro to OS X Mavericks and now I cannot access any of my Microsoft Office apps. Is Mavericks not compatible with Microsoft Office? If not, how do I revert?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Office 2008 and 2011 are compatible with OS X Mavericks.
If you are using Office 2008, I highly recommend you to reinstall the latest Office 2008 update > http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36897 Note that Office 2008 is not supported by Microsoft anymore

  • Be Warned - Mavericks is not compatible with Microsoft Office 365!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be Warned - Mavericks is not compatible with Microsoft Office 365!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I upgraded to Mavericks on 4 seperate computers, an 2 iMacs, MBPro and an MBAir and ALL four no longer connect to Microsoft Office 365 email accounts either with Office 2011 or the built in Mac apps.  Apple support says "Microsoft knew for a year that Mavericks was coming out and it their job to make it compatible".  I repsonded that their own Apps like Mail, Contacts and Calendar don't work either and they attempted to trouble shoot those apps only to no avail after 4 hours and a Mavericks reinstall.  I have also tried an Office reinstall.
Right now I am no where, stuck between two companies who say it's the other guys fault......

    Me again:
A colleagues more formal description of the problem:
We have had a major problem with people working directly off of the afp reshares with MS Word.
Word creates "Word Work Files" and usually is able to store them in either "Share/Temporary Items/uid/TemporaryItems/" or "Share/.TemporaryItems/folders.uid/TemporaryItems" as long as permissions are correct.
This works under 10.5.7 seed release 9J39 with direct attached storage, but with the Xsan reshared the word work files appear in the same folder as the opened document even though the permission for temporary items are correct.
This causes a number of issues, one being that if one user has a document open and another clears out the word work file then the open document cannot be saved.
Another issue that we have seen is where the word work file is created and then the original document disappears (although I think this may be another user housekeeping the word work files again).
We have tried to persuade users to work on local copies of the documents instead, but old habits die hard...

  • My imac is running mountain lion and last night i downloaded maverick. in midst of installing it it said a powerPC app microsoft word would not work so i canceled the install for the time being. my questions is  if i choose to finish installing maverick

my imac is running mountain lion and last night i downloaded maverick. in midst of installing it, it said a powerPC app microsoft word would not work so i canceled the install for the time being. my questions is  if i choose to finish installing maverick does that mean i will nevver be able to access word documents stored on my desktop? or do the word docs automatically convert to pages or what? i am so confused. would i be better off just sticking with mountain lion and send the maverick install to the trash? hoping someone will be able to answer my question though i am afraid the response is likely to be just stick with mountain lion so you can keep using word. i had been looking forward to maverick but it seems pretty drastic to not have access to microsoft word anymore by switching to maverick. hope someone has an answer so i can have the best of both worlds so to speak!

thanks for your response Csound1 on the peninsula ... if i go ahead and install maverick and then download LibreOffice or OpenOffice will i then be able to access old microsoft word saved documents on my deskstop through those two free alternatives? i am not that knowledgeable about these things so i am not sure if you are saying i will just be able to use libreoffice or openoffice for creating new documents or whether i can access the saved microsoft docs? are they transferred to OO or LO or what and if editing of the old word docs is needed can i do that through the OO and LO programs or apps (see i am not even sure if i am using the correct vocabulary!) hope you can answer this as quick as the first question, so i can decide to stick with mountain lion and trash the maverick install or proceed with maverick install and hoppe that my microsoft word docs are still accessible through OO or LO or adding to myquestion will pages on maverick be able to open the old word documents? thanks again!
