MIDI keyboard not recognized

I have just installed a Yamaha PSR-GX 76 keyboard, along with the most recent driver. I have plugged in the USB connection and it does not appear that the computer, or at least Garageband is recognizing the keyboard. How do I test this and what do I do to make this work?
Norm

Im having the same issuse with my microKORG.
But I do know if Garage Band is recognizing your keyboard the blue dot will flash in the blue display panel when you press a key.

  • Oxygen 8 keyboard not recognized

    Hi!
I have borrowed an Oxygen 8 keyboard from a friend to use in Garageband 3 on my iBook.
Under system profiler it seems to be recognised - it says that there is a vend_device attached. However, the keyboard is not recognized in System Preferences and when I open GB preferencesI only have the Built-In Audio option.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

when I open GB preferencesI only have the Built-In Audio option.
Which is as it should be, a MIDI keyboard is not an audio device.
What you should see is a dialogBox that says "1 MIDI Device Detected" when you open GB.
The first thing I would check is your Audio MIDI Setup utility
Next thing I would wonder is if you need to have a driver for this keyboard. You should search the web site of the manufacturer to see if there is one.

  • MIDI interface not recognized after Mavericks install

    Hi,
I was using a Midisport UNO with OSX 10.6, connecting my keyboard with the Mac Pro and using programs such as Live and Garageband. After the Mavericks install, I have a bunch of obsoleted hardware. I understand that Midisport have not come up with a driver to support Mavericks just yet. But that is not my issue.
Today, I purchased a new MIDI interface, one that is class compliant and so requires no driver software. According to everything that I have read, from external literature to the interface's literature, the device should work just fine. But my Mac Pro doesn't recognize the device in the Audio and MIDI Setup utility. In fact, it recognizes the Midisport UNO just fine but that device is greyed out and I guess this means there is no correct driver.
I have noticed that the Mac Pro seems to turn off ports when supplying power to USB devices. Sometimes, the front USB ports will not connect my iPhone to iTunes, for example. When I restart, the power sometimes returns. So is this a power issue or does my connectivity problem lie with the MIDI interface?
    Thank you

I just purchased a new iMac running Mavericks. I have an M-Audio Keystation 49e, I have the same issue. It won't work or be recognized in adui/midi setup. It is there, just greyed out. I have searched everywhere for a fix. All you find is delete this, delete that. It worked fine on Mountain Lion, now it is useless to me. I have tried running it through a hub, doesn't fix the issue. I use power as opposed to just the USB, doesn't fix the issue. Can someone please point us in the right direction so we don't have to go spend more money on a midi keyboard because of Mavericks?

  • Keyboard not recognized by computer.  Instructed to go to settings but can't since I can't key in my password

My wireless keyboard is not recognized by my computer.  I changed the batteries to make sure that wasn't the problem.  According to online help (via my iPad), I need to update settings so that keyboard is recognized (via wifi).  The problem is that I can't get to the setting since I can't key in (via the keyboard) my password!  It worked before....not sure why it is no longer recognized.

    Hi Keyboard less,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are having trouble setting up your bluetooth wireless keyboard with your iMac. There is a great article that shows how to set up the keyboard via bluetooth on your iMac.
Bluetooth: How to set up your Apple Wireless Keyboard
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1809
Press and release the On/Off switch to turn on your wireless keyboard.
The green LED should begin blinking if the keyboard is not already paired and connected to another computer. The blinking LED indicates that the keyboard is in the discoverable mode. If you don't pair your keyboard with your Mac within three minutes, the indicator light and keyboard will turn off to preserve battery life. If this happens, press the On/Off switch to turn your keyboard on again. Note: If the LED doesn't turn on, make sure you have good batteries in the keyboard and that they are properly installed.
On the computer you wish to pair the keyboard with, choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Keyboard from the View menu.
Click “Set Up Bluetooth Keyboard ...” in the lower-right corner to open Bluetooth Setup Assistant.
Select your wireless keyboard, then follow the onscreen instructions to pair it with your Mac. You will be asked asked to enter an 8 digit passkey.  Important: You MUST press Return after you enter the 8 digit code.
Note: You need to enter the 8-digit code and press Return within a certain timeframe or the process will time out. If this happens, repeat the pairing process from step 1.
    I hope this helps,

  • Wireless mouse and keyboard not recognized

I know that I have had this issue before, but can't remember what the solution is (old age?) My iMac G5 PPC has a wireless mouse and keyboard (the old apple white one). The iMac came with these as an option but WITHOUT the bluetooth card inside. (I still don't know how this works, but it does). Anyway, the mouse and keyboard were not recognized when I tried to get on today. The batteries are good. If I go to system prefs (using an even older wired mouse) there is no bluetooth option (since no card is present). I don't know how to get the computer to try to recognize both. Any help is definitely appreciated.

    HI David,
If the iMac didn't come with Bluetooth software/hardware, then are you using a USB Bluetooth dongle?
    And open System Profile (Applications/Utilities)
Select Bluetooth on the left under Hardware. You may need to click the gray disclosure triangle so it faces down. What does it say on the right?
If the Bluetooth icon is in your Status Menu Bar (top right in your screen). Click the icon and make sure Bluetooth is turned on. Then click: Open Bluetooth Preferences and try re-pairing the mouse and keyboard.

  • White Wireless keyboard not recognized

I have a white wireless keyboard that is no longer recognized as a keyboard by my MBP. Bluetooth is working on my MBP (can pair with other devices) and clearly the keyboard is able to send data as the set up assistant can "see" the keyboard under the any device option, but it is listed as "apple wireless keyboard unknown type device).
This all began after a battery change. Many options have been tried to resolve, not successful so far. Are there others having this same trouble where the keyboard is recognized but as an unknown type?

  • MIDI Keyboard Not Working With Logic Pro X

I have a MIDI keyboard that I've had for a while. I've upgraded to Logic Pro X, but the keyboard isn't working. I can't hear sound when I play it, nor when I record and try to play it back to myself. What's more frustrating is that I used this keyboard all of the time with Garageband, and there were no issues . It's a simple M-Audio DigiCore MIDI keyboard, and I've updated everything, but I just can't get it to play. I am new to this software, so I'm having a really difficult time navigating this as well, so any help is welcome.

Ok here's what happened, controller was working fine everything set up, then it quit. called tech help at sweetwater, the motu was not seen as a midi interface anymore...went to motus web site, downloaded update for 10.4.4 THAT WAS IT! now it works!
    Take note....thanks for your replies!

  • USB MIDI keyboard not working

    Hi everyone,
I recently upgraded to a Macbook (White) and I haven't been able to get my MIDI keyboard to work with it. It's a Novation Remote 25 LE, and all of the documentation for it claims it is fully USB compliant and does not need any drivers to function. Well, that doesn't seem to be the case. I used the USB drivers for OS X that Novation has on their site to no avail.
The catch is, it worked flawlessly on my old 12" Powerbook without drivers. Comparing the two configurations, I notice that using the Audio MIDI Setup program under utilities the Remote LE shows up, but has no ports assigned to it, nor can I add any, while it has "Remote LE" listed under port on my old Powerbook. Anyone have an idea how I can get this up and running? Thanks in advance!

There's another user with a very similar issue to yours. It makes me think that Leopard is the problem here--unless you had Leopard installed on your PowerBook?

  • Wireless keyboard not recognized

Every time I restart since installing Yosemite, the wireless keyboard is not recognized.  It takes several minutes for the keyboard to be found and then I must enter a code before it is recognized.  The batteries are new.  How do I get the keyboard to automatically load?

    Try resetting the PRAM.

  • Apple keyboard not recognized while installing WinXP

I posted my WinXP Pro installation problems earlier in this forum but I think having recognized the problem: When Bootcamp boots the machine from the WinXP-CD, it seems that my USB-keyboard (tried both: aluminium and old white plastic) is not recognized, meaning that I cannot input anything to tell the Win installer to proceed. The symptom I see is that the green light of the caps lock key is not there. This probably means that the keyboard is not connected as it should be. Could it be that this is due to the OS 10.5.6 Update? On earlier machines and with earlier versions of Leopard I did not have this problem.
    Please advise.

Same here until my partner provided her usual keen insight - use a Windows keyboard!
Until you have completed the WinXP installation and then re-inserted your OS X/Mac Install CD 1, Windows can only establish comms with a Windows-specific keyboard, not a Mac-specific keyboard. The Win USB Mac-keyboard drivers contained in Boot Camp are not installed until you start up the OS X/Mac Install CD 1....
Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 worked for me (~£20). Will probably continue using this when running WinXP for any extended period; saves having to learn new key combinations.
BTW: I found that once WinXP was installed, downloading and installing the drivers contained in Boot Camp 2.1 from the Apple website greatly improved both control (eg Nvidia driver) and responsiveness of WinXP.
Hope you (all) find this useful; thanks are due entirely to my partner, bless her.

  • Keyboard not recognized in USB hub after 10.6.3 update

After updating to 10.6.3 (using combo updater) the keys on my Apple extended keyboard that shipped with my 24" iMac (2008) no longer work when the keyboard is connected through my Belkin powered USB hub. But oddly enough, the wireless mouse that is connected to the keyboard does work. So the keyboard is recognized and connected properly, but the keys don't work! It's definitely a software thing.
I don't have enough free USB ports on the back of my iMac to dedicate to my keyboard. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same problem. I found I can unplug the keyboard and when replugged, everything works OK.
I just upgraded to OS V10.6.4 and still must unplug and replug the keyboard in order to type.
    WHY?

  • Evolution MK-361 Midi keyboard not recognised

I have an Evolution MK-361 Midi keyboard. With all of my other Windows based computers it is recognised immediately and I have used it really successfully with Sonar rewired to Reason. On my MacBook Pro running Lion it just doesn't get recognised. I have tried patches from Kext and M-Audio nothing works.
    Anyone out there with ideas?

I've got an M-Audio controller (sorry but I'm at work and I don't think I have the model number with me) that goes between my Evolution MK-361 and my Mac Mini. It works great with Garage Band. I haven't tried it with any other apps. Probably part of the reason is that I don't play it enough to get good at keyboard so I haven't had a reason/need/other to use another app with it. I'll set something up with Siri to remind me to find out the model number when I get home tonight.

  • Why is my MIDI keyboard not showing up in 'MIDI inputs detected'?

Neither of my MIDI keyboards show up in 'MIDI inputs detected' in Garageband for my iMac. They both work in my older macbook, and the USB inputs in my iMac work fine for external hard drives and keyboards. The iMac even powers them, lighting the screen on the keyboard, but fails to recognise it in Garageband. Please help.

  • USB Midi Controller not recognized by Mac?

    hey there
I have just attempted to plug in my trusty Edirol PCR300 to my mac for the first time. It currently works on my PC
I installed the 2.0.0 driver as per instructions on Edirol website, rebooted, plugged in and turned on the device.
The device is recognized in the system profiler (about this mac etc etc Hardware > USB) however it is nowhere to be found on the midi page of the Audio Midi Utility. One would expect it to turn up here when i press Rescan Midi.... and needless to see it's not turning up in Logic and nor is it an input option on the PCR Editor software.
Obviously i've tried turning it off and back on etc etc.
Running the latest Lion, latest Logic and latest Edirol driver on a Macbook Pro i7 with 8GB RAM.
Any help would be appreciated, i've been trying to get this working for 4 hours now!

    Hi Guys
I have a PCR connected up here, running OSX.7.3, it works fine:
It does need drivers, as discussed in my earlier post.
The OP's issue is probably down to incorrect driver installation, or possible some conflict with other MIDI drivers. If the OP has not solved the problem, I suggest using the Edirol driver removal software, and then re-installing the drivers.
(Always assuming that the keyboard does work OK on another computer, and that the cable is OK).
