Mifi 4510L and 4620LE throughput slows throughout day eventually locks up in 24-48 hours. New Update?

Hello all. I have had a Mifi 4510L for about 6 months and its behaved pretty well. A lot of drop outs but it would reconnect and keep going. I bought a 4620LE last month and tried it for a couple of weeks. I noticed when I first powered it on it said it was installing an update. After the first day where it seemed to work fine, I rebooted it to leave on while I returned to my home.
The mifi unit is on a farm about 100 miles outside of town and is my only link to my farm and observatory (via gotomypc). I can monitor the observatory, close the roof if weather turns bad and take images of objects in the sky. Well its obviously a very high priority that the connection be maintained unless I want a 200 mile round trip drive in the middle of the night.
So the mifi 4620 was great on paper but but as the day went along it would get slower and slower. If I restarted it it was normally good for another 24 hours. However one nite it decided to stop working at 1:30 AM which caused a 3 hour drive to find it had just plain locked up. So I took it back and returned to using the 4510L with out difficulty again even though it was a bit choppier but comparatively very reliable.
Then last week the same affliction began with the 4510L. Getting slower and slower throughout the day unless restarted. And today having forgotten to recycle it yesterday I'm getting ready for a 3 hour drive to go power cycle it.
So I have a couple questions.
1) Have there been any new updates that may have occurred lately and is there anyway to roll back the updates if this is true?
2) I have a powerstrip ordered that can ping the mifi unit continously to see if its down and then powercycle the powerstrip its attached to. It can also do that every day at a certain time. I would have to take the battery out so when the power is cycled for 10 seconds it would shut off then back on.
The main question on this is, is there a way to have the mifi unit power back on in an active mode instead needing the button depressed to bring it back to life?
For information I'm about 5-7 miles from a tower and am using an external antenna with a 3 watt amplifier. It ha always preformed well, well until just before Xmas.
Thank you all for any help to a tricky situation!!

Hmm interesting on the power strip idea. I've written some software that can remotely manage my mifi (performing web requests to restart it). If I remove the battery from mine (only powered via usb or outlet) it just goes into an endless loop of powering on and then off again. How'd you get yours to stay powered on?
My software doesn't work when the mifi has crashed though

  • MiFi 4510L and Macbook Pro Retina

    Hello,
Anyone get a new Retina MBP working with the 4510 MiFI unit?
This same MiFi works flawlessly with my other Macbook Pro (2009) but with the new Retina MBP I get a connection but no browing/internet access.
The password has been confirmed via review in the Keychain and any other WiFi networks I connect to work without issue.
Searched online and can not find others with a similar issue.
Any ideas on how it can connect to other networks but this one MiFi fails while the same MiFi network can be accessed via a different model MacBook Pro laptop???
    Regards,
    Steve

    Steve,
What you are describing here is either a password problem or a incompatibility issue between your device and the default settings of the MiFi 4510L.
The first thing I would do is re-enter the WiFi password on your MacBook.  Since I'm not a Mac guy I wont be able to tell you the steps necessary to accomplish that goal, but I'd bet you can figure it out.
If you can confirm that the WiFi password is getting entered correctly then the next step would be tweaking the MiFi.  I'd suggest changing either the WiFi password to WPA or change the 802.11 wireless mode to B+G.
    Remove/Change the WiFi password
    Navigate to http://mifi.admin
Enter "admin" in the textbox in the upper right hand corner
    Click the WiFi tab
Change the security of the device:
Change Selected Profile to Open Access
Change the Security from WPA2 to WPA or WEP
Update your WiFi password if necessary
    Click Apply
    Test your connection
    Change the 802.11/Wireless Mode
    Sign into your MiFi
    Click the Wi-Fi tab
Change the 802.11 mode from B+G+N to B+G
    Click Apply
    Test your connection

  • I have a MiFi 4510L and it is erratically going dormant while still having a green light.

Have to reboot to run again. Will the card out of this unit work on any other WiFi units or do I have to buy another 4510L?

Dormancy is a feature that is built into all Jetpack devices.  It is not a defect that needs to be corrected, rather it is an indication that something may be wrong with your actual connection with the towers.  All devices will go dormant after a device stops sending or receiving data for a determined amount of time.  Devices will go in and out of dormancy as frequently as is needed so long as the Jetpack is performing like normal.
The green light is a status tool similar to the dormancy status message.  When the LED light is steady green on certain models that means there is no data being transferred.  Once data starts transferring again the LED should blink Green accordingly.  This should be the case for early MiFi 4510L models.  The later models I believe constantly blink Green and the LED is not as helpful for troubleshooting.
The SIM on a MiFi 4510L is a normal full sized SIM and can be swapped with other Jetpacks of the same kind.  You need to be careful not to consider swapping with a Jetpack that uses a Micro SIM card such as the 4620L.
Again, dormancy is normal and expected with all Jetpack models.  You should be taking proper precautions and making a habit out of powering down your MiFi when it is not in use.  This will help keep your signal with the local towers fresh and active when you actually need to use it.

  • Mifi 4510l and Windows Live Mail

I recently purchased the 4510l to use while I was on the road. On the first trip I had excellent connection/speed and signal throughout. My biggest problem is when accessing some of my mail servers (mainly Mediacom) I get error 0x800ccc0e on all accounts/tries. When I switch back to my home wifi WLM checks all 8 accounts with no problems. Using the 4510l I can access my mail thru webmail but that means logging in 8 different times where my client does it automatically. I did notice that one account in WLM (yahoo) does check and transfer so it seems to be a problem accessing mail.mchsi.com thru WLM using the 4510L. I have not changed any settings in WLM since it works fine on my home network and that's where I am usually at. I did do a firmware update (2.28.02) on the 4510 but same result. This is the same situation I get in when I am at my aunts and she has a competitor cable ISP. In that case both Imon and Mediacom don't admit to any blocking but refuse to troubleshoot. Any help/tips with the 4510L would be greatly appreciated!

Verizon can be blocking some of your ports you will need a static Ip address

  • MiFi 4510L and Airport extreme

I am in the 14 day trial period.  I have 2 choices for broadband, cellular or satellite.  After 8 years of satellite frustration, I am on day with MiFi.  The speed is much better, even with G3.
Is there any way to use my airport extreme as the hub and wirelessly connect MiFi as another device.  As it stands now I have to switch between MiFi and Airport, to browse the internet  or to use my printer.
If I should have purchased a USB modem I could plug into the Airport?  If so what's a good one?
    Thanks

"I would like the MIFi modem to wirelessly connect to airport the way yet a third printer does"
MiFi's and home routers such as the AirPort do not have the ability to connect to each other wirelessly.  Cascading requires a Ethernet Cable connection in order to bypass all of the wireless security protocols.  In order to create a wireless connection a device must have a interface which allows the user to enter the wireless password and SSID.  The MiFi does not have a interface to wirelessly connect to another router/hotspot/network, I presume the AirPort does not either.  You will not be able to setup your network the way you want.
"would plugging in a USB modem into the hub or directly into airport device work?"
No.  Again a device must have an interface which allows it to send credentials back to the service provider.  Much like how you must sign into a VZW account before using a USB Modem on your laptop, a router must be able to complete the same steps.  The only exception to this would be a wireless cradle which is specifically designed to be compatible with a USB modem.  I am not familiar with AirPort routers but I assume the USB ports on the back of your AirPort are intended for File Sharing and not for USB Modems.

Thanks for your effort John, and you are right not everyone is experiencing this problem but a sh*t load of people are. and it seems to be an on going thing.
Managed to find this link where someone had the same problem.'Firefox not responding for 10-15secs' where 3362 people have reported to have the same issue.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/767246?page=2
From what i can see firefox themselves have not acknowledged this problem and there doesn't seem to be a solution unless your a computer genius with some time on your hands to experiment and fiddle around.
Unfortunately I'm just an average dumb ass, so looks like I'm going to have to migrate over to chrome for good.
    Thanks anyway

  • MiFi 4510l and VZAccess Manager

Having a heck of a time with 2 new MiFi's.  I upgraded to the 4G 4510l on 2 exisiting lines on my account replacing older 3g MiFi's.  These devices would not activate via the automated activation line.  Brought them into the local VZ store where they were purchased.  No go, they said I need to call tech support.  Something about terms of service or conditions.  I didn't fully understandt the explanation.  Tech support says the devices are already activated.  Not true.  I am unable to  get a wifi connection to the device but not out to the Internet.  When I connect to the MiFi's web gui, you can see it trying to connect to the VZ network and then it says disconnected a few seconds later.  I get a solid purple led light meaning 4g is detected but is not connected to the VZ network.  Hmm, sounds like it's not activated despite being told otherwise.
After tech support said these devices were already activated I tried to setup a My Verizon account for them.  Had to create a new My Verizon account because these devices were transferred to a business account.  In order to get the temporary password for the new My Verizon account I was instructed to open VZ Access Manager to retireve the text message with the password.  One problem, the 4510l is not supported in VZ ACCESS MANAGER!!!!  At least that is what I'm finding when Googling "MiFi4510l VZAccess Manager".   So, how the heck do they expect me to get the text message with the password if it's not compatible with vzam?
Beyond miffed!  EVERY SINGLE MIFI/usb device I've ever purchased from Verizon has had activation problems.  Our business has been through 8 mobile data devices over the last few years (new lines, upgrades, etc.) and not a ONE has ever activated without a HUGE hassle like this!
So, in review, how do I retireve a text message from a 4510l that does not connect to VZ Access Manager?  Why are these devices not activating and why is tech support telling me they are activated?
    Annoyed in VA!

  • TS1559 Every time I upgrade iOS I discover problems which take a day to fix. Please don't produce new updates!!!

i just updated my OS to 6.1.2 (10B146), and i cant connect to my bluetooth
    any idea why?

This is might because of your prior change in softwares. so first you have to do run '''sfc''' in run command. and then you see the specific problem which causes this . Since System File Checker (sfc) scan will make Windows replace corrupt or missing system files on your computer.
    * Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
    * Click Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
    * In the Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:
    sfc /scannow

  • My IPhone is now stuck on the loading screen and keeps blinking. I dont know if this is because of the new update but is there anyway I can fix it?

    Yes can someone please HELP!!

Try plugging it up to your computer and launching iTunes and either resetting it to factory settings or resetting to last sync. Hopefully it just noticing it's plugged up to iTunes will fix it. This happened to my friend once and all she had to do was plug it into her computer and that fixed it.

Macbook Air locks up as soon as you click on anything when turned on. Can't update software, can't do anything. Help please

To rule out software probem, do the following:
    Run OS Recovery
Disconnect all devices from your computer.
Boot up from your computer by holding down the command+r keys.  This will take you to the recovery drive.
Select Disk Utility & hit Return.
In Disk Utility select the HD on the left & click on Repair Disk (bottom right).
When you reach the desktop after doing the above, repair permissions & restart your computer.
    To rule out hardware problem:

  • Droid X not connecting to Mifi 4510l

Ok, where to start.  About 11 days ago I upgraded from the Mifi 2200 to the Mifi 4510l.  I currently use the mifi as my main internet connection in my house.  I run a desktop, ps3, iphone 3g, and droid x off of the Mifi device.  Every device besides the Droid X communicate flawlessly with the mifi 4510l.  When I had the Mifi 2200 there weren't any connections problems.  As soon as I recieved the 4510l I began to have problems with the Droid X.
I have talked with Verizon tech support almost every night trying to resolve this issue.  This past monday verizon sent me a replacement Droid X that upon activating and powering up had the same exact issue connecting with the mifi 4510l.  After about 15 minutes of messing with the replacement Droid X the phone powered down and I wasn't able to restart the phone so I put it back in the box and returned it.  I then re-activated my old Droid X and continue to have the same problems.  Verizon tech support opened a "problem ticket" in response to my issue, I am still unsure what that solved.
Last night "Andrew" from tech support suggested that I exchange the mifi 4510l for the samsung 4g device at my local store and see if that communicates better with the Droid X.  I went down to the local verizon store with the mifi 4510l and was told that I would have to pay a restocking fee of $35.00 if I wanted to exchange the mifi 4510l.  I decided to leave the verizon store because I was getting the feeling that they weren't going to do anything for me until I forked over more money.
So, here I sit with the Mifi 4510l that wont connect to my Droid X.  Everytime I talk to verizon tech support they tell me that they need to discuss the problem with their supervisor and that they will call me back.  So far, this has happened three times with zero call backs.  My only hope is that someone else is having the same problem and has figured it out.  I have tried all of the different security setups, different channels, different wireless modes (g,b,n), etc.  It is almost as if the Mifi 4510L goes dormant, and the Droid X cannot wake it up out of it's "dormant" state, whereas the iphone, or desktop don't have that problem.  If anyone can help me, I would GREATLY appreciate it.  I am kinda stuck.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tony

Hey, I came across this posting because I also have a Verizon mifi4510L wireless device for my apartment and its having issues connecting to my ps3.
i wish i could help you with your issue cause its sounds really irritating and silly that they arn't getting it to work properly. or listening either. but i'm not as technologically savvy which makes me need to ask about the ps3 thing-
you said you got it to detect on your ps3? or did you enter it manually?
cause, this device isn't being seen when the ps3 scans for wireless connections. i entered it maually and its telling me the characters i entered arn't valid and telling me instructions for hexidecimal and ascii imput characters.
i am a bit lost, and i wondered if you could help me. if not, anyone else? ha
thanks for any feed back. and good luck getting that droid taken care of. and **bleep** you shouldn't have to pay a restocking fee for something that doesn't work!

  • Mifi 4510L - Use Verizon Wifi Hotspots

I used to have the Mifi 2200 - and was able to cable up to the mifi - and use the Vz Access Manager to authenticate to the verizon wifi hotspots at airports, etc.
In getting the 4510, I see the Access Manager is no longer used/needed/supported, so how do I authenticate now to use the wifi hotspots...
Support, and my local store had no clue.

The Verizon WiFi web site is specific on who is eligible.... and it was part of my purchasing decision on the MiFi 4510L and my 2 year contract.:
    From http://support.vzw.com/clc/faqs/VZAccess/verizon_wifi.html#item7
Who is eligible for Verizon Wi-Fi service?
If you are currently signed up for a Mobile Broadband or GlobalAccess monthly service plan on a month-to-month, one- or two-year contract term, you are eligible for complimentary Verizon Wi-Fi.
Note: Prepaid Mobile Broadband, Mobile Broadband Connect, and smartphone users are not eligible for Verizon Wi-Fi.
So, how do  MiFi 4510L customers get this to work?

  • Verizon Mifi 4510L 4g LTE speeds of less than 2 MB

    Hello,
I have a Verizon Mifi 4510L, and am loctaed in zipcode 43402.
All of my friends 4G Phones receive ~15 MBs download. However my Mifi is only receiving less than 2 MB at anytime, even though the connection is stable. I have purchased an antenna, moved it around the house, etc... But nothing changes and remains a bad connection. I am 99.9% sure that my device is fine.
What could the issue be, am I being limited on speed because its a mifi and not a phone?

    JD,
Your MiFi does not sound like it is performing correctly.  4G should be atleast 5 Mbps when testing on Speedtest.net.  What I suggest is a level 2 reset to clear up your SIM card and reconnect to the local towers.
    Level 2 Reset:
    Power down the MiFi
    Remove the back cover
    Remove the battery
    Remove the SIM card
Allow the MiFi to sit for 30 seconds
    Reassemble the MiFi
    Test the Connection
Performance problems are normally temporary and can be resolved.  If you continue to have poor performance then perhaps there is some strong interferance where you are trying to use the MiFi.  You shouldnt have to go outside, but try to conduct a Site Survey to see if you can get any better results.  Here is a great link to walk you through the Site Survey process:
    http://3gstore.com/page/13_will_an_antenna_help_me.html
If you find a good area then I can share some info on boosters and antennas which may make the MiFi more consistent for you.  If not then contact VZW support directly through the 1-800 number.  They should be able to confirm a service problem in your area.

  • Some Basic MiFi 4510L Questions

I just received my MiFi 4510L and am already having issues. I have gotten it to work with my WiFi iPad, but not reliably. I am hoping some of the experts can answer these questions. I am in need of step-by-step instructions, if that is possible.
How can I see the log that I read about on this forum?
Why does MiFi change from 4G (green light) to 3G (pink light) when I have not physically moved? Speed correspondingly changes from 7mps to .5mps.
I have had some trouble turning on the MiFi - where after a full charge, it turns on and then immediately shuts down. I have also seen a red light on startup, indicating SIM card problem. Should I exchange device for new one?
Generally speaking how long will MiFi device run on battery? I imagine it depends on system activity, but could you provide a range of up time?
How long does it take to charge a fully depleted battery?
How can I tell what version of the operating system I have? If I do not have the latest (2.23?) how do I perform an OS update?
Many thanks for taking the time to answer.

    Hello,
    In response to your questions:
    1) To view logs:
    1. Connect to the Mifi
    2. Navigate to http://mifi.admin
    3. Sign into the MiFi
    4. Navigate to Advanced > Diagnostics
    5. Click the System Log button
    - You may have to enable your logging feature the first time.  Steps should be displayed on the MiFi.
    2) Your MiFi will automatically transition between 3G and 4G in your area depending on the quality of the signal.  This normally happens when the MiFi detects an issue with 4G when 3G is also available.  You can configure around this feature and lock the device in either 3G or 4G if you find it annoying.  I would also suggest updating the firmware to the latest as each firmware update so far has been released to address this issue.
    3) Those are all good reasons to call in for a replacement device or parts.  You might want to examine the battery and try using the MiFi without it for a while to compare.  Remember that the device will not remain powered on with a USB connection unless you are on the most recent firmware version.  Red lights are also a good reason to call in for hardware replacement.
    4) Battery life is rated around 6 hours, but I find I can normally get around 4 with normal useage.
    5) Fully charging the battery does not take too long.  I would estimate around 20-30 minutes.  I normally charge and use my MiFi at the same time though.  If you can give it enough juice to boot then you can attach the power cable later and continue to use it.
    6) We refer to the OS as firmware.  Your Firmware version can be found under the Diagnostics screen from the steps above.  Look for the value next to "Modem FW Version".
