Midi file Logic Express 7.2 and Sibelius 4.10

Hi All
I am using Logic Express 7.2 to export a midi file then importing it into Sibelius 4.10, this works fine on G5 mac but not on an intel iMac.
The Sibelius error is "There was a problem opening the midi file: Not a format 0 or 1 midi file"
I have contacted Sibelius support and they have said this is a Logic problem.
My own research has shown that if the logic file has only one track and I export a midi Sibelius will open it but not a multiple track file. As mentioned above G5 macs have no problem whatsoever.
Has anyone come across this or have any suggestions please. Thanks

I have discovered one thing, after deleting preferences, etc.: it seems that everything start because my evolution USB keyboard is connected with usb to powerbook. I have tried also with another USB Edirol keyboard, and it's the same. Instead, if I connect the keyboard with MIDI the 1082 works again. Strange because: 1) before update, usb and firewire were connected and everything was fine, 2) now in the same usb port a guitar rig board is connected and the 1082 works as usual... ?!?!?!?!

If you still have access to the old Mac, you might try using Migration Assistant to transfer applications to the new Mac.

  • Logic Express 7.2 and Hypersonic 2

When Logic Express comes up it checks for AU Units and has a problem with Hypersonic 2. Here's the report that the AU Validation Tool gives.
    http://www.digimixstudios.net/hypersonicerrorreport.txt
If I tell Logic to go ahead and use Hypersonic as a AU Unit it still works.
I went back to GarageBand 3 and Hypersonic has no problems.
    Anyone else run into this.

  • Exporting MIDI in Logic Express 9

I use logic to record VST drum tracks using Superior Drummer. I may record a few different takes that are in my take folder. When I'm editing the MIDI take, I may add some extra bass drum hits or cymbal crashes.
Here is my problem: When I select the take to export, after its saved to my desktop, I'll reimport it to test it. It imorts 2 MIDI files. The first one is the main file with the track and CC info. the second MIDI track is the added hits that I edited earlier. I now have to merge the two files to make them play correctly.
This happens when I send to my friend who is also using superior drummer, but on Nuendo.
I have normalized the track and try to merge is but no luck!
Does Logic make a track layer with added MIDI information on top of the played take MIDI track?
Also, If I have multiple MIDI takes and select the one take I want to export, I get all the takes in the export. How do I only export the selected take and not have to delete all my takes?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I will ask my question on another way. How guys are you using the punch in/out mode ? tell me the context and the options selected for this.
For me it is made for replace a part of a recording that you don't like and repeat that until you get te right take.
I've rea the manual but I don't find what I want to do.
Image you record 4 measures and you don't like the 2 last measures. You want to replace it. It's what I want to do. For me I thought you could put the cycle mode on over the 4 measures and put the punch in/out mode on the 2 last measures with the replace button activated. That's doesnt work. After I've tried the same method with selecting the take folder option in the project record option. But I can't heard the 4 measures in the loop. I just heard the 2 last measures that are between the punch in/out selectors.
    Could you help me please?
    Thanks

  • ITunes no longer recognizes midi files how can I play and convert them?

iTunes 10.3 recognised midi files, I could "move" them to the iTunes library and select them. then click on "Advanced" and "Convert to AAC" (or to MP3 etc).
iTunes 10.5 will not recognise midi files.
I think an older version of GarageBand could also read and convert midi files, but this no longer appears to be the case either in the latest version.
How can I now convet midi files? Has Apple decided to simply ignore them?

Thanks to Limnos, I now have some further things to try, but in the meantime I found I had been maligning GarageBand 11. Indeed its built-in Help system doesn't seem to mention Midi files at all, but I found out how to insert them from Apple's on-line support system at http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2009 and it works superbly well - one can even change the instruments on individual channels etc and then save the lot as an AAC (m4a) or mp3 etc file.
I also loaded up an old version of iTunes, version 10.3, which still recognises Midi files and can convert them to AAC or mp3 but in so doing some volume seems to be lost.
But the winner so far for me has been Audacity, free software. One needs to add a LAME encoder for mp3 output, I installed Soundflower and routed the playback of the midi file available in the Finder (in fact for the whole machine, while playing the midi file) and declared Soundflower as the input for Audacity. I could then use Audacity's effects menu to increase the volume throughout the track and save it. I then, using the Sound preferences of the machine, switched back to the inbuilt speakers and was able to listen to a higher volume version, playable in iTunes 10.5. More faithful to the original midi file than the GarageBand version.
See instructions at http://ask.brothersoft.com/tags/convert-midi-to-mp3/ and in particular one of the links http://ask.brothersoft.com/how-to-convert-a-midi-to-a-mp3-using-audacity-26125.h tml
This is for Windows but for Mac it's very similar/ - still Audacity. BUT the instructions in the last link don't seem to quite work, which is why I had to use Soundflower. I can import the midi file, I can select it, but then the export item on the file menu remains greyed out and unuseable, so I must presumably be missing some plug-in. Also Audacity keeps telling me it can't find various ffmpeg files even though I thought I had installed them correctly. I'm obviously missing something here, but at least I can now get my midi files into aac or mp3 format again at last.
For Soundflower see http://cycling74.com/soundflower-landing-page/ and http://kineme.net/forum/General/soundflowerforlion
and there is a useful tutorial by Nowjobless on YouTube at
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3FGOIW08gA&feature=related
Good luck to anyone else facing the same problems, it remains to be seen how to "convert" midi files to mp3 in Audacity without recourse to Soundflower.

  • Logic Express, Reason 4 and a MacBook Pro.

I'm looking to get a MacBook Pro (15" @ 2.4 Ghz C2D) and have been writing in Reason 4 pretty exclusively on our current project. In the past I was using Cubase SX2, Reason and a PCI Audio card. So, I'm looking to find a Intel Compatible audio application and most likely not going to get the latest version of Cubase SX (or whatever it's called now). Nice application but I'm ready to move to something else.
A couple of questions... Will logic work nicely with the MBPro? Is the 15.4" screen tolerable with Logic Express? I'll still have the Dual 1.8 G5 w/ 4 GB of memory but wan to try and be totally portable. Also, for a simple two channel input how is the quality on the 1/8" jack? Should I look for a nice 2 channel input/output USB audio card?
That is all my questions for now.
    Thanks.
    Bill

I may have mispoke - I need to be able to transfer pictures from my Samsung phone to my Macbook Pro - I have had them talk with the bluetooth but that only worked once. I would like to be able to use a cord and have the Macbook recognize the phone - how do I do that?

  • Should i use Logic Express for Mixing and Mastering?

recording an LP with GarageBand. are express and pro very close in what they offer ? express good enough for mixing and matering an LP? would like to keeps costs down. thanks SJM

It can be done, but you will need to do a lot of reading and make many mixes to get it down. Mastering is not something you can learn overnight. It'll take you many hours of trial and error just to get something that is OK. A pro mastering engineer has years of experience and thousands of dollars worth of high quality gear. With a lot of practice, you can get something fairly decent, but it won't be like a real pro job would be.
As Hangtime suggested in the GB forum, do a google search and you'll get a lot of sites with articles on the subject of mixing and mastering.

  • $5 Starbucks card to first successful answer: how to import midi timecode into Logic Express 9 from Roland VS-880 or Ensoniq ASR-10

I will literally mail a $5 Starbucks card or gift $5 via paypal to the first person whose response gets me success.  Then after all responses are provided and I'm successful with my issue, I'll also raffle off $5 to one of ALL respondents by random pick.
    Problem/question:
I can't figure out how to import midi timecode data from either an Ensoniq ASR-10 or Roland VS-880 Vxpanded into Logic Express 9, so I can then use Logic Express 9 as the master.  No manuals seem to explain that; I just can't find it.
    Background/basics:
    1.  My ultimate goal will be to move all midi data from the Ensoniq ASR-10 floppies and all digital audio files from the VS-880 into Logic Express 9.  Once the midi timing is imported into a Logic Express 9 file, I'll import the data from the Ensoniq & Roland via steps 2a & 2b below.
1a.  Ten years ago I somehow (am in the process of re-learning what I did 10 years ago) imported the midi timing into the Roland VS-880 Vxpanded from the ASR-10, and then used the VS-880 as the Master to control the ASR-10.   So my current status is that I use the Roland VS-880 as the master, and the Ensoniq ASR-10 as the slave.
    2.  FYI for anyone who might be in the same boat, wanting to transfer stuff from an Ensoniq ASR-10 and Roland VS-880 to the computer:
2a.  I will import all midi sequence data from my ASR-10 floppy disks via a utility purchased here, which will all a PC to read Ensoniq-formatted disks, and then just hopefully cut/paste midi files into Logic Express 9 (FYI only):  www.chickensys.com
2b.  Then will import all the individual WAV files from my Roland VS-880 to Logic Express 9 using a method learned here (FYI only): http://www.vsplanet.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=985974&PHP SESSID=b1d2f57be4a1d37d49787400213b22df
2c.  I'll then combine them all into Logic Express 9.
So - how the heck do I capture/import the midi timecode into Logic from either the roland or ensoniq using midi?
I'm don't think that cutting/pasting the midi data into a Logic Express 9 sequence file (step 2a above) will do that, because there are all kinds of tempo & time signature changes in the midi files unfortunately.
    THANK YOU and Merry Christmas!!
    Andy

OK doesn't look possible.  Closing discussion.

  • Logic Express 7.2 don't start, always hangs!

    Hi,
Logic Express 7.2 and the newest GarageBand is not working with my dual 2.7 G5. Even after the migration from my dual 2.5 G5 to this computer, these apps are not running. Before on my dual 2.5 G5 I also had no luck to get these apps to work. Restart won't help, now I quit every application and always tried to start these apps, because I thought of an application conflict. But this doesn't help. Next I treid the steps provided by some users here in the forum - like deleting plist, dupliate loops and index folders. Nothing worked. Seems the apps always hang at the CoreAudio init. Someone have a advice for me?
    Thx,
    Marty

I had the same problem. You have an expired software synth, demo software, unsupported VST or AU or something that is causing Core Audio to not load. The offending file should be in library/application support/logic - clear out REX Shared Library, Rewire, or any third party, i.e. Native Instruments etc. software support files.
I'm not sure what was causing the hang for me as I removed a bunch of this stuff at the same time but Logic and Garageband came back after some spring cleaning.
Be patient and thorough and you'll figure it out.

  • Problem importing Garageband songs into Logic  Express

Hi I have spent around 4 hours looking for an answer to this problem so hopefully it has'nt been answered before apolgies if it has.
I am trying to import a Garageband Song into Logic Express (7.1) it appears to import it to Logic but when finished it reads file corrupt not a Logic File.
I followed the tutorial opened the GB song and followed the instructions on how to import but I cant import it to Logic without the above message coming up.
    Any ideas?
I'm using a MacBook Pro with 10.4.9 on it.Logic is version 7.1 (Is there a known bug when importing?)
Thank you if you can help.
    KB.

    Hi KB,
    Welcome to the forum!
    the answer is within your question;
your machine needs the universal Logic express (7.2)
and your GB's probably GB 3.
That's the reason you can open the files.
If you bought version 7 "new"(from the reseler)
ask for version 7.2, as you can't buy crossgrade anymore.
(until logic sells a new one)
"You just bought diesel and your machine's not run on it"
rule number 1: You should Allways look for system requirements and software versions compability!

  • Found 2 Logic Express in Applications

i just noticed there are two logic express in my applications folders, one is Logic Express and the other one is Logic Express 9.0.1. Can I safely put Logic Express in the trash?
    thanks.

When updating Logic, the installer renames the old version and leaves it in your Applications folder as a backup if you need it. The latest updated version is name Logic Express.
You can can delete the file Logic Express 9.0.1 safely.

  • Recording Reason's Midi to Logic

Ok so this is complicated as I have no heard or seen anything about this I have searched countless times on google using different terms, etc and haven't found anything to similar to what I'm trying to achieve. I'm running Logic Pro 9, I have succesfully rewired reason into it. I had started a song in reason but I wan't to update the song and bring everything into logic and do not want to record audio as I want the freedom of midi so I can tweak the instruments.
What I want to do is for Logic to receive the midi data from reason and record what reason is playing. So I have a track armed to record in Logic that's rewired to a bass midi track in reason. I would like to be able to hit record and then it records midi note for note from reason into logics timeline. Make sense? Is this even possible?
Honestly my last resort is to export midi out from reason because when I do that it combines the multiple layers for one instrument as one instrument in logic which is not what I want.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your posts.
To say exactly what I am trying to do:- I currently have a song in logic express and I'm not happy with the drums at all. I would therefore like to completely disregard the current drum part and "experiment" with Redrum in Logic Express to try and create a new drum part.
Since I want to experiment, I am thinking that the more that is brought into logic / the less done in Reason, the better. I would also like to bring in the drum parts - kick / snare etc... onto individual channels in LE so that they can be mixed separately in LE.
I still don't fully understand what is / is not possible in LE. For example, to bring the kick / snare in on different channels - can this be achieved by having one Redrum in the rack or should there be multiple? Logic Ex. 7.1 also does not support stereo rewire objects - but I'm sure this can be overcome by creating L + R channels. I am sure the Logic Ex 7.2 update has the stereo option.
I followed the instructions (thank you very much for spending the time to post them) but when I got to Point 8. there was no option to select Redrum - it just had my midi controller listed?! (Remote 61) - I will try it again later - I think I'm going mad!
I have to say....I think that people should get a good understanding of basic features / procedures before jumping into Logic Pro but I am thinking that I'd be a lot further forward if I had Pro because at least I would know that I had all possible features and could follow many posts/instructions in this forum and if things didn't work....it's definitely my fault! ... and not due to the fact that it may have to be done a 'bit differently' because it's Express.....
Need to carry on trying here - still can only generate sound from my midi controller with other devices eg, subtractor etc...and not redrum.
    Thanks again for your post....
    All the best,
    Rachel

  • Logic Express + Korg microKONTROL

I have recently got back into using Logic Express after purchasing it about a year or so ago and I'm now having problems with getting my microkontrol MIDI controller to work with it. I have read the manual thoroughly and it seems to be in a different language to me.
I'm not even sure of what MIDI device/port settings I'm supposed to select when going through the process of the Logic Setup Assistant. I can't find the right information in the documentation I have.
Is anyone able to help with how I might be able to hear the notes that I play and/or record MIDI in Logic Express ? I would greatly appreciate some help. I'm not too concerned with controlling automation or controlling many parameter just yet. I just want to play my synths.
Failing that, if there is anyone who is London-based and kind enough to show me how this works ? (I will pay).
    Cheers!
