Middle clicking links will sometimes open two or more tabs

I imagine this is probably a bug and nothing can be done. It SEEMS as if it's only happening since the latest update.
Basically, what happens is when I open a bunch of links with middle click (pretty sure it needs to be more than one), sometimes the links will create two or more tabs of that link

The dialog Firefox displays when you click the "close window" (X) button doesn't have the option to only close the current tab. Instead, you can use one of these methods to close just the current tab:
* Click the "x" that should appear on the current tab itself
* Right-click the current tab > Close tab
* Press Ctrl+w to close the current tab
(Note: If you accidentally press Ctrl+w twice, you can re-open the tab by pressing Ctrl+Shift+t to Undo Close Tab)

• Clicking a link will not open a new tab

On a Win7 computer, Firefox 34.0.5 works fine for the administrator account. For the user account however, a new tab will not open when clicking on a link in a web page. The settings under options / tabs are all checked properly. I have uninstalled Firefox, removed all the files from the profile directory for the user, then reinstalled Firefox - got the same result. I even uninstalled Flash player per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1032376 - still, a new tab will not open when clicking on a link in a web page. Have tried safe mode and restoring defaults without any luck. I suspect the answer is simple (Occam's razor) - just can't seem to find it though.

Hi postseason, you said
<blockquote>
The link opens in the same window. It's not unique to any site, it's consistent.
</blockquote>
As John99 stated, that is the normal way that Firefox handles links. The setting in options refers to when links are coded to open in a new window, do you want a new window or do you prefer a new tab.
In addition to the methods John99 listed, Ctrl+click opens a link in a new tab (nearly always; links intercepted by scripts can evade it).
If you want ALL links to AUTOMATICALLY open in a new tab, you would need an add-on for that. I don't use it myself, but Tab Mix Plus has a very rich set of options for where to open links, bookmarks, etc. You can read more about it here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/
As a footnote, Google has a search preference (here) that codes results to open in a new window, so that's why I asked if you only noticed the difference on particular sites.

• I open facebook or other site. right click link/photo to open in new tab quickly. Then all tab connection will be connection to website, all page stop loading. Have to close firefox and reopen then only site will load.

You can override how links are opened via the browser.link.open_newwindow.override pref.

*1: current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab;

• Sometimes clicking on a workitem opens two windows

Hi,
some users of our Netweaver portal reports an issue with their universal worklist.
Sometimes, apparently randomly, clicking on a workitem opens two windows instead of just one.
Is there some known bugs related to some browser settings or something similar? (we use Internet Explorer 8)
Thank you,
Pietro

Hi Pietro,
I could not found on the SAP Known cases databese, a similar case lake that. However ther eis some tests you can do to try to isolate the issue:
1) Ask the users to set their Ie8 to compatibility view.
2)  Ask the user to try to reproduce in other desktop, with this we could isolate the the issue seems to be on the browser configurarion.
3) Try to apply the following notes to guarantee the cynchronization of all user: #1086644 ,#1016283 and #710663
4) ALso its alway safer be on the latest patch of component UWLJWF.

links will not open when I click on them in email

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).<br />
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins<br />
<br />
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.<br />
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.<br />
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Can I get links to automatically open in a new tab just by clicking on them?

I've selected the option to: "Open new windows in new tab instead" from the options menu. For some time this seemed to open any link I clicked on in a new tab. For some reason this feature is no longer working and new links clicked on simply overwrites the current tab with the new page. I liked the feature of having links open automatically in new tabs. The option remains selected but it does not seem to be working.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== recently

Standard Firefox behavior is left-click will open a link or bookmark in the currently selected tab, over-writing whatever is in that tab. The definition for the option "Open new windows in a new tab instead" is:
Open new windows in a new tab instead: This option preference controls whether ~~red:links from other applications~~ ~~blue:or from web pages which request to open them in new windows~~ are opened in a new window or a new tab in the most recent window.
See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options+window+-+Tabs+panel
A <u>middle-click</u> on a link or bookmark will open in a new tab (middle-click = press the scroll wheel). <u>Ctrl+left-click</u> will also open a link or bookmark in a new tab.
See: http://www.mouserunner.com/FF_Shortcuts1Printable.html

<u>Update Java</u>: your ver. 1.6.0.07; current ver. 1.6.0.20 (<u>important security update 04-15-2010</u>) (Firefox 3.6 and above requires Java 1.6.0.10 and above; see: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Java-related+issues#Java_does_not_work_in_Firefox_3_6 )
(Windows users: Do the manual update; very easy.)

Do the update with Firefox closed.

• New links will not open in a tab, only in the main window

with firefox 21, links will not open a new tab, only in the main window. I have set the option for tab opening, but it still will not work

Did you installed ASK toolbar?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
<b> To Enable SafeMode </b>
*You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
*Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox"; Linux: "Firefox/File > Quit")

After doing a Google search for web sites, the reultant links will not open, a 'Firefox not responding' shows in the URL bar.

I had the same problem and my solution was to disable the PDF extension that came with Firefox 4 which belongs to another company. I found out that it wast interfering with ReaderX. I unabled it and restarted Firefox. I have had no problems since then. Go to Tools, Add-On and click on Extensions and disable the PDF extension. I hope this helps

• Pdf links will not open in ie8 windows 7

I have installed, uninstalled Adobe Reader 10 and Internet Explorer.  I have tried all the solutions listed in some other posts.  PDF links will not open the files on some web sites, Fidelity.com in particular. I have reset IE8 Advanced Options and Advanced Options Reset, Created another Windows Administrative user, performed clean boot in Windows and run IE8 (no addons) from the accessory menu and unchecked the Display PDF in Browser box in preferences.  None of these options have resulted in correcting the problem.  Adobe Reader 10 works fine on the Fidelity web site in Firefox.

You can also try to close the tabs via Ctrl+W and restore the closed tabs via Shift+Ctrl+T

• Clicking link in mail opens a new tab, not a new window

When clicking on a link in AppleMail, after a recent update, opens a tab in a random window or perhaps the top window in Safari.  Until this update, clicking on the link used to open a new window.  This is driving me nuts.  I am getting links from mail opening in a new tab in Safari windows I reserve for specific topics, or uses.  I do not want unrelated mail links opening and interfering with work in these existing browser windows.  Also, when I see the link from mail is not wanted, I too often close the window like I usually do, but now inadvertently close a Safari window with multiple tabs of important information, that I have trouble recreating.  Where did this come from!?  How do I change it so a new window opens?

I was having the same problem and finally figured out how to change this bahavior.  Go to Safari preferences under the 'Tabs' settings.  Make sure the field "Open pages in tabs instead of windows" is set to NEVER.  That should do the trick.

One of the gentlemen was able to take over control of my computer, and got it working for me, however since that time the program will sometimes open but most times it just freezes the computer and I have to shut it down and re open without any success with opening the elements program.
Can you help

Sosure

What video card/graphics card does your computer use? NVIDIA GeForce? If so, please read the Announcement about the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce issue which is found at the top of this web site. Does that apply to you? The explanation for the situation and the fix (roll back of the driver version) are all included in that Announcement.
