Midlet on Symbian UIQ

I tried a midlet with emulator and it run correctly (SonyEricsson P910 and Nokia 6600) but when i tried it on the phone the midlet return the exception " java.io.IOException: Symbian OS error= -33: errore sistema" . Why? i have to do something on the phone? It give the error when the midlet try to connect to an URL. It send data in output (to url) but it doesnt receive response. Can someone help me?
Thanks
Paolo

Better to use IBM's J9 VM instead of CrEme and check the results.

  • Is Flash Player released for Symbian UIQ 3.0?

I have tried for long time to find flash player for
    Sony Ericsson
    UIQ series
But the result is failed. I don't why Adobe/Macromedia not
    released the version.
    When I was searching for
UIQ 3 phones in sonyericsson site, they mentioned flash
player is there in the phone. At the time of buying they are
removed from their site. They are not mentioned any reasons for
    remove.
I am searching for Flash player for more than 8 months. There
    is no use.
    If any one knows any
3rd party plug-ins also ok for me.
    Thanks in advance.

  • E61i's bad s/w!!

Don't know if Nokia ppl are taking a note of the messages being posted here. I live in India and i just recently bought an E61i. Since then, even though i kinda love this ph but i'm disappointed to see a real **bleep**py s/w loaded on this device! I dont know how can Nokia release such a product with a prototype-grade s/w. Yes, the s/w hadn't matured enough to be productized. The s/w version of my set may be little old. And the latest may be some 2.xx.xxx. I know i will be advised to upgrade the s/w if i talk to Nokia but the fact remains, ppl have already cribbed and verified (saw in some other threads) that latest s/w also is of no use! Then!! what is the way out??
There are too many problems in this ph. Actually way too many to describe and write them here. Overall, I'm very disappointed Nokia!
just listing couple of problems here
    (1) UI refresh rate is too bad! moving from one screen to another screen, you can see screen is not updated smoothly!
    (2) response is very slow!
    (3) It took a whole evening for me to transfer my contacts from previous ph to this one and then update them properly the way i want. i faced some inconvenience here as the Contacts options didn't allow me to change the type of the ph number from mobile to teleph! i had go a round about way!
    (4) after spending a whole evening on contacts, today morning i just installed and uninstalled BB. and i found while uninstalling BB, all my contacts are wiped out! Can you imagine???
NOKIA!! what's going on with you?? where are you getting this s/w from??

My problem with my Nokia E61i.
    1. I am using SplashID to record my notes. Its terrible slow compare to my old palm treo 600. I read an url last night that 1 user said, he try splashid in SonyErricson and seems much faster than in Nokia. So must be something different in Nokia Symbian S60 compare to SE Symbian UIQ
    2. If I surfing to website www.detik.com using 3G, after several time it will quit itself
    3. Sometime it restart itself
    I am using FW 2.0633.65.01
But because I use voip so much in e61i, I have to stick with it, maybe if iphone 3g launched, I'll change to it.
Hope Nokia improve their Symbian stability
    thanks

  • Connectivity with SE 950i

    Hi guys from Apple,
Just got a Sony ericson mobile phone, a W950i. I choose an SE phone so I could synchronize with my Mac, because I was told that SE and Apple are ok together.
I was quite surprised when I noticed I could send my contacts, and files, but iSync doesn't support the phone. So, no syncing of addressbook, calendar and tasks. Quite annoying, as older SE models, even in the same productbranch (for instance a SE W900) do seem to be supported... Even my old phone, a Nokia 6230 could do the trick.... Next time I'll check better, but please fix this!!
Or does anyone here know a trick to this?
    Cheers
PS I put this up here because I wanted to send it on a feedback form, but that started asking for passwords :-S

This has been a popular (read heated!) topic of conversation on these and other Discussion forums for over a year now.
The Sony Ericsson W900 (supported) and W950 are completely different phones technically. Just because they have the same W9xx in their model number doesn't mean they are in the same 'product branch'.
None of the new Symbian/UIQ-based Sony Ericsson phones are compatible with iSync - including the M600, P990, W950, P1, M610 etc.
Fortunately, (or not for you), these are the only SE phones that don't work with iSync. All others are are natively supported, or supported via Phone Plugins from here.
For more information on why they're not supported and a few workarounds please see below:
    http://mobile.feisar.com/uiq3.html
If you can, I'd suggest changing your W950 for one of the other 60+ supported Sony Ericsson models, if syncing is important to you.

P.S. This is a user-to-user forum, so Apple staff won't read or comment here.

  • Why nokia uses very cheap plastic for N79?

I bought a Nokia N79 for 350 € one month ago. Although my ultimate care and even I used a special protecting case for the phone, there were little scratches all over the front plastic cover. I wonder why nokia used very cheap plastic on the front cover for a very expensive mobile phone?

Volume increases in 10 steps and last step, from 90 to 100% is like someone that suddenly turn a 1000w speaker right in your ear. :-) This is not normal and it was so easy to fix before to sell this phone. Maybe no-one tryed the phone before to sell it.
Album Art search is an automatic procedure from iTunes to Winamp. I don't have to use pcsuite, don't have to download from phone. Btw it doesn't appear, better than an error.
Let me say, about the clock alarm. I'm a doctor. To have something complete to make quick photos to wounds, procedures and so on or make videos, I thought this could be a great phone. I used the phone alarm of this phone only two times and never use it again. I lost a morning appointment and to awake for the night turn. It sound funny now, but let's try to imagine my anger when for years I used a cheaper phone, never getting late. I don't sell nuts, with all of my respect for nuts seller.
Why do I have to use another piece of software when the included one should function? It is like to harvest an arbor because it doesn't give you fruits without trying to think why and look for a solution. Did I give too much water? Is it infested by some bugs?
Symbian UIQ, rest in piece, decided to use Opera Mini as defalt browser. That is a cure. If Symbian OS doen't want to use it has to solve its bugs quickly or send an advice through that stupid My Nokia service saying that browsing experience will not be so easy.
You buy a phone because you don't want a Ferrari. You buy a phone for the specifications write on the box. In Florence, you can't try the phone before, sorry man. It would be really nice but you can't. You buy for radio and radio doesn't work, you buy for camera and shoot button doesn't do auto-focus, (now repaired), you buy for a simple mp3 player and you are going to lose audition, you buy for a phone and thanks God it works . You give every single cents hoping for a positive experience and you change manufactuer because this one gives you - now - what you are looking for. I'm not a SE, Motorola or Nokia fan. I read reviews and compare trying to have an idea. That's what we do, all of us.
I respect your point of view about S60, I am excited about wonderful programs to watch divx - by the way tv-out is choppy, ugly and something to not try if you have an n79; I thought it could be wonderful for my presentation... let's forget it - to do sport and to buy some useful cheap, read the humour, map for Nokia Maps. No, really I know this is a great software, I love open source and hope that will arrive more and better apps when it will be open, but you buy a phone for what's on. Not for what it could do in future with bug fixes. Tomorrow I will sell it and maybe never see that bug fixed.
An example: Apple. IMHO is getting worst that before. I'm not an Apple fan but I have to admit that it knows how to work with software and hardware. It prefeared not to put mms and other functions on its iphone because...
...who knows. The point is: less software to fix means better experience for end-user and quality of firmware releases. With three, or something similar, releases Apple covered many of what the users cryed for in less than two years. Remember, every basic function was at best. Nokia sold n79 and 5800 quite in the same time. Firmware release of n79 was ridicolous, 14 pages of fw after four months? What did you sell it for Nokia? Wait four months more. 5800 is an interesting phone, different from the iphone, full of great features and great bugs.
At the end, I respect your idea of evolution of a phone and its getting better day by day, while I need that a phone is ready to go since first start even with some bug, because noone has no bug, but not ridicolous bugs. That's why Nokia pi22ed me off with this n79.

  • E75 email & Internet connectivity is driving me cr...

Usually with all the Nokia phones i owned... i can select whenever i want to hook to a 3G or 3.5G connection or just select a Wifi instead. With the E75, I dont have the luxury of selecting the connection i want which cause all the email or web browsing applications to not work properly.
Since yesterday and Im trying to make the email link to a 3G network to sync my email, but im not successful until now. I dont know what to do next?
Also for some bizzaar reason, when it used to work, i only gets email notifications from Yahoo and Gmail while my corporate email, MSN and AIM dont give me any notification when i get an email! I also dont know what to there?
Is there a software update that will fix these bugs?
    Thank you
    Regards,
    Feher

    Hi Feher,
I noticed that Nokia E75 introduce new access point selection system called 'Destination'. It allows you to group access point with priority, this is however, isn't new, you can find some SE's Symbian UIQ phones implement it already.
I think you can set-up your 3.5g and 3g manually (if it didn't pre-seted by E75) and grouped them in 'Internet' then prioritise (or make default) one of them which suite your need (3g/3.5g/Wi-fi).
FYI, when you are asked what access point to connect, you might only be able to see the 1st priority access point on the group (Internet, WAP, Intranet, etc), but actually you can select the non-default one by pressing the soft key option then 'select access point'.
This is not applied to the **bleep** Nokia e-mail, you'll have to provide your default access point in the e-mail setting since it does not have 'always ask' option.
So if there isn't already, create 3G AP manually and make sure to set them on ur e-mail settting. Also create and set your preferred AP for browsing in the Browser Settings.
As for the e-mail problem, sorry, I have no idea You're obviously not the only one who experience similiar problem.
The **bleep**-poor auto-config plus laggy interface of it also already make me sick since I use it from the first time, the old s60 e-mail client is definitely more robust.
@all Anyway I know this will sound funny (and YES it is), but if you really have to use your corporate e-mail, may be relying on 3rd party application (yes, we'll need to spend MORE money after buying this expensive phone) is not really a bad idea, at least while waiting for fix from Nokia. I'd suggest an application named Profimail from Lonelycatgames, just google it. :/
I personally do not use the Nokia e-mail for bussiness usage, so I'll just bear with it
    Regards,
    Whizz

  • TomTom NAVIGATOR 6 installation problems on N73

TT Navigator 6 won't install on my Nokia N73.
TomTom HOME offers some Destination units.
Destination unit: 'Symbian Series 60 3rd Edition' reports 'Program not compatible with phone'.
Destination unit: 'Symbian UIQ 3rd Edition' is accepted, but the following continuing installation on disconnected phone, reports unable to complete!
Will be greatful for any support.

I've got the same problem. I am trying to install "NAVIGATOR 6 - Software & Maps of WE" onto my Nokia N73 phone.
I have connected my phone to the computer as a mass-storage-device, and this appears in TomTom-Home.
I have installed the latest version of TomTom-Home (V1.5 Build 032).
I have selected "My Device" as a "Symbian Serias 60 3rd edition", which is correct for the Nokia N73 (running the latest firmware V 3.0704.1.0.1 19-01-2007 RM-133).
When I do this, ALL of the application choices within the "Application" window of TomTom-Home are greyed out...including "TomTom application for S60" !!
Despite this, if I select "TomTom application for S60" and try to install it, I get the message "This item is not suitable for you TomTom device".
I can quite happily install maps, POI etc, but NOT the actual TomTom application.
I have contacted TomTom support, but as yet have no reply!

  • J2me midlets doesn't wok at all on Symbian

    Hello.
Such problem occured. I'll try to describe it:
Midlet midp2 doesn't install on smartphones with Symbian OS. An error is displayed:"Installation failed.Wrong version",at the same time this midlet midp2 can be installed on other phones and work properly ( i mean without Symbian OS).
    For e.g.
On the Siemens S65,which supports midp2, midlet works properly.
At the same time on Nokia 7610 smartphone, which supports midp2 too, it can not be even installed, but Midp1 midlets work properly on Nokia 7610 smartphone. Maybe wrong OS Symbian version or..?? Your advices?
    Thx for your cooperation.

    Hi,
I think it may be your MIDP version which is causing you some problems.
I have a nokia n-gage which runs the Symbian OS and I have successfully installed a MIDlet using the MIDP1.0 and CLDC1.0 profiles.
Sounds like the version of Symbian that you are using does not support the MIDP1.0 profile, I know for sure that the Symbian version that is running my n-gage does not support MIDP2.0

    1) Have you looked up the symbian error -36 on new-lc?
    2) Have you tried the example in the response on forum nokia?
    3) Is the address "121.97.220.162:8084" accessible from the internet, on the device, on the specified port?

  • Is there *any* way to ping MIDlet using default SMS/call (j2me)

    Hi,
I'm writing a server style MIDlet which is polling a bluetooth device, the nature of the server is such that the phone running the MIDlet (in my case, a Motorola L6) is dedicated, it needs do nothing other than run the server, it is assumed it will not be used for anything else. Specifically the only phone calls or SMS messages it receives should be specific ping requests to server. The server will run 24/7, and should be resistant to being suspended by incoming calls (I've noted this could be a problem in itself).
All I really want is for a 3rd party, without any special client software, to be able to ping the server (prompt it) to dispatch a set of text data to a pre-defined phone number via SMS (using WMA TextMessage).
Basically someone should be able to set up the server, and then, with any phone (with no specific client MIDlet installed), be able to call or SMS the server and get a response posted back (to a fixed number, not necessarily to originating phone number).
Does anyone know any way, no matter how hacky (needn't be pretty), to achieve this? You cannot receive SMS notifications on default port. An incoming call will call pauseApp which I could use - but not resume it, so server remains suspended. There are ways around having app suspended on receipt of call/SMS, but they involve never receiving the pauseApp notification, so I'm back to square one. I've wondered if I could check the free disk space on the MIDP profile (somehow) to 'detect' when it reduces in size, thus suggesting an SMS must have come in. Can a user send an SMS to a specific port with standard SMS-send interface (certainly can't see how myself, as no ':' character available). Can you hack the phone to re-route incoming SMS messages to something other than the default port?
Is there a specific phone that might do this (I just need a phone supporting j2me bluetooth API, needn't be motorola L6)?.
I think this can be done with Symbian (of which I know very little), and ultimately I might need to start programming with that, but I'd really prefer to continue using j2me..
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I've spent a fair bit of time trolling for answers with only limited success.
    Cheers

The tunnel default gateway is needed to let the internal firewall and router handle the routing for all decrypted IPsec packets. Today, after a Cisco IOS? EasyVPN Client connects to a Cisco IOS EasyVPN Server, there is no simple way for the client to send the tunnel traffic to the internal corporate network (other than to have the entire routing table on the IPsec gateway). In this type of implementation, the Cisco IOS routers use the default gateway to route all packets toward the Internet that do not have a more specific route. The tunnel default gateway gives customers the flexibility to control how they handle IPsec tunneled traffic

  • Why is it so hard to migrate to Symbian?

I decided to switch from my Sony Ericson/UIQ phone to an N8 and quite honestly I have transferred most of the 500 contacts tediously over single bluetooth to messages at a time.
Before you tell me about OVI suite etc, many people may not have a PC, or may not get to install the Nokia Suite, or simply are scared or more bloating of their PC's.You should make handset to handset data portability.
I pulled out an old 6630 I had with a full address book, youre datastorer.sis file you send over does not work in older phones. UIQ rejects it (application is invalid) and so do the 2nd getn Symbian phones....
The issue is that you still don't support multi vcf support multiple VCF business cards as single messages instead of just reading the first card and stopping.
Why is it so hard? You guys at Nokia should know that people just give up, if they don't get to personalize their phone and get their data on, they just return it and go for another phone. So serious effort needs to go into this.
In comparision I got I got the (SE) VCF frile from the N8 and emailed it to myself picked up the email with my iPod/Iphone/iPad and in under a minute I had the 500 contacts in Apple devices.
Maybe instead o trying to invent augmentned reality gizmos you can focus on getting core functionality right. Maybe people will be able to switch to Symbian. If it is impossible to switch to Symbian no one will.... why not make a iPhone App for people to dump their data in a way it can be pulled into a Symbian phone....  Lots of people are sick of their iPhone and the battery shenigans.....
Make symbian an Option you can choose....

Yes but that depends you putting your data on some US based juggernaut or 3rd party that probably you may not trust with your personal data.  I personally don't.
This is essential functionality that is necesary for customers to adopt Nokia products and Nokia should not be letting 3rd parties whether or how easy it is to migrate to their devices.

  • Some Questions on MIDP 2.0 on non Symbian phones

    Hi,
I have been reading around on this forum seaaarching for some answers.. but all i can seem to find is a mix of hazy suggestions. Nobody seems quite clear on these issues. i am windering if someone out there has some definate answers.
    1. I have been reading that you can listen for incoming SMS by listening at a specified port. From what i believe.. if you intercept the message and do whatever you need to do with it.. there is never any chance of it reaching the phones inbox. Is this correct?? If this is correct is there someway that you could listen for a message and if it was not from the specific sender.. dont process it and send it to the inbox?? Ideally in my application I would like to be able to intercept SMS, read them and then later be able to see them in my inbox.
    2. If I have my application running and I receive a phone call.. what happens?? Does it allow me to take the call and then return to my app?? Or do i have to intercept the call in my application and process it?? (If this is the case will I be able to see it in my call log). Also if I want to make calls from my application will i be free to use the number keys to punch in a number and the phone allows me to make a call?? If i call a number from within my code by clicking on a link I probably wont see this in my call log - is this true??
    3. Does the Wirelesss Messaging API allow me to process and send MMS messages??
(Sorry but I just dont have a non Symbian MIDP 2.0 phone at the moment)
    All answers appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hi,
Shmoove thought you were on vacation... you still have not answered my last post ;-) dukes wating for you!!!
Brian, you can make calls from within your MIDlet using your MIDlet class's platformRequest() method.
    e.g.
this.platformRequest("tel:"+ myNumber); //from your midlet class
MyMIDlet.platformRequest("tel:"+myNumber); // from elsewhereAs for what does the phone do with an SMS bound for a specific port?
well that depends on the idiot who was the project manager for that device model. Some pass it on to the inbox if there's no listener for that port, some dont. It's better if its not forwarded to the inbox as more often that not its not going to be in H.R.F.
    cheers.

  • MIDLET working fine in emulator but not working on mobile!

    hi,
i have an application which sends http request (get), it works fine in an emulator but when i install that application onto P900 sonyerricson it doesnot send the request and after sometime gives symbian os error:-33
pls. let me know the solution!!
    thanks

A WAP access point means you're using a WAP stack, and you have to go through a WAP gateway to get to the internet. With an internet access point you use a TCP/IP stack and so you can "talk" directly to the internet. Look up tutorials about WAP if you want to know more.
But as far as your MIDlet is concerned, all you have to know is how to change the phone's configuration (manually I mean, not with the J2ME code), so that it uses an internet access point. I don't have a P900 lying around right now, so I don't remember exactly how to configure it, but I'm sure if you search through the SE forums you'll find an explanation,

  • Want  help to autorun midlet

    hi all,
i want to a run a midlet whenever mobile start and also is it possible to run a midlet in the back ground till the mobile on.
    waiting for reply.

    Hi,
This is not possible within an MIDP compliant application. MIDP does not specify methods and mechanisms for that. It's only possible for the manufacturer to influence start up behaviour of a mobile, like starting up the start-up-animation, searching and connecting to the network, retrieving info about new sms'es, etc etc... It's not possible to add applications or MIDlet to a certain "startup" folder like in MS-Windows. Unless a manufacturer provides a public API for that -- something like registering a MIDlet to some startup 'entry' or something -- but as far as I know, no one does(, yet!).
As far as I know, it's also impossible to run a MIDlet in the background of the mobile phone software (i.e. OS). Is there a mobile that has a feature with which you can see the current running applications (like a system taskbar in desktop Windows or like the memory management app in Windows mobile), I believe that this is not possible yet. However, Symbian devices and Windows Mobile devices will come closer to such a thing and in the near future this definitely will be possible. I don't know if this is already possible with the latest Symbian generation mobiles.
    Cheers,
    Jasper
