Microsoft Word won't save

Recently when I have tried to save documents in Word it has been telling me "Word is connecting to a printer." It tries to connect remotely, even if I have it hooked directly into my printer. Then Word freezes and I have to force quit, losing my document. I have resorted to copying the document into an email and sending it to myself just so I have a copy of what I wrote. I'm in law school and my notes are my life. I have no idea how to fix this problem, or why Word insists on connecting to a printer when all I want to do is save the document.

Actually, i've had this problem too for about 3 months now...
but it doesn't just apply to word, when this happens to word, i can't save ANYTHING (e.g. TextEdit, PS, etc)
I think this may be more Mac OS X related?

You must need to update to Office 2008 or 2011 Office to work with Lion, or else use a program such as Pages or penOffice to open and convert the files.

  • Microsoft word 2008 slow save with iMac 2009 and yosemite

I have microsoft word running on 4 different iMacs, all using Yosemite.  My 2008 iMac 2009 iMac  and 2014 retina display iMac all save word docs quickly.  My 2011 iMac saves word docx and word doc documents slowly.   All machines are basically the same.  Memory is not the issue.  I am running same updated version of word 2008 in same configuration.  I reinstalled word on 2011 slow save iMac to no avail.  problem started after upgraded to yosemite.  i have 12 gigs of ram as i thought ram was issue.  Any thoughts welcome. Are others noticing same problem?

There has been a better and free alternative to old versions of MS Word and MS Office since forever. Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 is the latest version of a free and complete All-In-One document processor, spreadsheet, drawing, presentation, database, & formula software, found here: http://www.openoffice.org
It also reads, writes and translates MS Word, saves in many formats, and is pretty easy to use. It's entirely modern and compatible with all the latest Mac operating systems. Good luck.

  • Word won't save revised document.

Tried Command S and regular Save As.  When I print, the added text doesn't appear on  the preview or the printed copy.  Any help for this? I'm working on a MacBook Pro with newly installed Microsoft Word and a saved document from my old PC.

I think you'll get a faster solution by posting in Microsoft's commuity forums for Office" Mac here:
    Office for Mac forums
It seems we Mac users have been slow to adopt Office 2011 (I'm keeping Office 2008 as long as I can) and, as a result, your question will not get as much traffic here as it would in the MS forums I linked.

I was able to open the file as a Pages Document, copied it, opened a new Pages file and pasted the information.  I saved it and started to work on the paper when suddenly it crashed.  When I re-opened the document none of the changes I had made were there.  When I went to save it I was told I do not have permission to save anything.
I don't know what to do.  This is the only computer to which I have access for the next few days and I have to finish my research papers for class!  Please, I need help!

    Wouldn't call "maybe" unbridled enthusiasm!
…but unlike me he knows what is going on and can get at your System.
You can certainly delete Pages 5, just by trashing the app from Applications, but I am not sure it would fix your problem.
Couldn't hurt to try so long as you can access the App Store with your Apple I.D. to download it again.

btw I was deadly serious about avoiding Pages 5 if at all possible.

  • My microsoft word won't open anymore in macbook pro with latest OSX

I had installed OSX latest version some months ago and there was no problem with opening all documents in words.
Just today I can open the word document but stalled and could not edit as there is a rolling icon (processing) appeared.
I did remove the word program by using my MacKeeper software remove installed program.
Then I insert the Microsoft Office 2011 original CD to reinstall the microsoft office again.
Before the crash and after the reinstallation both My Excel and Powerpoint are doing ok .. can
be opened and used to edit ppt and xls documents.
Before the word program removed .. when I opened the word document just appeared
"opening normal dot" message.  This had never happened before the stalled opened
    word document.
I did also restart the macbook pro (version 2011 manufacturing date) but now my word
even can not be opened with error reporting message as follows:

what am I supposed to do to ? I try to googling the topic but can not find the exact similar incident in google search
results. Is this some kind of a virus attack ? Does anyone can recommend any solutions that work?
Thankyou so much for your sharing and suggestions.
    Leks

I am running Word for Mac v 14.2.0 quite happily on my iMac 27" running Maverick 10.9.4.
Possibly it is due to issues with your Retina screen? The obvious first step is to update Word to the latest version.
Virus attacks are not the first guess on a Mac. I have never ever had one nor even been able to locate any malware for well over a decade. Word can harbour Macro viruses but I thought that the Mac version of Word didn't do macros.
Either way this is not the place to get your answers. Pages is not Word. Use Microsft's support forums for their software.

  • My safari keeps crashing after one minute + microsoft word won't open

    Hey,
I'm having some trouble with my safari crashing very soon after it opens every single time I open it. I'm not very mac-savvy so i'm not sure what the problem could be. After a while my microsoft word stopped opening, is this related? The Word thing happened after i did a safari & itunes update, may it have been affected by this? • Microsoft Word won't open .docx files.

I cannot get Microsoft Word to open .docx files.

Since it's happening in Guest, it's possible the keyboard plist is also affecting Guest, but normally plist files are only for a specific user. However since this is hardware, I'm not sure.
Let's try some general troubleshooting steps:
Boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
Run Repair Drive and Repair Permissions using Disk Utility in Recovery.
See steps here to reset YOUR permissions while in Recovery drive.**
    Restart
Download and run the combo updater to refresh your OS X files.

  • Microsoft word wonʻt print on yosemite

I saw macbook pro forum with people having Microsoft office Crash in Yosemite. My crash happens whenever I try to print any MS office document. When I click print, it immediately crashes. Iʻve reported my crashes but it I canʻt find anyone else that has the same problem as me for a solution. Has anyone found a way to print from Microsoft office/excel/word on Yosemite?

    Hello all,
I recently downloaded a printer driver for an HP LaserJet Printer. Subsequent to downloading the driver, whenever I would like to print in Microsoft Word 2011, and go to the tab File > Print, Microsoft Word immediately crashes. It is notable that when I print by clicking the printer icon on the toolbar, I am able to print just fine with no crashes. This is certainly somehow connected to the downloading of the driver. I've attempt to solve this problem by repairing permissions in disk utility, to no avail. Please Help! Thanks!

  • After Safari Update, MS Word won't save

Has anyone else gotten the latest Safari update download, and found that MS has lost its ability to save newly created docs? The Safari update was what I did immediately before Word went funny. A reinstall of Word (Office Mac 2004) didn't help. Using latest OS 10.3.9 on a G5 dual 1.8GHz Power PC.

It seems now that the integrity of your OS is fine and that the problem is isolated to Office.
Is it possible that you may have installed an additional third-party component/plug-in to add functionality to Office? If so it might be an idea to locate and trash that. You might also want to trash the preferences at user/[insert user name]/library/preferences. Trashing preferences is often the first thing to do when an application starts crashing.
If the problem still persists then uninstalling and reinstalling might help. Hopefully the install disk has an uninstall option (I'm on the earlier version X so can't check). If you do this, then it would be a good idea to run disk repair/repair permissions first before reinstalling, and run repair permissions again after the install (this is good practice for any OS upgrade and major software installs).
I don't know about the MS crash reporter (none such thing is version X), but it always seems to me that these are to assist software developers to identify problems for future patches/upgrades and not to solve your particular problem(!). In the case of Apple, all one gets is a little "thanks for sending to Apple" balloon. You might want to try the support pages at: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/support.aspx
It's quite usual for applications to show up at HD and user level, so there's nothing wrong there.
As to the Safari crash, do you have any components such as Pith Helmet, Acid Search, Sogudi? These are usually located in SIMBL plug-ins folders and can sometimes cause crashes (I'm troubleshooting just such an issue with Pith Helmet right now).
I do hope you get up and running. The weather having improved here in London, I'm off to watch some cricket!

  • Microsoft Word wants to save the 'Normal' template all the time.

Since a few weeks MS Word (v11.3) has a problem. Every time I quit it asks me f I want to save the changes to the global template 'Normal' (this is the one the programme has as standard and keeps in the folder 'Microsoft User Data').
I have made no changes that I know of, like changed the settings for new documents etc. It would happen if I just open an existing doc and just change the font. I have taken it out of the folder and the programme will create a new one. Same problem. My conclusion is that the template 'Normal’ is not corrupted and the problem must be somewhere else.
It is annoying because I can no longer tell the machine to shutdown and walk away because I need to quit MSW first otherwise it will cancel the shutdown process. As said this is new and in all the years of using it it has never done this.
    Thanks for any suggestions

Not sure how much of this applies to Word on the Mac, but I found this Microsoft page with suggested solutions to the problem: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA011514521033.aspx

  • Microsoft Word won't print

There was another discussion of this issue late last year and early this year, but there was no resolution. I have more information and am still looking for a solution.
I am running Tiger 10.3.5 on a dual-core G5. I have Word X. All of a sudden - I recall no changes that I may have made - Word stopped printing. It brings up the print dialog and goes through the motions, but nothing is delivered to the print queue. It behaves the same whether I'm trying to print to an HP Laserjet 4ML (via wired Ethernet) or a Canon i860 via Airport Express (Bonjour). It won't even print to pdf or to Page Sender! All other applications, including Excel and Powerpoint, continue to print just fine. Also, Word prints fine from my Powerbook, which is configured identically (same Word version, same OS X version, etc.).
It is not a case of a corrupt document; NO Word document will print. Following a suggestion posted here in January, I logged into another account on the G5 and then Word printed fine!
Does anyone else have any ideas what the heck is going on here. More specifically, does anyone know how to fix it?

    Hello Betsy,
First of all, welcome to the Apple discussions.
Can you explain how you upgraded?
    * Did you reinstall the printer driver too?
** Do you see the printer in the printer configuration > you will find that in the Utility folder.
Let me know if so ...

From the computer, everything processes as usual. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • What does a person do if microsoft word won't open on the macbook air?

so ive downloaded the microsoft office and i tired using word. but then went to open it and it wont open up the program what do i do?

    Good!
Next, if you can open any Office program (enough to get to its menu), do Help > Check for Updates.
There are plenty of updates out there, since it's been so long since the original release.
If you cannot open any Office program enough to get to the menu, see if you can find the Microsoft Office Updater in the Finder and execute it directly.
