Midi in using Alesis IO Doc for Garage Band

I have audio in GB on iPad2 and the Alesis IO dock and would like to use the midi in to at least start and stop my song. Will GB understand a midi clock in? If so how can it be told to recognize it. I'm told it supports core midi but it wont do midi out for instance so what does "support" core midi mean? Will it do midi in? Can someone suggest an app that will play a stereo audio file and let me use either midi in or out on the Alesis IO Dock to synch midi clock to my outboard synths?

Yes. There are a ton of write-ups on how to do the connections. I connect my m-audio Keystation 61 es through the CCK to my iPad and use GarageBand to control it. Some keyboards require a powered USB hub to make things work. I use a belkin 4 port hub in my own setup. Minimum Processor for Garage Band 3

Hello Happy New Year!
I have a G5 1.8 that I use as my main computer, and use Final Cut, and Garage Band a lot of the time.
I also have a small sound studio in my basement, and would like to get another back-up computer to also use Garage Band, and Pro Tools.
The Apple minumum requirement for the installation of iLife 06 is a Power Mac G4 733 Mhz processor.
With this information, I'm leaning toward buying an 800 mhz, 933mhz, or even 1 Gig mhz Power Mac G4. Do you guys think I should shoot for no less than a 1 Gig Processor to be on the safe side? I'm also trying to safe a little money too.

Yes well, I'd like to use the 2nd computer (with Garage Band), to record voice-overs. Say about 10-15 minutes of dialogue at any one time on a single Garage Band track. I don't intend to do any multi-tracking musical scores, but definitely some voice-overs.
What do you think:
Say at least a 1 Gig Processor, and 1 Gig Minimum Ram?

I have received notification of an update for Garage Band, a program that I will never use. How do I deleat this notification of the update?

The obvious way to resolve this on a computer would be to uninstall the app, then reinstall it, however on an iOS device that would cause all the data assoicated with the app to be thrown away.
Make sure your iTunes library has the latest updates for all your apps, then backup and restore the device. This should pull back a fresh copy of the app from your iTunes library and then give it the data from your device backup.

How to get full sound library for Garage Band

I recently purchased the upgrade for Garage Band on my 06 iMac. I received a huge library of sounds with the upgrade. However, two days later, we had a power spike and I lost that computer. So - I bought a New MacBook Pro Retna with the latest version of Garage Band on it, however, it is missing what seems likes hundreds of real instrument sounds. Any suggestions? Can't seem to find a way to downlod all thode extra great sounds like strings and sound FX.

What kind of upgrade did you buy? Jam Packs for GarageBand, like "Symphony Orchestra"? They are not included in the preinstalled version that comes with a new mac.

Are loops missing or instruments? If loops are missing, do they appear to greyed out in the loop browser? If they are greyed out, have you pressed the little arrow to the right of the loop name, to download the additional content?
To be able to download the additional content, you have to accept the preinstalled iLife to your AppleID at the AppStore. Sign into the AppStore, go to the "Purchased" tab - "Accept" section, and press the "Accept" button for your iLife apps.

How to contact Apple for Garage Band iPad bugs?

I looked around a little bit, but couldn't find a place to report Garage Band bugs or contact Apple support for Garage Band iPad. I wanted to notify Apple of the problem that bluetooth audio output in Garage Band does not work. (Yes I am aware of the latency, however, this would still appear to be a bug in Garage Band if a user has explicitly set audio output to bluetooth. Not all applications fo Garage Band require zero latency.)

Try this: Go to your menu bar, select "Garageband" and then "Restore Sound Library..."
It can take awhile to download as it's a pretty big library. You might need to also select "Update Sound Library..." after the restore is done.

How do I use my computer keyboard instead of a MIDI keyboard to enter notes? In Garage Band I simply go to View - musical typing but there is no such prompt in Logic Pro 7.

Ihave always used my Logic Pro 7 program with a MIDI keyboard for note entry. I do not presently have a MIDI keyboard and wish to use my computer keyboard for note entry. I know this is possible but cannot recall the command to set that up. Can anyone refresh my memory? I know that on Garageband on just need to go to view - musical typing but that is not the command in Logic Pro.

Alesis DM5 Module and Garage Band

I have an Alesis DM5 Module that I use with my electronic drum kit and would like to get it to talk to GB. I have purchased an M-Audio MIDIsport Uno MIDI-USB Interface but when I plug it in GB does not even respond when I hit any of my drums. What do I need to do to get open communication between my DM5 and GB?

I wound up returning the m-audio device, 1) because the driver disc that came with it didn't even work, so I wound up going to the website to download the driver, 2) even with the driver in Garage Band saw it but wouldn't let me use it. So I just decided to get my money back. Well at the store, a guy was in from Canada and he said the same thing you said to me Mr. Drosser. Anyway, I've also decided that since I'm not all that stoked about the 40 acoustic drum sounds and then the 460+ weird techno (I got it as a gift for Christmas) and will pick up the Alesis Trigger IO and Toontrack's Superior Drummer 2.0. So I owe you both an apology for wasting your time trying to help me with something that I am no longer trying to do. Sorry.

Recording questions for garage band

Hi I thank you in advance for your help, advice or direction in assisting me correct my lack of knowledge.
I recently purchased a macbook and it came with garageband and frankly I love this program!!
I am having a little trouble though with my vocals, I am using a behringer eurorack (the small one) to phantom power my condenser mic and it's plugged directly into my macbook using the typical rca jack. I seem to be getting sort of some distorted really deep vocals out of this. Like instead of recording my energy it's more drowned out kinda layered below the beat. I am not sure what setting I should use for my mixer and the computer. I keep my lows, mids, and hi's kinda half way up on the mixer, my gain is all the way down and my mic output level is a few notches up maybe four bars or so. On garage band I have the mic volume set up almost as high as it can go. Any idea on how I can try to get my mic to sound as normal as possible? Levels you can recommend perhaps..

Then we've ruled out the chance that you were still recording with your internal mic (it happens more often than you'd think!)
I would suggest turning up the mids and highs if the tone is too deep. Also you should have your gain as high as you can get it without clipping (i.e. before the signal goes into your computer)

How can I export midi to pro tools from my iPad garage band

I'd like to take songs I've written in midi on the iPad garage band, export the midi files to my PC which uses pro tools 10 so I can work on them more there, and use the score creator...here is why, when I sit around and write a song on iPad, I'm using virtual instruments, I'd like to be able to first, have more power..ie pro tools..to mix the tracks, then also be able to print sheet music from the midi so I can recreate the midi tracks with real instruments, when I'm writing the stuff with midi on garage band, it's I can't remember what I played where by the time I've moved the midi notes around a little etc etc..and I'd like the actual recording to be real instruments not virtual, as I want a very professional sounding recording.. Any ideas?

If the folders were created in the Photos app on the iPad, they don't really contain copies of the photos. They contain pointers to those photos that allow them to appear in the albums that you create. Consequently, they cannot be imported to the computer. Those albums are for local organization on the iPad only And cannot be imported.
You should be able to select the indicidual phots that you want to import, as far as I know. I can do it on a Mac using iPhoto or Image Capture, so I assume that Windows will allow you to pick and choose which photos you want to import.

Computer Interface (That works) for Garage band?

Hello All...I am new to G/B-I am wanting to record (sperate) tracks (at the same time) in G/B. I think 8 channels would be perfect, that way I can record varoius drums, a bass and a guitar at the same time. Then I can record other real instruments later, one at a time. I have seen a slew of computer interfaces to acomplish this task, however i would like to purchase one that (I know) (will work) well in garage band. Could any of you vetren G/B producers advise me as to what 8 channel audio interface you use with G/B (that works well) for you? And should it be a firewire or USB based one? I tried a friends (a 8 channel Behringer mixer with a USB, but i could get my mac to recongnize the mixer?
