MIDI / Game Port w

I bought an Audigy Z2S Platinum card around Christmas time, and I'm just now trying to use the MIDI interface with my Roland EP-90. I'm unable to get any MIDI input or output at all.
I found the "MIDI - General Information and Essential Troubleshooting" guide in the KnowledgeBase, and I'm not able to get the SoundFont Bank Manager to play along with a MIDI file playing from the Creative Media Source. If I'm reading correctly, my MIDI source should be Sound Blaster Audigy MIDI Port [XXXX] (as opposed to MIDI Port 2) since I'm using the game port. (Though I did try both). The KnowledgeBase article references a configuration item I can't seem to locate on my PC:
Control Panel -> AudioHQ -> Keyboard -- I only have 'Device Controls' and 'EAX Configuration' -- though I'm not sure if this Keyboard option should be the same as the SoundFont Bank Manager.
Every other function of the sound card I've tested is fully functional, I've triple-checked that all my inputs are on and not muted, and that the MIDI Port was consistent between Windows and the applications, etc. Anyone ideas what else I might try? Thanks in advance.

Since the MIDI data is a sort of control data only, it's all the same which MIDI port are you using for to connect the keyboard controller into your PC. If your motheboard do have a MIDI port then just use it. Otherwise, you need to buy a USB MIDI Interface to get the keyboard hooked.
USB MIDI Interfaces are not very expensi've - street prices starts from around $40US.

Also, it's possible that you keep the Audigy plugged and use it's MIDI controller only (disable the card itself (and it's IEEE394 controller if there is one) through Device Manager and left the Game/MIDI Controller into use.

  • No Midi-Game port on the X-FI sound ca

Before buying any of the "X-FI Sound Cards" I've noticed that the X-FI sound cards do not have a Midi-Game Port on the card itself. My current sound card "Audigy 2" does has one.
How is one to use these sound cards with a midi keyboard without buying extra devices, such as the X-Fi I/O Dri've?Is there a way to use the mainboard game port via X-FI sound card? Has this ever been tried?
    Thanks!

  • MIDI/Game p

What type of adapter/converter do I need in order to use a round-type MIDI cable with the rectangular MIDI port on SoundBlaster cards?

    Sth,
If you are trying to connect a midi cable to your gameport then I am positi've that this is the adaptor to use. This is taken directly from the product description:
"The MIDI adapter allows you to connect a MIDI keyboard to your Sound Blaster?'s MIDI/Game port. It provides standard MIDI input, MIDI output and joystick connectors. Add a MIDI sequencer or sampler application (sold separately) and you are ready for a serious jam session!"
This is the cable that I used to connect my Midi keyboard to my Li've! card (this is prior to upgrading to an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum which has the midi ports on the platinum dri've).

  • MS-6178 and MIDI via onboard game-port

    Two questions:
    1) Does anyone out there have experiences with sending/receiving MIDI-messages via the game-port of this motherboard. All audio-functions are on-board (Ac'97, Soundmax driver). Manual says it's possible, but I've never succeeded in using the gameport as a midi-device. The best thing i've ever get out of it was some kind of distorted midi-activity which caused a lot of errors...
There is nothing wrong with the drivers. No hardware-conflicts whatsoever. Midi-function activated in Bios...
    Isn't it Soundblaster-compatible?
    2) Suppose I disable the onboard audio in the MS-6178 (via Bios and jumper on Mobo): do I disable then the gameport too or should it work independently ?
    Thanks,

    Try the patch from here
You can disable the gameport independantly of the soundcard.

  • SB 16 Game Port Resource Confl

    Hello,
I know this card is kind of an antique, and I am planning on getting something new (like an Audigy), but this problem has been bugging me and I am looking for an answer.
I have an old Sound Blaster 6 PCI card. I am trying to set it up with my MIDI keyboard and Cakewalk sequencing software, but no matter what I've tried, I still have an annoying resrouce conflict in Control Panel.
I suspect that there is a problem with the I/O assignements (since this is what is seems to be the problem in Device Manager), but the card is unable to find any good ones, despite the fact that I've tried to assign some different ones under "Properties" in Device Manager.
I am running Windows XP (Service Pack 2). My motherboard is an Abit NF-7. It does have onboard sound, but I've disabled it in the BIOS. I've downloaded new drivers for the SB card, uninstalled and reinstalled the card several times, and updated BIOS files. I have even moved the card to different PCI slots, as was suggested in one of the other messages I read.
I have looked under "Resources by Type" in Device Manager, and have not found my Creative Game Port listed at all. It is listed under Device Manager.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Again, I recognize that it's time for me to upgrade this card anyway, but I'm hesitant to do that for fear of having the same sort of problem with the new card.
    Thanks!

Well, I got the Auidgy 2 ZS today and the resource conflict is gone.

  • Game Port Error: This device cannot start. (Code

I recently did a PC rebuild and have a fresh install of XP SP2. When trying to play with a gamepad that worked just fine before the reinstall of XP, it shows the game port as not working.
Sure enough, Device Manager shows a problem with the game port.
I uninstalled the game port and reinstalled it to no avail.
This is the error the properties of the game port has listed:
This device cannot start. (Code 0)
Anyone have any idea how to fix this - I saw several posts in this forum from some time ago with no answers.
    Thanks in advance!

What kind of reinmstall did you perform?  If you used the recovery media, then this will be pretty simple. Boot to the recovewry media again and this time select the Reinstall drivers and applications option. Find the audio driver on the list of available drivers, put a tick in the box to its left and then click on the install button in the lower right hand corner of the window. The driver will be installed.  Your list will be different than the following one, but this is only an example.

  • Midi in port

I do not the info object for the MIDI IN port with a call such as this:
    MidiDevice.Info[] midiDeviceInfos = MidiSystem.getMidiDeviceInfo();
I am using Sound blaster live, Windows 98 second edition.
Note, I do get the OUT port: "SB Live! MIDI Out [10E0]" and syntheziers etc etc
Is this a bug or should I try to access the midi IN port in some other way?
I know my midi in port works because I can run my ordinary music program with it.
The call MidiSystem.getTransmitter(); does not yield the midi in port either.

The midi in port did not work properly so they just took it away (without updating their documentation. . .). See bugg report 4306928 "broken".
That the mid-in does not work seems to be a fatal flaw in JMF: It is reported in bug 4354651 which is a duplicate of 4423930.
However I have also found bug reports 4204354 and 4353646 which seems to adress
the same bug and I guess there could be more bug reports out there because of
the basic need of a midi-in port.
Does anyone out there know how we can make Sun collect all related bugs and THEIR VOTES
    into one bug report?
Perhaps more votes will make Sun address this important function - it has stopped my
ideas of a small application - I NEED A WORKING MIDI IN!!
Do not know of any third party alternatives - where are they?

    Hi all
raven i asked a question like this a while back and came to the conclusion that usb game devices would be my best bet.
i also have a sblive!! 1024 or something and thought about using it for the game port because im also happy with the onboard sound and dont want to use the sb for sound but as yet i haven't tried it mainly because i dont wanna confuse the system but im sure it can be done without annoying anything just haven't got round to it.
if it works ok let me know as i dont realy need to fork out for a new racing wheel and flight stick usb style ;(
    good luck :D

  • MSI 420 PRO game port

Anybody able to get onboard game port to support joysticks. Using Nvidia Unified driver pack for XP. Running XP Prof. with 512 mem. Device manager reports joystick port as standard game port with Microsoft driver 5.0.0.0 This board is suppose to be a gamming platform. Is there Nvidia drivers for this board. Only way to get game port to work is install a card with game port on it, then everthing works fine.

    Hi Guys
It seems as you answered my questions about the  N420 gameport.
It should work with analog joysticks!
ender868 , Have you ever experienced any calibration problems when using the analog joystick you describe ?
Mike H , did you ever got your mainboard gameport working ?
I cant use my Precision Pro (1) joystick on the gameport as  XP only support USB "drivers" for this old joystick and there is no MS Precision Pro (1) SW  working in XP.
But this joystick works fine on the USB port with the XP default USB "drivers".

  • Server, game port on vista ultim

I have vista ultimate and cannot create a server on a game that I play over the internet. Is there anything I can do? I have been told it is because vista doesnt support a game port.Message Edited by Dirtnap0 on 05-2-2008 05:52 PM

it should have nothing to do with a game port. either check windows firewall. disable it via services. or allow the game u want to play. if u have any other firewall software installed check that also,
and if u are on a router. u may have to log in to allow the ports?

  • Game port on km2m

i have a km2m mainboard, and i need to connect  my joystick, but this don't have a game port. anyone knows how to put this one?

I would suggest either getting a USB joystick, or adding a PCI soundcard with a gameport on it.
