Midi controlled filters, aka use mod wheel to change cut off frequency

Does garageband have any filters that you can control in real time via midi? Such as dynamically changing the cut off frequency of a low pass filter.
I'd love to do a classic filter sweep using the mod wheel.
Are there any midi controlled AU plugins that can do this?

Any automation in GB is done via the automation curves.

  • Input Control filtering in Offline Mode

This question relates to using a Webi report on the iPad. Current version is installed on the iPad.
I presumed when an Input Control (IC) is used, the data from the query is stored within the microcube of the document.
So when an IC filter value is used there is no need to go back to the database and query; the filtering is done by reading the microcube data.
So when I used an Input Control in a document that was being used in offline mode I was surprised when the IC icon showed "All Values" but I cannot open up the Values list to select a value to filter on in the Inout Control. I would have thought it was valid to expect the IC will still work in offline mode as there would be no need to go back to the data source. When making the connection active again the IC works again opening up the list enabling the selection of values to filter by.
So is it right that an IC in offline mode defaults to All Values and you cannot open the list to select a value to filter on?
    It's BO v4.0 SP5.
    Thanks

    Hi All,
Answering to original post as there are other variants discussed in subsequent threads.
Though InputControl operation from MOBI does not touch the datasource, it needs to interact with BOE platform. This is because of the change in aggregation of data involved, when we change input control value.
Hence IC does not work out of the box for offline documents in MOBI.
Having said that, there is a way through which you can make input control values available for offline analysis, using Personal views.
(Open a webi document-->perform various selections of LOVs in input control-->save as personal view-->this personal view can be accessed in offline and you will be able to repeat the input control operations only for those LOVs which you already explored before saving the personal view)
We can refer MOBI user guide for more detail on personal view.

  • Mod Wheel not changing Articulation ID

I'm using the Samson Carbon 61 keyboard controller to program drums with Drum Kit Designer. The decice is working correctly. But when using the GM + Mod Wheel for Hi Hat control, the Mod Wheel doesn't make any changes in the Articulation ID parameter. I already checked and the Mod Wheel is sending the corresponding CC#1 (Modulation) messages to the software correctly. Does anyone know how to solve this?

    Not Edgar, but...
DrumKit Designer uses Articulation ID's to control the HiHat Open/Closed amount. Switching to GM+ does indeed work the Open/Closed amount here on F#1, G#1 and A#1 notes with the Mod Wheel. It works regardless of MIDI transmission channel and regardless of the Instrument track MIDI Channel.
You may note that playing say an F#1 with the Mod Wheel on Max will give you an open Hat sound, but moving the ModWheel back to zero will not give you a "pedal closing" hat sound. You have to play the note again.
If the controller device is correctly sending MIDI CC1, the OP may want to switch DKD for the EXS24 after loading the desired kit and setting the GM+ in DKD. You could then open up the EXS Editor Groups pane and watch check that they are being selected as you play a note repeatedly whilst moving the Mod Whl.

    Please help.
I am using some text in FLA and when I test movie or publish swf. I see the end of the last word in the text line cut off.

  • Automating Mod wheel data after midi input

    Hi all,
So what ive done is create a Bodyrox style patch on the ES2 and linked the mod wheel using the routing to cutt off 1+2 and Env3 release. I have inputed my midi via piano roll but not want to add the automation for the mod wheel so that I can open and close the feed to the cut offs and release through out the piece.
I have a feeling I am over looking something really obvious, but isn't it always the way!
    Regards Craig

It's even easier to record Hyper Draw:
Record over the existing MIDI region and move the Mod wheel... you'll record the CC data in Hyper Draw mode, which you can view in the Piano Roll by clicking on the Hyper Draw button (bottom left of Piano Roll).
Here you can fine edit the Hyper Draw info if needed.
    Hope that helps

  • How do you crossfade with mod wheel?

I'd like to be able to xfade between 2 samples during a single note in exs.
eg both trumpet soft and trumpet loud triggered. then use the mod wheel to change their relative levels so that at either extreme only 1 or other of the sample is heard.
can't seem to figure out how to do that, but i'm sure its possible.

    Hi Rohan,
There are a couple of ways to do this in with the EXS, but the following seems to work the best for me.
Using the trumpet soft and loud sample example...
You would assign all of the soft trumpet samples (zones) to a layer in the EXS editor. Click on the triangle in the upper left hand corner of the layer box to expose it's parameters. And where it says "Select Range", assign values that would correspond to the lower throw of the mod wheel, in terms of MIDI values. In the case, something like 0 - 63.
Then put the loud samples on a second layer, and assign it's "Select Range" to the other half of the mod wheel throw. (64-127)
Then, go to the front panel of the EXS. And in the first section of the Mod Matrix, where it says "Dest" (destination), select "Sample Select". And where it says "Src" (Source), select "Ctrl #1" (Controller #1, which is the Mod Wheel).
If you played the trumpet sample now, and moved the mod wheel, you would hear an abrupt "switch" from soft to loud samples.
So now, look at the box in the upper left hand corner on the front of the EXS, and you'll see "X-Fade". The "amount" parameter will adjust how quickly the 2 samples crossfade, and the "type" parameter allows you to select the type of crossfade you employ. Experiment with different values here, to see what works best for your situation.
It's actually a very easy thing to set up, but I'm afraid my explanation might come across as anything but!
    A few things to note...
Crossfading between samples of differing dynamics (i.e. soft>loud) tends to work better, or at least achieve convincing results when it's an ensemble, as opposed to a solo instrument. At least with some of the samples I have tried it with. Also, having 3 or 4 dynamic levels yields far better results than just 2. However, doing this with the trumpet example is entirely possible, but the quality and consistency of the samples plays heavily in the outcome. For instance, the solo trumpet from VSL's Opus 1 uses the mod wheel to shift from soft to loud, using 3, maybe 4 separate layers, and the transitions are very smooth.
    Hope that helps...

  • I was using my Ipod Touch, and it just cut off.  It won't turn back on now.  It won't charge.  What can I do?  Any suggestions?

Help!  I charged my Ipod touch the other night, I was using it yesterday and it cut off.  It won't turn back on now at all.  I've tried to plug it in to charge, and absolutely nothing happens.  Any suggestions?

    Hello Christie,
With it still plugged in, try a hard reset to see if that helps.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  This may or may not work the first time around, so be sure to try this at least a couple of times.

  • Internet cuts off when using the phone

The last few days, as soon as the phone rings or as soon as we use it the internet completely cuts off.
We have recently moved the positioning of the router to pick up a better signal and it has improved (still not the best) but now this problem has occured.
    Help would be appreciated...

If you have moved it to an extension socket, then that socket may be wired up incorrectly. If you have plugged a phone into the original location of the BT Home hub, have you remembered to insert a microfilter before the phone?

  • Mod Wheel controls fader, not modulation???

When using the mod wheel on a M-Audio keystation 61es through a Roland SI-24 on Logic Pro7.1, the mod wheel doesn't affect any plug-in parameters (cut-off, etc). Insted it changes the fader on Audio Track 2 and Audio Instrument 6. Any help?

  • MOD wheel only goes up to MIDI value 86

    Hi all,
My MOD Wheel, controlling modulation data in Logic pro X, only gives MIDI values from 0-86.
Even when the wheel is at the top, the data never goes above 86.
Would anyone know how to get it to output values from 0-127?
    Thanks

  • Use mouse scroll wheel to change numeric control

Does anyone know if and how I can use the mouse scroll wheel to change numeric control values?

Another option would be to change the timeout.  This would avoid the timeout event every ms when the mouse has not "entered" the contol.

  • Mod Wheel Only Goes Down To 45

This is a very recent problem. My modulation wheel now only wants to go down to around 45. It will go all the way up to 127, and hit it around 3/4 of the way to the top. I have checked all the keyboard settings I know to check. It shows it only going form 45 to 127 in both Logic and on the keyboard display. It is a Kurzweil PC1X. I am sure that this is keyboard related, but I can't find a good Kurzweil place to ask questions, and thought you guys might be able to help me. Also, I thought there might be a way to define the mod wheel parameters in Logic. The mod wheel is very important to me, because I normaly use it to control velocity for Vienna Instruments.
Oh, and as a side question. How do I find out what the different midi controllers are called on my kepboard? If, for example, I were to use a seperete controller to control velocity, and wanted to redraw some things after performance in the Matrix editor, how would I find out which midi controller it is from the list of options? Thanks very much.
    Colin Thomson

I can't help with the Kurzweil because I don't know it.
About controllers, usually in good keyboards, like yours, you can customize them choosing which MIDI message they send; they are described in the keyboard manual together with a MIDI implementation table.
If you want to see in Logic what happens when you use a controller open the Event List (under the Window menu).

  • De-assign MIDI control?

Is it possible to de-assign a MIDI control? As it is, two of the rotary controllers on my Axiom 25 are assigned to channel strip faders and pans, respectively. This seemed to be so by default; none of them show up in the Controller Assignments pane. Does anyone know if there is a way to delete these assignments?

Your controller is sending MIDI volume (7) and Pan (10) data, which the selected channel will respond to.
If you don't want your controller to control the channel strip, then don't send that info, or change the CC numbers the controller sends. There are ways of filtering, or transforming it in Logic, but the simplest solution is to not send those specific messages which have a specific MIDI function in the first place.
If you want to use you controller to control other things, stay away from using those specific MIDI CC numbers that do specific things (modulation, volume, pan, expression, bank changes, mode changes etc)
