Mid-2013 13" Graphical Issues
Just got the newest Air in the mail today. I've noticed a few times that running more graphically intense applications, such as Photoshop CS6, cause visual artifacts. Black bars, jitters, and pixelization have occured for brief moments when manipulating layers that had not occured on my previous MacBook. What's the deal with this? I'm pretty sure it's nothing I've done and might just be a screwy kext…

XPS 12 (9Q33, Mid 2013) Laptop Screen Issue
The issue started occurring just few weeks before the end of warranty. My laptop stopped detecting the the internal screen in Windows. When booted to Windows with no other screen connected, the internal screen is blank. If the external screen is connected during booting, internal screen is enabled but with settings like resolution taken from the external screen causing everything to be shifted to left and the external screen is blank. In fact it seems that Windows thinks the external screen is internal as touches on internal screen are still working. BIOS, Windows recovery, Windows booting are correctly displayed on the internal screen - the problem is with Windows logon screen and further. Also when connected to the external screen, Windows doesn't show internal screen in the dropdown in the Screen Resolution menu. When using Ubuntu, the OS correctly recognises and works with internal or both screens. I tried reinstalling vanilla windows, next used Dell Recovery to reset to the initial state and nothing helped - this is why I think this isn't Windows issue but hardware issue that affects Windows. I followed some advices from the Dell support portal and tried to install the firmware update (XK8DT) but got "AuxUpdate MFC Application has stopped working" error and couldn't proceed. Installed all drivers including the BIOS update from the Dell website - nothing helped. Run the diagnostics from F12 menu - they all passed reporting no problems. Restored BIOS defaults - no difference. Run Online Helpdesk tests, no problems detected.
The biggest problem is that I thought the problem is with Windows initially and waited to reinstall it due to being busy at work and not having time to back up all my files and was very disappointed to realise it is not a software issue 3 weeks after my warranty ended.
Here are two videos I recorded to demonstrate the problem:
cs_setInnerHtml('video_ccae9f5a-be4c-402a-82d6-a4c87d2c76a3','');
cs_setInnerHtml('video_cdcdd9d0-3097-4aa1-8d67-7d16970c70cb','');Since I haven't got any response I will recap the issue:
When I boot the laptop with external screen disconnected:
i can see the BIOS and the Windows loading screen on the internal screen (and Windows recovery etc).
when Windows is loaded i can't see the logon screen or home screen but a blank screen only.
when i connect external screen after Windows is loaded, i don't see anything on the internal and external screen.
When I boot the laptop with external screen connected:
when I boot and the lid is closed, Windows works perfectly fine on the external screen. When I open the lid, the internal screen is still blank, touch works though.
when i boot and the lid is open, Windows is displayed on the internal screen and the external screen is blank. The displayed home screen is broken on the internal screen since it uses the settings like resolution from the external screen, since the external screen's resolution is higher.
In both boot scenarios, when the external screen is connected, the Windows screen properties dialog doesn't show the internal screen, only external.
I reinstalled windows from the recovery partition but it didn't solve the problem.
I run diagnostics from the Dell Support website it all passed.
I updated all drivers including BIOS it didn't help.
I run BIOS diagnostics, they all pass as on this video:
cs_setInnerHtml('video_cf0d6ef7-1ca1-4fe1-8ca1-7551bf272166','');
I don't know what to do, this happened when warranty was still valid, i followed different suggestions from the support page and thought it is a software issue. Didn't reinstall Windows as i had couple of projects behind the schedule and didn't have time to back everything up correctly. After i did reinstall and found that this isn't a software issue, the warranty was already expired by two weeks. -
Macbook retina late 2013 display/graphics issues.
Am I going crazy?!
When I look at my screen, every now and then my eye gets distracted by what I can only describe as wobble. It is like images are moving ever, ever so slightly. I'm talking infinitessimaly small amounts. I convince myself I am imagining it, then I notice it again, as if letters warp. It is so minor I am not even sure I know what I am seeing, but it feels like hard work on my eyes to use the screen, a feeling I don't get from using my iphone or ipad. But I don't know how I could show it to someone, it's not like there is something definitively there?! The most I notice it is on the vice website. The grey letters used for VICE TODAY, and the black letters used for the article titles often seem weird. As if the very, very edges of the letters are not quite fixed in position, fuzzy almost. Is there anyway to test for weird things like this?
Also, it judders as I scroll pages, this thing has 16GB of ram!? My RM Nimbus could do better!
Does anyone know what I mean, or am I simply going crazy?Additionally, you can run the Apple Diagnostics test from home, though it would not be as reliable as Apple's in house diagnostics in detecting an issue:

New Mid-2013 Macbook Air Battery Health issues
Hi,
I bought a new Macbook Air 13" 128GB 4GB RAM for 2weeks. I discovered that the battery went much fast than I thought. Now after 2weeks, the battery heath is decreased to 97% and cycles 21. And a fully-charged battery last only 7-8hours. Besides, the back of it come always too hot. What should I do to fix this issue? Thank you!!

Mid 2013 Macbook Air serious wifi issues
Okay, so I am basically turning to these forums because I am out of options at this point and am seriously considering selling my Macbook Air. I have a mid-2013 Mabook Air. My Macbook has been an incredibly dependable and efficient laptop until around late August time of 2014. I started having minor wifi connectivity issues (before Yosemite was even out). The problems started with random wifi dropouts, I would get an "icmp timeout" error. I tried dozens upon dozens of fixes for it, from resetting preferences and configurations in the Mac terminal before bootup, deleting the keychain, preferences, I even bought a new freaking wireless router and modem for over $300 bucks. My problems only got WORSE.
My problems still persisted. I moved on to the Yosemite install. Now this past month or two, my Macbook in terms of wifi has become utterly useless. The other night I tried playing my Macbook and it would just constantly disconnect from the wifi. Today I thought I would try reinstalling the operating system and wiping the hard drive. I am in a brand new installation of Yosemite. Now I can't connect to my router at all, I just get a "connection timeout" error" when trying to connect.
Let me say I am an IT professional now and I have tried EVERYTHING in my knowledge of computers to fix the connection problems on this ridiculous laptop. I scoured these forums for hours, tried tons of solutions and suggestions on the web. Below is a complete list:
1) changed system settings and files, basically all the stupid things, the keychain, I've changed settings in terminal, I've reset the cache, I even reinstalled Yosemite entirely while wiping the hard drive, I thought a fresh OSX install would fix any potential system file errors or corrupted areas, guess I was wrong
2) The macbook is not near any other wireless devices and is only 15 feet away from the router
3) I've tried multiple wifi channels and spectrums on my router and even bought a new router and modem with updated firmware which did not fix the problem
4) Tried turning bluetooth off, didn't do crap
5) Nothing else on my network has problems on wifi, and I can turn everything else off and this Macbook will still NOT connect to the wifi
<Edited by Host>I have seen lots of issues on Yosemite with Wifi (and have been having issues myself), but yours seem different. It is a pretty new computer, have you tried taking it in under Applecare (if you live somewhere this is convenient)? Maybe you just got a defective wifi card. I won't defend Apple over this wifi mess, because it really is terrible, but your issue seems not the same as the ones I've read about while researching how to fix mine (unsucessfully....).

Graphic issues in Word 2010 and 2013
The problem is it reformats your original image to fall within this shape below. Everything within that triangle is white and your original image only shows through the remaining part of the oval. I have attached a Word document with a few examples. It cuts
off part of the logo, signatures, etc.
So far, we have found this occurring in 2 situations:
1. .docx is generated in third party application. We open this in Word 2003 and save as .doc. Then if that .doc is then opened by someone else using Word 2010 or 2013, it has this issue.
2. The other situation was just a .doc created (outside of the third party application) that is used as a VBA component. If they open that .doc in Word 2013 it has this issue but other .doc files are fine.
One other note, we can open these files in Word 2003 and 2007 and the images look fine. It only happens when opening in Word 2010 or 2013.
Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions? I have tested both .tif & .jpg to see if the original image format made a difference and it doesn’t appear to. Unfortunately, it’s impacting tens of thousands of Word docs stored in archive.
I don't see where I could upload a file, but I do have example documents.
Thanks,
DawnHi Dawn:
After testing from myside, I found if you
change the picture format, it will fix the display issue. You can
manually changing the format of the Graphic: select the graphic->select format tab on the Ribbon->change to any format you want. You can also
use VBA code to change the format of the picture, for detailed information you can refer to
This article.
Below are some findings for your reference.
I checked the documents you sent to me, as the issue occurred when if the file saved as .docx or opened with word 2010/2013, so I zipped the file and compared the xml files, I found something
might be the cause of this issue.
The pictures in media folder were all fine no missing parts even for those ones displayed wrongly in Word.
I compared the document.xml file under ….\Graphic issue\Issue.docx\word(where I stored the zip file), I found the documents.xml of issue.docx file has section called <a:custGeom>………
</a:custGeom>, which contains data like below, maybe it’s inherited from the design tool, somehow, change formatting can get rid of the custGeom. So we suggest you change the format of
the picture.

Graphics issues with latest updates on mbp mid 2010
ive been experiencing graphics issues recently while playing games on steam (team fortress 2, Counter strike source, the lot). i notice its affecting starcraft 2 as well. they used to run perfectly fine a few days ago. and im pretty sure i haven't dropped it or anything between then and now. ive noticed that some people with mbp early 2011 models are experiencing the same problems. anyone got any info on this or experiencing the same problems?
10.8 Mountain Lion is not the same as previous software.
Contact the folks who sold you that adapter and see if there are any software updates for it. -
Mid-2013 Macbook Air drains battery at hibernate
I recently got a new Macbook Air:
MBA 13-inch, Mid 2013
Processor 1.7 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 5000 1024 MB
Software OS X 10.8.4 (12E3067)
The issue I'm running into is essentially that I close the lid (unplugged from power and anything else) and overnight the entire battery drains. When looking into the system log, I noticed that the sleep seems to run OK but it's when it tries to hibernate that the issue comes up. It looks to me like it tries to hibernate and runs into an error, tries again, run into an erro, tries again, etc.

This all seems to loop until the battery drains completely. Any Thoughts?I have the exact same problem. I just installed Mavericks three days ago and I'm having battery drain when the lid is closed.
Does anybody have a solution for this problem ?

Mid-2013 Macbook Air Battery Life has become awful-Not Mavericks related
I have a Mid-2013 Macbook Air that I bought in July. i5, 1.3 GHz, 8GB RAM, 500 GB SSD. I honestly thought that my horrible battery life was due to the recent upgrade to Mavericks (many MBAir users are having problems with 10.9), so I downgraded to 10.8.5 this AM. With my backlit keyboard off and the screen at a mid-level of brightness, I am barely getting 2hrs of battery life. Before I go make an appointment with the Apple Genius, I was wondering whether anyone has any suggestions. I saw other threads on this issue, but none of them seem to really help. Below is the EtreCheck file (there seems to be a lot of Symantec traffic, but I am not sure that is the cause). Also, I am also running "hidden" so I wonder if the constant location services are draining the battery. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

After Mavericks install, your "time remaining" WILL BE INACCURATE until you do a SMC reset in many case
SMC reset
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
There is a HUGE distinction here about someone getting less batt. life in actuality .......or are they just reading the "time remaining" and using that as a true indicator which is certainly is not.
Ive seen 3 notebooks after SMC reset jump 4+ hours in "time remaining" and slowly climb after 3+ full charge cycles.
Until things settle down, nobody should trust what the 'time remaining' says. -
How come my Macbook Air 11inch mid 2013 is running very slow?
I recently bought it new, then couple months later, the fan would play very loudly, and everything went slow and laggy. I checked activity monitor and it says kernel_task is taking up a lot. Please let me know if there are any ways to make my macbook run back to normal, thank you!

Nov 7, 2014, 10:51:50 PM Kernel_2014-11-07-225150_owner1s-iMac-2.panic [Details]The kernel is using excessive processor cycles. Below are some possible causes for the condition.
Throttling
When it gets high temperature readings from the hardware, or low voltage readings from the battery of a MacBook, the kernel may try to compensate by interrupting the processor(s) to slow them down and reduce power consumption. This condition can be due to:
☞ a buildup of dust on the logic board
☞ high ambient temperature
☞ a worn-out or faulty battery in a portable
☞ the malfunction of a cooling fan, a temperature sensor, a voltage sensor, or some other internal component
Note that if the problem is caused by a sensor, there may be no actual overheating or undervoltage.
If the computer is portable, test with and without the AC adapter connected. If kernel_task hogs the processor only on AC power, charging is causing the machine to heat up. That behavior may be normal for some models. CPU usage should drop when charging is complete.
Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, though not very reliable, is sometimes able to detect a fault. For more thorough hardware testing, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If nothing is wrong with the hardware, then whatever you can do to improve cooling may help.
Installed software
User-installed software that includes a device driver or other kernel code may thrash the kernel. That category includes virtualization software, such as Parallels and VMware, as well as most commercial "anti-virus" products. Some system-monitoring applications, such as "iStat," can also contribute to the problem. You can test for this possibility by completely disabling or removing the software according to the developer's instructions, or starting in safe mode. Note, however, that disabling a system modification without removing it or testing in safe mode may not be as easy as you think.
Corrupt NVRAM or SMC data
Sometimes the problem is cleared up by resetting the NVRAM or the SMC.
External display
Connecting an external LCD display to some MacBook Pro models while the lid is open may cause this issue. If applicable, test by closing the lid or disconnecting the display. You might get better results with a newer LED display. -
Mid 2013 macbook air keyboard/trackpad stop responding
I have a mid-2013 13" Macbook Air - 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM - 1.7Ghz i7
I spend a good deal of time working at my home, where I have two external monitors (one via USB, one via the thunderbolt port) and a bluetooth wireless mouse and keyboard. Things are great.
I also go on the road, and when I do, I simply unplug my monitors, close the lid, and go.
Lately, I've had some very odd behavior happen which acts a lot like what is described in the latest 13" Macbook Pro Retina EFI fix: http://www.macrumors.com/2013/11/07/apple-releases-fix-for-13-inch-retina-macboo k-pro-keyboardtrackpad-issues/
Here's what happens....when I'm traveling and away from my bluetooth keyboard/mouse, I will open up my MBA and the trackpad and internal keyboard are unresponsive. I can press the power button and get it to turn off...power it back on and am able to use the keyboard to control various boot options (diagnostics, single-user, safe-mode, recovery model, etc). Booting up full, however, the issue will still exist. Looking at the console log, when this is happening, there are a ton (about 4000 every minute) of the following :
11/1/13 7:45:26.000 PM kernel[0]: Error: AppleHSSPIController::doSPITransfer CRC from device was invalid
11/1/13 7:45:26.000 PM kernel[0]: Error: AppleHSSPIController::InterruptOccurred Failed to transfer interrupt data with Err (0xe00002eb)
Eventually, something happens and things start to work -- I will generally see the following in the console log when it starts working:
11/1/13 7:45:27.000 PM kernel[0]: Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad::start Start Succeeded
If I let the machine sit at the unlock screen, eventually a dialog comes up and says "unable to find external bluetooth keyboard/mouse..." It says it will continue to search and will pair with one eventually....it's the same message I would get from my mac mini if it couldn't find the bluetooth keyboard (and has no internal/hardwired keyboard).
When it is happening, I can use "cmd-r" to boot into recovery mode and recovery mode will complain about not having a mouse/trackpad - yet the keyboard seems to work to control what happens at boot time.
I called Apple and got sent to the apple store with a "it sounds like a faulty logic board or a connection that needs soldering". The Apple Store "genius" didn't quite think that was the case and has instead suggested I re-install the operating system. I'm non-plussed by both suggestions. This has happened both before and after Mavericks...
On one of my latest trips, I had a case where I took my laptop out on the plane to try to use it...only to have this issue occur. I landed, got to the hotel, tried again and everything worked fine. Went to dinner - leaving my laptop on the desk plugged in - only to come back to have the keyboard unresponsive.... I've now resorted to traveling with my bluetooth keyboard and mouse "just in case".
Any ideas/thoughts?Mv2400
I will open up my MBA and the trackpad and internal keyboard are unresponsive.
Do four things to test for fault on this,
reset SMC ,
reset NVRAM,
uncheck "put hard disks to sleep"
and UNPAIR both your bluetooth mouse and keyboard from this Mac that you are using with it currently.
yes, the notion that your logic board is at fault is extremely unlikely, additionally (though far more likely) that your Mavericks OS is corrupt.
RESET SMC
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
RESET NVRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
Lastly, go into SYS PREFERENCES > ENERGY > uncheck "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" in both tabs.
Let your Mac go into sleep or close the lid for a few mins. and reopen and verify that your trackpad and mouse are fine. They should be after this,.........
If not contact Apple for full in shop diagnostic, theyll run a hardware test (unlikely causation) and reinstall the OS, then retest and LASTLY replace the logic board (very unlikely). -

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, the mail rules appear to be "shared" for all user on our Mac. When a user adds a rule, everyone sees this rule. Some mail rules are lost in the process. How can we fix this?
