MIDI Timeout on start up GarageBand 11

Got a brand new iMac in February, GarageBand will not start up due to a freeze in MIDI the following is the error message I Get:
GarageBand has detected a MIDI timeout. Please restart your computer, then relaunch GarageBand. If the problem persists, update the drivers of all connected MIDI devices (including audio drivers with MIDI functionality) to the latest version. For instructions on removing older drivers, consult the manufacturers' documentation.
I have done as suggested, but GarageBand still won't complete start up. I cannot open old projects, I have repaired disk permissions, removed the "EmagicUSBMIDIDriver" as was suggested in a post for the '08 version. Still no luck as far as getting it to work. I continue to get the same messages. I have no MIDI drivers to install. and none that I can find on the web.
I bought a mac mini at the same time, same basic configuration, but it works over there. I have a Casio keyboard that plugs into the USB port and works like a charm on my Mini, but doesn't on the iMac. Anybody have a clue as to what can be done to make it work?

Guys,
I could not find any solution on apple's blog so far, so considering that I just found the solution to this problem I wanted to share it here so if people in the future face the same stuff, they don't need to go around like I did all night long!!
Thanks to George Leger III who posted on below link:

I got the MIDI TIMEOUT issue all of a sudden while I was using Logic Pro 9.1.5 connecting my Apogee GIO and my Casio keyboard at the same time.
I am running OS 10.7 (Lion)
The issue seems to be due to a Driver conflict between GIO and MIDI
I tried to remove all the Apogee GIO drivers and Plug In (I even removed the Apogee Gio.app).
My Casio model does not need any driver, so I guess it's running by using some default drivers (I only found EmagicUSBMIDIDriver.plugin but I don't want to touch this).
Well, now my Logic Pro and GarageBand open without anymore error, so I fell much better!
I will try to install again the Apogee GIO drivers later...Hopefully this error will not persist!
Cheers!

  • Garageband has detected a midi timeout

Garageband takes a long, long time to open and then when it does, I get this error message about midi timeout.  Garageband eventually does open, but it says that there are no Apple loops installed.  What's going on?

SOLVED;  Found Some digidesign stuff in /library/audio (system library -- I had deleted all of the audio drivers in the user library.
Still doubt that I can use my M-Box with GB, but that's OK, I can just use Audacity & then import the tracks into GB or just the opposite.
I should have read the posts listed in the right hand column.

I'm just guessing at this point, but I suspect that you have installed a midi driver on your computer for some external device, and, since GarageBand's midi capabilities are limited in some ways, chances are your audio/midi driver is asking GarageBand to do something more than it's made to do, causing core audio's midi function to crash.
If that's the case, you might want to try adjusting your midi device's driver settings, or uninstalling your midi device's driver, and then see if GarageBand starts up normally without it.

Everytime since this update that I've tried to start Logic Pro it hangs during the "Checking MiDI Drivers" process (I use a Novation Nocturn 25). When it finally loads after like 5 minutes I get this message:

I've tried going to my HD then going to Library then going to MiDI drivers folder to move them to the desktop, but there is nothing in there. Anyone else have this problem and can help?

    Hi,
    Go to HD>Library>Audio>MIDI Drivers
move the contents of the folder on the Desktop.
    Start Logic pro.
How many plugins are installed in this folder?
If Logic starts without crashing, quit it and
move back each one at a time and restart Logic to find out which one is crashing it.

  • Can I get my midi regions to look like Garagebands?

I started playing with GB recently, been a LE7.1 user for a while now...and I did find it quicker to come up with ideas and songs, but couldn't put my finger on why...then I realized in Logic Express, all my midi regions in the arrange window have musical notes, like a score, where the midi notes are, and in GarageBand, I see actual dots and lines right where they are. I prefer it the GB way, but I can't find a preference or anything that allows me to change that. Can I?

For details of how to restore the menus see [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/menu+bar+is+missing]
Once the menus are back, you can use the View menu, then select Toolbars and click on the names of the toolbars to toggle displaying them.

  • Major MIDI timeout and latency problems

    Hi Everyone,
I have been using Logic 8 and the M-Audio Uno for years. Mostly only for creating scores, not much recording.
About a week ago I started getting the MIDI timeout message and Logic would just quit on me. I upgraded to LPX
and for a day or two it was fine. Then I got the Midi Timeout messages again and would get the spinning wheel and eventual shut down of the LPX.
The MIDI Uno interface has no upgrade to OS 10.8.4, so i went out and got a MIDISport because LP was saying to upgrade the drivers, which hasnt helped at all. In fact it got worse.  If I boot up LPX now I get over 3ms of lag and have tried all low latency and plug in removals to fix it. That didnt help.
When I hit record the click track skips a beat or 2 then gives me the Midi TimeOut message again.
Im working on MAC PRO OS 10.8.4, 2 x 2.8 Ghz Quad- Core Intel Xeon. Memory 2 GB 800 Mhz DDR2 f8-DIMM
My MIDI Interface is the MIDISPORT (or M-Audio UNO) and my Audio I/O is the Apogee Duet.
    Thanks
    Rob

Do they have the same interface as you? I get very little latency on my iBook G4 and I am using usb 2.
Before getting my external drive I had been recording successfully on my iBook's hardrive. Besides eating up hardrive space I had no problems. Much of what I do uses GB's excellent software instruments and MIDI.
Software instruments are strenuous on the cpu and ram. What is your ram situation?
I also lock tracks as I go along, especially with software instruments. Avoid using effects during the recording stage, add the effects afterwards.

  • MIDI Timeout - Mountain Lion 10.8.2 - Logic Pro 9.1.7

This issue is driving me INSANE.
Everything was working great a couple of weeks ago.  I'm fairly certain but not 100% this worked after my upgrade to 10.8.1
I am seeing the dreaded MIDI Timeout that seems to have NO ANSWER for some.  Others claim clear out your logic/gb temp files and reboot and all is well, or verify/repair your files/permissions... DOESN'T WORK.
I've created 2 different user accounts no dice.
I get the MIDI Timeout / The bad driver? windows
    In Logic / Garage Band.
MIDI Setup takes forever to do anything and when clicking anything other then the first main window that loads it just hangs.
I've tried nearly EVERY fix i've seen on these boards.
    Downgrading to Pro Kit 7.0
    Upgrading to Pro Kit 7.2.2
    Going from 10.8.1 - 10.8.0
    Reinstalling Logic 9.0.0 - 9.1.3 - 9.1.7
While doing all of this It seems anything that accesses anything with MIDI just crashes and needs to be forced closed.
At some point during my upgrades, downgrades it seems that it was more responsive while crashing (meaning it crashed faster and or gave me error messages without as long of a wait.)
At this point Logic LOADS, Past the checking MIDI (which it would always crash on) and will load a project.  However the SECOND I try ANYTHING it gives me the MIDI error and refuses to work.
Before that I was getting something with the MIDI as well.
I am getting a Sequencer engine timed out after 800 milliseconds in the console.
IS There Anything I can do that might actually fix this aside from a TOTAL clean install and do over?
I'm at my wits end here.  I don't want to waste another 3 days loosing time reinstalling.
    Thanks

I updated to 10.7.5 last week and have been experiencing problems with MIDI ever since. In particular, my laptop will sometimes not find my interface (a MOTU Express XT). Unplugging the USB cable and plugging it in again will sometimes make it work again. But I've also found that a perfectly working system will stop working if I leave everything alone for a few hours and come back to it later.
Very worried about this but I've no idea what's going on

  • The solution for Midi Timeout is easy...

After getting the Midi Timeout problem and spending hours to fix this, I came acrros a comment on the web that fixes it. Believe it or not, but it's an automation problem. All I did was selecting all the tracks inthe arrange window, and from the Track menu, choose Track Automation/Delete redundant Nodes.
    Problem solved!

  • HT2375 what is midi timeout error? how can I fix it?

logic pro has detected a midi timeout
    error initializing
mac osx midi services not avaliable
    HOW CAN I FIX IT?

THIS IS HOW I FIXED IT:
Because the document info panel listed 2 CMYK objects in the C, I thought I would try Merge under Pathfinder to make it one.
Instead, for whatever reason, what happened was Illustrator released the compound path into individual paths.  From there, I performed another Merge and...
Magically, the problem disappeared.  I am now able to apply graphic styles to the compound path and everything works as it should.
Still don't know what created the original problem, though.
Thanks to you guys for the suggestions.
