MIDI Sound Out

I have already edited the MIDI device program list to match with my Keystation 49e. Now, when I set up a MIDI instrument in my Editor window, everything works fine. I am able to set the program and it actually shows it in the inspector. I can enter music just fine and, in the editor, I can see the piano roll as well as the score of what I have entered so far. However, after recording and looking at it all, I just can't seem to get the MIDI sound to play on either the computer speakers or through my sound device (Apogee DUET). When I play the music for recording or for just listening, there is no sound. However, I can see the notes playing along in the transport window as well as the orange sound meter on the left of the track name responding. I just can't get the sound to come out so my ears can hear it!
Thank you in advance for your help!!

I found that LOGIC EXPRESS LE does a nasty little turn when selecting one of those pre-configured templates from the Composer --> Songwriter (acoustic) setup.
I learned that the Headphone output mix is set only to BUS 20 and that is it!! What one needs to do wth this setting is to make sure that the "output" is also set for "output tracks 1-2" as well. Otherwise, you won't be able to ear what you are doing as it is played back by Logic LE. I learned this by going through a sort of "wiring" diagram in my head and, fortunately, I found the "error" as provided by Apple. If anyone in LE Support reads this, you may want to fix this template so that other users are not too frustrated when trying to "hear" what they have produced on this template, OK?

  • Analog sound out of SPDIF

Analog sound out of SPDIF' I have connected a digital coax cable from the digital out to a Harman Kardon stereo receiver. The cable has been run to another room in order to watch downloaded shows/movies in my living room.
I receive DTS and DD sound just fine using this connection however PC sounds/MP3s and other analog sounds do not work. Is there a way to get this to work without having to add cables? Being forced to manually switch the output signal on the computer and on the stereo receiver is not a very good option.
If this is not supported are there any other sound cards that do support this? I can't imagine I am the first person to want to be able to watch DTS movies and listen to MP3s on a stereo receiver without having to swtich inputs/use a different set of cables.

? I just wanted to what I have experienced based on my digital spdif connection:
After looking at the support site for stereo receivers, I see the following statement:
"If you are going to connect from the Digital Out on your Sound Blaster to the Digital Input on your receiver, you will only receive multi channel audio when your are playing DVD games, or DVD movies, or standalone AC3 files. You will only hear stereo (front left and right channels) when playing MP3, MID, AVI, WAC, or WMA et."
This statement is confusing bc the last sentence leads me to believe that I will hear MP3, and WMA audio from the digital out but it will only be in stereo sound, not surround sound. That is fine with me, I simply want to be able to hear sound from a single cable.
Can someone clear that statement up from the support site? Will any MP3, AVI, or WMA? sound play on a stereo using the digital coax input?

  • Routing sound out of logic

I have just purchased a Korg Monotron and am very pleased with it!
I am trying to send sound out from Logic into the Monotron, and then filter the audio in the Monotron and record this back into Logic, however I have a problem.
The audio I want to send out of Logic is routed to outputs '1 & 2' on my Edirol UA-25 interface.
I take a mono output from one of these outputs on the rear of the interface, and feed this into the Monotron headphone socket.
The issue is that when the sound is fed back into Logic, I can't hear the filtering effects because it is drowned out by the audio track I am sending out.
How can I mute the sound of the outputted audio so that I can only hear the subtleties of the filtering effect in Logic.
Can anyone explain a workaround for this, or is there no solution as the audio always need to be audible to in order leave Logic, or else no sound would be sent.
    Any advice welcome!
    Cheers,
    Mr Rock

    Hi Dat Stream Studio,
    This sounds very promising!
Can you please confirm when in 'Audio Midi Setup', do I go to 'Audio Devices'.
If I select 'Audio Devices' then I have two setting- 'Default Output' and 'System Outputs'.
At present both are set to 'Edirol'.
Can you please suggest which ones I need to configure as 'Mac Internal'.
When this has been set up is all sound outputted through 'Mac internal' audio, and do I connect a lead from the iMac headphone socket into the Monotron?
To get sound back into Logic, should I connect the Monotron into say Input 1 on the Edirol, and then set up an audio track with the 'I/O' plug in set to audio 'Input 1 (and leave the 'output' blank)?
I look forward to your response.
    Cheers,
    Mr Rock

  • How do I assign multiple midi in/out ports???

Help...I have x2 midi keyboards and want to send midi data from each one to x2 separate devices/software instruments, ie Stylus RMX & Absynth thru separate midi in ports. I have a Tascam FW1884 which has x4 midi in/out ports. How do I do this? I've tried messing around in the environment but to no avail. Ideally when I play keyboard 1, midi is sent to Stylus and not recieved in absynth. I know I could use separate midi channels for this but would like to preserve these for additional midi controller data etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm having to revert back to cubase SE for the time being as its far easier to do: (

Some devices can support this, I have a hands free car kit that recieves my voice audio and I have the calls sound come through my bluetooth ear piece..  What I did was setup both devices and then went into bluetooth settings page and press one device at a time and select the the option menu, from here you usually see the supported connections for device.
Mine shows Phone and Audio and on ear piece I set to "Audio" and select my Jabra car kit and remove all checks but audio "Phone"...  By doing this I can hear through the bluetooth ear piece and use the hands-free mic to conversation..

  • Surround sound out of a Mac pro

I can mix surround sound on protools, soudtrack pro but how can I get surround sound out of this thing? is there a MIDI amp or digital optical system? don't need speaker info just what is the best way to output surround for audio mixing?

You need an external card. It can be USB or Firewire. Your sound device needs to have several outputs (at least 6). If you choose to do it with Protools, then an external card is not an option and it has to be a Digidesign or M-Audio card. (For example the M-Audio Fast Track Ultra or the Profire 610). If you go with M-Audio card then you need protools M-Powered. And you need a special plugin becaude Protools LE or M-Powered doesn't support Surround...
Now that you have a sound card with several outputs, you can't use a regular Home Receiver, it won't work. In studios, we use individual amplified speakers. And you assign each output to a specific speaker (output 1 for left front, etc).
A bit complicated but this is how it is done...

  • Saved midi sounds not loading logic9

none of my midi sounds i save in a template gets saved. it defaults back to the first sound on my triton. when i click from one midi track to the next it defaults to the first sound. none of my sound are getting loaded.
    what am i doing wrong..

So, here's an update to the problem, and to highlight, I decided to start fresh to demonstrate.
Okay, so, I created a new "concert" and only assigned one keyboard (Keyboard 1). The default sound was, of course, Suitcase Bright. When I select different sounds from 01 Pre-Mapped or 02 Software Instruments, everything seems normal. But, when I select different sounds from the 03 Electric Guitar, 04 Vocal, Audio Channel Strips, and Instrument Channel Strips patch libraries, the yellow Keyboard Layer disappears, and no sound plays like I described before.
So, for example, I went to Instrument Channel Strips > 10 Orchestral > 01 Woodwinds > Bassoon Legato. The Keyboard Layer disappears and there's no sound. Here is where the problem is: Upon further inspection(based on your steps), I went to MIDI Input within the Channel Strip and I discovered that it's automatically creating a new keyboard input (Keyboard 2) which I never created and it just doesn't exist in real life. That's why the Keyboard Layers are disappearing and no sound is coming out; it's trying to automatically move it over to a keyboard that's just not there.
Again, this only happens when selecting sounds from within the 03 Electric Guitar, 04 Vocal, Audio Channel Strips, and Instrument Channel Strips patch libraries. When I select a sound from 01 Pre-Mapped or 02 Software Instruments, the Keyboard Layers reappear and everything goes back to normal.
So, I'm not sure how to fix this ...

  • Editing the waveform of a MIDI sound

    Hi all,
I'm trying to edit one of the MIDI sounds, specifically, I want the sound to cutoff sooner rather than having it linger.
What is the best way to do this?
My initial thought is to convert the software instrument (MIDI) into a wave file, then edit that wave file by deleting the "lingering" portion of the sound so that it cuts off the way I want it to. Then I can just paste that sound into the (not sure what it's called exactly) window that has all the tracks. It'd be even better to be able to assign that small wave file to a key on my MIDI controller. I've done something like this on Garageband so I assume it's possible to do on Logic.
Any help on how to pull this off with something similar to what I described above? Or even better, is there a simple way to do this? Thanks!

    Hi
What Instrument are you using to create the 'sound'?
Most of Logic's Software Instruments have an 'Envelope' section. This is where you can adjust the ADSR of the sound (Attack (lead in), Decay, Sustain (how long actual sound lasts for), Release (length of trail...).
    Here are some ways:
You can use the Sustain & Release parameter in the plugin to adjust the length.
You can use Track Automation and volume to cut the sound out too. (View > Track Automation, draw nodes for Volume, drag lines to create a fade out).
You can use Hyper draw (Region based automation) to do this.
You can bounce the MIDI region to an audio file (Solo track, File > Bounce), import audio file and in Sample Editor use the fade out function. (This destructively edits the audio file).
You can bounce the region to audio and in the Arrange area use the fade tool to non-destructively add a fade to the end of a region. Then use the Automation Curve tool to add a curve shape to the fade out.
There are many ways to do this

  • Sound out reverts to internal speakers at every shut down

Everytime I turn on my Mac Pro I have to go to System Preferences and change the sound to Line out. Every time I shut down the sound out defaults to the internal speakers. is there anyway to stop this?

    Things you can try.
    1. Smc and pram resets.
    2. See if you can get it to "stick" by setting the sound out preference with Audio MIDI Setup (in your Utilitiles folder).
    3. Last resort -- temporarily remove the two plists in /Library/Preferences/Audio.

  • How to "assign" MIDI sounds to

I need some help fixing my MIDI drums.
This is my setup: Roland TD-6V --> M-Audio Uno USB MIDI interface --> My macbook.
Recording works well, I can hear the playback of my drums coming out of Logic. That's all good.
But my snare, kick, and ride pads all have the same snare MIDI sound. For whatever reason, Logic thinks those three pads are one and the same. My hi-hat is messed up as well.
I've looked on other threads, did youtube searches, checked Logic's Help, and managed to find my way to the Mapped Environment menu. I changed the Output Notes to my desired drum sounds, yet when they are played, either on my drums or on the Capslock Keyboard, they still play the original, wrong sound.
Please help. If you can help me make my MIDI kit on Logic sound the way it does on my Roland's module, I'll name a song after you (seriously).
    Thanks in advance!

You need to create a sampler instrument which maps the samples to notes, and can then be played in the EXS24 sampler.
Read the Instruments manual on the EXS24 and creating sampler instruments for the full skinny.

  • No bass and mids sound on left speaker?

On Vista 64 I get no bass and mids sound via the left inbuild speaker with whatever Realtek driver I try (upto R2.15). No such problem on OS X and no problem via headphones out.
Seems like a driver bug to me, but I'd like to get feedback from other users.

  • MIDI sound not found

I've been trying to connect my Lexicon Alpha desktop recording studio to GarageBand, so that I can use my keyboard. It connects but does not find a signal.
When I go into settings in the top menu under GarageBand and then into Sound/MIDI. Here it says Sound In and Sound Out - Lexsicon Alpha In/Out, but then underneath it says 0 Midi sound going in has been found.
Anyone knows how to make it work?

after looking at a couple of pictures, it appears the Alpha is only an audio interface, not a MIDI interface, so you can only record your keyboard's sounds:

  • Midi sound on xtrememus

Hi, i've been looking for a solution for my problem for a while but i havent found anything so here i go!
I bougth the X-fi xtrememusic a while ago and i havent figured out how to get the midi sound as it should do.
I'm using a programmed called Guitar Pro (instrument tablature reader aso.) wich uses midi to produce the sound, how come i cant get any sound from a instrument that is panned 0(centerd)?
( If i pan some instrument full to the right/left i hear the sound (only at right/left ofc). )

When you say "get MIDI to work" what do you mean by that?
If you mean MIDI playback it should just work. Some of the MIDI functionality is weaker in game mode. The other two modes should have full MIDI functionality.
Launch "soundfont bank manager" from the systray icon and see if you've got a soundfont loaded. If not just click reset to default from there. The Creative restore defaults in the Creative Audio Console ( in start->programs->Creative->Audio Console ) should give the restore defaults page.

  • Why are Logic's MIDI sounds all panned?

All the midi sounds that I am using sound extra heavy on the left side...because they are.  When I try to pan them to the right, they simply get quiet, there is hardly any level there.  When I change them to audio I can see clearly that they are all louder on the left side.
    What gives?????

Thanks guys.  I had all my hardware set up fine.  And I got confused when I changed a few midi clips to audio and saw that they were heavier on the left.  I assumed ALL the clips I was hearing would look like that.
Turns out it was a software issue after all.  Tracing the signal step by step I found that the audio out put in the SYSTEM SETTINGS was panned left.  I have no idea how that happened.  And now I'm worried I've blown my left speaker lol.
Anyway thanks for comments both helped me underta d it wasn't logic, it was me.

Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
    Go to your Finder
    Choose the Go Menu
    Choose Computer
    Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
    Choose your "Library" Folder
    Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
    Empty the Trash
    Restart from the Apple Menu
    When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
         Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

I want to plg my apple tv in to a projector but i want to break the sound out to a seperate audio solution. Is there a lead that I can use? The sound system has 2 x phono connections?

The sound can already be "broken out" by using the optiocal cable jack. That, of course, assumes your audio input is capable of optical inputs. If not, you might have alook into something like this: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=opt ical+to+rca+converter&tbm=shop
