Mid-2011 imac and original apogee duet. . .no likey each other?

So I recently got a mid-2011 Imac with Mountain Lion.   Years ago I got an Apogee duet, a mac-specific firewire (400)-based audio interface for audio recording.    I'd been using it with my 2008 imac just fine.  When I hooked it up to this new one (today was the first time), I discovered that at reasonable input recording levels, I was getting some very nasty static-y/interference sounding mess.   It's got to be the imac/apogee combo because I had all the audio stuff turned off and unplugged. I was simply monitoring the input signal via Adobe Audition.     If you think it was noisy BECAUSE nothing was plugged in, it was just as noisy with a Sennheiser G2 wireless lav hooked up.      I have tried going directly from the duet to the computer with a firewire 400 to 800 cable.  I have the newest update for the Apogee/Maestro software for Mountain Lion.    Anyone have experience with this stuff?  Thanks.

Hello,
Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

i have a 27in mid 2011 iMac and i have been given a 2006 mac mini i have no screen to see whats going on on the mini and there is no os onboard how do i get OS X on to the mini so i can get to use this with a tv with hdmi i have the mini dvi to vga connector and a vga to hdmi lead into a samsung 32in led tv, tv keeps saying not connected???

    - You said "Apple dvi to via converter with a via to hdmi cable . What is a "via"? I think you mean VGA.
Just what VGA to HDMI cable to you have?  VGA is analogue while HDMI is digital. The Mini DVi out is both analogue and digital (DVI-AD). You would need a converter to convert the analogue VGA to digital.
    - Yes, when you boot up you should get a chime if the Mac is functional. The chime The sound indicates that diagnostic tests run immediately at startup have found no hardware or fundamental software problems.[1]

Thus it appears the Mini also has a hardware problem.

    Hi Fid
Your mac is fine but you need OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or newer and your profile says you have OS X 10.7.5 Lion.  You need to get ML as a purchase from the app store as mirror is a new feature with that OS.
The alternative is a third party app called airparrot.

You can leave the existing RAM in their current slots and add compatible modules in the empty slots. For best performance, add two of teh same size. Our 2010 iMac 21" shipped with 4GB RAM---two 2GB modules in two of the four slots. I added two 2GB modules to the empty slots and now have 8 GB RAM.
Be sure to order RAM from a trusted Mac-savvy RAM vendor. Some vendors thing a Mac is a hamburger. For over a decade I've bought all our Mac RAM (and we have 18 Macs in teh family!) from one vendor:

Crucial.com is also a trusted vendor.

    Hallo,
I use an Akai usb turntable with the Audacity sw delivered with it. To monitor during recording I also use the LineIn utility (all this on a Macbook Pro with Mavericks).
It works fine, only the input volume of the usb audio port cannot be adjusted (at least I did not yet discover how to do it) and the volume of the music is lower than other music imported into iTunes from CD or iTunes store, but still acceptable.

  • My iMac and iPod aren't speaking to each other...

I'm hoping someone can help me with this problem--I haven't seen it yet on the archives.
After I updated the latest software for iTunes (which ran with no problems), my Mini suddenly no longer played or displayed any of my downloaded songs--the ones I'd UPloaded from my CDs were there, but none of those bought on iTunes, even though they were still stored in my iTunes on the computer. I downloaded the latest updater for my Mini (1.4.1, I believe), thinking that might help--but didn't notice till too late that it required Mac OX 10.3 or higher (I'm only at 10.2) to run. Unfortunately, I got so frustrated waiting for the darn thing to update that I wound up disconnecting it without waiting for the "OK to disconnect" signal, and then, after a couple more unsuccessful tries, wound up Restoring it altogether, thinking I would try to delete the latest updater and simply reload my songs using the updater compatible with my OS. Now, my computer won't even recognize the Mini when it's plugged in, and I'm afraid to f* things up even worse without asking for help, so...HEELLLLLLPPP!!!
    Thanks--

is there a way to run a external ssd with my mid 2011 iMac hdd in a raid configuration and basically have a fusion drive

A Fusion Drive is not a RAID; it's a CoreStorage logical volume group. While it's technically possible to do as you suggest, there would be little or no benefit from it.

  • PC Games and peripherals on Windows 7 on Lion on mid-2011 iMac. Possible?

Sorry for the long marquee, but I want to get anecdotal-experience answers on this convoluted subject before I waste a couple months of my fairly-rapidly-closing life --carpe diem. all y'all -- on something that's doomed from the very start.
For reasons I can't quite fathom (relative installed population, maybe), there are very few racing sims -- none, as far as I'm concerned -- for the Mac. That's most def not true for the PC -- I've been a Mac-only user since 1989, but the PC has always been -- when working -- a pretty good gaming platform (ALL it's good for AFAIC), with tons of titles, and the ability to accomodate multi, MULTI-axis controllers, like force-feedback steering wheels with gas, brake, and clutch pedals, and gearshift. I know of nothing like that for the Mac, even if there were racing sims that would run on a Mac.
So here's what I need to know: if I had a Boot Camp partition on my home drive (Macintosh HD), with a 32-bit or 64-bit (full version) of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, or Windows 7 Ultimate (necessary for my Mid-2011 27" iMac running Lion or above) installed on that partition, could I then install PC racing sims on that Boot Camp Windows 7-whatever Platform, and be able to use multi-axis controllers, like a Thrustmaster wheel, pedal, and shifter set?
Please, if anyone has been able to do this, by whatever means, on a mid-2011 iMac running OS X 10.7.x or above, I'd be eternally grateful if you could share your experience.
    Thanks!
    Bart

Seeing as how there are about 117 different versions of 64-bit Windows 7 out there, is there any particular version that is more advantageous -- in the case of Microsoft products, that means less bug-ridden -- for use on Boot Camp? I've seen reasonably priced ($66) versions like this:
"Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit FULL - BRANDED"
But then the description consists of this mangled English:
"This product will be branded HP, Dell, etc. but will do a FULL install on any brand computer and includes a DVD and COA. This is only unique to branded? [sic -- BB] OEM Windows products and not to non branded OEM Windows products. If you are the person people always seem to ask for help when their computer isnt right you should be fine with this. If you are not that kind of user you may want to stick to a non branded oem. Once again this only applies to Mac users [really sic -- BB]."
This is the only part of the description on this product page that even mentions "Mac users," and I'm left wondering if this "FULL - BRANDED" 64-bit version of Windows 7 will work OK on a Boot Camp partition on an OS X 10.7.x -- 10.8.x iMac.
Knowing all too well what a rat's-nest Windows has been since it was first foisted upon an unsuspecting public in 1985, with security problems that, after nearly 30 years, have still not been addressed, I want a 64-bit version of Win 7 that's going to give me the least amount of grief on my Boot Camp partition.
As this thread seems to be pretty much a dead letter, as many discussion threads become after an answer is provided, should I create a new question titled:
"Which 64-bit version of Windows 7 will work best on a Boot Camp partition on an OS X 10.7.x -- 10.8.x iMac?"
    Thanks again!

Ok, sounds like the safe mode boot worked... You probably don't want to always be in safe mode though (some reduced functionality) so does it do a normal boot now? If not, you should then reboot into safe mode and run Disk Utility. Then select Macintosh HD on the left hand side, and click the Verify Disk button. If needed, it will ask you to Repair Disk. If there are errors found, Repair Disk again until there are none. Then try another normal boot and reply with result, wether good or bad.

  • HT1522 I have a mid 2011 iMac running Lion, and the remote seems not to work at all!

Have been trying to pair my Apple Remote with my mid 2011 imac.
Nothing doing, although if I go and try same remote with an older macbook, it works fine.Battery all fine too, have been checking via digital camera. Something on my iMac is preventing this remote form being seen (and yes I have disabled ir receiving on the laptom after testing it)
    any ideas?
    thanks for your time!!

  • Unable to install Yosemite on mid 2011 iMac 27"

OK, so I have tried to install Yosemite on this mid 2011 iMac for two days now and I get the exact same error message every time:
An error occured when extracting files from the archive AdditionalSpeechVoices.pkg. Abort the installation and reboot.
I have formatted the harddrive, reinstalled the original OS using the Restore via Internet option (the Mac works perfectly with Mac OS X 10.7.X) and then I try to upgrade to Yosemite via App Store and the error is back.
Any ideas regarding what might cause this problem?
    TIA

  • How do I update firmware for mid 2011 iMac running Yosemite?

I tried the link in the Apple support pages, but it told me I need Lion to install it. I bought the computer used. It came with Mavericks and I updated to Yosemite. I don't have Lion or any way (or desire to) install it.

There is no update for the mid-2011 iMac firmware that will fix the fans running at high speed.
Only the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) Apple hard drives had the proprietary firmware designed to properly monitor the hard drive temperature.
So you have several possible solutions:
    1. If the computer was sold to you with a warranty, rather than "AS IS", my first choice would be to force the seller to restore the computer to the condition it was represented to be in when you purchased it, with an OEM Apple 500GB drive that does not cause the fan problem. If they cannot or will not correct the problem, make them take it back and refund your money. Consumer advocates such as the Better Business Bureau can help you prepare a formal complaint against the seller, and perhaps lead to a successful resolution through arbitration, without hiring an attorney and filing a lawsuit.
    2. If you bought the computer "AS IS", you'll have to attempt to repair the problem yourself:
    A) Locate an exact replacement for the original OEM Apple hard drive with the proper firmware and install it on your own;
    B) Purchase a 'compatibility kit'. OtherWorldComputing www.macsales.com reverse-engineered a solution to the problem and sells a short cable with an external temperature sensor for the hard drive that can be used successfully with non-OEM drives. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DIDIMACHDD11/
They also sell the sensor cable with a toolkit that can be used to disassemble and install the cable. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DIYIMACHDD11/
    C) Try the fan control program mentioned in earlier replies.

I ended up extracting the new vob within MPEG Streamclip, which gave me an m2v and an aiff audio. I multiplexed those two back together in FFMpegX which gave me a complete VIDEO_TS folder with BUP and IFO files I needed.
