MIDI freezes Mavericks on MBP13 mid2010

Greetings! Ok, so this started after installing Mavericks on my MBP13" mid-10, any attempt of cofiguring MIDI(either Audio/MIDIconfig. or by starting any DAW of choice) results in "the spinning beachball of death" followed by a necessary forced quit by me. After several clean installations and multiple attempts to look for corrupt cashes or prefs. safe startup, change of account etc. I can´t but realize that either this is som weird behaviour in Mavericks or maybe my computer is not simply up for it. Or is it me? Can anyone confirm this or help out in any way?  Regards, Jonas.

All other accounts are logged in (iCloud, iTunes, App store)
I'm surprised that so many people have similar and related issue, but Apple never acknowledges nor posts with an actual fix.
I wiped my 2009 macbook and started with a fresh Mavericks install via the Internet.
The first action I did was to set up iMessage, and low and behold it doesn't work.
    iMessage Registration
Apple needs more information to complete your iMessage registration. Please call AppleCare in your country (listed below) and provide them with the following validation code: XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
What's odd however is that my MacBook Pro running works correctly. As does my iPhone 5S and iPad Mini.
I'm waiting on Apple phone support now for 15 minutes for help.

    Hi,
    There is this Error Message:-
The only way to Fix this is to Call Apple Support.
You seem to have a very similar message with a very similar instruction.
You will need to follow the instructions.
The one in the Pic  is telling you there is an Error on the account used on the Mac with the iMessages server.
We know it does not effect other iCloud/Apple ID logins with the same ID one the same Mac or on other Devices when used with iMessages.
We also know that it cannot be fixed by the End User on their own computer.
Going on from there we also know that since the Update for OS X 10.8.2 the iMessages login on the Mac has required the Serial Number to be present.
This allows the Login to be machine specific on the iMessages server.
The Pic error message highlights the fact it is specific to the Mac and it's info and the interaction with the iMessages server.
Make it very clear it is an Account problem you are reporting as not all Support Staff know about the issue and will try to say it is either Software or Hardware related and charge you for sorting it.
Ask for a Level 2 person if you have any difficulties.

  • How do I run Extended Apple Hardware Test imac 21.5 mid-2010 mavericks

How do I run Extended Apple Hardware Test imac 21.5 mid-2010 mavericks?  I have tried to start my computer holding down the "D" key but my iMac simply just restarts as normal.
I have checked the list of iMacs that can be upgraded to do an internet Extended Apple Hardware Test and I do not have one of those computers.
I cannot find any solution as yet.
I do not have the start up disks or the usb disks.

You can't run the hardware test without the installation discs.
Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity

  • MacBook Air (Mid 2013/Mavericks) - Freezes, requires hard restart

    11-inch, Mid 2013 MacBook Air.
Upgraded to OS X Mavericks in December 2013 - have downloaded every fix/patch as prompted by the App Store.
Relatively simple use pattern - word processing and web work. No bootcamp or 3rd party software, out side of Mozila products (that I am aware of).
Aproximately once every 12 hours (regardless of continuous use), the entire computer freezes. It does not take input from any input devices/including external keyboard and mouse (which I normally do not use). The only way to fix this is a hard-restart.
I have previously suffered from sleep/wake crashes, this is a new sympton of purpose the same problem?
Getting anxious as I approach my final exams - which are written on computers.  Apple - which specifically targets students and technologically unsavvy customers - has created a faulty product, unfit for the purpose for which it was sold.
Any suggestions on fixing or mitigating this problem?
My only thoughts have been a link to RAM use? I don't usually browse flash-websites or keep more than one word processing window open at once.!
    Many Thanks!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) on the advice of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Sweet Midi Player + Mavericks

I would like to buy Sweet Midi player but there is a note at App Store:
"This version currently doen't work with Mavericks...We hope that the next update of Mavericks will solve the problem."
Does Mavericks 10.9.3 solves issues with this piece of software???
    Thanks!

10.9.3 is still Mavericks it still means the same thing.
Have you visited the site like it says in the App Store, the version outside the store may work with 10.9?

  • Finder freezes maverick must restart over and over

Since the upgrade to maverick my finder and every thing else will freeze and the whirligig wont stop turning .
I am at my wits end having to force restart every five minutes. I use this for work and I can't afford to waste so much time rebooting that takes 5 minutes.
The force quit window also freezes so nothing gets quit and have to restart.
I don't know if all the restarts is damaging but today I must have 100 times.
Does anyone know what to do to fix this? It should not happen. I had to post this using my phone .....

    Hello,
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.
    Or,,,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Mac mini server Mid 2011 Maverick upgrade problem

Help needed I have a mac mini server mid 2011
    2x500gb hard drives
Hard Drive one is Macintosh HD
Hard Drive Two is Server HD
I upgraded to mavericks osx onto drive one Macintosh HD
I went to upgrade os x server for mavericks and it went to install on hard drive one Macintosh HD not the Server HD
So I formated both drives which partition map scheme is GUID Partition Table on both drives.
I done a new Install of Mavericks on drive one Macintosh HD that works fine
I downloaded OS X Server again and it is installing on hard drive one Macintosh HD and not Server HD
and it will not give me an option to Install on the Server HD.
I have also looked in the system preferances Startup disk and now I have a question mark showing.
When I open it it only shows Macintosh HD and NOT the Server HD
    Can someone please advise
I'm not bad on computers but this has stuped me.
Iif anyone can help please can you explain in easy terms if there is any.
    Thank you

Server.app will install on the same disk OS X resides on.
What I think you are seeking here is to have the server data on the other disk, and that is configured via Server.app, once you have Server.app installed.  Launch Server.app and select the server name at the top of the left column and then go to the Settings on the right side, and select where you want the service data there.

  • Midi hang / freeze

I was wondering if anyone have similar problems: I experience some problems with MS 3.0.2. I have a new 13 inch MBP 2.4/i5/8gb/ram.
I am using Nexus 2, EZKeyz grand piano and Omnisphere.
Sometimes midi freeze / hang occurs. The CPU is typical around 60%, and the RAM usage between 60-70%.
When this happens, the sound freezes, and there is no midi respons. Until suddenly, the lost tones and midi are playing all at once. Along with the frozen audio on full PA speaker...And then everything is back in business again.. I think the guys I am playing with is just about to kill me. So I would really much appreciate some help.
I got a feeling that trigging the freezed tone fast several times has an effect to overcome the hangup. It is almost like a stucked pipe. After some pressure, the water suddenly breaks thru..
A patch often contains a couple of Nexus 2 and one Omnisphere. Buffer size is 256.
Why do I experience this? Do I have to be more gentle on ram-usage? Is 60% cpu just to much? Are the plugs to heavy in some secret way?
    Thanks,
    Sir AM

We're having the same issue.  We use two instances of Mainstage in our live worship setting.  We have a Yamaha digital piano for one and an Akai MPK series midi controller on the other.  The biggest issue is with the one on the Yamaha, but it is running a lot more stuff (Omnisphere and various plugins).
It generally freezes randomly and just hangs on the note.  Releasing keys, pedals, pressing new keys, nothing fixes it.  The spacebar is the only thing that will fix it, and it is an abrupt release that really kills the moment.  It's not a set time frame that it freezes for, it usually freezes until you press the space bar.  I think sometimes it will release itself after a minute or so, but it's not a quick glitch.  I'll run the Activity Monitor alongside it next time, in hopes that I can capture some data.

  • Mavericks 10.9.5 VPN Cisco IPSec stopped working. Please help.

    Macbook Pro mid 2012
    Mavericks 10.9.5

    Xcode 6.0.1
I use VPN to connect to Cisco IPSec.
This used to work fine. Two days ago I noticed it stopped working.
Over the few days before I installed Server and used some services, but switched them off after using.
I used the DNS service and automated xcode build, but all switched off.
When trying to connect to Cisco IPSec VPN I now get some kind of timeout, with the following in my log:

Any suggestions on what I could possibly have broken and how to fix it? I need this VPN connection for work.

A guess, but could this be an issue with changed permissions somehow? Something seems to stop the password popup to show. And then authentication fails.

  • How do I mount a flash drive in Mavericks?

My iMac - 20", mid-2007, Mavericks 10.9.2 - does not recognize a flash drive when it's inserted into the USB port.  The drive is functional and has been recently formatted w/ the FAT file system and tested on a Windows 7 laptop.  Disk Utility on the iMac also fails to see the drive.  Any suggestions?

Have you tried all the USB ports? Other devices?
Does it show up in the System Information display under USB section?
Hold down Option key and select System Information from the Apple menu.

  • Installing old wireless keyboard drivers on a new bootcamp?

I wanted to share an experience of keyboard problems with windows 7 and bootcamp, and then ask a question about bootcamp on my soon-to-arrive shiny new iMac.
Current machine: Core 2 duo 24" iMac mid 2007; Mavericks; bootcamp created with version 3.0, but then upgraded for Windows 7
Yesterday did an upgrade install from Vista to Windows 7 and installed the latest bootcamp version 4 drivers.  (this was a 32 bit not 64 bit setup - since the Vista I upgraded from was 32 bit).
I then had driver problems with my 2007 vintage wireless keyboard...  The keyboard would work for a moment or two, but then stop.  It was still paired, but nothing you typed showed up in Windows.  (It worked fine in OSX of course...)
Eventually after huge amounts of googling some page gave me the idea of changing the driver for the keyboard.
If you go to Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Human interface devices -> Apple Keyboard then right click and select "Update Driver Software",  then select "Browse my computer", then select "Let me pick", you get a list of all the driver versions that have ever been installed on your computer for that peripheral.  Because I had started out with a Bootcamp 3 installation, which I'd then updated, the version 3.0.0.0 apple keyboard driver was still in the list of available drivers.  Selected that, and bingo, the keyboard worked perfectly.
Only issue is, I've just bought a nice new iMac (arrives next week) and I can't see how I can get the version 3 keyboard driver onto it's boot camp.  I want to set boot camp up from scratch, so that I can have 64 bit windows running.  But if I do that Boot Camp Assistant 5 will install the very latest drivers, presumably including an apple keyboard driver that doesn't like my old wireless keyboard.  And while the bootcamp 4 and subsequent driver sets include separate .exe files for different things (including the keyboard), the 3.x drivers were just a single executable.  And if you try to run it on top of a more recent set of drivers, it just tells you it isn't needed and stops.
Question: Any idea how I can install the 3.0.0.0 keyboard driver on a brand new iMac with Bootcamp 5.0 set up?
(For various reasons I've ordered my new mac with the wired keyboard, but I might still sometimes want to use it with my old wireless one).

It depends on which version of LP9 you own.....
If you don't already own an earlier version you cannot buy Logic Pro 9 any longer from Apple.. It is discontinued....
If you do own an earlier version then...
App Store version? Just sign into the Mac App Store... using the same Apple ID you used to purchase Logic in the first place...and Logic Pro 9 will be found under the Purchase Tab for you to click on and download..
DVD Version? Install via DVDs .... If you don't have a DVD player in your Mac you will need to purchase an external one.... or use another Mac which has a DVD drive using Remote Disk
DVD or CD sharing: Using Remote Disc
    Install....
Do not run Logic but instead....
Update to 9.1.8 via this link....
    Logic Pro 9.1.8
    Now launch Logic....

  • Kernel_Task High CPU Usage (300%) and Fan Speed - On Battery and Plugged In

    Hi Everyone,
Came here to ask for help given my bad situation with MBA 13 Mid-2013 (Mavericks 10.9.2). Yesterday I`ve opened my MBA and it was very laggy and sluggish, and I could hear the fan going crazy on speed. After opening Activity Monitor, Kernel_Task was consuming 300% of CPU in average... I suspect that may be related to recently installed CleanMyMac2, after performing a series of cleaning tasks to save space on my MBA (couldn`t say I wasn`t  afraid of doing it). But this situation came a week after the cleaning above, so it`s kind of confusing. Last app I've downloaded was OneNote from AppStore. Two days later the problem started out.
I`ve checked in a lot of discussions on this kernel situation, but none was like mine. The majority had relation with the Mac being on battery; after plugged in everything worked. In my case it happens both ways, on A/C and on battery. Tried the resets but no success at all. Also tried to boot in safe mode, but somehow didn`t work for me in Mavericks.
I`m desperate to find a solution but it`s kinda hard to find it. That`s why I`m asking for your help! Thanks a lot!!!

  • What does 'My Passport for Mac' back-up?  Does it include my Word documents for example?

If I lost everything, would My Passport be able to reinstate my MacBook Pro in it's entirety?
It does not look like it contains much; therefore I am worried.
I have lots of data on my mbp, namely, Family Tree Maker software (from Ancestry.co.uk).  It contains all my tree data, and lots and lots of Microsoft Word word-processed documents, eg, vast type-ups of Wills etc.  They take ages to translate and I would hate to lose them.  I also have lots of saved info downloaded from the net, e.g., photos and census stuff.  Whilst I can see the FTM.app, I cannot open to see whats inside.  I have 2 Trees on my software, but I can't see if they are in there for me to re-open from My Passport.
If my whole mbp is in My Passport, I can't see it.
If all the above are backed-up, if I change as much as a DoB on a Word document, will that document then be backed-up with the changes?
Quite basic questions for you Apple folk, but the answers would help me and others a great deal.
    Thank you.  Helen
My machine is: mbp, mid-2010; Mavericks. Version OS X 10.9.5.

Depends on the backup software you use, what backup strategy you implement, and what you need to backup. Where you will start at this point also depends on what you may have already backed up to the Passport and if you are using the pre-installed Passport software.
If you want every change you make to a document instantly backed up to the Passport, then you need the right software to do that (if it exists.) If you wish to use Time Machine that is part of OS X, then it backs up every hour but does not instantly backup a changed file. You would have to repartition and reformat the Passport in order to use Time Machine. Also, for Time Machine to work properly your Passport must be at least twice the capacity of your computer's drive. If is isn't, then you will have to decide upon a different type of software and backup strategy.

  • Network macbook pro 10.9.4 to macbook 10.6.8 - how?

I have just bought a new MacBook Pro (mid-2014) Mavericks OS X 10.9.4. Until now I have been using a MacBook (early 2008) Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8. I want to keep my MacBook 10.6.8 and link it to my new computer. I don't want to migrate anything. I want to make a clean start on the MacBook Pro 10.9.4, but I want to access the information on my MacBook 10.6.8 - sometimes in entirety to leave on my MacBook Pro 10.9.4, and sometimes ad hoc or as required.
I would like to access the MacBook 10.6.8 with iCloud but to do so I would need to instal OS X Lion 10.7.5. However, I do not want to lose the functionality of OS X 10.6.8 by installing 10.7.5 over it.
I proposed to create a partition on my MacBook OS X 10.6.8 to run OS X Lion 10.7.5, but I know now that Apple will not give me a license to run two operating systems on the one computer. If there is not a work around to share information between the computers via iCloud, how do I link the two computers via a home wireless network, and, if that is not possible, how do I use Ethernet or USB to extract my programs (apps) and files from my MacBook to use them on my new MacBook Pro.

Thanks for the idea but I've fiddled around for hours. I don't know which password applies to which process. I don't whether my password should be for my internet connection, the server (whatever that is), or the password for my computer. I haven't found any clear steps to explain what might better be explained in sequential steps. And, oh Heaven, some pictures or someone from Apple might help.

  • In boot camp I do not arrive to download windows 7 ISO in my pen drive

When I launch boot camp he recognizes my pen drive and start to download : then stops asking if I agree to download just windows 7 since is the only one supported for my Mac. I answer Yes but after few seconds appear that sign: "Impossibile installare il software perche' non e' attualmente disponibile dal server di aggiornamento software." The translation is: "Impossible to install that software because actually is not available in server for updating software". The meaning is "software actually not available in server "  I did try again many times in 3 days and I did also try to change the pen drive, but the answer was alwais the same. Please help!
