MIDI Setup won't run
I have an Intel iMac (early 2006) running OSX 10.6.3 with 2Gb RAM. I attempted to install Finale Songwriter 2010 over the weekend and the installation failed. Now it appears that my MIDI server is unavailable. When I try to run MIDI Setup, after about 5 minutes of spinning beachball, I get an error mesesage telling me that Setup couldn't open the Midi Server and advising me that, if I installed a new MIDI driver, to delete it and try again. I have completely removed Songwriter 2010 (including Preferences) but I am still unable to get Setup to run. I don't know what to do next and would appreciate any advice. (I have contacted Finale support and followed their only suggestion RE removing the program and trashing Preferences.) Help!
Jeff
Thanks for trying to help out. There is no uninstaller for Finale Songwriter but I followed the instructions from FInale and deleted all of their suggested files (program, preference, log lists, etc.) I have not midi peripherals attached (although in the past I have a keyboard and other items attached when I was running ProTools on this machine). Currently, the only things attached are keyboard, mouse, and backup drive.
What appears to happen is that I launch Finale and it searches for a longgggg time for CoreMIDI and when it finally determines that that is unavailable, it launches and I have most of its functionality but no MIDI. When I try to launch Apples MIDI Setup, I get a message that it can't start the MIDI Server. It seems to me that the original installation of Finale did something (I don't know what) to my Mac's MIDI functionality and that is what is "broken". I know it was working before the install of Finale because I opened it and there were icons there for all my old, currently unattached, peripherals. Now there is nothing.
Any ideas you have would be VERY welcome!!
Jeff

Hi all,
I got a new Shuffle as a present and set it up to charge this afternoon. I'm two hours into the charge (yes the orange light is blinking and my PC recognizes that "new hardware" is attached) and the Setup hasn't run. How do I get this to happen? Thanks!Assuming you've connected it to a high speed USB port. Do you have itunes already installed on your computer? You may want to do that first.

Audio MIDI Setup won't let me change Audio Output format
When I try to change the format to 48000.0 Hz it automatically changes it back to 44100.0 Hz, which in turn changes the Audio Input format to the same. I am also using an iMic Audio Interface, if that helps at all.
Here's the error message:
Audio MIDI Setup couldn’t open the MIDI Server so you can’t view or edit your MIDI configurations.
If you recently installed a new MIDI driver, try uninstalling it and then open Audio MIDI Setup again. If Audio MIDI Setup works correctly after that, contact the driver’s manufacturer for further support. -
Oracle9iAS Infrastructure Setup Won't Run
Hello,
I'm trying to install the Collaboration Suite on Win 2000. I installed the 9i database on the same machine without any problems. I downloaded the 3 disks for the Oracle9iAS Infrastructure, and extracted the zips. When I click on setup.exe in the Disk1 folder, a dos box comes up with the system checks, and it says they all passed. After a few seconds, that goes away and nothing else happens. I've rebooted the machine several times. Every time I try to run the installer, it creates an instance of javaw.exe in the task manager. Does anyone have any ides about how to get setup to run?
Thanks,
ChrisIf not a single setup program runs, you have a severe problem and most likely it extends beyond Adobe programs even. At best you can try to download the latest Microsoft installer standalone install from Microsoft directly to repair the issue, but chances are you will indeed have to reinstall everything. Also check your virus scanners and that and turn them off.

I've downloaded the install several times and keep getting the error:
"The installation package could not be open. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."
Any suggestions?Same problem here... Considering in this forum the number of bad feedbacks regarding the upgrade from v6 to v7, I will skip it for the moment, until Apple stabilizes this new version. At least, with v6, I have a perfectly working setup on my Windows laptop...

Installed setup BUT setup won't run!
ok so i went to the apple website and downloaded the installation wizard from the website. i have windows xp and have Symantec Client Firewall which is disabled. the installation shortcut then shows up on my desktop but when i open installation wizard, this is the message i get:
Command line parameters:
/L language ID
/S Hide intialization dialog. For silent mode use: /S
/v/qn.
/V parameters to MsiExec.exe
/UA<url to InstMsiA.exe>
/UW<url to InstMsiW.exe>
/UM<url to msi package>
and then there's an OK button at the bottem of the window and when it is pressed, the window disappears and no installation setup starts.
so what does it mean? and how do i fix it?!
thanks erini agree. i am thinking that installshield needs to be reinstalled MAYBE... i'm not sure though (and that probably is not the solution) but it's going to be hard trying to figure out what's wrong because it doesn't actually give an error number.
keep in touch.

Oracle 9.2 setup.exe won't run on P3 with Win2K SP3
Hi, everyone:
We had difficulty in installing Oracle 9.2 onto our Dell P3 Latitude C800 laptop running Win2K Professional with SP3. As many of you already reported, after double clicking "setup.exe", it won't run and nothing happened. We tried to run "autorun.exe" but that didn't work either. We also changed the system Temp/Tmp environment variables but no help either. Since our laptop is P3, not P4, not sure whether changing the symcjit.dll name would help.
This seems to be a Java issue but not sure exactly what caused the problem. We had TrendMicro's OfficeScan AV s/w installed. Is that the problem? What other commonly used s/w are Java based and may cause conflict with Oracle installer? We only have MS Office, VisualBasic, UltraEdit, Acrobat, WinZip, and GetRight installed on the laptop.
Are there any other suggestions for us to try? Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

IMac won't recognise USB MIDI keyboard in Audio MIDI Setup
I upgraded earlier in the week from a G4 eMac to a new Intel iMac. All appeared well until I tried to use my Evolution MK-361 USB midi keyboard from inside Logic. No midi events were coming through the system.
After some fiddling around I found the Audio MIDI Setup utility and the keyboard is not listed as a device in there. However, if I open System Profiler and select the USB information I can see that the keyboard is connected. According to the E-Magic web site this model of keyboard is class compliant and so shouldn't need a driver installed.
Originally I had the keyboard plugged into a USB hub. I've tried restarting the machine, restarting the machine with the cable plugged into different USB ports and different USB cables plugged into different USB ports. I've also downloaded all the latest OS / firmware / application updates and installed them.
I reconnected the keyboard to my old eMac and it shows up on there so I know it's not a fault in the keyboard itself.
The only other bits of gear connected to the machine are a Lacie external hard drive and my Saffire but these are firewire device so I wouldn't expect them to cause a problem (they certainly didn't on the eMac).
If anyone has any ideas I would seriously appreciate the help. As you can imagine I'm pretty gutted having forked out a grand for the machine.
Cheers
Jon
iMac (Intel) Mac OS X (10.4.8)Hi Jon
So much for plug and play
Yeah, it's great isn't it?
I emailed M-Audio tech support about it and apparently it's a known problem in 10.4.8 and they're waiting for a fix from Apple. I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for OS updates and go rummaging under the stairs for a midi cable instead.
Ho hum.

Audio MIDI Setup quits unexpectedly on startup every time I run it
Help, I have an almost brand-new Mac Mini (2011), that I just got a few weeks ago. I'm setting it up to be a home media server -- i.e. to output to my HDMI receiver.
I need to use Audio MIDI Setup to create a new package that will output to both the audio out jack and HDMI at the same time.
But every time I open Audio MIDI Setup, the window pops open and before I take any action whatsoever the application quits unexpectedly.
Help! I don't know what to do to get it to work.
Thank you! Thanks for the reply. it got me halfway there. Now it will open for the audio side, but still crashes as soon as I switch to Midi.
There were no Midi configs in my library, but there's a folder full of them in the main Library. Most of the files in there I don't care about, but there are several that I don't want to lose. Should i trash the folder and then re-install the ones I want? -
Kawai CN41 electric piano will not show up in Audio MIDI Setup.
Hello,
I have a Kawai CN41 Piano that I would like to connect to my Macbook via USB to control some midi functions in Logic Express (incredible software by the way...)
The Manual that came with the piano says that it should just work. But for maximum clarification, I'll retype what the manual says.
"The CN41 piano can be connected with a personal computer with a USB cable for excahanging MIDI data. You need a USB Driver installed in your computer.
[For Windows XP/ME users]
A standard USB driver is already installed in your computer. You don't need to install a new driver.
[For Windows 2000/98SE users]
You need to install the desigated driver in your computer. Visit the KAWAI website at http:/www.kawai.co.jp/english/Download1.html and download the program.
[For Macintosh users]
Macintosh OSX automatically recognizes our USB interface. No Special driver is needed. Older Macintosh OS are not supported by us. If you have an older Macintosh OS, please us an appropriate MIDI interface and MIDI cables when connecting the CN41 piano to a macintosh computer.
NOTE:
When both MIDI jacks and USB port are connected, USB has priority.
When connecting USB cable to the CN41 piano, first connect the USB cable and then turn the power of the CN41 piano on.
It may take some time to start communication when the CN41 piano is connected to the computer via USB. When USB communication is unstable with connection via hub, connect the USB cable directly to the USB port of the computer.
Turning the power of CN41 piano on/off or disconnecting the USB cable while the follwing actions may cause unstable communication.
while installing USB driver
while booting up the computer
while MIDI application is working
while communicating with the computer
while the computer is in energy saver mode
* If you have any problem with USB communication, consult the instruction manual of your computer and check your computer setup.
* The USB-MIDI conversion board TID10000934 used in the CN41 piano is approved to show the USB logo. The USB logo can be used only for the product which is approved by USB-IF (USB Implements Fourm Inc.) test.
* Windows is registered trademark of Microsoft Corporation.
* Macintosh is registered trademark of Apple Computer, Inc."
So when i follow the directions just like the manual says the only thing that happens is my mouse stops working for about 30 to 45 seconds. After it starts working, nothing whatsoever in the department of MIDI. It won't even show up in the Audio MIDI Setup application. Also, I'm not 100% positive about this, but I don't think it's showing up in the System Profiler as well.
I've tried pushing the rescan button in Audio MIDI Setup, nothing.
I've repeated everything with a different usb cable with no improvement.
And I even contacted Kawai Technical Support. The guy I talked to via email said that he wasn't a mac guy but he'd ask his friends who were if they had any problems, his friends told him that everything was working fine for them. Then he told me to go and buy a USB-MIDI interface and plug it into the traditional MIDI ports on the CN41 and see if that would work. (I really don't want to do that, one of the reasons I bought this piano is the midi-straight-to-computer-via-usb-cable-connection connection. Buying a little usb interface would defeat the point. Although, I'll probably buy one down the road eventually. I would just like it to work.)
This piano is really nice, It has keys that feel like the real thing and using it to write some tracks in Logic Express would be a delight if it would work. If I could, I would take this issue to the Apple store in Salt Lake City, but I'm thinking that I would also have to take the piano and its kinda big. I'm using a Macbook running OS X Leopard 10.5.4 with a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2 Gigs of ram. I also run a Line 6 Toneport UX2, I'm not sure if there could be any Hardware conflicts, but I'm not much of a computer guy so I figured I'd just let you know as much as I can.
Aside from this thing with the piano, OSX has worked beautifully! I will never buy a Windows running machine again. And the few times when I'm forced to use one, (Work and stuff) I get really cranky.
Thank you for your time,
Jon Worms
P.S. I'm more than willing to scan the manual and email it for you upon request, I tried to find a link to it somewhere with no luck. But you know, thats just my luck. :PHey Rob, Thanks for responding!
As far as I can see there is not. The piano does have 3 usb ports on it though. 2 A size ports to go to Kawai approved devices, such as a hard drive for recording directly to portable memory. These plugs are labeled USB to Device. Then it has one B size plug that is Labeled USB to Host. The manual says that this is the one to connect to the computer.
USB Controls do exist though. But manual states that they are for when you plug in a small hard drive/flash drive. The controls allow you to create new folders and move recordings around on a flash drive. And without a hard drive plugged into one of the A size ports I don't get anything but an error message.
Tomorrow I'm going to try and get it to work on a windows box. Maybe i'll have a little luck.
Thanks for your help.
