MIDI settings

my midi is still not working with logic. i tryed resetting the midi drivers as well. how do i fix this? could it possibly be my interface?
thanks!

well... it seemed you had the answer, but now that I have recieved my interface (I was borrowing one before) , nothing... it doesn't seem to recognize it. Preferences...Midi... in Garage Band still says "0 midi devices detected"
when I look in Audio Midi setup as you suggested, I see "IAC Driver", and "network" I can create a new device, but I don't understand how I tell if it is being "seen"
stumped and frustrated.

  • Change default MIDI settings in Logic.

    Hi there,
Just bought Yamaha DTXplorer digitals drums. When I record the MIDI part in Logic Pro 8, it doesn’t play the right notes concerning BD, SN and so on. Is it possible to change the default MIDI settings in Logic so it fit to the Yamaha DTX – or other applications?
Thanks for your help – KGL.

There is not really any such thing as "default MIDI settings". Logic just gets the notes you play from your controller, and sends them to whatever other instruments you are using.
Does the DTX not use GM mapping? If not, I'd suggest you alter the notes it sends to be more suitable for your needs.
You can use Logic to remap notes in realtime (in a variety of ways, using environment transformers or mapped instruments) and this is the more flexible way of doing it, if you are comfortable with environment routing and so on.

  • Resetting midi settings upon restart?

When I come back to the system the next day and re-open a project, I notice I have to reset all my volume fader and reverb settings in the Logic mixer ... relating to my outboard multi timbral synth keyboard.
I seem to remember there was a way I could resend\reset all data with a single click...
I just can't what exactly that click was.
    Ben

    Ben,
Unfortunately what Juhani suggested doesn't seem to work as it's supposed to. There is an option under "Logic / Preferences / MIDI / Reset Message - Send Used Instrument Settings on Reset" that doesn't seem to reset anything but the currently selected track. There's another setting in "Project Settings / MIDI / Chase - Send full MIDI reset before chasing" which is also not a complete solution.
I'm assuming you want to set them to the Fader Values and what not that you have modified within your sequence.
Here's what you do... there are 2 necessary steps:
    1) In "Project Settings / MIDI / General - Miscellaneous" If you want Logic to be sure it recalls MIDI Track Volume, Pan and/or Program Change settings, check the "Used Instrument MIDI settings". You can also check the "All fader values" check box, but this setting as detailed in the Manual is specifically for Environment Fader values... and typically most people don't have MIDI Environment Faders.
    2) Click on one of your MIDI tracks in the Arrange... under the Track Parameters sections on the left Channel Strip view (inspector needs to be on) you should see a Program, Volume and Pan parameter with a check box next to each. Check the boxes of the settings you want recalled on each session open. You'll have to check these for each individual MIDI track. This is a pain for any older sequences, but do this is any of your Templates so the session will be ready to go up front.
Keep in mind checking these boxes does NOT "lock" these parameters down, like Automation. If you check the Volume box and move the MIDI volume fader you'll see that the Volume parameter changes in response to the Fader movement. Also, MIDI automation will take precedence as well. Overall this is a good thing, and checking these boxes only tells Logic to send the current Volume, Pan and Program Change, but does not say add a Volume entry in the MIDI info of the track.
It's probably only necessary to send these when the Project opens, which is why it's set up that way. But I've noticed that if you want to send a single set of Track Parameters after the session has loaded, for whatever reason, up & down arrow over the track in question and it should send out the parameters. As does the "Options / Send to MIDI / Used instrument MIDI Settings".
    Hope this helps...

  • No Sound, Tried the Midi Settings, checking volume, nothing works

    Hi,
I have checked the forums, and have tried all of the fixes that work for everyone else. My computer was put out pre-garage band, so it is not on this machine. I am using a Digidesign 002 for my sound, and it works with pro-tools, and I-Tunes, but not with internet. I make sure everything is set right, and that the digidesign sound manager is connected, but still nothing. I made sure 44.1 was set in my midi settings. Oddly, it only gives me "built in audio" as the option for system output. I have the 002 set for the default output.
    Thanks!

Check the DigiDesign Site for updates that match your OS and installed version of QuickTime.

  • Audio Midi settings

I want to play hi Res (24 bit/192 Khz) music files from Linn on my iMac but the midi settings are restricted to 24/96 - how do I change these or upgrade these? Not sure what the maximum midi setting is but seems to change with each OSX release.
    Regards,
    Chris.

denon released a firmware upgrade to fix the midi issue on 10.5.7, and they say it "should work fine" with snow leopard... and this http://www.denondj.com/assets/misc/HC4500Audio_Midisetup.pdf is their setup instructions for setting up the controller on mac.
in the traktor pro audio setup i only see 'front left, front right, front center, low frequency effects' i can't send the audio to separate decks on my mixer, which i should be able to do easily, as that's what the whole purpose of the controller is.
i had read somewhere to try and set up the denon as an aggregate device in the midi utility in order to be able to send audio to my 2 decks and that worked perfectly on 10.5.8, once i made the upgrade the aggregate settings were all messed up. i think i'm going to try and downgrade to leopard, i need it to work.
oh and traktor's forums are equally useless.

  • Applications Moving Midi Settings

Why do certian Application change the default midi settings creating no sound output until you change it back. Is there anyway I or the developer can insure the output goes back to it's default. And which is the best setting to choose when I return it-It keeps changing and I forget which setting to place it on. I usually go with the highest which bring back the sound. It is usually thrown off by VLC player.
    ImacG5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The normal setting is 44,100Hz, 16-bit. Any application that uses a different setting should change back when finished, but some don't.

  • Correct Audio Midi Settings?

I am using an external microphone (an ATR USB mic) to broadcast over Internet radio.  I am not sure all my settings are correct.  Here is the Audio Device window within Audio Midi:
What is M under channel?  Should the Thru box be checked on that line, and unchecked on the others?  What does Thru mean?
    Thanks.

The audio connection must be a digital connection. In all cases that I know of, this means an optical cable from your mac to the receiver."
That is what led me to believe HDMI-only might not have been adequate.
He was basically trying to make it clear that a digital audio connection is necessary. He wrote the blog entry at a time when the only digital bitstream output from a mac was the optical connection.
Also, is all of this setup/installing Perian/messing with Terminal really necessary if I am NOT using Quicktime to play anything on the Mini? Or simply playing a real DVD?
I believe the DVD Player app uses the same parts of the operating system as quicktime. So, yes, it's still necessary.
Also make sure you go into the prefs for the DVD Player app and set the audio output to the digital output. Optionally, you can also disable the dynamic range compression in here (it's better to use the dynamic range controls in your receiver, if you do want DRC enabled).
Right now I am using Plex or VLC to play media files.
I don't know about Plex, but VLC does not rely on the quicktime infrastructure. However, you do have to go into the audio prefs of VLC and enable the SPDIF function.
What if I want to revert to default Terminal settings? How would I accomplish that?
The commands to disable are listed in the blog entry, immediately after the commands for enabling it.
Don't be afraid. There are no downsides that I'm aware of to doing the steps outlined on that page.

  • No Audio with Flip for Mac, MIDI Settings Seem OK

    Hello,
I am using Flip for Mac to stream Windows content. On most sites (You Tube etc.) it seems OK. On some however, the video plays fine, but there is no audio.
Since the video streams fine, I assume it is not a DRM issue. The MIDI Audio Input is set at 44100Hz. The MIDI Audio Output window says 'Output is not supported.' I only use the internal speakers and don't have any external ones connected to perhaps the MIDI Output is irrelevant.
But, is this more of a QuickTime7.2 compatability issue? I am only running a lower version of Flip for Mac, none of the 'Pro' upgrades so did not think it would be an issue. Are there any other common settings one should double check?
    Many thanks.

    Hi DG!
No, not a DRM issue, and you have set the midi-player settings correctly. For the full nine yards, try this:
These are the downloads and the setup you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything:
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
    Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Midi settings way out of whack in Logic Pro

I have some very odd looking "region: midi thru" settings when I open Logic Pro X or create a new track. Even if I have chagned the settings, when I launch the program and open a project, I get things like Q-Swing: +3029%, Transpose: 110%, Delay: +1953458288 ticks, Q-Strength: +12242% and so on. I will go through and even these out, usually seeting everything to 0. But when I open it up the next time, they are the same.
I'm running a brand new iMac (not even a week old as of Sept 5, 2013) OS X 10.8.4.
I'm using an m-audio midi controller with Logic Pro X (worked fine with 9, and I don't know if it is the issue or not).
I've never had this probelm before. Anyone else experience this and have a solution? I'm doing nothing differently than in Logic Pro 9, which didn't have this issue as far as L can recall.
If you need more info, let me know. I am not an expert at Logic Pro, but I have been dabbling with midi for over 20 years (not a real pro at it either). This is a bit of a new one for me.
Thanks in advance for any advice or help you may have to offer.

You're the first person that's reported this problem where it wasn't related to a project or template created in Logic 9.
You might try deleteny the LX preference files, the'yre rebuilt the nect time Logic starts.
Delete both the .plist and .cs file and see if that helps.
Delete the Logic 10 preferences file AND the shared control surfaces file.
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
-Remove the  com.apple.logic10.plist  file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this.
If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro.
then delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.

  • How can I save audio midi settings OSX 10.7.4

Every time I boot my MAC PRO I have to go into "Audio MIDI Setup" from the utilities folder and reset the inputs and outputs of my Focusrite audio interface. It is always normaled to the "Built-in Device" and will not remember that i have reset it to the Focusrite "Saffire" OSX 10.7.4.
I had no problem in OSX 10.5.8
    Any answers here?

    Hi Jim,
    Try this:
While the Built-In device is selected, Open Finder, go to Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences > Audio, and trash both files inside that folder.  Then select your Focusrite interface, and run some audio through it.  Once you've done that, restart your computer and see if it holds up.

  • ITunes and Audio Midi settings for digital output sampling frequency

Most of my music is sampled at the CD standard of 44.1 kHz, but some is 48 kHz.
I have Audio Midi set to output 48 kHz with 24-bit depth.
I've been told that to avoid having iTunes up-sample when playing 44.1 kHz music, that I need to quit iTunes, manually reset the setting in Audio Midi to the lower, matching, number, and then re-start iTunes.
This strikes me as odd. Is it true? If so, is there any less cumbersome way to deal with this?

Wheat I agree entirely with your last sentiments.
I had a similar problem to 'Luckydog'.
I have a Roland HP3 digital piano which itself is a standalone musical instrument (synthesiser if you like) but also has midi in/out and audio in/out.
I made the mistake of connecting my Mac PBG4/GB2 setup to my HP3 via the Edirol UM2 USB interface, expecting to hear my piano's sounds recorded in GB2. Of course GB2 did not record anything when I selected real instrument track beacuse the Roland, I think, was sending audio not midi data to GB2. What I have since realised is that to record a real instrument whether it be a digital piano (or acoustic piano via microphone) is to set the GB2 input to audio and feed the signal from the Roland via its audio outputs to my Mac via audio interface. (I have a USB Grifin iMic).
Of course I could use the Roland purely as a midi controler and select a software instrument track in GB2, but I also have a Radium 49 simple midi controller keyboard for that.
One thing that does puzzle me though is, that if I hook up my Roland via the UM2 to a WindowsXP laptop running an app. called Cakewalk Music Creator, the Roland sounds are recorded in the timeline and can be viewed, edited and printed as conventional music scores(great for composers!!) Also the Roland track recorded in CMC can be played back through the Roland's on-board sound generator.
In this scenario there is no audio feed between the Roland and the PC only two way midi via the UM2 USB/midi interface.
This is seems to be a fundamental difference between GB2 and the Cakewalk product. Can you explain what's going on hear Wheat?.
Sorrry such a long post !!

  • Hi i upgrade from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am getting no sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever

Hi i upgraded from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am no longer getting sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever.Any one any ideas?
I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.

Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

  • Help with MIDI Keyboard-Doesn't play a certain note

I use Logic pro with a Korg Kontrol49 keyboard. My interface is a Digidesign 003. My problem is that the E3 key does not work anywhere on the keyboard even when I switch octaves. In the transport bar when I play the note it say no in. The 3 settings on the back of the keyboard are USB, Standby, and DC. The note does work when I switch it to DC, but then I get this message and the note works. As soon I clear the message the note stops working. #1 Device Kontrol49 assigned to MIDI Port "CTRL" which is not present. #2 Device Kontrol49 is assigned to MIDI Port A which is not present. I reset MIDI settings but to no avail. Please help. I'm going out of my mind

Look in your *Controller Assignments* window (cmd-K) if E3 is used for a controller message. If so, select the message and delete it, that should do it.

Well, why don't you check the Korgs' manual and find out what this DC setting actually does , before haphazardly flicking it?
You switching it probably makes it loose USB connection. That is the message. I have no idea what the DC setting does, but that message means you have "unplugged" it, or powered it down, or otherwise disconnected it.
Please help. I'm going out of my mind
That's good. Staying inside the mind too much is not healthy...

  • Midi keyboard doesn't show up

I have a Midiplus 49 Origin Midi keyboard. When I plug it into my 2006 MacBook Pro with GarageBand 3.0.5 it works just great, plug and play with no drivers needed.
But when I plug it into my late 2009 iMac i7 with GarageBand 5.1 it just doesn't show up.
I have checked the Midi settings software on the iMac and it doesn't show any new device, but my MacBook does. The display lights up when connected to my iMac, so it's indeed connected.
I have tried to google for answers and drivers but without any luck.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

A couple of Google searches later I found out that there were other people that had similar problems but with other devices. It turns out that the USB ports on the iMac do differ a bit. Apparently the USB port closest to the Display Port sends out a bit more power than the other ones. So I simply hooked my MIDI keyboard to that port and it started working. I hope this is helpful to someone else having the same problem!

  • Syncing Korg Prophecy to MIDI clock issues

I have a Korg Prophecy with one of the earlier chipsets. There is a known issue whereby its arpeggiator locks to MIDI but does not synchronise to Song Position Pointer. As a result, although it runs at the tempo set by Logic Express, it is often 'off the beat'.
As Logic Express seems to have quite a number of MIDI settings, is there anything I can set or do that will force the Prophecy to trigger correctly?
    Thanks in advance.
