Midori bookmark menu

i upgraded midori yesterday and it appears ive lost the bookmark menu from the top of the window. has anyone else lost this option since the upgrade too? maybe it's a configuration issue, but if it is i can't seem to find it. i know there's the bookmark option in the tools menu, but the drop-down menu for bookmarks was very handy and time-saving for me. i'd like to fix it

ok thanks for the speedy reply. that is a bit of a bugger, the drop down scrolly bookmark menu was quite speedy. i'll have to look for a different browser methinks, i have quite a large amount of bookmarks and even though theyre organised into folders, when i scroll down through them with the arrow keys the sidebar window doesnt scroll down with them. and its also a hell of a lot of scrolling i need to do with the mouse each time i need to access some bookmarks.

  • Bookmark menu freezes up when I try to delete or transfer bookmarks to another folder

Last March, I transited from a Mac-based XP to a new desktop with Win7. FF was working fine and I was backing up my bookmarks with Xmarks/Sync.
I used XMarks/Sync for the transfer of my bookmarks in the new machine and I upgraded from FF9 to 11. I did not create any new add-ons.
All appeared normal except that in upgrading to 12 soon after, I found that I lost the Bookmarks organizer. This was a handicap as I used it frequently to tidy up my bookmark folders. I was forced to resort to a click-and-drag method to achieve the same result and this is when I discovered that this was “freezing” the bookmarks menu list (on the LHS of FF page display). Once I had moved or deleted one item I was unable to do it again. I tried to release the blockage by moving the cursor over the page or over the header bar, it seemed to work once or twice then no more.
I had to wait several minutes between each bookmark transfer or deletion. I found that by logging off & on FF, I could remove the waiting but doing that non-stop on a large scale started causing Internet problems and besides, the unfreezing of the bookmarks stopped working with that also eventually.
I really do not know what to do.
Uninstalling and re-installing FF12 did not help. I only have 4 basic add-ons like dictionary, translator and Pop-up blocker. I use AVG "do-not-tack".
It seems to me that whenever I make a change to my bookmark list, FF is “waiting” for something else to complete it (i.e.: Foxmark/Sync?) and it is that unknown feature which causes the lengthy hanging. I am probably wrong but I really do not know where to turn for help at this point.
Anyone PLEASE? Thank you in advance.

Thank you cor-el for your comprehensive response, I have began to follow through each step sequentially and the first link already disabled half of my add-ons, which is fine with me. I do not think I will miss them.
Since FF works fine except for the bookmarks freezing, I found one option which seems to target that perfectly so I will proceed with this one first and hope that it will take care of the problem.
    Great support work, thanks again,
    Arlette

  • I have followed instructions for importing favorites from Internet Explorer, but they do not show up in Bookmarks menu as shown in the support instructions.

I just downloaded Firefox 3.6 and followed the instructions for importing Favorites from Internet Explorer. Firefox said the import was successful, but the Favorites do not appear at the bottom of the Bookmarks menu (below "Mozilla Firefox") as shown in the Support instructions. Where can I access my Favorites?

You can usually find the imported IE Favorites in a folder ("From Internet Explorer") at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks).<br />
If you can't find them in the "From Internet Explorer" folder then try this:
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File

  • In the topmost Firefox menu with File,Edit,View,History,Bookmarks, I can not get the list of bookmarks to display as they did before. The Bookmarks menu does not open up into the list of bookmarks.

I am running Mac os 10.6.8 and Firefox 6.0.1 on a MacBook Pro and on a desktop Macintosh.
The large computer displays a list of bookmarks when you click on the uppermost Bookmarks menu.
The MacBook Pro displays the following when you click on the Bookmarks word in the top menu:
"Show all Bookmarks, Bookmark this Page, Bookmark all Tabs and an icon with a blue dot next to Bookmarks Toolbar with an arrow to the right and below that it says Unsorted Bookmarks.
There is no display of the list of bookmarks from which I can chose as I do on the larger desktop macintosh computer.
How can I get the list of bookmarks to show as a list when I click the Bookmarks menu?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Just for those who are interested, this is what cleared the "bookmark menu"  trbl I had.
    Open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Bookmarks, then reselect it.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a bookmark again.

  • How can I synchronize "bookmarks toolbar" and "bookmarks menu" ? They have different bookmarks now.

I just noticed that the firefox sidebar has an entry for "bookmarks toolbar" as well as "bookmarks menu".
somehow, there are differences between the bookmarks in the various subfolders though they are probably 90% identical. There are far too many to go through by sight (I have over a 1000 bookmarks).
    1. Is there an easy way to synchronize the two locations ?
    2. Or, if not a direct way, are there two separate folders for these two bookmarks locations in Windows so that I can synchronize the two folders with a folder synchronization application ?
I want to get all of my bookmars under "bookmarks menu" then empty out the bookmarks toolbar entirely. The resulting bookmarks will be uploaded to override the xmarks folder on their server.
    I hope you can help.

    @brjoon1021
:I did not mistake the Bookmarks menu on the toolbar. If you check the bookmarks menu on the toolbar (the equivalent button) and it is behind, look in the bookmarks sidebar and you will see the updated bookmarks. I doubt that destroying places.sqlite will fix the problem --but it will lose your history which would be far worse.
Look in the Bookmarks sidebar ("Ctrl+B"), you should see three main folders
    # Bookmarks Toolbar
    # Bookmarks Menu
    # Unsorted Bookmarks
If you import bookmarks, all of the bookmarks you import will be added to the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu, which you may very well see as duplicates, if what you imported them from something similar to what you already had. That is what "newsplexer" appears to be seeing.
Previously in Firefox 2 Bookmarks Toolbar was "Personal Bookmarks" and was a folder in the "Bookmarks" folder, importing then placed imported material at the bottom of the Bookmarks folder, what happens now is imported material is added to the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu. If you have a "Bookmarks" folder and a "Bookmarks Toolbar" as a subfolder at the '''bottom''' of the Bookmarks Menu it is not the same, as the actual "Bookmarks Toolbar". The actual Bookmarks Toolbar is also shown as a flyout menu at the top of the Bookmarks menu (I don't know if it suffers from the same lag as the Bookmarks menu, fixed by restarting Firefox).
I find the Bookmarks menu to be almost useless and very slow, and inaccurate after making extensive changes, and instead use the Bookmarks sidebar to examine bookmarks and bookmark structure, and the Bookmarks Library List to examine detail. And even adding scrollbars to the Bookmarks menu does not make it very useable to me.
Firefox 6 attempted to put the Unsorted Bookmarks back into the Bookmarks menu at the bottom not as a flyout as was done for the Bookmarks Toolbar, but as a link to the Bookmarks Library List with "Unsorted Bookmarks" selected.

  • I have two versions of my bookmarks under the bookmarks menu

I have 2 versions of my bookmarks in the bookmarks window - one after the other, but I can only access the first one in "show all bookmarks" Unfortunately, the second one is the one that is being updated when I save new sites. How can I get rid of the first version that shows up when I try to access bookmarks from the bookmarks menu?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • I have been organizing my bookmarks into folders. There are a bunch of bookmarks that appear on the Bookmarks Menu that do not appear when I used the Organize Bookmarks option. Therefore I can't organize them. How do I get at them and move them to folders

I used Organize Bookmarks to put some bookmarks in folders. When I had done all the bookmarks that appeared outside of folders in the Organize Bookmarks window, I closed it and looked at my bookmarks menu. Under my folders were some other bookmarks that I hadn't seen in Organize Bookmarks and when I used it again, they still weren't visible. Therefore, I couldn't move them into folders.

Update - I discovered that the entire list of bookmarks can be accessed in the Organize Bookmarks window by clicking on the icon for Bookmarks Menu.
This seem like odd interface behaviour to me.
All the other software I use follows the pattern that an icon with a triangle to the left, which you click on to expand the menu tree downwards, shows the entire contents of the category when you click on the triangle. In other words, you don't get a different response by clicking on the icon from what you get by clicking on the triangle.
It also seems odd to me that when an unsorted bookmarks folder is automatically provided that unsorted bookmarks would not be placed there by default.
Anyway, by getting the list of bookmarks displayed this way I was able to simply right-click on items in the list and delete them, as I thought I should be able to do. Problem solved. Organize Bookmarks interface found to be somewhat unintuitive.

  • How do I add a bookmark directly to bookmark menu within 2 clicks like I used to be able to in the previous version of firefox?

Whenever I use the new bookmark button in firefox it puts the bookmark in unsorted bookmarks and I want them all to go into the bookmark menu instead like it used to.

Thank you, the addon works great after I figured out how to set it up. Just 1 click now to add bookmarks to the bookmark menu with it.

  • Lost the contents of Bookmarks Menue, can i recover it from time capsule

    Mac OS 10.8.3/Safari 6.0.
items previously in my Bookmarks Menu are no longer lited. Can they be recovered from Time Capsule, If so please explain how? Thank you.

Triple-click the text on the line below to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Quit Safari. Disable Safari synchronization in iCloud, if applicable.
    Select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window should open with a file named "Bookmarks.plist" selected. Restore the file from a backup that predates the unwanted changes. If you disabled sync, re-enable it and test.

  • Purpose of the Address Book and the Bookmarks Menu

What is the purpose of the Address Book and the Bookmarks Menu under the show all bookmarks? What is a useful way to use the two? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
In Address Book, you have the option of entering a web site address in an individual's record. In Safari, by selecting Address Book in System Preferences>Bookmarks, you can access a list of these web addresses via either the Bookmarks Menu or Bookmarks Bar.
Entries in the Bookmarks Menu are one way to enter, sort or access specific bookmarks. My preference is to access my Bookmarks via the Bookmarks Bar. More information can be found via the Safari Help menu (enter Bookmarks in Help's spotlight panel.

  • I turned the Bookmarks Toolbar (BT) back on per posted instructions (Relax...!) and no BT appeared. I've also lost the Organize Bookmarks option in the Bookmarks menu. I'm using a Mac 10.5.8. Restoring back to Firefox 3.6.whatever didn't help.

Upgraded to Firefox 4.0 earlier this week (4/11/11). Have been using and recommending Firefox for years (in spite of the websites that don't work well on it) but liked very little of the new 4.0 look (flat, colorless, buttons not very visible against theme graphics...) Do like the new Zoom buttons (thank you for that!), but re-arranged all buttons immediately. Don't like Tabs on Top - changed that - and turned the Bookmarks Toolbar (BT) on as well. Tabs shifted correctly, but no BT appeared... The Bookmarks sidebar works fine, but I no longer have Organize Bookmarks in the Bookmarks menu.
Today (4/16/11), after trying to revive the BT several times, researching problem in support, trying out the App Tab (OK, but not a substitute for BT), I restored to previous version of Firefox. The window looked like what I remembered, except the BT was gone. Aaarrgh! I've done nothing else to Firefox or my Mac recently.

  • Firefox is no longer letting me save bookmarks at all. I have tried the bookmarks menu and star icon in my url address line. how do I fix this?

Only my third day with a new computer. I have always used FF and it let me bookmark the first two days with this computer (Mac desktop, OS X 10.6.4). I'm not sure if I accidentally set it to do this or what. When I press the star or go in manually to the Bookmarks menu to add a bookmark, nothing happens at all. There are no new screens and I looked in the menus to see if anything was added anywhere and there is nothing. My recent bookmarks are still there and working though.
    THANKS!

  • "organize bookmarks" is no longer in my bookmarks menu and the drop down bar for my bookmarks toolbar has disappeared

I can not longer delete bookmarks from the bookmark file since "organize bookmarks" is no longer an option in Firefox 4. Also the bookmarks that didn't fit in my bookmark tool bar used to be accessible to the far right of the toolbar in a drop down menu. Now I have "bookmarks" in my bookmark menu taking up space instead of a drop down arrow with just my selected bookmarks that didn't fit in the toolbar.

"Organize Bookmarks" has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks" in the bookmarks menu.
The Bookmarks button is for accessing the bookmarks that are not in the bookmarks toolbar. You can hide this button, if you do that, to access other bookmarks you can click the orange Firefox button then select Bookmarks.
To remove the bookmarks button, right-click on the Navigation toolbar and select Customize. This will open the customize toolbar window. Drag and drop the bookmarks button which will now be on the right hand edge of the navigation toolbar and drop it onto the customize toolbar window. Click Done to complete the process.

  • How do I get toolbar bookmark items to display in the bookmarks toolbar instead of in the Bookmarks menu | Bookmarks toobar submenu?

When I add bookmarks to the bookmarks toolbar, they don't appear on the bookmarks toolbar (duh...) but appear instead in the Bookmarks Toolbar submenu inside of the Bookmarks menu.
How do I get them to appear on the bookmarks toolbar itself?

You can check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key to make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible:
    *"View > Toolbars"
Open the Customize window to set which toolbar items to display:
    *View > Toolbars > Customize
*Firefox menu button > Options > Toolbar Layout
*Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
*If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
*If missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
*If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up
