Midi ports line in ports Fire Wire etc on the Audigy 2 platinum, new Creative Driver for Vis

Hi, I have been using my Audigy 2 platinum dri've for a few years now and have been very pleased with it, the main things I do on my pc is music creation mainly Midi but also some analogue audio as well, I also do lots of video making. I am just about to build a new system with Vista ultimate as the platform, I currently use XP Pro. I have little use for Creative?s own software and personally I do not think it is that good, I know Creative have released a new driver for my sound card But, my question is will my Midi port connections and things like my line in and the auxiliary ports and the fire wire port on the front platinum panel work with this new driver, and without the Creative software installed on my pc, and as we all no by now it looks like we will not be seeing any at all, or not for ages yet. you see I am a wheelchair user and I can not readily fiddly about a the back of my pc that is why a bought the sound blaster so I can easily plug in and unplug what I like, can anyone give me some help or advice on this issue please. ??

Guess I wasn't clear enough. I have uninstalled the soundcard and reinstalled over a dozen times even going so far as making sure all the drivers that the device properties lists are really deleted from the system. I have resinstalled DirectX at least twice using the latest version from MS. The only thing I have not done with DirectX so far is installed the SDK version which I will be doing eventually anyway. I even uninstalled and then reinstalled my video card as it shared files with the sound card. As for getting the latest version of openAL I see little point in that as Windows forces openAL through DirectX anyway and none of my games use it. Nor does the device depend on it to work. Any other suggestions?

  • Fire wire 800 and the 24" imac

I'm strongly considering purchasing a 24" iMac. I see that a lot of people are having problems using their 800 port with external hard drives. I was wondering if anyone out there has had any success using it? The main reason that i'm buying the 24" instead of a smaller one is the 800 port. What do you guys thing...hold off until they fix it?

    Tom,
Have you verified that using both the FW 400 and 800 ports at the same time really gives you full speed on both ports on your imac? (Check the FW speed in "About this Mac" with both connected). The reason I ask is that when I have a FW800(only) drive plugged into my Powerbook G4,, I get FW 800 speed. However, when I plug in a FW device of any kind to the FW 400 port, both ports drop to FW 400 speed. I have a FW 400 cardbus adapter also, and even if I plug all FW 400 devices into the cardbus adapter, I still only get FW 400 speed out of the FW 800 port.
So I am curious if the ports on the new imac are actually independent (like they are on a Mac Pro), or if they continue to share one FW chip. I wish to have a Firewire audio interface connected to the FW 400 port and a fast hard drive connected to the FW 800 port and still get maximum performance out of each. Any further info 2ould be appreciated.

  • IPod Nano 4 Gb: Fire wire message on the display + no power off: need help

I have a new iPod 4Gb since a month until now not able to optimize the usage. The iPod keep on displaying the following message (after reset and update of the software):
"FireWire Connections are not supported. To transfer songs. Connect the USB cable provided. Press center to dismiss"
When I push the Dismiss buttom immidiatly the message pops up again. After reset at the PC site still the same.
Additional to this problem I can not swith the dam thing off. The Pause/Play buttom is not reacting. We use the iPod and Ipod shuffle in our Quality assurance test enviroment.
Start and stop a song is no problem.
      Windows 2000

I would make sure your PC doesn't have any viruses on it. Then bring your iPod in to the apple store to have them check it out. May be just a simple fix or you got a bad iPod. Doesn't happen that often but with any piece of hardware it can happen.

  • I need to get a new hard drive for my 13" mid-2009 MBP but the model number is worn off. Is there a place to find this?

My hard drive needs to be replaced and I am looking to do it myself. However, I am in need of the model number of my MacBook Pro. The issue with this is, it has been worn off. My MacBook Pro is a 13" Mid-2009 model.
    Thanks!

Any 2.5"dia, 9.5mm thick SATA HDD will be compatible.  Look at options here:

This video will show you how to install it:

    Ciao.

  • Is this a good choice for a new hard drive for a 13" mid-09 MBP?

1.0TB HGST Travelstar, 5400 RPM. Anyone had any experience w/ HGST? I only use this laptop for school & surfing.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/HGST/0J22413/

I have a couple of those and used them in my MBPs.  They work just fine.  HGST also has a 7200 rpm version which I also have had good results.  That theoretically should afford slightly faster performance.  You cannot go wrong with either one.
    Ciao.

  • HP Pavilion Elite m9040n Desktop and Fire Wire 1394

I have the above mentioned Desktop. It has a 1394 plugin on the front of case. Does the Pavilion come with all the software to make fire wire work? I backed up my hard drive onto an Toshiba external disk with a USB cable the other day and it took 6 hours. Isn't fire wire suppost to transfer data faster than a USB cable? Is there any special things I need to know when buying fire wire 1394.
I was looking on the internet the other day and they showed fire wire with 4 and 6 pins. Looking into the hole on my computer it only looks like 3 pins?
    Thanks

    Rick, welcome to the forum.
There is no software necessary for Firewire (IEEE 1394a).  The driver is installed with the OS.
Here is the Motherboard Specifictions page for the computer.  It only shows that there is a Firewire (IEEE 1394a) port (# 11) in the Back I/O ports.
Here is an article that shows the comparison of speed of Firewire vs USB.  Firewire was developed by Apple.
I hope this information answers your questions.

  • Fire Wire Error Message:

If anybody has been following my posts, I have been wanting and needing a fire wire enclosure for large hard drives. I only have one of each. A Fire Wire enclosure and a 3.5 PATA drive. A Maxtor 160gb. I have other hard drives and they are smaller, and have issues. Fortunately OS 9 is able to mount these damaged drives.
I am very happy to have a fire wire enclousre and also a new hard drive for my files. =] =] And I still have like a bunch of files to organize but the most important thing right now is to get all of these files off of three messed up hard drives.
I have one hard drive connected to a USB enclosure and the new 160gb one is connected to the Fire Wire enclosure. (It also has a USB 2.0 port but I am connecting it to Fire Wire) and I am running OS 9 while operating all the external hard drives.
As for the fire wire enclosure: I get an error message:
A FireWire disk has stopped responding. The problem must be corrected to prevent damaging the disk's contents.
Please check all FireWIre connections. If you added, removed, or turned on a FireWire device on or off, try undoing what you did.
And so I turn off the drive and turn it back on. It acts like nothing has happened to it. But certainly something bad is happening!!! =S
Also it has done this in the middle of transferring files and then I turn it off and on and then it resumes moving THE SAME file!!!!!!! =S
    ????????????????

Could the problem have been the USB-only enclosures??????? I have tried to get it to work a few minutes ago and it would not turn on. I gave up on it and I disconnected it. I am moving files from the damaged hard drives onto that imac's internal hard drive, and then onto the new hard drive ... all using the same fire wire enclosure. I have one so far and not two... and that is kinda frustrating. =S }=S }=S
Even though I have to keep switching hard drives with one fire wire enclosure, the fire wire enclosure transfer speed is now FAST!!!!!!!!
    =]

  • How do you hook up a fire wire video camera to the 13 inch aluminum macbook

I have a 13 inch mac book with only USB, but a video camera that only has a fire wire output jack.
How can I hook up the camera with fire wire out to the USB in on the new 13 inch MB?
Is there an accessory I can buy that will do this? Link to the product?
    Thanks!

There is no option/accessory to do this. You'll need to get a different camera, or use a computer with firewire.

  • Audigy platinum ex firewire port

We are having great difficulty using the firewire port on an audigy platinum ex. The audigy has worked very well for three years. The machine is an AMD Athlon 2GHz, AOpen m/board, Win XP with SP2.
We recently bought a LaCie d2 extreme 200GB triple interface HD. When connected to the port on the external audigy box, or to the port on the rear of the PCI card, this dri've is not recognosed by the computer. It does not appear as a HD in the hard disk section of the device manager, and we can see no evidence of a firewire client running, though the PCI OHCI Compliant IEEE394 Host Controller is installed and working. From this we conclude that the OS is set up for firewire devices, but that for some reason it is not being detected.
When we connect the LaCie dri've to a USB2 port on the machine, the device works fine; we can see the dri've, access it for directory & file lists, and read & write files to/from the dri've. We have also tried the LaCie on other machines fitted with USB2, with Win2000 & Win98 and it works fine. We therefore conclude that the LaCie does not have a fault itself. This hard dri've has its own power supply, and is not reliant on the power capabilities of either IEEE394 or USB2.
We have 'discussed' the matter with LaCie. They have asked us whether the IEEE394 port we are experiencing difficulty with is engineered only for DV, or whether it is engineered to be connected to mass storage device such as a hard dri've. We were unaware that ther were such differences with IEEE394, and we have no way of checking this; the Creative labs specification does not go into this detail.
Therefore, the questions we would like to pose to the community are as follows:
. Is this port known for certain to be engineered for the attachment of mass storage devices?
    2. Has any body actually attached a mass storage device to the external dri've box port or the port on the audigy PCI card?
    3. has anybody actually use da LaCie d2 extreme 200GB dri've on these ports?
    4. What set-up procedures were followed to get a LaCie to work?
Although we are 'newbie' status on this site we do have considerable experience of computers and computing going back to 966, and covering most types of machine that have been extant in the intervening period. This includews working with PC's since 983 and as systems engineers on Unix technical workstations. This problem does illustrate that no matter what ones experience level is, there is always something that can baffle, as this has done to us.
We'd like to thank in advance anybody who can contribute information to solve this problem, or indeed anybody who reads the posting and could point us in the right direction.
    Regards
    John Smith

I have been using a Maxtor One Touch external USB/Firewire hard dri've and a Canon digital camcorder on the Platinum Audigy Ex Firewire port for over a year with no problems except for the time the plug on the extension cable inadvertently got pulled out of the back of the Ex box when I moved some equipment around.
I am running Windows XP Professional SP2, and I upgraded to it after I started using the Audigy Platinum Ex Firewire port. No problems either before or after.

  • Fire wire target disk mode work with usb also?

    hi all,
does starting up in fire wire target disk mode also work with usb drives?

No, and it requires a Mac with built-in FireWire.

  • What fire  wire cable?

I want to attach a fire wire device to my new Mac mini. I can not find a cable with a connector that fits the little fire wire receptical on the Mac. The standard plug is 6 pin, the same as on my old FW800 Mac. So I bought a 6 pin to 4 pin, not right. The IEEE 1394 says there are 6 pin to 6 pin (which I have) , 6 pin to 4 pin, and 6 pin to 9 pin. Could the Mac have a 9 pin receptical?? I wouldn't ask but the cables are $8.00 each and the store won't take it back once it's ripped open.
    Thanks Bob

Bob, there is a brief description of the options on this page:

Face with the same problem I chose to buy an adapter. I use it everyday to connect my TM backup drive. This is the one:

  • IPod wont sync over fire wire

I have a 30gb Photo iPod and a 1.42 MHZ G4 mac mini. I plugged in the iPod over fire wire and then the iPod loaded the first time. The second time i plugged it in the iPod froze and would so did my computer until i unplugged it by force. Then i plugged it in using the USB 2.0 cable and it mounted perfectly. This is the only computer in my house with USB 2.0 and being there is only 2 USB slots, one for my keyboard and one for my mouse, I do not have the slots to spare. I have rebooted the computer and the ipod. The same thing happens when i plug it in over firewire, both freeze. I have iTunes 4.9 and iPod version 1.2.

I would recommend updating iTunes to 5.0. I've had issues in the past where my iPod was running newer software than iTunes and it caused issues.
