If your startup disk says it is full, you need to remove some of your stuff.
Either move some documents/movies/pictures to an external drive (if you want to keep them), or delete them from your startup drive. Then, empty the Trash.
If you move them to an external, you will still have to delete them from the internal drive.
That won't fix Office (I don't think), but it will make everything run better. You need a minimum of 10GB free (more would be better).
You might need to reinstall Office. It should work without problem (well, at least as little problem as Office can muster).

Microsoft Word won't open in 10.7.  What to do?

You must need to update to Office 2008 or 2011 Office to work with Lion, or else use a program such as Pages or penOffice to open and convert the files.

  • My imac is running mountain lion and last night i downloaded maverick. in midst of installing it it said a powerPC app microsoft word would not work so i canceled the install for the time being. my questions is  if i choose to finish installing maverick

my imac is running mountain lion and last night i downloaded maverick. in midst of installing it, it said a powerPC app microsoft word would not work so i canceled the install for the time being. my questions is  if i choose to finish installing maverick does that mean i will nevver be able to access word documents stored on my desktop? or do the word docs automatically convert to pages or what? i am so confused. would i be better off just sticking with mountain lion and send the maverick install to the trash? hoping someone will be able to answer my question though i am afraid the response is likely to be just stick with mountain lion so you can keep using word. i had been looking forward to maverick but it seems pretty drastic to not have access to microsoft word anymore by switching to maverick. hope someone has an answer so i can have the best of both worlds so to speak!

thanks for your response Csound1 on the peninsula ... if i go ahead and install maverick and then download LibreOffice or OpenOffice will i then be able to access old microsoft word saved documents on my deskstop through those two free alternatives? i am not that knowledgeable about these things so i am not sure if you are saying i will just be able to use libreoffice or openoffice for creating new documents or whether i can access the saved microsoft docs? are they transferred to OO or LO or what and if editing of the old word docs is needed can i do that through the OO and LO programs or apps (see i am not even sure if i am using the correct vocabulary!) hope you can answer this as quick as the first question, so i can decide to stick with mountain lion and trash the maverick install or proceed with maverick install and hoppe that my microsoft word docs are still accessible through OO or LO or adding to myquestion will pages on maverick be able to open the old word documents? thanks again!

  • Why is my Microsoft Word document not working correctly with Pages

I have created a new CV (Resume) in Microsoft Word on my work computer, it is using the latest version of Office. When I attempted to open the document in Pages on my home Mac, the formatting was slightly incorrect, but the main issue is it is missing two pages! The exact same document when opened in Word has three pages but in Pages, it only has one! I have had nothing but problems with Pages since I bought it! Can someone please help me get Pages to work correctly with my documents that are created in Word! Than you.

Pages does not allow a single cell in a table to span more than a page and there may be other problems that you also have not told us about.
Redo your CV using the excellent Pages templates, Word's templates are Uuuugly!
Being text based, with good typographical layout, those Pages templates should translate accurately back and forth from Pages to Word.
Frankly CVs don't require anything fancy. You could do an excellent, well laid out and very attractive CV in TextEdit which is no slouch in the word processing department.
    Peter
PS Start off by saving your Word CV to .rtf or .txt which will strip off most of the bad formatting. Then reopen it in Pages or drag in the snippets of text into a Pages CV template's placeholders to automatically format the text nicely.

  • I just downloaded OSx Lion and now MS word won't work. If I buy and install MS Office 2011 for Macs will my old documents open?

I just downloaded OSx Mountain Lion and now MS Word won't work. If I buy the current MS Office 2011 and install will I be able to read my old docs?

If it's because you're trying to use Office 2004 or earlier, yes. Note that programs such as OpenOffice and TextEdit will do this for free.
If you're using Office 2008, it's probably better to troubleshoot the problem instead of upgrading.

  • Microsoft word doesn't work with Yosemite. Please Help

Microsoft word doesn't work with Yosemite. Please Help

Office 2008 and 2011 work with Yosemite. If you had Office 2004 installed, then it will not work. If you had Office 2008 I would upgrade to Office 2011. In any event you should try completely uninstalling Office and then reinstalling it.

  • Microsoft word doesn't work

is microsoft supported in Lion? mine won't work...also can't send an invoice from Quickbooks...

If you have Word/Office 2004, that won't run on Lion. You have three options:
    1. Upgrade to Office 2008 or 2012
    2. Download the free Office suite Libreoffice
    3. Buy Apple's 'Pages' from the App store.
A fourth option would be to revert to Snow Leopard.

  • Is there a way to retain the track changes from a Microsoft Word document when working on a IPAD word processing App?

I am going on a work trip and want to be able to collaborate with my colleagues, almost all of whom will be using Microsoft Word on Microsoft Windows laptops and I want to draft and collaborate on documents.  The approach we always take to such collaboration is to use the track changes feature in Microsoft Word that shows changes and who made the changes. As best I could tell apples Pages software ignores the notations added by the track changes features and accepts all changes to the document making it difficult to see what changes were made and by whom.
I would appreciate any suggestions to address this challenge.

I noted from some similar topics that Pages seems to support track changes but that while it reflects deletions made in Microsoft Word, it does not appear to show them -- is there a way to fix this problem?

  • Word won't work!

I've just updated to Yosemite and can't open Word any more, getting the following message: You can’t open the application “Microsoft Word” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
I've searched for help and tried to download OpenOffice which also appears to be incompatible with Yosemite!
It appears I have to now use iPages but is there any way to change all documents to iPages or do I have to do it one by one?
I only upgraded to be able to use iCloud and I can't even do that as I'm now having problems with my Apple ID not being recognised!
Why are Apple making things so difficult to use these days!? We aren't all technically minded and I just want to be able to work without spending hours and hours trying to solve problems that shouldn't be happening in the first place. Very frustrated and disappointed with Apple right now!

You need Office for Mac 2011 update 14.4.5 for compatibility with Yosemite. Office for Mac 2004 (PPC) is non-operational since 2011 with the release of OS X 10.7.

  • My microsoft word won't open anymore in macbook pro with latest OSX

I had installed OSX latest version some months ago and there was no problem with opening all documents in words.
Just today I can open the word document but stalled and could not edit as there is a rolling icon (processing) appeared.
I did remove the word program by using my MacKeeper software remove installed program.
Then I insert the Microsoft Office 2011 original CD to reinstall the microsoft office again.
Before the crash and after the reinstallation both My Excel and Powerpoint are doing ok .. can
be opened and used to edit ppt and xls documents.
Before the word program removed .. when I opened the word document just appeared
"opening normal dot" message.  This had never happened before the stalled opened
    word document.
I did also restart the macbook pro (version 2011 manufacturing date) but now my word
even can not be opened with error reporting message as follows:

what am I supposed to do to ? I try to googling the topic but can not find the exact similar incident in google search
results. Is this some kind of a virus attack ? Does anyone can recommend any solutions that work?
Thankyou so much for your sharing and suggestions.
    Leks

I am running Word for Mac v 14.2.0 quite happily on my iMac 27" running Maverick 10.9.4.
Possibly it is due to issues with your Retina screen? The obvious first step is to update Word to the latest version.
Virus attacks are not the first guess on a Mac. I have never ever had one nor even been able to locate any malware for well over a decade. Word can harbour Macro viruses but I thought that the Mac version of Word didn't do macros.
Either way this is not the place to get your answers. Pages is not Word. Use Microsft's support forums for their software.

  • Microsoft Word does not work

My Microsoft Word stopped working a few months ago but I don't know why. Can someone please help me? When I open the application, it shows for half a second in my dock and then disappears immediately after.

I suppose for the last month you could have researched your issue on the Microsoft support web area here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/support.aspx
and in particular for Word here:

  • Home tab A-Z in Microsoft word document. doesnt work

I am trying to arrange my references alphabetically using the home tab A-Z in Microsoft word document. But it didn't work, and i got a pop up window stating that '' Word cannot sort field in the selection. Any advices?

    Hi,
How do you try to sort your references? Do you select the complete set of references and then click AZ? If so Word is telling you it needs a single set of words to select on. It will be hard to sort references if they exists out of multiple words and lines.
Try adding your references to a table and set the table lines to 'no border'. In that case word can look for the first word of the first row of the table and sort in that.
