Mid 2014 IMAC with orginal Partion only being 400gb.

I have a 1tb hardrive how can I restore the hard drive to factory settings and just have 1 partion at 1tb?
I have gone through the disk utility and just have 1 partition at 1tb but it wont let me.

Hi DevilDoc123,
It sounds like you have 2 partitions of which you want to delete one, and enlarge the other to regain all the space under a single partition. You will need to delete the second partition first, then you will be able to resize the other. These steps from the Disk Utility Help should assist you in that:
Partition a disk - Disk Utility Help
To enlarge a partition, you must delete the partition that comes after it on the disk, then move the end point of the partition you want to enlarge into the freed space. You can’t enlarge the last partition on a disk.
WARNING: When you delete a partition, all data on it is erased. Be sure to back up your disk's databefore you begin.
Select the disk in the sidebar that contains the partition you want to enlarge, then click Partition.
In the Partition Layout list, select the partition beneath the partition you want to enlarge, then click Delete .
The partition is immediately erased, leaving the space it formerly occupied available.
Resize the partition by doing one of the following:
Drag the dividers between the partitions in the Partition Layout list.
Select a partition in the Partition Layout list, then enter a value in the Size field.
Click Apply.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,
Sterling

  • Mercury Playback on 2014 iMac with AMD Radeon R9 M295X?

After looking at the officially support list of GPUs located here System requirements | Adobe Premiere Pro I noticed that the AMD Radeon R9 M295X that comes in the new 2014 iMac with Retina Display is not specifically listed under "Mac" support. I was wondering if anyone can confirm if, despite not being listed, it is in fact supported?
I am looking to upgrade my editing workstation and want to make sure it is fully supported for Mercury Playback.
    Thanks for the help!

We have the new iMac with the AMD Radeon card and have had problems with it since we got it - particularly with Dynamic Link.  We have raised a support issue with Adobe who have been shoddy at coming back to us but have eventually confirmed (albeit only on the phone) that there is a know issue which "will be resolved in the next release of cc"  not holding my breath!

  • Is there a way I can access my iMac with the keyboard only from home screen?

I accidentally turned off my Bluetooth and I tried to reboot my computer.  I'm now in kind of a hopeless situation. Is there a way I can access my iMac with the keyboard only from the home screen?

Allow me to rephrase that question. Is there anyway I can I access my iMac from the login screen with the keyboard only?

  • I recently updated my Mid 2007 iMac with the latest OS 10.8.5 now my external hard drives will not show up. They show up when I boot them up on a machine running and earlier OS. Is there a fix for this?

I recently updated my 20-inch, Mid 2007 iMac with the latest OS 10.8.5 now my external hard drives will not show up. They show up when I boot them up on a machine running and earlier OS. Is there a fix for this?

Can you see them in Disk Utility?
If so, can you select and Mount them?
If not, disconnect them, reset the iMac's SMC and then reconnect them.
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
If you still can not see them, connect them back up to the iMac running the older OS, open Disk Utility and look to see how they are partitioned and formatted.

  • "Which Firewire cable should I purchase to connect a late 2006 Intel-based iMac with a 400 port to a Mid 2010 IMac with an 800 port?"

“Which Firewire cable should I purchase to connect a late 2006 Intel-based iMac with a 400 port to a Mid 2010 IMac with an 800 port?”

To connect both iMacs, you need a FireWire 400 to 800 adapter, and a FireWire 400 cable, so you will be able to connect both Macs

You did not look at Mountain Lion's Tech Spec's, click www.apple.com/osx and click the Tech Specs tab. That information has been posted for months.

  • Can I install Mountain Lion 64-bit over top of 32-bit version installed by mistake.  M/c is 24-inch mid 2007 iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (64-bit?)

Can I install Mountain Lion 64-bit over top of 32-bit version installed by mistake.  Machine is 24-inch mid 2007 iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo (64-bit?)

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mountain Lion is a full 64-bit operating system. Why do you think Mountain Lion is 32-bit in your computer?
To check that you are definitely using a 64-bit operating system, open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
    uname -a
Then, tell us what you see at the end after RELEASE. If you see i386, you are running a 32-bit operating system. If you see x86_64, you are using a 64-bit operating system. Also, the processor of your Mac is 64-bit

  • My Mid-2011 iMac with pre-installed Lion can't load AHT (Apple Hardware Test) over internet

I have a Mid-2011 iMac (3.4GHz) of which Apple's Support document for the Apple Hardware Test (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509) says:
Some Macintosh computers that shipped with OS X Lion support the use of Apple Hardware Test over the Internet. These computers will start up to an Internet-based version of AHT if the hard drive does not contain AHT.
Well, this doesn't work for me. My Mac is on a DHCP-supporting router which has constant internet connection. Yet, when I turn off the Mac and then on again, holding the D key down even before the screen turns on, the Mac does indeed react to this key as it's then turning the screen on and taking another about half minute before it continues with the boot process along with showing the Mac symbol. Without the D, the Mac symbol comes up quickly.
So, it appears that the iMac is indeed trying to get AHT over the internet. Just that it doesn't succeed in it, and probably timing out after a while.
Any suggestions how to fix this?

try check if you are in that case for your internet acces ?
could be a firewall problem too , if is possible try desable firewall ( or any internet filter )
no you can not see a wifi selection if you are wired ( using cable )
by the way D key for AHT need to be pressed AFTER start up sound , and hold at min one minute

  • Upgrading iMac with CD drive only to Tiger?

How can I upgrade an older iMac with only a CD drive (no DVD drive) to Tiger? Can I boot to DVD from a USB external HD?

    sjesser:
Can I boot to DVD from a USB external HD?
No. Your Mac will not boot from a USB drive. You need a Firewire device.
To install Tiger your computer will need to meet the minimum system requirements for Tiger.
You will need to purchase the Full Retail version of Tiger, which can be purchased from the Apple Store or, on CDs, from applerescue. See this article for options on Installing Tiger without a DVD drive.
Be aware that Computer specific or upgrade versions should be avoided since they are optimized for the computer to which they are specific and will therefore very likely cause problems during or after installation. On the legal side, it may be a violation of the Software License Agreement which statesThis License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single computer at a time. This License does not allow the Apple Software to exist on more than one computer at a time...
    Good luck.

  • My 2014 iMac with Yosemite keeps powering down overnight.  It reboots fine.  It did not do so before the Yosemite update. Help!

my 2014 iMac 27" powers down overnight after I installed Yosemite.  It did not do so prior to the update. I just want it to sleep. How can I fix this? Thanks.

One last thought about a mac taking long to boot...try resetting the PRAM, that usually works.
1Shut down your computer completely. If you cannot access the shut down menu, you can hold the power button down until the machine shuts down. If this does not work, you can unplug it from the wall, but this is not recommended unless there is no other way to shut it down.
2Locate the "Command," "Option," "P" and "R" keys on your keyboard. The Command and Option keys are generally located directly to the left of your space bar. You will need to press these keys all at the same time, so be prepared to do so
3Turn on the iMac. Immediately press and hold down the "Command," "Option," "P" and "R" keys on your keyboard. This must be done before your computer displays the gray startup screen, otherwise it may not work.
4Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts itself again, and you hear the startup chime. You may then release the keys, and your computer will boot up to your login screen or desktop

  • Can I use my mid 2011 iMac with an Xbox 360?

Hello all, I have been unable to find a definative answer to this question so thought it best to ask here. Question being can I connect an Xbox 360 to my mid 2011 21.5 iMac and use it as a monitor for gaming? If this is possible, could you tell me how seeing as the iMac doesn't have a hdmi input?
    Help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

For the 2009 and 2010 27" iMacs there is the Kanex XD http://www.kanexlive.com/xd but it is not compatible with ThunderBolt iMacs as Kanex states in their Product FAQs.
2011 ThunderBolt iMac only accept other ThunderBolt Macs as source.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Thunderbolt/10.6/en/30822.html
The Intensity Extreme http://www.blackmagic-design.com/uk/products/intensity/ might be what you need once it is released.

  • Mountain Lion won't install on mid-2010 iMac with Snow Leopard

Using the same Apple ID I used to purchase Mountain Lion on my Mac Pro, I signed into the Mac App Store on my iMac and downloaded Mountain Lion with no issues.  The iMac is running 10.6.8.
When I launch the ML installer and accept the terms, the install screen appears but the Install button is greyed out as is the icon for my hard disk, Macintosh HD.  Below the OS X Mountain Lion banner it says "OS X cannot be installed on "Macintosh HD".
Snow Leopard was installed on this machine as part of a family pack and I still have the DVD.  Nothing shady going on license-wise, is I guess what I'm saying here.
Anyway, no reason is given and no options are offered other than the Back button at that point.  And I can't seem to come up with anyone having a similar issue in all my "research".  So any help or insight would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Doug

I recommend backing up your system, and before going into the install, checking disk utility > verify disk > macintosh hd partition > to make sure the partition is okay.
If there is anything wrong with it, you will know here. Sounds like the disk may be locked or there is an issue w/the partition "macintosh hd"
also, maybe the partition was created incorrectly... check to see if the partion is MAC OS EXTENDED JOURNALED and not case-sensetive

  • I am using a USB keyboard and everytime I wake the iMac from sleep the keyboard will not respond unless I unplug and replug the keyboard. I am using a mid-2010 iMac with OSX 10.6. Any help would be appreciated.

I am currently using a USB keyboard (PC Model) and everytime I wake the computer from sleep the keyboard no longer responds unless I unplug and replug it. The USB mouse I am using works fine with no issues and I have already gone through the prompt to identify the keyboard in the settings. If anyone know of a setting I can use to permenantly enable the keyboard so I no longer have to unplug and replug it that would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Your 2010 MBP would be able to handle Yosemite, but I would strongly suggest that you get the current problem sorted out before trying to upgrade to Yosemite. I'd also recommend another backup that isn't created by Time Machine if you are thinking of upgrading. SuperDuper and CarbonCopyCloner can make bootable clones of hard drives. If you clone your existing system to a fresh external drive, you would be able to boot from that drive and recover quickly in the event that your Yosemite upgrade didn't work out. Time Machine backups are not 100% reliable.
It's possible that, if your internal HD is the one that shipped with your MBP in 2010, it may be failing. If it keeps needing repairs, that is probably a sign that it is approaching the end of its useful life.
Have you run Disk Utility's Repair tool on the external drive as well?
I mentioned the hub because some people have reported here that attaching their USB 3 drives through a USB 2 hub solved some disconnection problems. A good-quality powered USB 2 hub won't cost much.
My most recent brush with random disconnections involved a nice new OWC drive enclosure. I used the cable that came with the drive, but the drive kept disconnecting. Using a different cable solved the problem. You wouldn't expect that what appeared to be a high quality cable would be a problem straight out of the box, but it was.

  • I have a mid 2011 iMac with 2 thunderbolt ports that I have never been able to get to work.

I purchased two Segate adapters and drives but if I can get them to run at all they will eventually freeze up the computer and I will have to reboot. I just tried them again today and the computer does not even see them.  Has anyone else had this problem and did you get it resolved. I took it to the Apple store once and as you would know after a system reset it worked I took it home and within an houre it froze up the system and I have not gotten it to work since.

Take it back to the Apple Store and leave it there so that they can check it out for a couple of days at least with the disks.
