MIDI regions won't play back in Logic X

Suddenly my MIDI regions won't play back. I can hear the notes when when I play on my MIDI controller and when I mark the MIDI notes in the piano roll, but not when play it back in the arrange window. This worked fine the last time I opened the project.
- I have done a restart of all my equipment, computer and Logic.
- Nothing is muted - not the track or the regions.
- The MIDI in/out in the piano roll is ON.
- The channel strip setting is set to ON.
- This applies to all instruments.
- It works as usual for MIDI written using the pen tool, but not for MIDI played on the keyboard.
- MIDI channel are set to 1 (as seen in the event window).
- Instrument channel is set to "all".
Logic X 10.0.2
OSX 10.8.4
iMac early 2009
2.66 GHz Intel Core Duo
4 GB ram
SATA disc
M-Audio Fast Track Pro, with M-Audio Radium 49.
Does anyone know what could be wrong? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

See if this is the problem.
Is this an imported Logic 9 project file?
Check the track Inspector settings and see if you have any over the top values for some of the settings (like Delay)

  • Audio Instr records but does not play back in Logic Pro 9

Hi all.... recently upgraded from a PPC G5 to an iMac 27"" 2.8 GHz Intel i7 w/4GB mem. was running Logic 7.2,now Pro 9. Here's my prob. After opening an old session in LP9 and recording an audio instrmnt (no prob setting up trk or recording) the trk won't play back. However,I was able to drag the recorded region to another trk (set up w/same audio instrmnt) and it plays. Is there some possibility that when opening a Logic 7.2 session that LP9 sees an audio instrmnr trk as an "audio"trk instead? Since I'm relatively new please excuse any newbie faults. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Midi recording won't play when keyboard is off

Hello all! I thank you for answering my last beginner question. Now I have another for you.
I've gotten my Korg M1 to work by replacing the battery and downloading the factory sounds - not an easy task for a beginner. I've since tried to record from the keyboard onto Logic 8. I have the keyboard hooked up to an M-audio fast track pro and can hear the sounds through my headphones. Everything seems to be working but when I record a track (after choosing external midi device and choosing a channel from the fast track pro option in logic's library), it won't play back unless the keyboard is on. When I turn the keyboard back on, it plays back in the first sound from the sound menu (prob grand piano).
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

You need to use a Program Change message for each of the MIDI tracks that are playing your M1. Look at the Inspector at the left hand side of the Logic Arrange window and tick the box where it says 'Program', then choose the number of the program you want your M1 to play, so that this will be kept when you save your arrangement.
You'll need to take an audio output from the M1 back to your interface to record as an audio track (create/select an audio track, select the correct Inputs on your interface and arm it). You can mute MIDI tracks except for the one you want to record and record one track at a time that way.

  • Video clips won't play back after capture

I am a long-time user of Premiere Elements, currently using version 9.0. I am capturing video clips from the same videocamera that I've used in previous versions of PE. My video clips won't play back after I capture them. The clip is in my "media" area, but when I try to play it back, the audio plays but the picture remains frozen on the starting image. What is happening?

It is a Sony Handycam DCR-HC28, mini DV, using a firewire connection.
Operating System is Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3, system specs are SATA 2 RAID 1 with dual 1 TB hard drives. 4 GB RAM. As far as how fast my processor is, I looked on my invoice and it says, "Intel Core2 processor Q6600 (2.4 Ghz, 1066 FSB) with Quad Core technology and 8 MB cache, 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800 MHz.
I defragmented my hard drive before beginning and have 779 GB or 83 percent free space on hard drive.
I have not placed my video clips on the timeline yet so don't know if there is a red line on top, indicating it hasn't been rendered. I merely wanted to play back my clip to set "in" and "out" points. This has never happened before in my long history of using Premiere Elements. Would prefer not to have to go back to PE 8, as that was a disaster.

  • PPro CS4 won't play back

Suddenly video in Premiere Pro CS 4.0.0 for Mac won't play back from source window, program window, or timeline, except for an occasional playback of < 1 second. Scarily this was described by a bunch of users in a thread started two years ago. Only one solution was offered there, which didn't apply to my Mac.
I was involved in another thread on a related subject in this forum once before but that setup seemed connected to the use of a Dazzle Bridge for capturing. There's no such complication now...it's just not playing any video more than a few frames.
An editor who can't playback any video is in trouble, and after paying as much as I did for this program and a Mac Pro, it is disheartening. Any ideas out there?

I appreciate everyone's help but I'm afraid the situation has gone from bad to worse, since Premiere suddenly disappeared.
Yesterday, following one bit of forum advice, I tried using a separate user account labeled Premiere Pro and the program did play the files--though it wouldn't let me save the project file where it resided. Now, however, the program is nowhere to be found. I have the original installation disk but I have heard of problems arising from reinstallations.
To answer some other questions, I did try to download the latest update for PPro CS4. I am using PPro for Mac on a Mac Pro with a 10.5.8 OS. I can't say for certain exactly which version I "have" of PPro CS 4 since the update because the program has disappeared and is not turning up in the Finder anywhere, nor can I recall the exact wording of the error message saying I couldn't save my project as edited under the alternate user. The program and system worked fairly problem free for almost four years before the last few days. I use a variety of source footage, including .avi, .mov, .flv, .mp3, .wav.
One Snow Leopard user has recommended using a Root User account which doesn't seem to apply here. For example, he referred to a "Network Account  User" option that was supposed to appear in Accounts/Login Options but doesn't on my Leopard. Also, as per another user at Trafford College, I revised permissions to select Everyone...however since the program isn't appearing on my computer, there's no telling if that worked.
Community help is greatly appreciated--especially in light of one forum report of someone who was on the phone with Adobe for hours with this kind of problem but without getting it solved.

  • HDV4 in a .mov file won't play back using any software

    Issue:
I had 4 DVDs sent to me containing a bunch of .mov files that won't play back in any of the following apps:
QuickTime 7 Pro (includes Mpeg2 codec from Apple's Web site) - sends me to Apple.com's QT plugins page
Mpeg Streamclip - loads only some on batch import, but mostly displays white and plays the audio
HandBrake - Says not a valid source
VLC Player - error says that HDV4 files cannot be played
QuickTime Player - says format isn't a format that QT recognizes
I need to get this into a format usable by FCE.  I'm running the most up-to-date 10.6 Snow Leopard, and the last version of FCE.  How can I do this without losing my current version of iTunes or Final Cut Express?
    Vent:
As videographers gradually move to hard-drive based cameras, their ability to submit their footage becomes more and more difficult.  As a result, we get DVDs, flash drives, 64 GB memory sticks, and more.  It seems like each one uses a different file format, and every format is proprietary.  Where is a standards committee when you need one?  Where is the open-source format?

  • MIDI Regions turned shaded white - won't play back now.

Several of my MIDI regions in Logic became a shaded white color and don’t play. However, when clicking on a note in Logic’s piano roll, it plays!!!! Anyone help here?
Here’s what may have led up to it, earlier I was recording MIDI into Logic by playing my keyboard (a Motif ES). I had several tracks laid down - then I did something not too smart and pulled the USB cable out of my Motif ES while Logic was still running. I am fairly sure, but not convinced, that’s when they turned from the standard green to a white shaded color.
After reconnecting the USB cable, I’ve tried rebooting both the Motif and Mac but still not working. Also copied the MIDI regions to a new song - they are still whited out.
    Any suggestions here?
(I am using a MOTIF ES keyboard and Logic Pro 8.0.2)

That sounds like the regions got muted. Right-click the region and select Mute/Unmute. In my default keycommand setup it's the same as pressing the 'M' key.

  • Logic Pro 8 mutes newly recorded tracks and won't play back until reload...

Seems like this has happened within the last couple of months. When I record audio in Logic and try to play it back, it won't play the audio. The arrange window shows it is there and the regions do NOT show that they are muted (nor does the channel strip). In essence, it acts as if it is muted, but there are no signs that it is. (I even select the regions and mute then unmute them, and mute and unmute the channel strip, but nothing changes. Still no audio.)
So I have to close the project and reopen it. When I reopen it, every region in the previous recording session (audio) is greyed out (muted) in the arrange window. Once I select them and unmute them, they play back perfectly.
This is a very weird situation. Anybody have any ideas about what the issue is?
    Thank you!

A lot of people have reported this, and it happens to me pretty frequently. Gotta be a known bug, but of course since Apple is always mum about this stuff with absolutely no communication to its customers, we won't know until the next version of Logic is released.

  • Logic 8 won't play back audio recorded at 48 kHz

So I was recording a small project in Logic 8 on Snow Leopard (10.6.8) the other day when I noticed that audio recorded at 48 kHz wasn't playing back at all. The wave form appeared in the audio region after recording, but the meters on OUT 1-2 weren't lighting up at all. When I switched the project mode to 44.1 kHz, the audio played back fine (except it sounded pitched down and slow). I was in a hurry so I just recorded the whole project at 44.1 kHz instead, even though it should have been 48 kHz.
Any ideas on what could be causing this?

  • Spacebar is entering midi regions instead of playing my track

    Hey guys
I'm having a really strang problem and I can't figure out what happend. Everytime I try to play my track using the spacebar it doesn't work. It just enters a new empty midi region. I've looked at the Keycommands and just can't figure out what to do.
I've rebooted my system and still nothing!!!
Anybody knows what might be the problem?
    Cheers

You "looked at" you keycommands? And?
Here's a tip: in the keycommand window, make sure the list is highlighted (as in the pic). Then click the "Key" column header, then hit the spacebar: the first command assigned to it will be selected. Hit spacebar again and the next command assigned to it will be selected, etc. I believe by default the spacebar is assigned to two commands: Play or stop and Play/Stop Selection. If it is indeed also assigned to creating a region, then simply delete that assignment.
If it is not, then simply restarting Logic or even restarting your Mac might help.

  • Copied midi files won't play

Hey, I am new to this forum and I'm hoping someone can help me.
I opened up an old file that I created in Logic 5, and tried to copy some events from the session into a new Logic 8 window. The events appear grayed out (with their original colors around the edge), and with a small circle in the top left corner. It now won't play. I can still see the score/matrix, etc, but no signal is coming out, despite what instrument I select.
I took a screen grab of what I mean, and put it here.
    http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad266/logicmidiproblem/picture.jpg
Hope you can help me get the sounds back!

K, that sounds simple! This may sound dumb... but how do i do that? Like in the pic I grabbed, the mute button isn't selected/highlighted.

  • Burned CD's won't play back

    Hi All -
Burned several CD's in my on board superdrive on my G5. They play back in my computer, but not in my home stereo and not in my car? Why could this be.
Apple care says probably because my stereo cd player is old.... but that and my car that's 5 yrs old?

I had some problems with an "old" CD player that would not play the first track but if i skipped to the second (or third) track, the disc played fine. I could even "rewind" to the start of the disc and all tracks would play. Have you tried using another program to make CDs (Toast for example) or tried a copy from Finder?
    Regards,

  • Burned CDs won't play back

All of a sudden, the CDs I burn from Itunes do not play back. I thought it was just the CDs purchased from Itunes but it is all music from my library. I export the playlist & it burns but when I go to play it back, nothing. I have tried several stereos . . .
    Thanks for your help.

kmizzo, 3 things to check first:
    - Are you using CD-Rs? (Avoid CD-RWs since many stereos have trouble with them.)
    - In Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Burning, are you still set for "Audio CD"?
    - Can the burned CDs play back in iTunes on the same computer where you burned them?
By the way, what do you mean by "export the playlist"?

  • ITalk records, won't play back on 20g color iPod

However, it will transfer to iTunes and be played back there but not in the iPod. it starts to move to the "playback" page but returns to the "play/delete page.

The updater released 2005-09-23 does not include an update for iPod photo.
We're all still stuck with iPod v.1.2.
We shelled out the extra dough for colour screens and photo capabilities, and now are being left out in the cold?
Hey Apple, c'mon already! This is really annoying! We need to hear our memos when we're on the go, not only back in our office. Like directions, phone numbers, etc etc etc. It makes my Voice Recorder only half as useful! Wait, it's actually only a third as useful, according to my spreadsheet-based forward-averaging seasonally-adjusted logarithmic regression analysis.
I'll even give Steve Jobs a really hot stock tip! (Hint: AAPL)

  • DVD won't play back in bluray player

I just created a DVD in DVD SP, about 5 mins long with audio. It plays back beautifully on the computer, but my sony bluray player doesn't recognize it at all. I haven't tried on a standard DVD player, but I don't see how that would help. A previously made DVD plays fine on the player. Any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Shelley

    Dear Shawn,
Still no good. In a render last night, weirdly, even in my Mac the disk was unreadable and the warning said it was blank, but I rendered again and it works fine on the Mac. But on my SONY player, nothing.
I changed DVD SP to standard in the Preferences and re-created the project from scratch. I used the DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes setting with no changes. Here is the breakdown:
    Name: MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass
Description: Fits up to 90 minutes of video with Dolby Digital audio at 192 Kbps or 60 minutes with AIFF audio on a DVD-5
    File Extension: m2v
Estimated size: 2.79 GB/hour of source
    Type: MPEG-2 video elementary stream
              Usage:SD DVD
    Video Encoder
              Format: M2V
              Width and Height: Automatic
              Pixel aspect ratio: Default
              Crop: None
              Padding: None
              Frame rate: (100% of source)
              Frame Controls: Automatically selected: Off
              Start timecode from source
              Aspect ratio: Automatic
                        Selected 16:9
              Field dominance: Automatic
              Average bit rate: 6.2 (Mbps)
              2 Pass VBR enabled
                        Maximum bit rate: 7.7 (Mbps)
              High quality
              Best motion estimation
Closed GOP Size: 1/2 second, Structure: IBBP
              DVD Studio Pro meta-data enabled
I am at my wits' end. I have two weeks to get this done for a memorial for my late father so you see my desperation.
Do you have any possibilities left? I'd go ahead and sign up for the Pro classes at the Apple Store, but in NYC I'm afraid I wouldn't even get to see anyone in time for FCP and its suite.
    Thank you for any advice.
