MIDI to USB connection

GarageBand novice. Can I connect an electronic keyboard with a MIDI OUT port directly to GarageBand on my iMac with a MIDI/USB cord? If so, do I just have to connect the cord and GB will automically recognize the keyboard? Thanks.

yes, as long as the MIDI/USB interface is mac compatible, and works with your version of the OS

After sleep, retina MacBook Pro (Mid 2014, on 10.9.4) does not recognize usb connected mouse movement. I have tried a generic usb mouse and my Razer Deathadder usb mouse. Both mice work before sleep; but after sleep, the computer no longer recognizes mouse movement while still recognizing the mouse buttons when pressed. Any idea why this is occurring?

  • MIDI over direct USB connection between two computers?

I'm trying to find out if it's possible to send MIDI between two computers using a direct USB to USB connection (no MIDI interface). I have not seen this done before, I don't think, but I don't know why it shouldn't be possible.
Thanks for any tips on making this work. I want to connect several computers together to control sound and video for a theatre production, to be triggered from a single MIDI source.

    Hi,
I don't think there's something for midi over USB; however, there is an experimental tool for midi over Ethernet. It's called iMidi, and it's written foor PPC, and there's no native Intel version. I tried it with my PPC eMac and Intel iMac, but it took a lot of processing power
    See http://openmuse.org/transport/mip_oview.html for more info.
You could also use a midi thru box and 2 midi interfaces to trigger 2 Macs with 1 midi source.
    Hope this helps!
    Kind regards,
    Jaap

  • Issues about USB connection on MBA2013(mid)

    Hello.
I have an problem with my MBA 2013(mid).
I purchased MBA for DJing but really disappointed with this.
    My set up is ...
    Traktor Scratch Pro 2.6.3
NI Audio 8 DJ with the latest firmware (2.6.0 fixed issues with kernel panic on MBA 2013 and support mavericks)
    Denon CDJ SC2900 and SC3900
    DJM 800
2 CDJs and Audio8DJ connected to MBA on USB port.
CDJs have its own power and Audio8DJ uses only USB bus power.
Everything is fine with this setup. Timecode signal is steady and has no latency.
But after I start mixing, suddenly all usb connection goes out randomly.
Sometimes it took 5min, sometimes 30min.
No MIDI signal, No Sound output
MBA's console show me messages ...

  • TS1702 Using an iPad camera connection kit and a MIDI to USB cable to interface a MIDI keyboard with GarageBand. It works flawlessly... almost...

I'm using an iPad camera connection kit and a MIDI to USB cable to interface a MIDI keyboard with GarageBand. It works flawlessly... until I use the sustain pedal. Once the pedal is depressed while playing a given note, from then on, the pedal itself plays the note every time it is depressed. It's not the keyboard or the pedal. I've tried others. That leaves the app or the connection between the iPad and the keyboard. I find it hard to believe I'm the only person who is experiencing this problem. Anyone have a fix?

Yes.  There are a ton of write-ups on how to do the connections.   I connect my m-audio Keystation 61 es through the CCK to my iPad and use GarageBand to control it.  Some keyboards require a powered USB hub to make things work.  I use a belkin 4 port hub in my own setup.   Here is a link to tested / verified keyboards that work via the CCK:  http://iosmidi.com/devices/

  • USB connections: iMac mid 2011.

Question about the USB connections: the cable fit is not seated as tight as usual. Any other experience with loose USB connections on the USB ports (4 at the back of computer)

I seem to be running into the same thing or something similar here, same model (27", if that matters). Bought it today, box in perfect shape, machine 100% factory new. Seemed to be working fine, including the Ethernet port. First clue that there was an issue was that Firewire wasn't acknowledging my other machine with a brand new cable, no matter what order of operation I used with rebooting, plugging in, and so forth. Plugged in my external drives and my iPod, and none of them would stay connected. They will connect if you carefully plug them in and align the plugs just right (I didn't spend much time at all jiggling the plugs, because I don't want to mess up my cabling or the ports if I'm just missing something), but if you breathe on the machine wrong, the drives come loose and you get the "improperly disconnected" error. Typing was even knocking them off. So, 9 AM call to Support scheduled, and the store opens at 10 AM. If I find out more as I'm (hopefully) doing a quick exchange, I will let you know.

  • Need a midi-to-usb converter

So...I'm trying to figure out which midi-to-usb converter would work best to connect my Suzuki KM-88 keyboard to my MacBook so I can record with GarageBand. Any ideas on what would work the best? I would appreciate it!
    Thanks,

    Hi there!
Thanks so much for the link! Are these the best adaptors that I can get? Or should I look for some higher quality ones? I'll be using it a lot, so, just wondering.

  • Low Recording Volume w/ Fender Mustang III USB connection

Using the USB connection from Fender Mustang III amp.
Garageband recognizes the connection but grays out the "Recording Level"
The end result even turning all volume to max is low input recording volume.
What is the problem? Is there a setting I am missing or is this a bug?

although i kind of doubt it, see if you can set the volume of the USB interface's input through the Audio MIDI Setup utility

  • GarageBand iPhone4 and Midi input: USB or standalone?

    Dear collegue musicians,
I would like to play my master keyboard (which has Midi IN/OUT ports) using the piano sound of GarageBand for iPhone.
I've got also a Korg NanoKontrol that I'm already using with my Mac.
    http://www.korg.com/nanoseries2
    My question is:
is it better to buy a standalone device like as iRig Midi Interface (http://store.apple.com/us/product/H7498VC/A/irig-midi-interface) to connect directly to my iPhone4 or use my old usb to midi interface ESI Rom IO (http://www.esi-audio.com/products/romio/) with the USB Camera adapter (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC531ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE)?
Will the second solution work with any midi software for iPhone?
    I've seen on this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frN-kGKV5BM&feature=related
that with the camera adapter I could even connect the Korg Nanokontrol.
Can I connect both the Korg nanokontrol and the midi interface to the iPhone?
    Hope you can help me.
    Cheers
       Giacomo

Yes. I mean that it goes into the lock screen and I didn't notice if it happens after a minute or more.
When you unlock the device (after the standby) if the phones-output is connected to an audio-system like as an hi-fi or a mixer the mobile makes a spike that makes the garage band useless for live playing. The spike is not a bug of garageband, the bug is that there should be the possibility to setup garageband to not go into standby.
On the other side, garage band has an amazing hammond organ which is named "Soul organ" and it's not good when using its default settings but if you set the distortion to 0 (minimum level) it's just amazing! After this, try to set the rotation to fast and just enjoy! It's the leslie. Nothing less compared to a PC sound module.
I don't like the piano of Garageband because it's too bright. I prefer the ones of iRig SampleTank.
Furthermore, iRig SampleTank support also different tones for different tracks and you can load/save preset of sound. I have still to find a way to play piano + slow strings together because I have the sample tank basic version + piano suite but I want to buy all the tones suite. It costs about €30 which is more expensive that GarageBand but it works!
    Hope this can help you.

  • Recently I've been getting repeating static noise through USB connected devices in GarageBand

I've been using GarageBand for recording for the past year.  Only recently have I encountered an issue with the use of ANY usb connected device.  I'm using a Macbook Pro Retina 15" and the connected devices I've encountered the issue with are a Blue Snowball Mic, M-Audio Axiom 49 Midi Controller, and guitars plugged in via a Rocksmith Cable... pretty much any time I record through USB I get a repeating static noise approximately every 35 seconds that lasts for 2-3 seconds.  The noise is very prevalent and sounds very much like what cell signal noise sounds like.  I tested putting my iPhone into Airplane mode hoping that would solve the issue but to no avail.
I've been using this same exact setup for over a year and only in the last month has there been any problem like this.
Anyone else seeing this problem and does anyone know of a solution... it's pretty much rendered GarageBand useless for recording at this point for me.

Fixed my own problem... if anyone else has this issue and sees this all I had to do was update to ML 10.8.3 and it took care of what ever bug was in the system.

  • Multi USB connections - Advice please.

Soon I will be upgrading my G4 to a Mac Pro.
I am very inexperienced when it comes to connections, etc.
At present, my G4 has approximately 7 USBs connections via an old external Belkin hub.
I am guessing the transfer speed will be slow if I used it on the Mac Pro?
Please, can anyone give advice on how to collect these USB's. Should I purchase a multi USB PCI card?
    Thanks from the UK.

    Hi mooblie,
It's all digital, and if it works at all, it's likely to be working at full spec.
With respect, mooblie, your argument does not hold water.
Not all cables handle digital signals equally. Signal quality deteriorates over distance. The longer the cable, the more important it is to have the best quality interconnect. Also, the best quality interconnects have better quality plugs, which again have an effect on the signal.
And, if what you are saying was true, why does every single Hi Fi/Audio/Video/TV magazine conclude otherwise in their reviews of digital interconnects and video cables.
For instance the difference in image and sound quality varies tremendously between different HDMI cables. The very best are the most expensive, and not justifiable in a budget home cinema system. A mid-range system warrants a decent HDMI cable, starting from around £50.00 ($78) upwards (think QED Qunex). Some of the HDMI cables around that price are good enough to be used with more expensive systems, but the very best home cinema systems will benefit from the very best, but more costly, video cables.
Likewise with Hi Fi system interconnects, whether analogue or digital, and with loudspeaker cables.
A budget system justifies the use of interconnects up to a certain price level, but go above that level and you are wasting your money. A mid-range system deserves better interconnects, but again only up to a certain price level. Top-end hi-fi systems warrant the very best, and most expensive cables.
Those who invest in the best interconnects for their budget,mid-range/top-end systems, within the respective price bands suitable for each category, reap the benefits of improved image and sound quality, and in many cases the improvement is vast.
The Mac Pro is a top-end workstation, in my opinion the best there is, and justifies the use of top quality, and even the very best, interconnects. Particularly where the best image and print quality are a necessity.
Fortunately, USB 2.0/Firewire 800 prices bear no comparison to those of video/audio cables. Even the very best USB 2.0 cables cost no more, if not less, than budget system rated video/audio interconnects.
Incidentally, I have spent less than £50.00 ($78) on top of the range USB 2.0 cables, with the most expensive being a 3m Lindy Premium Gold (currently £18.99/$29), which runs from one of the Mac Pro's rear ports to my Epson Stylus Pro 3880 A2 Colour Inkjet Printer.
It is imperative that I obtain the absolute, best quality print up to A2 size, and I am obtaining this with my system via an interconnect costing a fraction of the cost of the printer.
It is a case of horses for courses. If the cables which are supplied with whatever ancillary equipment you are using are inadequate (most are, and some devices do not even come with any), buy the best interconnects you can afford.
    Regards,
    Bill

  • Skype usb connect telephone

I just converted from PC to Mac. I plugged in, USB, my "old" Phillips Skype telephone and nothing. What do I need to do, in order to axctivate my Skype USB connected telephone? Thank you

You would need drivers from Philips.  I'm not sure what model you have but looking at the Philips support page there don't appear to be Mac-compatible drivers which means the device was probably never designed to run a Mac.  You can try contacting Philips to see if there are.  If there aren't any from Philips or a 3rd party, it isn't going to work. http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?slg=en&scy=us&mid=Link_Software&ctn=VOIP3211G/37

  • AiO Remote Ink Levels etc not accessible with USB connection

My printer prints and scans just fine...except that it ran out of ink after about 15 pages. I'm trying to view the ink levels, but everything in the HP AiO Remote says it's not supported with the USB connection. There's no other way to connect my printer. I need to view the ink levels and be able to put in new ink, but I can't because the software isn't working right. Help?

    Hi @HnnhSmth95,
I see by your post that you are unable to view the ink levels by a USB connection. I can help you with this, but I will need some more information.
What is the full name and product number of your printer? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
    Have a nice day!

I was previously able to use Active Print on my Ipod to print to my usb connected HP officejet 6110 all in one.  Now, however, with my Ipad version 2 I can no longer get this to work.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

    Hi,
HP do not provide any USB connection solution for iOS.
As Active Print is a 3rd party application which provide this functionality, i believe you may find a better help within Active Print support as they more familier with their application requirement and functionality:
