Mid-2010 battery dead after 629 cycles?!?
Hi,
My mid-2010 Macbook Pro 15" battery is seemingly dead after only 629 cycles. It says that the condition is "replace now" and the green indicator lights flash when I press the button on the side. It was working fine, and then I didn't use the computer for a little while, and now the battery doesn't charge and it has to be plugged in.
I'm hesitant to think the battery has just failed, because like I mentioned, there are only 629 cycles on it, and it was working prefectly before, and it seems very sudden.
Any help/thoughts/suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks!
Make an appointment at the genius bar. Have you fully discharged and recharge fully over the battery's 2 yr life? This is good to do a few times a year.

MacBook Pro Mid 2010 Battery Capacity
I've read a few threads about this, mostly about battery capacity rapidly dropping after an install of ML. I installed ML when it first came out, and just noticed the drastic decrease in battery life about 3 weeks ago. My capacity could have potentially been dropping since I installed ML (and I just now noticed it), or it may have just started a couple weeks ago when I noticed. I'm not sure.
Either way, my MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) now has a battery life of less than an hour, even with extremely light processor load. I contacted Apple about this, and the tech said that the battery was rated for 1000 cycles. I'm currently at 220, and my battery capacity is a pathetic 30%. He said that since I wasn't under warranty, there was nothing they could do besides replace the battery - which I really want to avoid since I'm a broke college student.
Is there anything I can do here? I understand that I'm not under warranty anymore, and this wouldn't be a problem if my battery was degrading normally. However, getting 1/5th of the recommended battery life is pretty sad. I've read that doing a clean install of Mountain Lion/Lion might help. Is there a way I can do this without having to back up all my files? I don't have an external hard drive or anything.
It seems this is a common topic in these forums. Any help or links to solutions would be great. If this is answered in a similar topic, I'll gladly delete.

IMac Mid 2010 kernel panic after wake up from sleep mode
Hello.
One month ago starting my iMac Mid 2010 occasionally goes to kernel panic. When I click on mouse or press any key, system starting up, but very very slowly, (time on logon screen stay same without refresh) and after few minutes (from 1 - 10 minutes) kernel panic message is appear on screen. I have Mac OS 10.7.5 version installed.
Is there any tool to debug what is wrong. Windows OS has WinDebuger to detaily look inside to core dump and analyze it and in my experience almost allways is possible to detect root of problem.
First of all i was try HW diagnostic from DVD, succesfully passed. Then I run Permission Repair procedure, there were many folders and files with different ACL as system expected.
It is possible that graphic card driver is wrong or has bug from my point of laic view.
I have minimum application with kext installed into system:
VMware fusion
NTFS-3g ( long time same version )
There is part of long kernel panic message:

Battery Health after 13 cycles?
I recently downloaded istate pro to check my battery and to my suprise my battery health is currently at 96% after 13 cycles. Yesterday I calibrated the battery and it was at 98% health. Could be battery by obsolete? And I just got my mbp 1 week ago.
Your battery is fine. Over time the battery health continues to decline until the battery needs to be replaced.

Mac Pro Mid 2010 keeps restarting after installing OSX Mavericks
Hello,
my Mac Pro Mid 2010 started quitting and restarting after installing the Mavericks OSX. I was thinking about wiping out the drive and reinstalling OS X Mountain Lion but thought I should see if anyone else is experiencing these issues before going that route.
It just intermittently restarts and it tries to restart multiple times before it will actually start up again. It's not issuing a crash report. It just quits out and restarts. It started doing this just at initial startup. It now will quit and restart at any given time and it will take multiple times attempting to start before it actually starts up. I've even had to shut it down because it would going through that startup sequence without starting. No perceivable pattern as to why this is occurring. No specific programs that it occurs in. The only thing I know for certain is that it started happening after installing Mavericks OSX – OSX Mountain Lion was fine. I also made sure to unistall Mountain Lion before installing Mavericks with those potential issues of trying to install one operating system over another. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Specs for Mac Pro Mid 2010:

- 14 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC
- ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
- OS X 10.9.2Hello Linc,
I followed your instructions. I have information for the BOOT_TIME and for SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS sections. I've included all within one post with heading separators between the two sections. I wasn't sure if you needed this posted as two separate posts or not. If this isn't correct, please let me know and I'll do again. Hopefully I didn't pull too much content for the BOOT_TIME section. I was trying to search for enough diverse content that would clearly represent what might be occurring. It was also challenging to choose content for the BOOT_TIME section though because there was no time-stamped content close to the time of BOOT_TIME time stamp. The last time I restarted my system was hours before I attempted your exercise. And, I haven't experienced "crashing" more than it just automatically restarts in the middle of things. I wonder if that's why there were no .crash reports? There was only a list of .panic reports so that's what I provided. Thanks for your help Linc.

10.4.7: powerbook battery dead after update
Just updated from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 on my 12.1" PB G4 using the automatic Software Update application and my battery is dead. I tried resetting the PMU but no luck. The battery worked fine yesterday but I can't power-up today. The charging light integrated in the plug remains green but the battery strength only shows 1 rapidly blinking green led.
Coincidence? Anyone else have power/battery problems after this update?
1 GhZ powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6)No problem with my 12" G4 or 17" G4 updating to 10.4.7.
Battery life remains the same as before, machines work on mains power and on battery power.
Note that before updating I logged out, to ensure that no applications were running and all other discs and devices were 'unmounted'; then I logged in again and "Repaired Permisions", using Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility; then did a Restart, and held down Apple+S to start in "Single User" mode, and ran "fsck" to check that all was OK with the hard disc; then rebooted and ran "Permissions Repair" again ..just to be prudent and to be satisfied that the machine was all in good order before applying the system software update.
I'll report back later and tell you if all went well with my Mac mini and G5 quad, but I've never had any problems with any OS update yet - all the way from 10.1 (..and System 8 and System 9 before that..)
Maybe I'm just extra careful.
P.S: Maybe you could try resetting your Power Management Unit ..but note that you'll need to reset your time and date afterwards, otherwise any files you create after that reset will have the wrong time and date, and may not appear correctly in Spotlight searches, amongst other things. -
MPB mid-2010 very slow after Yosemite upgrade from Snow Leopard
I updated my MPP (mid-2010) from Snow Leopard to Yosemite some weeks back. It is painfully slow since, particularly when Mail is open. I attach the etrecheck output below, but would really appreciate any help in recovering what was not-so-long-ago a very useful machine.
EtreCheck version: 2.1.5 (108)

Jan 3, 2015, 03:45:32 PM /LiYour Mac has been considerably altered from its factory configuration. Given certain modifications, some of which are described below, it is not reasonable to expect it to operate properly.
1. Back up your Mac. Your report indicates the last backup was performed a month ago. No more backups can be created because the backup volume's capacity is insufficient.
2. Uninstall any McAfee products. Your Mac cannot operate properly with it installed.
One or both of these removal instructions may be applicable.
How to install or uninstall McAfee Internet Security for Mac
How to uninstall and reinstall McAfee Agent 4.x on Macintosh computers
3. Your Mac has been affected by MacPaw "CleanMyMac". Uninstall it, but beware its uninstallation instructions are not completely effective. Depending on exactly what you used it to do, a complete erasure and reconfiguration may be required.
4. Update OS X. Open the App Store and install all Apple recommended updates.
5. If you require a VPN I recommend OS X's native VPN, not Cisco's flawed implementation of it.
6. If you elect to use Adobe Flash Player you must keep it maintained. The version installed is outdated.
7. If you elect to use Google's products you must accept the detrimental effects they will have on a Mac's performance.
8. Adware is installed and will interfere with Internet browsing. For an explanation or how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended solution read How to install adware. -
I updated my operating system on MBP (mid 2010) to Mountain Lion 10.8.3. I am starting to regret it! It takes forever to boot up and shut down, it keeps crashing every time my husband tries to go on his work email system (he's about to chuck my MBP out the window!) and also does it to me randomly. The MBP runs very SLOW.
What's up? Do I need to bring to Genius Bar or can it be resolved here?
Thanks!Hi - I have the smae problem. Suddenly crashes - MBP 15, new HD with Mountain Lion.
here is the report:

Macbook pro 17" (mid 2010) battery replacement
Hi guys,
Just a first time asking question on this forum looking for some answers.
I had my MBP since new (bought in 2010 - still under applecare) and had my battery replaced first time just 4 days ago.
the test of the HW in Genius bar clearly showed the battery's gone and I knew it for past 6 months or even more. It was still holding power for about an hour (sometimes showing 2-3h), but compare to new one, when I actually got the MBP it was nothing. It actually lasted for 4-5 hours easily maybe even longer and the status was actually showing it was going to last over 7 hours, sometimes even showed 10 hours, which was surprising.
Now, after the replacement, and I believe I got brand new genuine battery, it shows no more than 4 hours but lasts for maybe 2 hours.
Also the health battery indicator is jumping up and down (it was 100% which is expected, but after two charges it showed 98%, then 99% and now it's back to 100%)
So my question would be, how come the new battery is only lasting for 2h not showing anything more than 4h which happened only twice anyway. Normally it show just something over 3 hours but usually below 3 hours and lasts only around 2h.
Can anyone explain or point me to something.
Should I take it back to Genius bar and get another battery or ... ???
Thank youCALL AppleCare and tell them exactly what you stated in your post.

Battery Capacity after 3 cycles
Hi all,
I have a late 2013 rmbp. I've been reading up a lot on how to best treat the built in battery to maximize battery life. This laptop is only 1 week old and I've discharged once to about 40% and used the unit on batter a second time to about 50%. I'm now planning on using it on the power adapter mode when at my desk and using it on battery mode when going mobile. My question is though is that according to my coconut battery app, I'm already only at 97% max capacity! Is this normal? This battery has only been through 3 cycles of charging.
The max charge went from 6330mAh to 6153mAh in the 1 week I've owned this computer. Since I'm new to the macbook world, I was wondering if this is normal and was hoping someone could give me some insight to how fast the Max Charge capacity drops over time in relation to the Design Capacity. I'm still within my return period if I need to return this computer :/
For reference, my battery was manufactured 4/24/2014.
many thanks!Read: https://www.apple.com/batteries/

It's best not to concern yourself with this degree of detail. Over a long period of time, its maximum charge capacity will decrease. Over a shorter period of time its maximum charge capacity may decrease or increase. One week and three charge cycles is not enough to draw any conclusions about anything. Typically, the maximum capacity percentage will settle to a value in the mid - 90s and will stay there for a long time.
Your MacBook Pro's battery is the product of decades of research and is going to last for years, perhaps for as long as you own your Mac, or want to own it before it eventually becomes functionally obsolete.
All batteries are wear items that will eventually need to be replaced. Budget 50¢ a week for battery depreciation and you will have more than enough saved to replace it when the time comes.
I'm now planning on using it on the power adapter mode when at my desk and using it on battery mode when going mobile.
That's a fine strategy. Follow Apple's usage recommendations, but don't obsess over such minutia. On the other hand if you are seeking to indulge your paranoia concerning over- or under- charging your Mac, the proper methods by which you must obsess about its incessant need for proper care and pampering, and to hear admonishments about the a parade of horribles that will result in your failure to acquiesce to superstition and myth, your needs will be met in by a number of charlatans in a variety of fonts and garish colors. You will believe them because they will validate what you have already decided to be true. -

Macbook pro 13inch mid 2010 battery problem
Hello. I am a Mac user from Greece. Recently i noticed the Service Battery alert at the battery status bar. I didnt complete 1000cycles. What can i do? Is there any solution except replacing my battery?

No. Use it until the battery life is no longer convenient for you and then purchase a new battery. -
Mac Mini Mid 2010 Too Hot after 10.7 Lion
I never measured the temp on the mini using 10.6, because it never got hot to the touch.
Now with Lion it is very hot to the touch (the top cover), so I decided to install a temp monitor and these are the readings:
CPU: 58 - 60c
CPU Heatsink: 56c
Airport Card: 48c
Ambient: 37c
HD Bay: 40c
Mem Bank A1: 56c
Mem Controller: 48c
North Bridge 50c
I leave this mac mini always on, and I am afraid the temp is too hot. Using 10.6 I never needed to worry about temp, it never got hot (well it did at first with the screen saver, but once I turned it off it worked fine).
Are these readings normal?
Thanks in advanced.

Of course Not!
My MBP have the same problem with U.
And I have some more problems in Facetime.
Apple should fix those problems soon!!!!
I can't even type on my mac, 'cause keyboard is too hot!
I don't understand, you are kidding, right?
At least for me this is a real problem. Even when the computer is not processing anything it gets hot. I have to place an external fan to cool it down. I didn't have this problem when the same computer was running SL.
Thanks anyway for the reply. -
I'm trying to replace the battery on my mid 2010 13-inch Macbook. I'm not sure what kind of battery I need to get, and can't seem to find any indication in "System Information". It's a "MacBook7,1" with Intel Core 2 Duo and Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz. I found this battery on amazon: "Apple MacBook Pro 13 Inch Mid 2010 Battery 60Wh, 5500mAh". Will it work? Do I need to get one with a particular power capacity, or anything like that?
I'm also wondering how quickly I need to get the problem fixed. My computer stopped working yesterday unless plugged into a power source. I don't really want to send it away to get it fixed, as I have a lot of work I need to do on it over the course of the next week. If I buy a battery online, wait for it to arrive, and install it (a process that will probably take at least 4-5 days), will I be leaving it too long? Or is it OK to continue just running my computer off the mains for now?
Thanks!PS: here's some other info I found, after my earlier post timed-out:
See how a determined DIY user with some skills & abilities could dissect & replace battery:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Unibody+Model+A1342+Battery+Replacement/166 7
Example of what new replacement battery looks like, for your Mac; w/ part number:

Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
Visit an Apple Retail Store
An Apple Store or Authorized Apple service provider could replace the battery
for the cost of the part, and a fee for the tech time. This may vary by location.
Hopefully this helps. The part is not considered 'user replaceable' but it is possible.
Good luck & happy computing! -
Which battery to order for Macbook pro 13" mid 2010
I have a macbook pro 13" mid 2010. I need to know which battery to order from online store to replace my old one. It is very confusing as there is many models of batteries to chose from the online store.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The batteries available in the Apple Online Store are for Late 2008 and older MacBooks Pro, which include removable batteries.
In your case, your MacBook has got an integrated battery which is not designed to replace yourself, so you should take the MacBook to an Apple Retail Store and get your battery replaced for $129.
If you want to replace it yourself, these are the steps > http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2010+Battery+Replace ment/4300/1 You can also get the battery for your MacBook in that website
