Microsoft word, Skype, Safari quits

Hello,
I am a new Mac user, for some reason a week ago I started having problems with the Microsoft word, I can't open it. I can't open Powerpoint, Excell...etc. I can't even open any word docs.
Now, Skpye started quitting, I can't open that either.
Safari quits very often.
I tried installing a new copy of Microsoft word, still doesn't work, someone told me there might be a conflict with another program that I might have downloaded, which I don't think I did.
Does someone know if I am missing something, is it normal?
What should I do?

Marcella, welcome to the MacBook forum!
The MacBook should come with a trial version of MicroSoft Office. This version will work for 30 days. Then you would have to replace it with a "bought" version, if you want to keep using MS Office.
As an alternative, you can use the free NeoOffice program, which can read and write Microsoft files. You can download it here (be sure to get the Intel version):

(Since you are new to the Forums, may I suggest that you don't type with CAPITAL LETTERS. Some people find this hard to read and it is often interpreted as SHOUTING!)

I upgraded my computer from a G4 powerbook to a MBP. In the process I also went from system X.3.9 to 4.6.
Since opgrading I have problems with Microsoft Word.
When I log out or shut down Microsoft Word refuses to quit. It hangs and I have to force quit it to get the computer to log of or shut down.
Any suggestions to fix it

It's a combo update.
Well, yes, and I remember that 11.2.0 (Mac Service Pack 2, and the version I am at) supposedly addressed stability issues with Word, but I can't find any info on the download page that suggests 11.2.1-11.2.4 does anything else to address Word stability (e.g. 11.2.1 deals mainly with an Entourage issue for example).

Microsoft Word 2007 Unexpectedly Quits

Every time I am working on Microsoft Word 2007 it unexpectedly quits and gives me an error message. It asks to report and I go ahead and do so. Does anyone know why it randomly quits?

If you're talking about Word 2008 for Mac you should consider posting your question in Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products, as sine it's not an Apple product, they would be geared more toward your issue than an Apple forum.

If your document has fonts attached you can convert to Microsoft word that is quite possible. But if the fonts were used to create the file arent present in the system the Microsoft word may not be able to retain the layout of the document.
There shouldn't be any problem for ExportPdf service to convert your document.
To check fonts used for that PDF. Open PDF either in Reader or In Acrobat. Click on File go to Properties. Document Property windows will appear there is Fonts Tab. You will the fonts embedded for the document.

Copying tables in a word processor program (i.e. Microsoft Word)

There may be another thread pertaining to the subject of this topic. If I copy a table from Safari and paste it into Microsoft Word it shows up as one big paragraph instead of the table from the web page I am copying the information from. Now, when I use IE 7 and do the copy/paste method it works out fine. Is there some way to copy and paste a table from a web page into Microsoft Word via Safari. The web page I am copying the table information from is: http://www.sunflowerbroadband.com/cable/ondemand/upcoming/?network=wwe.

Safari is copying only the text from your browser to your clipboard.
IE7 is copying the text and the table to your clipboard. Because of this, it looks different when you paste it into Word.

1. Quit Word
2. In the Finder's menu bar, select Go > Go to folder and type or paste: ~/Library/Preferences/
3. Click on Go
4. Locate the preference file com.microsoft.Word.plist, then Option-drag it to the desktop to create a backup copy
5. Go to Applications/Utilities and open Terminal
6. Paste the following bold command at the $ prompt (it's a single line):
defaults write com.microsoft.Word 14\\Toolbars\\Show_HIToolbar -boolean TRUE
7. Press Return and then quit with Command Q
8. Start Word and test. If the fix works, trash the backup file in the Desktop file. Otherwise, restore it.
In the original source the author also mentions the change in Word 2008

After updating to Yosemite, why will my windows in Safari and Microsoft Word close unexpectedly with no method of retrieval?

On two different occasions after updating to Yosemite this has happened. On the first occasion I had two documents open in Microsoft Word and after looking something up on Safari, attempted to go back to the two open documents. Microsoft Word was showing as open, but the documents were nowhere to be seen and I also could open nothing else and was forced to force quit without saving my work on those documents.
A similar thing occurred today with Safari. I had many tabs open in one window in Safari. I closed my laptop to move to another room, and upon opening my laptop again Safari was still open, but all my tabs of different research papers I had were gone. When I chose the "reopen all windows from last session" option, it reopened windows I had not had open for many days, and not the ones I had been working off that day.
This is extremely annoying and as a scientist, I was forced to once again look up the many papers I needed for a grant proposal that I had not yet copied down reference information for. Why is this happening?

Unless your bank's website is insecure, you're fine. Go up to the Safari "Search" bar and type in Rapport. You'll be amazed. It may "work" on PCs, but definitely not Macs. And it's not needed for Macs.

I should just change the OS and leave all your apps and data alone. That said, if any of your apps are old and use Rosetta (ppc apps), they won't run under Mountain Lion.
Make sure you take a good Time Machine or Clone backup before you convert.

I assume this is the latest Mav OS...so the version would be 10.9.2? It was suppose to be a free download from Apple.

My safari keeps crashing after one minute + microsoft word won't open

Hey,
I'm having some trouble with my safari crashing very soon after it opens every single time I open it. I'm not very mac-savvy so i'm not sure what the problem could be. After a while my microsoft word stopped opening, is this related? The Word thing happened after i did a safari & itunes update, may it have been affected by this? I downloaded updates for "Office for Mac" a few days ago and it won't finish. It keeps saying I have to close Safari, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint and I don't have any of these open. Can anybody help me?

Did you do this through one of the Office app updates, or did you download it directly from the Microsoft website?
Whichever way you tried it, I would try it the opposite way this time, although simply repeating what you did before may also work.

Safari quits; Is this a Microsoft version/vision of things to come

I just got off the phone with support and nothing accomplished. Safari quits when playing an imedded player. And No help.
Reset Safari, tried deleting files as some posts listed and still the same; Everything seems to work in Firefox.

Thanks for trying to help and all those that viewed the post.
I am not computer savvy but I dug a little and found out that with Safari/preferences and "click to flash" I listed web sites for flash to work - or something - everything now works.
Its kind of nice because all the some ads don't automatically load - I suppose.
Anyway I take back that Microsoft comment.
