Midi to sheet music from Logic 8

Hey I have finale notepad which transforms midi files into sheet music(among other things) and I want to take a specific midi file from a project i'm working on in Logic 8 and turn it into sheet music. I can't figure out how to export the already midi file from Logic 8 and keep it as a midi file. The only options are wave forms like AIFF MP3 WAV etc. This is really frustrating. I don't understand why this task should be so difficult. HELP PLEASE!
Thanks

First merge all regions per each midi track in Logic to prepare for export. Select all midi sequences you want to export as SMF and go to File->Export->Midi File.

  • Hello MacBook Pro Musicians- I cannot read sheet music from the ipad. It is too small. I want to connect a large monitor, hopefully wirelessly to my 13 inch macbook pro. what would I need to connect ? Any suggestions on how to keep monitor from falling?

Hello Macbook Pro Musicians--I cannot read sheet music from my 13" macbook or from an IPad. The print is too small for these aging eyes! So I need to get a large monitor to attach to the Macbook.  I want the monitor to be connected wirelessly or using a blue tooth.  This will eliminate alot of potential mishaps
when playing out.  Also I am having a time figuring out how I am going to safely keep the monitor on somekind of music stand without falling!!!  Can anyone help me with this?

    Hi Julius,
As you can see in my profile section, my MBP is older by 5 years, 2GB RAM and with regards to question 1 (Q1), has no problems with having all those programs open at the same time with the possible exception of Photoshop since I use Gimp instead. With twice the RAM and much overall much better specs, Photoshop shouldn't be an issue. But you listed some other activities that might need that additional RAM. But the advise most give is to not get it from Apple but from a third party.
Q5 - I always get Apple Care. Only had to use it once but it paid for itself that one time.
Sorry, can't help you much with the questions you really want answered since I won't have a new MBP until (hopefully) next week but for Q4, I believe it depends on the peripheral. My current monitors are too old to allow them to be hooked up in a chain. Supposedly, if the monitors do have the ports, you could via the MBP Thunderbolt port. The speeds are also dependent upon the peripheral. If the external hard drive is using a USB 2 port, you are limited by that speed (480 Mb/s). If it has a Thunderbolt port, then from what I understand, we, my friend, are in for some great times because I believe your RAM will have the ability to access data as fast as it can take it at 10Gb/s (and if will need those kinds of speeds, the 8GB of RAM may be the way to go). The Thunderbolt demos on YouTube where they are accessing four video files from a Raid drive, then sending them back out via Final Cut Pro to a monitor are amazing. I'll probably never push this machine to anywhere near it's limits but I can't wait to see what others do.
    Peace,
    Jeremiah

If you want to import an audio file into an FCE project, make sure it is in AIF format (uncompressed) as 48khz, 16 bit.

  • Anyone know of any MIDI arpeggiator generators (apart from Logics)

I'm looking for some sort of MIDI arpeggiator generator for something I'm working on. I know Logic has one and I've used it a fair bit, but I find it very limited.
What I'd like is something simple with a whole bunch of presets/algorithms to choose from etc. Or perhaps some downloadable MIDI sequences or something (I know AU doesn't support transmission of MIDI so that might be an issue).
    Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks

Cheers Erik, yeah I guess I'm more likely to find synths with this feature but I don't really want any more synths! Have I discovered a gap in the market?! I imagine something like this would be quite cool... just a really simple interface where you define a bunch of parameters to create all manner of interesting arpeggiated sequences. I'd be surprised if it doesn't exist...?

  • No Midi In or Out from Logic Pro on MacBook Pro. Worked fine on my G5...

Hi, I've recently bought a Macbook Pro (Unibody) to replace my old G5. I've reinstalled Logic Pro 7 and the Midi drivers for my MIDISPORT 4x4.
The Midisport active LED pulses as it should when idle, and the LEDS on the MIDISPORT flash when receiving MIDI in but I can't hear anything in Logic. Logic has also stopped transmitting MIDI out. So as it is I can't play any virtual instruments on the Mac, nor can I even play my hardware gear, there is just nothing!
I've checked and rechecked the settings but no luck. It all worked fine on the G5.
This is really frustrating as I need the Mac to do some live gigs and at the moment I've got a £900 paperweight. Any advice gratefully received.

Have you reinstalled the drivers on your Macbook?

Oh yeah, scrap that, it says you did.
Also are you trying to power it from the laptop, if it has an ac adapter port, you may need to plug that in too, it might not be getting enough power from the laptop.
Actually scrap that too, I've just had a look it's solely USB

  • Midi export/import inaccurate from Logic Sibelius

Triplets are inconsistently notated at triplets OR dotted 8th-16th. I have quantized destructively, ensured perfect legato, and made sure that my import settings allow triplets. Anyone else having this problem? And, more helpful: anyone have a solution?

yes you can export a MIDI region to a MIDI File in Logic.

  • How can I export midi to pro tools from my iPad garage band

I'd like to take songs I've written in midi on the iPad garage band, export the midi files to my PC which uses pro tools 10 so I can work on them more there, and use the score creator...here is why, when I sit around and write a song on iPad, I'm using virtual instruments, I'd like to be able to first, have more power..ie pro tools..to mix the tracks, then also be able to print sheet music from the midi so I can recreate the midi tracks with real instruments, when I'm writing the stuff with midi on garage band, it's I can't remember what I played where by the time I've moved the midi notes around a little etc etc..and I'd like the actual recording to be real instruments not virtual, as I want a very professional sounding recording.. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

If the folders were created in the Photos app on the iPad, they don't really contain copies of the photos. They contain pointers to those photos that allow them to appear in the albums that you create. Consequently, they cannot be imported to the computer. Those albums are for local organization on the iPad only And cannot be imported.
You should be able to select the indicidual phots that you want to import, as far as I know. I can do it on a Mac using iPhoto or Image Capture, so I assume that Windows will allow you to pick and choose which photos you want to import.

  • Create sheet music on ipad

Is it possible to print sheet music from songs created on the iPad?
If so, how is it done? Is there a "print sheet music" option on the iPad App, or is it doable by exporting the track to Garageband on the Mac, andthen  print sheet music from here?

Such a feature is not included.  Also no Midi options.
There are other Music production apps available that might help you, but not with Garageband as it features only on creation of sound.

  • Entering notation from sheet music to create accompaniment tracks

I just accepted a junior high/high school vocal music teaching position for the upcoming school year. The school does not have a full time accompanist so I had planned on using Finale Print Music to put sheet music into the program and save the files to use during my rehearsals. This works well for rehearsals but I'm wanting something better (more instruments) for performances - especially for the school musical as I will not have an orchestra (it's a small school). I got to thinking today that Garage Band might sound better than Finale. My husband recommended using Logic Express (which we have) instead because it has more features that Garage Band.
Anyway...I've been trying to figure out Logic today (I'm pretty good with computers) and have been struggling with the best way to input notes. I have a Roland digital keyboard but struggle with just recording because my piano skills aren't great.
When I try to use Score Editor the problem I keep getting is that even though I click on an eighth note (using the pencil tool), it shows up in the staff as a different type of note (quarter note, sixteenth note). I would like to be able to enter chord by chord as well (for entering piano notation).
I have tried to search these discussion boards but have not been able to find a solution. I guess the main question is: will this program (Logic Express) do what I want it to do (create background accompaniments) or am I wasting my time trying to learn something new (or could you recommend something better/easier). I have a lot of music to create accompaniments for before the school year starts and could use any advice you could give me.
    Thanks!
    Christina

Logic Express 7 can certainly do everything you need, although upgrading would help (but I don't want to suggest you spend money unnecessarily).
I have manuals for Logic Pro 7 & 8, but not for Express 7, so I can't say exactly what will be in there, but I would guess there will be a great deal of information regarding using scores, since this is a big area with a huge number of options.
The main issue is that Logic is primarily a music performance & recording application, so although it has excellent scoring facilities, the object of the exercise from Logic's point of view is to allow the score to look right without affecting the recorded performance. The performance comes first; then the score can be tidied up to look right.
This is exactly the other way round from Scoring applications such as Finale.
The advantage is that you're right; Logic will provide better sounds than Finale. The disadvantage is that it isn't so easy just to put score in & have it sound good; although you can input the score directly, it's easier in the long run to perform the parts & then adjust the scoring.
With regard to inputting the wrong note values: there are lots of options that govern what gets put in when you input notes directly, including Quantise & Rest Quantise values. You will need to go through all these options, preferably with the manual; but it should be quite straight forward once you've got started.
If any of this sounds at all off-putting, it isn't meant to! Getting started is always the hardest part. Once you're underway, it will start to get more fun & more productive. Good software always has a learning curve, & a learning curve is always steepest at the bottom.
Good luck, & if you have any other specific questions, just ask.
P.S.: if you have work already done in Finale, then if you export it as SMFs (Standard MIDI Files) you can open these in Logic. Don't Import them, though; opening them preserves more information. You can easily copy Regions between Arrangements once you've got them into Logic.

  • Get error message when trying to print from Sheet Music Plus

I have Windows 8, Have installed Adobe Air and flashplayer, but when I try to do digital print from Sheet Music Plus I get error message: The application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged. Try obtaining a new installer file from the application author.

Wow, that's the first time I think I've ever seen that solution!  Very happy you were able to get this solved.  I'm not sure what would cause this to fail, maybe some sort of permission issue with the desktop folder?  If you have a chance, would you mind emailing me ([email protected]) the following log file?  I'd love to take a look and see if we caught anything with our error reporting.

  • Sending MIDI from Logic to Motion

Motion (Apple's animation software) allows MIDI instructions to change animation parameters. I was wondering if anyone here has been successful in sending MIDI instructions from Logic to Motion and can take me through the steps to do so. (I have a related question over in the Motion forum.)
    Thanks in advance.

Take a look at "midipipe" and "midi patchbay" too.(free downloadables)
They're probably just front-ends for the IAC bus, but sometimes GUI is good.
Be wary when enabling virtual midi patches cause logic sums all inputs which can create a feedback loop. It seems to not hang my computer indefinately when it happens nowadays, just freeze it for a few seconds then give me a few seconds to fix it before freezing again for a while.
If your getting into realtime midi to graphics also check out "quartz composer" in the osx developer tools too.
..or "pure data" with GEM if your real brave.

  • Got iTunes match, synced up music from laptop to phone, headed out listening to playlist, all of a sudden, mid-song, music stopped and all music was gone and needed to be re-downloaded

Ok, so I initially bought the cloud mainly in the hopes that I could store all of my music on it and have access to it on my phone, which ended up not being the case. Fine. So I man up and get iTunes match, sync everything up between my laptop and my phone, make a playlist and head out listening to it. All of a sudden while I'm out, mid-song, the music stops. I go to see what's going on and everything is gone and has the icon to download next to it, and now I'm away from my wifi to boot, so charges apply. I don't understand. Now I have iCloud on my phone with 25 GB Total Storage and 25 GB Available because I don't understand what I should be using it for and iTunes match which, what, only works when I'm within spitting distance of my laptop? I've tried to get everything sorted out, paying a fee each time, and hitting roadblocks every step of the way; and on top of it, my phone is constantly telling me it can't do this or that because I don't have enough storage?? I realize I'm a bit of a noob, but c'mon, it shouldn't be this complicated or difficult, should it?

If you have no network access (3G, Wi Fi) you cannot stream music from the cloud. Period. The way you stop the behavior is to enable 3G, or pre-download the tracks you think you will want to listen to.

  • How to configure a map of patches names of my midi device in order to insert program changes from Logic?

How to configure a map of patches names of my midi device in order to insert program changes from Logic?

You can usually use a patch editor-librarian program like Sound Diver or MidiQuest to copy and paste the patch names (one bank at a time) into the patch name list of a multi-intsrument object in the environment.
That's what I do.  Works like a charm.
    Cheer,

"My first copy of Logic came on Floppy disks"
And you will need to setup bank change commands for your particular instrument, if it does in fact have several banks of internal patches. Logic comes with a selection of bank change commands, one of them will almost always work.
My first copy of Logic came on floppies, two of them I think and was MIDI only, moved up to Logic_Audio at version 3.0 I think.

  • When running a "stand-alone" APP..how do I send midi from Logic?

    Hi all,
    When running a "stand-alone" APP..how do I send midi from Logic?.....Please no IAC stuff it doesn't work.......thanx
    SvK

using IAC here no problems. works very well.
you can host your au's in another app such as soundflower or au lab, but you are still going to need to get it to hear midi. you can use physical midi ports with something like a MTP midi interface, and getting the midi by routing the out of one port to the in of another (midi loop) but you have to be careful logic doesn't listen to the same midi signal or everything will jam up (midi feedback).
