MIDI Drums

Hi,
The MIDI drum loops I select sound OK when listening to them, however, when I drag them up to create a new track, the sound is not the same and is often pitched? Anyone got any suggestions?

Deleting the Preferences has solved the problem for cpa54.
When a midi drum loop was dragged into a track the sound was not a drum sound any more but a synth sound even though no effects or synth sounds were selected. This happened on completely new projects. It did not affect other users on the same machine however which indicated that deleting the preferences would solve the problem.

  • MIDI Drums not syncing with tempo track automation

I created some tempo changes, basically subtle speed-ups etc, worked fine, recorded guitars and bass, made a rough mix, all sounded great.
Now I go back to do more recording and editing, and the MIDI drums won't speed up with the automation, thus putting it out of sync with the audio tracks that have been recorded to it. I've restarted etc, no luck. Anyone have any ideas what could have happened?

Maybe your Drum Machine doesn't accept Logic as it's MIDI master in terms of sync. There can only be one MIDI clock master. By default, it's Logic. Look if you Drum machine is set to slave!
But i must admit i never worked the chapter through in the Manual, since i didn't need it before. So i recommend looking there as well.

  • How to make definitive a midi drum mapped track

It escapes me the way to make definitive a midi drum mapped track. In other words I'd want to transform all mapped notes in real notes.

    bounce in place?

  • Separate midi drum channels not showing in piano roll, only kick

hey ya'll!  I separated my midi drum notes on to separate mudi tracks. But now only the kick track shows up in the piano roll window.
I am using AD and need to be able to edit the drum midi tracks. I use the piano roll window for this. Can someone help me?
    Jon

You can select multiple regions in the arrange window and they will all show up in the piano roll. If you color each drum region a different color and select "region colors" in the piano roll view menu you can easily tell which regions are whoch.

  • Saving re-mapped midi drums

I have just re-mapped midi drums now how do I save that as a pre-set or save it so I can load it for every session?

    Hi,
once you have defined the Lane Set, you can rename it in the Info field.
In order to use that in a new project, you must import it, here how to do:
    1) create a new project
    2) in File menu choose IMPORT and then OTHER
    3) select the project that contain the Lane set you have created
    4) in the window that appear on the right, on bottom click on the "Import Project Settings" button
    5) Then you can select Lane Sets. That is!
In this way you can select also other things to import, Screensets, Scoresets, and others and others.
    Hope this have helped you.

  • Separate Midi Drums To Different Tracks?

    Hi,
I have just programed my midi drums on an instrument track.
Is there way to separate the snare, kick drum to separate midi tracks other than manually doing so?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Darren.

Make copies of your drum Instrument track (shift+return) - copy/option drag the regions to the copied tracks - select highest and lowest not in the Inspector of your regions - so kickdrum lowest/highest note C1/C1 - snare D1/D1 - and so on.
Even faster way is to go to the region menue in the Arrange->Split/seperate->separate different pitches (translated form my german menue)
every note will be split up into a new region so you'll have a region with kickdrums/snares and so on.

  • Looking for MIDI Drum Pads

Can anyone recommend some good midi drum pads that work well with GB? I was previously using the pads build onto my M-Audi Axiom keyboard, and despite them being cheap and M-Audio, they worked relatively well until they stopped working entirely. Looking to spend up to $500. Thanks.

Check out my response to your Q in the GB 8 forum.
For $500 you could get something with decent sounds as well - check out Roland Handsonic, NI Maschine (don't know how well it works with GB though), other grooveboxes by Roland, Akai, Korg, etc.
If you're not looking for something with sounds but only as a MIDI controller for GB, you might look into another Axiom. They now have some "pro" models with extra features.
If you just want pads, you might be able to repurpose a used drum machine on the cheap.

  • Can't hear live track when playing midi drum track

This is a really dumb question. I've been away from Logic too long. I'm trying to monitor a live guitar track while I play a recorded midi drum beat. I can hear the midi track fine. And I can hear the live guitar track when the midi track is not playing. But as soon as I start playback, the live track goes silent even though the red record enable button is on and the levels show live guitar signal. It just doesn't make it to the output. If I actually record a region, I can hear it. But I don't want to record, I just want to practice with effects and a drum track.
I've done this before. What have I forgotten?

    Hi,
hold down the "CTRL + click" ot rigth button of the mouse in the REC icon on the transport...

Copying the MIDI regions to an empty Drummer track works fine, but caution regarding Convert to Drmmer Regions: this will erase any MIDI programming previously done

  • Recorded audio is playing back out of time with midi drums, I'm using a new avalon 737 with it too.

I am trying to record guitar over a midi drum track, its all great except the guitar plays back out of time with the drums, i have just introduced an avalon 737 compressor, it didnt used to have before.
Before the Avalon it all worked perfectly, cant figure out how the avalon would make logic play out of time, I am recording through an Apogee Duet 2.

    Yeah, and it didn't work.
I had problems when I updated to iOS 5 (lost all my apps - a few of my friends had the same problem) and when there was an update to iOS 4 (camera wouldn't work). The iOS 5 issue was sorted by backup (but I lost the app data) but for the iOS 4 issue I had to return my iPod to get a new one.

  • Exporting Band In A Box Midi drums to Logic

I am trying to export Band In A Box midi to Logic Pro. I did the export, then imported the midi into Logic and I could define reasonable instruments, except for the drums, which were totally garbled and the midi note assignments simply didn't match anyting expected. But, the exported midi file plays fine in the Quicktime player, so I decided to try the Quicktime Instruments profile. This seems to work, but it's VERY quirky, with instruments seeming to change inexplicably. For example, the acoustic bass turns into a piano. It just seems buggy. I've had the piano inexplicably change to a synth too. There doesn't seem to be a way to reset it to the piano instrument when this happens.
But, the better way may be to figure out how to map the drum sounds correctly into a regular Logic drum kit synth.
Anybody have any ideas how to solve this?
    Thanks.

make sure the midi track you are going to import to has the 'no transpose' switched checked. Otherwise, Logic will sometimes try to transpose according to the chords in a song...
I'm not clear why this still happens sometimes. But turning the no transpose switch on should work. Make sure your using a GM drum instrument. All the ones that come in EXP are GM.

  • Using midi drums and Logic sounds

    Hi guys
I have been looking at the different softwares to use with my Alesis DM10 and Logic Pro X using the USB as when I currently record it just catches the midi notes and no sounds
I have seen BFD, NI Drums and the various others but they cost money and would like to use built in sounds to logic, is this possible or can I map the midi to Drummer at all ?
OR if anyone has any other bright ideas
    thanx in advance

    Hi
Drum Kit Designer  includes several different note/CC mappings:
    https://help.apple.com/logicpro-instruments/mac/10/#lgsi1c04d853
If this doesn't do it, you may need to remap the source module, or remap the MIDI within Logic

  • Print out midi drum music

    Hey,
I programmed some drums for my band. Is there any way I can print out the music of the midi so our drummer can learn them?
    cheers

No, but you can open a GB song with Logic Express. So if you get the demo, just open your song with Logic Express, then get the pdf manual, and read the chapter on scoring, where it describes how to print. It looks like it is important to read this, since you have to select the correct paper size and such, or things can get cut off.

  • Need help recording midi drums

i have a roland td-4 running to LP 9.1 using XLN addictive drums. what my problem is when i try to record my performances it doesn't capture all of the note. like if i play a 16th notes it will only record 8th notes. but when i am playing i can here all of the notes. so i know it is triggering all of the sounds it just isn't recording them. i am sure it is just a setting somewhere i am missing. but i am new to the whole midi thing so i really have know clue what or where to look for it.
Thank you for any and all help it is greatly appreciated!

i am not telling it to.
Well, that you are aware of. Deselect all regions in the arrange window, and look at your region parameters (which are now "MIDI Thru" parameters. Is there a quantize value set there? if so, this quantize is being automatically applied by Logic to every MIDI region to record.
hen i record it shows all of the notes i am playing until i hit the stop button. then most of my notes disappear.
Look at the data in the event list or piano rolls editors - are you saying that not all the ntoes you play are here? Try recording one note - do you get a region with one note in it?
Record one with ten notes - count the events in the event list - are there ten events in there?

  • What would cause Logic to open MIDI drum tracks as separate GM tracks?

So this is a continuation of a question I posted in another thread (so some of you may recognize the topic), but I have narrowed my problem down to this:
When I load a Standard Midi File into Logic 9, all my drum tracks come up as separate tracks (by actual drum) as GM Device. So I have 11+ tracks for drums. One for kick, one for snare, one for...you get the point. This has happened for several files, so it's not limited to one. The tracks have no playback (unless I load QT synth, which sounds like an 80's video game).
I posted the file for a few people to DL and try and it loaded correctly for them! Drums are on ONE track and load a Logic drum set (not GM on separate tracks).
So the question is: Why is MY copy of Logic behaving this way and others are not? Is this a simple setting?
You can take a peak at some screen caps and the original journey here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2147823&tstart=0
    Thanks,
    Scott

Thanks Bill. I guess the split tracks are half the problem. I was under the impression that those of you who loaded the file had the tracks combined and Logic loaded a drum set for them. So, when you loaded the file the drum tracks were NOT loaded into a GM instrument? Each drum track was a Logic Instrument? Still a little confused...
Thanks for the tip on glueing tracks together. I'm on it.
I will do this then create a new track, load a drum set, and move the midi data onto it. Still a work around, IMO, but a faster one!
