Midi Latency with G4 1.25 Mhz, 2 GB Ram, GB 9, Leopard

Recently upgraded to Leopard/Ilife 09... I'm getting intolerably midi latency with an external midi controller, motu 828 firewire midi/digital audio interface, recording a GB software instrument. This system worked cherry with 04/Tiger. Is the new GB/Leopard so heavy with all the Intel support that it cannot even run on my good old G4 PowerPC?
We're talking single track, no other apps, internal drive... should I not expect this HW to have enough cycles for this? Apple advertises complete GB 09 ( other than "lessons" ) support for this system. Seems like something is very wrong...

garage band simply will not run properly on this hardware w/ leopard.

  • Hey everybody. Do you know if i can run os x server on macbook pro mid 2012 with i5 2.5 GH, 4Gb RAM and OS X 10.8.4?

I recently saw that for os x server apple says that you can run it on inexpensive hardware like mac pro, imac and mac mini. It doesn't say anything about notebooks. So if i buy os x server will i be able to run it on my macbook pro mid 2012 with i5 2.5 GH, 4 Gb RAM and 10.8.4?
    Thanks.

  • Very high latency on my MBP 3,1 (mid 2007) with airport extreme card 0x168C

    Hi
I wanted to let you know that i filled a bug report concerning a problem involving a MacBookPro3,1 and my airport extreme card (AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x87) Firmware Version 1.4.16.2)
If you've got any feedback, please feel free to share it with me.
    Here's the bug report:
    Hello
I'm experiencing very high latency on my MBP when connected using Wi-Fi in my living room and I believe this is a software bug.
This is the trace of my ping test to my router (5m from me):

(PC: Win XP SP3 with Linksys Wi-Fi card)
Obviously, my Mac has very high latency where my PC works as expected.
I tried resetting the PRAM, but i didn't affect my results.
I tried updating Airport with the latest AirPort Client Update (http://support.apple.com/downloads/AirPortClient_Update_for_MacBook_and_MacBookPro), but my hardware wasn't eligible for that update (Mid 2007 MacBookPro).
I believe this isn't a hardware bug because i get acceptable ping results when next to my router or in other rooms of my flat.
Can you help me with that bug ?
    Regards,
    Laurent

  • Latency  with MacBook Pro

I just ordered an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz MacBook Pro as well as Logic Express. I don't plan on buying a separate audio interface, I want to use just the laptop on it's own. I will only be using software instruments, no external recording.
Will I be able to achieve low audio latency with the built in MBP audio, like below 15 ms latency, when I hit a key on my midi controller (Oxygen 8)?
    Thanks for any help.
    Bob

I surely think it will be less than 12ms (somewhere between 4ms-8ms is decent). Now, all macbooks have digital optical out, if you have an optical input in your mixer when touring use that, it will improve performance of the Virtual instruments. I own a MacBook white (coreduo), I have used it in live recording thru its internal sound inputs at 24bit and it worked great, recorded at a buffer size of 64k. These new intel cpu's is the best thing that happened to apple corp. You will benefit from the new cpu architechture, 4MB cache is unreal, and don't forget those two cores at 2.33 Mhz. BTW, my macmini 1.66 core duo w/ 2GB ram kicks &$%$. I can't imagine how great yours will be, let us know when you try it.

A friend bought second hand macbook air mid 2011 with crossed circle on the display and give to me to try to recover the system, I tried recovery from partition and same thing occured, after internet recovery it stays the same-crossed circle after reboot, then we tried to boot from USB with mac os 10.8 on it, it installs something, like it has being finishing installation, rebootes, and now it asks for password for boot option. We have no idea what that password could be.What happened!!!

  • MIDI Latency

I recently purchased an M-Audio 4x4 Midisport Interface. This solved a problem I was having in terms of MIDI output with a MOTU interface. But depending on the sequence of events, such as putting my iMac to sleep then waking it later or turning my MIDI keyboard on before starting Logic Express 9, the port my keyboard is connected to goes a bit whacky. Play a note, hear it a second to five seconds later. If I move my midi input cable to a different input port everything is okay but the affected port will not be reset until I disconnect the USB cable and reconnect or perform a cold boot. Disconnect and reconnecting the USB cable is easy enough but I was wondering if anyone else discovered a similar issue and if so a more permanent solution. Once the interface is reset, everything is okay. There are other situations that cause the latency but generally it occurs as a result of keyboard (musical keyboard that is) activity when Logic is not running. When the M-Audio is reset and Logic is running, I typically have no problem during my sessions.
I am running OS X (10.6.3) on an iMac with 4GB memory, dual core Intel processor. My MIDI controller is a Yamaha P-80 Electronic Piano connected to the MIDI sport 4x4.

Do you have any mastering plugins on your final outputs 1 & 2? If so, you might want to bypass these for now as they effect latency of the "realtime" audio path. It's important to only use them for mixing and not recording.

  • Midi latency on main stage 3

MY PITCHBEND  AND MOD WHEEL HAS A MIDI LATENCY WHEN USING MAIN STAGE 3
    WHAT SHOULD  I DO?
KEYS : M-AUDIO KEYSTATION 88 WITH USB MIDI UNO INTERFACE

Have you tried connecting via USB instead of the Uno? If so, did you get the same result?

  • Adjustint Midi latency

I know this has been asked a million times but despite RTFM and looking through the discussions I still can't make head nor tail of this:
I'm running LP8 via a 003 Rack, I've just gotten back into improvising on the piano and thought I was going mad when all my riffs sounded late (I was convinced I was really out of practice!) To do a comparison, I played some stuff live using my piano (NI's Akoustik Piano and also one of the EXS24 ones) then super-imposed my stage piano's (which I use as a midi keyboard) internal piano patch over the top by wearing ipod earphones and my studio headphones together and was surprised to hear (but relieved I'm not that out of practice!) a massive amount of latency in my Logic/NI pianos. I can't give an accurate time as I can measure it but it feels around about a 1/2 second...
Now the manual talks about PDC but from what I read this regarding plugin delay, rather than Midi delay? I've tweaked some settings around, such as reducing the buffer from 1024 to 256 samples, but still I have this Midi latency.
My piano (Roland RD 700SX) has two modes of Midi transmission: MIDI and USB, both have the same amount of latency when playing back a Logic-based piano.
Is there anything else I can try, as I can't really improvise with this level of latency! Any questions please ask....
    Cheers,
    Ben

  • Terrible midi latency XP via Bootcamp

    Hi eveybody,
Don't know if someone could help but this issue is driving me nut
I'm running XP on my Imac via bootcamp and I'm using a Motu 828 MkII Firewire audio interface to produce music in Ableton Live.
Problem is that I've have a terrible midi latency when trying to use my midi keyboard (that is directly connected to the Motu soundcard). Don't have the same problem when I use this configuration on OSX Leopard but I need to use Windows plugins for some collaboration works... I've already tried to update the soundcard driver but problem stills there!
Is there someone who have experimented the same issue?
    I need help!
    Thanks a lot.

but would the assistant be inlcuded in the 2.1 update....?
shall i download anything from apple website...?
or just use what came with my macbook??
I don't really know. I did this 2 years ago - DL'd bootcamp beta, followed the instructions and in about an hour was loading apps. I can't believe it's any harder now. All it does is set up a separate partition so that you can dual boot windows.
im not using the latest leopard version...im on the one but last....
music software always has issues with updates...
Don't see why that would matter.
if i choose to make a 30gb partition, i cant make it bigger later? probably not but 30 should be plenty.
    NTFS or fat?
XP likes ntfs but mac can only read nfts, not write to it. I keep all my data on external drives split between fat32 and osx. That way I can easily move files back and forth. Frankly I wouldn't bother otherwise. Since my projects are usually around 35 audio tracks throughput is never an issue.
would macbook be able to access data files on windows partition?
    Only Fat 32.
would windows xp be able to access files on the mac side?
Windows cannot read a mac partition, in fact, the mac partition won't even show up in XP.
sorry sorry sorry.... this is all rather complicated....just reading the pdf manual for bootcamp......
It's not that bad, just be patient and take it one step at a time
    cheers!

I have a MBPro mid 2013 with 1 Thunderbolt port. Just bought a Mac monitor and want to daisy chain a PC monitor to it. Use a Mini DVI to VGA adapter from MBP to PC monitor. How do I daisy chain the 2 monitors?

    Hall Palm Desert,
if your Mac monitor has Thunderbolt ports, and the PC monitor is on the end of the daisy chain, then you might be able to do it by connecting your PC monitor’s VGA cable to a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter (e.g. Apple, NewerTech), connecting that cable’s Mini DisplayPort end to one of the Mac monitor’s Thunderbolt ports, and then connecting a Thunderbolt cable between the other port on the Mac monitor and your MacBook Pro.

It will not hurt it as long as you do not leave it on the charger for an extensive period of time (say, days).

Your answer is likely in Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Apple Support If you are familiar with this document, please re-read it and I suspect you may find something you either missed or are doing incorrectly.
