Middle click opens a bookmark or link, instead of plain new tab with default home page

Specifically, when I middle-click the empty area of the tab row, the generated tab is whatever link was copied from the address bar by (somehow) a previous middle-click. I want my default behavior back.

hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

  • Why cant I find an add-on to open a new tab in my home page on Firefox 5?

    I have been able to open a new tab in my home page (Google in my case) in all of the other versions of Firefox. I am a loyal user but this is frustrating. I cannot locate an add-on for this feature. Is there something out there?

    You can use one of the following IF you also install the Add-on Compatibility Reporter, below (the developers need to update one line of their code to make them compatible with Firefox 5).

    I've been working on this all day!!! I've tried everything I know of and can't get it to load either. Sounds like lots of people are having problems. Here is what I have so far...I have uninstalled EVERYTHING on my pc from apple and reinstalled itunes to no avail. I have tried all sorts of things I've read as fixes online. NOTHING has worked. Here is something interesting that i have noticed though. my main pc (which is the one i have always managed my itunes account with for years) is a 32 bit system running windows 7. Yesterday I installed itunes for the first time on my new netbook which is a 64 bit (windows 7) system and it works just fine. i have three other laptops (all window 7) in my household that are all 64 bit operating systems and ALL have updated to 10.5 and THEY ALL work fine. this is FOUR 64 bit systems ALL updated w/10.5 that work and ONE that is a 32 bit that will not. Can't get any help from apple. their suppot *****! I want to get someone on the **** phone or a live chat but cant. *** APPLE????? please let mw know if you find SOMETHING i can try next. I'm out of ideas and patience!

  • I want to open my bookmarks on the toolbar to a new tab. But when I click it, it replaces the webside I am browsing not to a new tab. How would I achieve this? Besides, I don't want to drag the icons. What I want is simply click it. Thank you.

    I am a new user of Firefox. I don't what is my edition but I just download it to my desktop yesterday.

    A middle-click on the bookmark should open it in a new tab. Alternatively there are quite a few tab related add-ons that give you the option to open bookmarks in a new tab. Some examples are:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13784/ Open Bookmarks in New Tab]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1122/ Tab Mix Plus]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/59961/ Tab Utilities]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/14439/ Tabberwocky]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13288/ Super Tab Mode]
    The last 4 also add many other features relating to tabbed browsing.

  • Every time Firefox opens, I get new tab, with my desired page as a tab that I have to click on to get to. How do I go back to how it was in previous versions?

    After updating to the newest version of Firefox, when it opens I get two tabs, and the one that comes up on my screen is new tab, with my homepage on the other, which requires that I click on it to go there. Also when I click on a link the same thing happens, a new tab page comes up, with what I clicked on as another tab that I have to click on to get to. This is actually quite annoying and inconvenient. How do I go back to the way that it was, so that when I start Firefox it opens on my home page, and when a new page opens, I see the content of the link that I clicked on? IMO This new and improved is really new and made worse.

    An extra extension might have snuck in. These can be bundled with other software you might have installed recently.
    Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable. (Or if completely unwanted, remove.)
    Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Does that get rid of the extra tab?
    Note: I suggest also visiting the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and clicking the "Installed on" column header. This should bring the most recent additions to the top and group them by install date so you can investigate how unexpected software might have been installed.

  • Firefox start page opens up as new tab whenever my home page opens

    I've changed the default home page to another website.
    Whenever Firefox starts up, two tabs will open ie. my homepage and Firefox start page. While browsing on any tab, if I click ALT+HOME to go to homepage, a new tab opens again for the firefox start page.
    Why is this happening? It didn't happen with older firefox browser versions.

    I have the same issue and figured it out. When you (and I) set our home pages, the Firefox start page was open also. Firefox takes every tab you have open when you set your home page. So close all but 1 tab and go to your desired home page and set it through the Tools>options>General tab. That fixed it for me.

  • Why is Firefox opening a separate browser window for each link instead of a new tab in the current browser window?

    Suddenly firefox has started opening a new, separate browser window for every link and thing I open. It used to just open a new tab in the current browser. I must have closed down 15 browsers when trying to get back to a previous web page - the back button doesn't work when each click leads to a new window opening! I went into options and my settings have not changed, they still say "open new tab" for links. This just started happening out of the blue today. What's up?

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Is there a way to open new tabs in the home page or some other link?

    When I open a new tab using the "+" symbol I get a blank page. I would like new tabs to open in my home page, or, if possible, a different page, like my favorite web browser, which is what I usually want when I open a new tab.
    Can this be done? I can't find the right preference for it, assuming that's the right place for such an option.

    Nothing beats about:blank in my opinion for clarity and for tab history.
    Here is an extension that does what you asked for, it is VERY large for what you get out it (which to me, what I would get out of it is confusion).
    '''NewTabURL''' :: Add-ons for Firefox (49.2 KB)
    :Select default URL when new tabs are opened: "Blank page", "Home page", ""Current page" or a user defined URL.

  • Safari can't automatically open a new tab on my Home Page?

    OK - I have searched all over the web and this discussion site - are you telling me that outside of using a combination of keyboard shortcuts that Safari - UNLIKE EVERY OTHER BROWSER OUT THERE - can't open a new tab on the user's home page? Let's see if unlike every other post I've ever made to the discussion groups I will get an answer from someone.

    are you telling me that outside of using a combination of keyboard shortcuts that Safari - UNLIKE EVERY OTHER BROWSER OUT THERE - can't open a new tab on the user's home page?
    Correct. If you create a tab group you could click one bookmark entry to quickly open up your preferred homepages.
    You're not the first to ask and not the only person who would like to see this. Send feedback via Safari menu > Report Bugs to Apple...

  • How to change the homepage for a new tab when the home page of the initial tab and subsesequently opened tab are different?

    When iam using firefox i selected google as my home page. But while opening another tab in the same window(ctrl+T), I am getting babylon search as home page for it. How can i get rid of this problem?

    '''''"...while opening another tab in the same window(ctrl+T), I am getting babylon search as home page for it."""
    Any search toolbar and changes to search engines can take place by downloading and installing software; usually "free" software from the internet. Babylon can be downloaded and installed by itself or as a "ride-along" when installing/updating some software from the internet. Always look for an opportunity during the installation to un-check boxes that will install "ride-along" items that you do not want. Firefox installation does not include such "ride-along" items.

  • How do I open each new tab as my home page?

    My home page includes my Google search box. I would like each new tab to be the same as my home page when opened. Please can you tell me how this is done?
    Many thanks

    cor-el, your detailed answer was great! Providing the exact item in the list of hundreds/thousands narrowed it down perfectly.
    Note to others, I turned off the showing of all the recent sites (very few I visit often enough to be given that list on each new tab, history and multiple tabs does what I need).
    You toggle them on/off with the only icon in the upper right of the page (looks like floor tiles with space between each tile) and even when turned off the selected browser.newtab.url shows.

    It's EXTREMELY annoying. >.>

    Third-party system modifications are a common cause of instability and poor performance. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
    Reboot as usual (not in safe mode) if you haven't already done so. Launch the Terminal application, copy or drag -- do not type -- the line of text below into the window, and press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
    Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
    Next, do the same thing with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
    That's one line, not two. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Next, this command:
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
    Again, one line. Finally, one more:
    ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/B,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Se,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
    Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.
