Mid-dowload crash leads to problems
Help!
iTunes crashed halfway through downloading an audiobook. I used the Check for Purchases option to restart the DL, but after it finished, iTunes said it cannot use the files because the originals can't be found. I snooped all around my HD, but couldn't find a trace of the files anywhere. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
Windows XP
Hello,
I've got an internal 150 gig drive and several externals. I have it partioned into 3 parts, one for system, one for my artwork and one for my design work.
My system partition is 60 gigs and only contains apps and my font library. The reason I was going to repartition is because I don't have enough space for developer tools after all my apps are installed (my current apps are using about 55 gigs worth of space with the Leopard Install included).
All that being, when you say 25% of my system drive should be free.... that means you think I need to keep a minimum of 40 gigs open on my drive? Jesus that's a lot... especially considering how much space the system takes up already and continues to take up after each update. When I first installed I had almost 15 gigs of free space but the software updates are so heavy now a days... So if my current install with apps takes 55 gigs and you say I need to keep 40 open... that only leaves me with 55 for files.....
Yikes,

OK so here is what is happening.
I plug a midi to usb cable into my macbook. the other end connects to my midi device. in this case the Yamaha DTXexplorer drum set. When I go to the midi setup I see the midi cable there and active. However as soon as I touch the drum set, (like tapping on the drum head sending a note) Midi setup crashes with a MAC crash message with the details in it. it says that this is being sent to Apple. (YES) I will post the details here once I get back home and replicate the issue. The same thing happens if I click on the "Test midi" button in midi setup menu. So I am not convinced the crash is completely related to the drum set rather an issue with midi setup. When I search google for this issue it seems like Midi normally just works fine..however in my case it doesn't. ANY help would be greatly appreciated!I have had a similar problem, and it looks as if many people over the years have had similar problems which have not been clarified by Apple. My problem was that if I used the Audio Midi Setup, it would disable my USB Midi input, and AudioMidi would crash if I input any Midi data. If I disabled AudioMidi, no other Midi input would work.
I have solved this problem by creating a new AudioMidi profile, in which I enabled both the IAC Buses and my USB device. All seems OK now, though I have not tested over a significant time. It looks as if the default AudioMidiSetup profile can become corrupted. -
MacBook Audio/Midi setup crashes in Midi
Hello all,
I have a MacBook C2D and a Korg Microkontrol connected via USB. The MacBook sees the MicroKontrol, but only as midi in and out instead of 5 midi ports it should have. When I click on the Microkontrol icon, Audio Midi setup crashes.
I would like to use the 5 ports - any ideas? I run Ableton Live and it sees all 5 ports and uses them.
thanks,
dustspecThanks for that Bob - The article was very helpful but I am still crashing. I'll have another look at the logs and see if I can find the problem.
My MOTU Ultralite is coming up greyed out in the midi devices section so maybe that is part of it?

"The even-numbered length of the DEC field I_DFZ_EX can lead to problems"
Hi All,
I am getting the following warning message while activating the PP datasources,
2LIS_04_P_MATNR
2LIS_04_P_ARBPL
Warning Message: "The even-numbered length of the DEC field I_DFZ_EX can lead to problems"
"The even-numbered length of the DEC field I_DLZ_EX can lead to problems"
"The even-numbered length of the DEC field S_DFZ_EX can lead to problems"
"The even-numbered length of the DEC field S_DLZ_EX can lead to problems"
Checked in SDN, but no answer.
Need your expert solution, to resolve.
With Regards,
SekharThank you Des, for immediate response.
But i have already gone through the Note.
As we are using ghe standard datasources, can you suggest which option should i use to resolve.
Solution
If the field is not manipulated in the customer exit or elsewhere, no
processing is required.
If you change the field, the following possible solutions are available:
1. You can make sure that the number of the characters does not
increase after the manipulation.
2. If you can change the extract structure of the DataSource without
affecting other scenarios (for example, if it was generated in
transaction RSO2), you can increase the length of the DEC field (or
CURR, QUAN) there to the next odd character (in the example above:
from DEC 4 on DEC 5).
3. If neither of these solutions are possible, you can use a customer
append that contains a relevant DEC field (or CURR, QUAN) with the
next highest odd length. This can be used for the result of the
calculations. This means that you do not have to manipulate the
previous field.

Fresh install of trial version of Captivate 8 on OS X 10.9.3 - no previous version of Captivate on machine. I've got lots of crashing to desktop problems right off the bat. Is there a patch available? I work at a University and we're evaluating for online courseware - my last experience with Captivate was 5.0. Anyone else experience this with the trial download?
Hi there,
There is no difference in terms of usage and features between a trial version and a licensed version.
Could you tell me do you get any specific error message when it crashes, or does it crash while using a particular feature, or is it random?
Can you also try with a different user account (admin) on your MAC, check if it behaves same there?
Thanks. -
I am unable to open the midi tab of the Audio/Midi Setup app. I get an error message that states "The application Audio MIDI Setup has unexpectedly quit" and Im then sent to the Submit Report function.
Also I am unable to open Digital Performer for the same reason. It's as if something has high jacked my midi system. This has happened in the past 3 other times. All I have been able to do is completely wipe the harddrive and reinstall everything, which really *****!
Here's the copy from the midi server crash log.
If Im in the wrong discussion please point me in the correct direction.
thanks

Hey all,
So I've had this computer (MacBook Pro 15" mid-2010 model) for a little over a year (bought it a few days after the refresh). Later in the year, it started to get regular crashes until it would become completely unresponsive to the point where turning it on meant I got several beeps (which apparently suggested the RAM was at fault). It was still under warranty, so I had it fixed (RAM replaced). The problems remained, so I returned to have it properly fixed. I went back and forth several times where it was said it had been fixed but actually wasn't. It got to the point where the whole logic board had to be replaced. Although now the keyboard backlight wasn't working, so had to go back and have that fixed as well.
Here's the problem, the MacBook Pro is no longer under warranty. However, the same crashes have started up again. Though it hasn't quite reached the state it was in last year, it still crashes like it use to back then when the crashes first started and I'm afraid that it will eventually reach the state it was in last year. Since the problem is the same as when I originally went to have to MacBook Pro fixed (which was while it was still under warranty) and it took several fixes before it seemed like it was fixed, it could very well still have the same problem. So with that reasoning, am I still covered under warranty?
Originally, I didn't think much of these crashes because all computers crash every now and again. But today when it crashed, it began beeping like it did last year when it wasn't working at all anymore. The crash in itself is totally random in relation to what I may be doing on the computer. The ways it crashes varies: random sudden shut down (not dead battery), a screen comes up suggesting I restart, screen completely freezes, screen goes weird with random color lines.
Also, I don't always get a crash report but I kept one that I did get about two weeks ago after a crash. Perhaps someone technical can take a look and tell me where the problem is in this case?:

com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily 1.3.0I can assure you that the sympton is indeed identical. For as the computer got worse, eventually it refused to start up and made 3 beeps. It has done this before, but today more times than before (just like when it first had this problem). Where-ever you go on the internet, it will tell you that the 3 beeps suggest the RAM is at fault. So, the same 3 beeps, means the same problem, which is the RAM.
With that in mind, I re-ask my question with the same reasoning and justification; am I still covered under warranty? (Reasoning/Justification: Considering the original problem was not entirely fixed, though something else was to make the MacBook Pro last a little longer before the reoccurance of this problem). -
Weird Crash leads to permission problems...
Hello,
I hadHello,
I've got an internal 150 gig drive and several externals.
Yikes,

Macbook Pro Mid-2010 Crashing Randomly with Mavericks?
Hey gang,
I recently upgraded to Mavericks right after purchasing a used Macbook Pro mid-2010. However, more frequently, the laptop has been crashing randomly, and it does not matter which programs/apps are running when it does. Below is the latest crash report. I am looking for help to avoid the nonsense of having to deal with the Genius Bar if at all possible.
If anyone could help me out and lend a helping hand as to what's causing the problem and how to fix it, I would be eternally grateful! Thanks so much.

Thunderbolt Bus:Didn't know Avast was so ****** haha. I removed it last night and also unchecked "automatic graphic switching" in the energy saver preferences. Then shut down my computer and went to bed. Woke up this morning and within five minutes, the computer crashed again. Here's the new report:
(P.S. I read that this model of Macbook Pro has a known problem with GPU Panic -____-)
Thanks for the help so far! I really appreciate it.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) Crashes Every So Often
I've been having issues with my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) for several months now. I have Mountain Lion and every time I have several apps open it crashes and reboots. I took it to the Apple Store twice and both times they reinstalled the OS. I still have the problem. Here's the last report that was sent to Apple, please help:

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the replacement program only applies within three years of purchase. If you wait beyond that date, Apple may refuse the service.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saver preference pane, but that's not a solution.
Most likely, the logic board will be replaced. Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility. -
Macbook Air Mid-2013 crashes (kernel panic) when I stream videos online, why?

I have an MBA mid-2013, and I had it since September 2013, running the Haswell processor as well. I never had any problems or crashes, even after upgrading to OS X Mavericks 10.9.4. Until recently (few days ago), I started streaming videos online on a website called www.crunchyroll.com in HD mode (1080p). I could get up to 4 kernel panics within a span of a few minutes. Once the mac reboots, it goes into a kernel panic almost right away. I have streamed videos before on Hulu and Netflix and other websites alike without any problems. I was thinking it might be a graphics card problem, so I switched from 1080p to 720p, I immediately got less kernel panics (1 time in 20mins). I do not know if this is relevant though. Also, I did not have any external devices plugged in at the time the kernel panics happened.
I was able to save 2 kernel panic reports, they are slightly different on the "backtrace" part so I do not know which one is more accurate.
Can anyone please check this out for me? I would be really happy if there is any fix available, so that I do not have to take my mac to the apple store.
Thank you very much!!

I just got 2 kernel panics in a row now, while running MS Excel. I never had any problems running this program until the kernel panics started a few days ago. While I have the MS Excel running, I also had Safari open with 8 tabs of just regular websites (i.e. Facebook, blog, sephora, etc.)
I copied the latest report:

TOC (table of contents) Formatting/Leader Tab Problems
BACKGROUND
I have found it impossible to format TOCs with leader tabs as I've seen the procedure outlined in numerous forum posts, books, and elswehere. I am an intermediate FrameMaker user running FM 9 on Windows XP Pro. I run the same setup on a home and office machine with the same problem.
I am in the process of migrating very large volumes of our company's documentation from LaTek to FM and this issue is proving to be insurmountable.I need to have complete control over this process, instead of "making do" with the default TOC.
I have spent three days studying every nuance of the issue, which usually leads me to some insight or pattern that lets me solve the problem, or at least share some clue on the forums. However, in this case, FM either doesn't work as its supposed to or it implements my changes in a seemingly arbitrary manner. So I'm not sure if this is a bug or a user error. I've also experienced the occasional crash of FM during all this work, oftentimes this is preceded by the Paragraph Designer window freezing up and refusing to change views within the window (i.e. basic, default font, etc.).
THE PROBLEM
More specifically, I've learned to manage general formatting with the building blocks on the "reference page", but the leader tabs I use for the page numbers almost never propogate, unless I use the sample TOC included with FM.
I am certain they are properly formatted, I've even copied examples directly from files that I know work (FM sample files).
When I implement the process manually, I insert the tab between the building blocks (no spaces), set a right flush tab, double click and choose tab leader option. Then I go to "body page" view, save the document, and regenerate the TOC. Usually nothing happens. Ocassionally, after regenerating several times or creating a fresh TOC, some of the changes magically propogate.
I have even tried importing the format of another TOC, which only seems to work randomly. Mostly not.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
DouglasThanks for your quick responses, as well as your other suggestions for my project.
I am running FM 9.0p230. I tried upgrading to 9.0.3 when I began encountering this problem, but received an error message telling me I was running the wrong version of FM. If any one is familiar with this error message and can mention the fix before I delive into that problem, it is also appreciated.
I have attached the TOC. I'm not sure how/if this can be used to help me troubleshoot, so please let me know. I am new to the forums and the development side of FM.
I did "update all" on the paragraphs tags in question. If you look in the body view of this page with text symbols turned on, you can see the symbols for the second tab stops I have placed between the text and page number. That informatoin also appears in the Paragraph Designer. Both of those things add to my confusion on this matter, because that would seem to indicate I have globally applied the paragraph tags correctly, right?
If you go to the reference page, you will see my treatment of the building blocks.
Thanks again in advance for help,
Douglas -
Macbook Pro 15" (Mid 2014) Crashes repeatably
Since I'm on Yosemite and IOS8(.1) I have more problems with Apple devices than all the seven years before this last month.
One of the most annoying problems at this point is a crashing Mac. It's a custom (515 GB SDD) MacBook Pro Retina 15" (Mid 2014) and it has since the beta testing a freshly installed Yosemite (from the MAS). I copied manually a few things from my Time Machine backup (Application Data, prefPanes and my usual "User-folder" stuff. I do not turn my MacBook off. I just let it sleep with the cover closed.
Every morning I wake up with a I-have-been-crashed popup on my screen. I don't know how! I though it came because I made a new (400GB) backup to my Time Machine enabled NAS but I turned that backup off but the crash was here this morning. Earlier I had this also when I worked on the machine. But that is te last couple of days not the case anymore.
I pinpointed the time of the crash, because of the "report to apple" details. This is some lines from the console:

Does anybody understand this of isn't there a sign what caused the crash? I hope somebody gets it, otherwise it will be a long phonecall to Apple I guessI copied manually a few things from my Time Machine backup (Application Data, prefPanes and my usual "User-folder" stuff.
Hi ..
It's likely one or more of the, "few things" restored from TM that's causing the crash.
Reformat (erase) the drive using OS X Recovery to see if it's stable. If so, then it's definitely something transferred from the TM backup that's causing the problem.
