Microsoft Word Web App - Sorry, we ran into a problem

Hi,
I have seen a lot of articles with similar error, however none articles seems to answer my problem.
In my environment I'm getting the following error when I preview word documents. (both .docx and .doc). All other office file formats are working without fail.
There is no error in my ULS logs.
The document preview is working fine and also editing documents within my browser is working fine.
I'm using SharePoint 2013 (on premises) with IE10 (10.0.18). (From my client machine using Chrome works fine)
When I do the same from the SharePoint server in the farm running IE11 (11.0.10) then all works fine.
my default zone(and only zone) is using https.
Additonally: There are multiple applications running on this farm only one application seems to have this problem. The main difference is that the failing application runs FBA. I can't imagine however that FBA is the problem here (maybe part of the problem?)
as it's working in Chrome and on IE 11 on the servers.

Hi Pieter,
Thanks for the sharing and have a good day.

  • Error: Microsoft word web app -Sorry we ran into a problem - IE 11

    Hi,
    I am using Windows 8\Office 2013 32bit\IE 11.
When opening word docs in SharePoint 2013, the Word Web App shows the error "Microsoft word web app -Sorry we ran into a problem" and does not open the file.
SharePoint site is a http one. The document is getting opened in IE 9 (checked in different machine).
Excel also displays an error, but opens the file.
    How to fix this?
    Thanks

    Hi ,
Have you checked the related uls log when this issue occured?

  • Word Web App "Sorry we ran into a probem" after hotfixes

I installed the March 2013 and October 2013 hotfixes and it appears to have broken my web apps for word. When a document opens, it says "sorry, we ran into a problem" and gives you the option to restart (which returns same error) or exit.
I don't even know how to begin troubleshooting this.
Update: works fine in IE9, but not IE11.

I've run into the same thing:
Resetting did not fix the issue
    Could not reproduce in Chrome
Does not reproduce on all machines
    Windows 8.1 / IE 11 machine:
    Workaround
Went into InPrivate Browsing mode - and could not reproduce the problem there.
Exited and went into normal browsing mode, problem did not reproduce.  BUT - in the same IE session (different TAB), going to my Test environment, the problem still happened.
Went into InPrivate Browsing mode and went to the page in the Test environment, and then brought up IE in regular mode - could not reproduce.  (Even rebooted afterwards - will not reproduce)
    More information
I would get "Windows Error Reporting" event 1001 on the local machine when it failed.

  • Outlook 2013 something went wrong sorry we ran into a problem

my outlook started hanging and causing problems a few days ago where sent messages were sitting in outbox without sending. and when you closed and reopened outlook the messages has vanished completely without sending. I'm unable to get outlook
to open.  I keep getting the message something went wrong sorry we ran into a problem. All other office 2013 programs will function correctly. I have also tried to open the control panel/mail (outlook 2013) (32 bit) icon, but this pauses
for a while and then brings up no window to configure an account. I managed to get my exchange account set up in the mail app but I'm not interested in using the mail app when i should be able to utilize all the functionality of outlook.
I have spent a couple days reading all the posts and tried uninstalling office 2013 pro and the mail app thinking i'd clean install the 64-bit version of office but to no avail. Looks like the preloaded office 13 cannot be uninstalled, so I then
downloaded the O15CTRRemove tool which worked in removing office 2013, but did not fix the problem of outlook not opening. This is driving me crazy and I have tried many suggestions from the online forums, and have got outlook to open a couple of times where
it was then asking for a product key, and when the key was entered outlook would close straight away and not allow it to open again. I have tried running the repair tool many times, and this does not work. Every other program I have had zero issues with; autocad,
adobe suite, everything runs perfect. I just want to get my outlook all set up.Please advise!

    Hi,
Please check whether you can send message in OWA. If there is no issue in OWA, it should be an Outlook issue. It seems that there is just one user encontered this issue in your environment. If so, please start Outlook in safe mode by using "Outlook /safe"
in Run windows to check whether the issue persists. If it fails, please change a computer to try again.

  • OWA - "Sorry, we ran into a problem" when openingen word and pdfs

    Hi,
I have a weird problem similar to
this one where office web apps will not open my word and pdfs on my SharePoint server. Other documents like excel and powerpoint are working just fine. I'm running SP1+ on both SP2013 and OWA server.
When I open a word or pdf document it opens my document in view mode and displays this error aswell:
It works fine in other browser such as Google Chrome and also if I change emulation mode to IE9.
If I check the debugging of the site I get this error:
Object doesn't support property or method 'selectSingleNode'
My site is added to the local intranet zone.
The problem is only located on our a new Citrix farm. If I compare the IE security settings and the local Intranet zone with my own client that also runs IE11 the settings are the same. However it works fine on my own machine. IF I choose to Reset my Internet
Explorer settings it works also until I log off Citrix completely and back on.
Any idea on what settings causes this behavior?
    Thanks

Check if your IE Is 32 bit or 64 bit.
Also check Office installed on system is 32 bit or 64 bit
do all users face same issue
did you added both OWA and SharePoint URL in trusted site

  • Unable to open file in browser (Microsoft Word Web App, PDFs, etc) after updates

We just updated with the recent updates, and now are unable to open any documents in the browser in IE. We are using version IE 11. This is not an issue in Firefox or Chrome. Does anyone have any fixes to this? This seems like some sort of compatability
issue, but we are running our browser in compatability mode.
Our temporary fix is just to have documents open in the client program, but this really isn't as convenient.

etoile, can you check the ULS logs on the OWA server at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\OfficeWebApps\Data\Logs\ULS\, reproduce your error, and see what is captured in the log?

  • Sorry, we ran into a problem

I installed Ultimate 2013 for free. I had a license a year ago. It is now expired. However my free license for 90 days should still work. I entered my code to run it, and I get the dialog Sign in to Visual Studio. I entered my Windows account
and then I get the Why can I not run it for free 90 days?message 'Sorry' and a message from an id license has expired.

If you have been using Visual Studio Ultimate for free for over a year, don't you feel some obligation that is it finally time to pay?
Also, keep in mind, that perhaps you would be eligible for Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition, which is free, and does pretty much what Ultimate does.

  • Excel Services "We're Sorry. We ran into a problem..." after applying updates

Excel Services had been configured and working fine.  This past weekend we applied all of the microsoft updates to the Sharepoint Server and it's related database server.  Since then, Excel Services has been giving us the dreaded "We're Sorry.
We ran into a problem..." error.
All services are running.  I tried restarting everything.  Went back and checked all the relevant Sharepoint configs. I can't find anything in the ULS logs that looks relevant.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Steven,
Did you run Product and Configuration Wizard on each SharePoint server after installing updates?
If not, please run it first and then do an IISRESET to see how it works.
If above cannot work, I recommend to verify the things below:
Check if the Excel service has been associated with the web application with issue. If not, associate the service application with the web application.
Grant Excel Services access rights to the SharePoint Content database.
Verify that the account has correct permissions in SQL Server.
For detailed steps for the options above, please refer to the link below:
    http://algrandi.azurewebsites.net/index.php/excel-services-application-crashes-sp-20102013/
Please also check ULS log to see if the issue below occurs:

  • Word Web App (2013) can't open this document ... Because the service is busy

I have just set up Office Web Apps Server in a SharePoint 2013 test environment as per document here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx
Although I had some issues with Excel Web App at first, I've solved this and excel seems to work ok, However, the Word Web App just sits there spinning and ultimately give the error dialog:
"Sorry, Word Web App can't open this document because the service is busy. Please try again later"   The Same link as above has a simple solution :
Did you install Office Web Apps Server on a domain controller? Office Web Apps Server cannot run on a domain controller. Office Web Apps Server must be installed on a separate server that is part of a domain. For more information, see
Software, hardware, and configuration requirements for Office Web Apps Server.
I certainly did not install on a DC - its a standalone server.
ULS Logs are growing by 2K per second even when I am not doing anything on the server.
    VERY FRUSTRATED!

So after further research we have found the following:
Un-bind and unindstall Web Application Server
    Clean Server
Reinstall (by Mistake to the C: Drive)
    Bind and Provision
    WOW it works!
Un-bind, deprovision, Uninstall, Web Application Server
    clean Server
    Re-install to the D: Drive
    Provision and Bind
wow - it DOES NOT work
Again - repeat the first scenario
    and once again IT WORKS
SO Why doesn't it work on the D Drive - We've checked IIS Setting and Permission - there don't seem to be any differences.
SO - Why isn't this working when changing the default installation location, is it just me?   Has anyone gotten this working installing to another drive?
    Thanks

  • Office Web Apps Server 2013 - Word Web App - Problem with Tab space

Hello We have Office Web Apps Server 2013 running with SharePoint 2013.  Users Editing a Word document with Office Web Apps, can't use "Tabs", any Word document with Tabs; the tabs are replaced with a single space.

  • Word Web App can't open a document (corruption) but Word Desktop can

    Hi,
My team and I are currently working on integrating a custom WOPI-Host and everything is going pretty good.  While testing out different documents that will be used in the system to see the supported features and the reaction of Word Web App we found
    a document that is problematic.
First things first, we took a document that was in Word 97-2003 version (.doc) and converted it in Word Documents (.docx).  We had to actually use the Word Desktop Convert functionality because using "Save As" wouldn't work.  We found
out that the document had Custom XML Data which was the reason that the "Save As" didn't work.  So we did 2 version of the document in docx version.  One that kept the Custom XML Data and one that didn't have it.
Now when we try to open the documents in the Word Web App, both trigger the same error: "Sorry, Word Web App can't edit this document because it appears to be corrupt.".  What I don't really understand is that I can open them in the Desktop
version of Word without any problems.  Also, if it was simply the Custom XML Data that would prevent Word Web App to open the document, how come the version of the document without these Custom XML Data is still considered corrupted by the Word Web App.
If needed, I can send the documents in question (probably by email since I don't see an option to attach them to this question).
    Thanks,
    Patrick Racicot

    Hi,
I understand you can't open the Word documents from Word Web App, but may I know how you converted them? What is that "Word Desktop Convert functionality"? Would you please detail the steps of the conversation?
When you try the "Save As" method, any prompt or error? Can you keep saving just ignoring the error?
Before the conversation, I suggest you try removing the hyperlinks in the original .doc document, then convert the document to .docx format, check if then it can be opened from the Word Web App.
Feel free to post back to provide more information.
    Thanks,

  • Insert SharePoint document version in Word documents - Viewing in Word Web App

    Hello all,
I'm using Labels with the label format {Version} to display the SharePoint document version in MS Office documents stored on my company´s SharePoint site. This works fine if I open the document from the Word client application but if I open it from Word Web
App it displays the previous version number (a minor one). After half an hour or so, when I open the document in Word Web App, the version number is the correct one. I tought it was related with the IE cache so I cleaned it but the results were the same.
Is there any way around this?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
By design. Versioning is a property of a SharePoint item. When displaying an item from SharePoint, Office Web Apps only checks if there has been any change to the file content. It does not check for changes in metadata (if the Properties of the file have
been modified). It then displays the cached image of the last modified version of the file instead of running a new file conversion. This is why the last minor version is displayed in the Content Control instead of the major version. This behaviour is completely
intended and designed to work this way. This is, in fact, a performance optimization. If we would not have this performance optimization in place, then this would mean that Office Web Apps would need to download the file again every time there is a metadata
change (which would, of course, mean overloading the SharePoint server).
I found a similar thread as below, please refer to it for workaround:
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/75c09197-934b-42ff-8de6-c321267dfd68/document-property-not-updated-when-viewing-a-word-document-in-office-web-apps

I just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS6.  In the process, I ran into a problem and had to restore factory settings.  After syncing the phone, I see that 218 apps need to be updated. When selecting "update all," it says "Cannot Download.  There is not enough available local storage to download these items.  You can manage your local device storage usage in Settings."
How can this be the case when I haven't changed any apps from before updrading to iOS6, and I don't have any music yet on the phone?  Why is it telling me there is not enough local space?

    Hi RileyAvaCadenRiver,
If you recently updated your iPhone to iOS7, you will need to update iTunes on your computer to iTunes 11.1 or newer for it to correctly recognize the iPhone. You may find the following link helpful:
