Might be a dumb question

hi,
I was wondering what is the difference between downloading the zip files (and installing it), or purchasing the Oracle Database Standard Edition ($5000) from the Oracle store?? Is it just a trial version??
Again, sorry if this is an ignorant question. :)

The best think to do would be small talk with Oracle salesman  There are different types of license you can buy. If you choose Named User you have to buy a license for every user, if you choose per Processor license you buy a license for each processor and you can connect as many users as you want.

  • Might be a dumb question, but I am moving from 1st gen to iPadair; on Safari, 1st gen to delete apps/sites just visited, you could double tap home key and apps would appear on bottom and one could delete from there. How does it work on ipadair?

This may be a dumb question, but nonetheless, here goes:
I just moved from 1st gen ipad to new ipad-air. Great and happy! But, one thing I can't figure out how to do is to delete the pages/sites/apps that I have just used? For example, on the 1st gen. you could double-tap home button and past actions would come up on bottom of screen. I could then delete them one by one, to keep things cleaned up. Am I missing something here? Does it keep a log irregardless? Not the same as deleting history - at least didnt' work for me.

Close apps and not delete apps.
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
    3. The app will fly off the screen

  • OK This might be a dumb question....

I know that Appleworks is not going to be updated. I even have a copy of Pages already. My questions is this; I keep getting this:
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERNINVALIDADDRESS at 0x0000000017874000
    Crashed Thread: 0
When I open Appleworks anymore. It started doing this not long after I updated to 6.9. I know that Pages does almost everything Appleworks does. Except that which I use Appleworks for, drawing! I do have Graphic Converter but I do not like it as well as I like Appleworks.
My husband tried today to give me a copy of Appleworks but even that gave me the above error when I went to report it after it failed. It gets to Starting Points and crashes. I'm ready to take the copy from my old laptop and see if that one works on this one. Any ideas that might help would be appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Is that from a crash report? I don't read crash reports, so I don't know what it means. But, since this happened after you updated to AppleWorks 6.2.9, it may only need some simple "housekeeping." Whenever you do an update, it's a good idea to do two maintenance tasks, one for the system (Repair Permissions) and one for AppleWorks (delete preferences). (Thanks to Barry for this way to format this very common answer.)
To Repair permissions, launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.
To delete AppleWorks’ preference files, go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences. Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Find and open the folder AppleWorks in this Preferences folder, then delete all of the enclosed files (with the exception of the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them.

  • This might be a dumb question but i need to know?

i have the new ipad 3rd gen 64g retina display and my question is does it hurt the ipad display if you take a picture of it with a cameras flash.does the cameras flash damage a ipad screen in any way?
thanks everyone its been bugging me to know and im curios about it any answers would be great.

    No.

  • This might be a dumb question. But when...

I back up my HD is it backing up my applications like all my Adobe software or any games or anything in my applications folder? What exactly is being backed up I guess is my question? Thanks

This depends on the backup program. My software, SuperDuper, makes a complete clone of the hard disk, and other software does, as well. Time Machine backs up your drive, as well as documents you draft and update. Other software only backs up critical documents. It depends on what you want to back up.
It makes sense to back up the whole drive, since that includes updates and miscellaneous files that are on your hard drive. For example, on my SuperDuper backup, every file on my HD is duplicated on my backup. Of course, that means that you must have a backup drive of sufficient size

  • Might be a dumb question but.......

I bought a Q10 yesterday.  It's cool, so far, BUT, in upgrading, my carrier, who shall remain nameless, required I switch to a different data plan because the one I had (unlimited text, data, everything) was being phased out.  In lieu of that, I thought, no problem, I can utilize the wi0fi feature when I'm home to save on using up too much data.  That seems like a fine plan but I can't seem to get it to work.  When I go in to connect to the internet, it connects but then it seems to be sidablilng on it's own?  Is there a security setting or something I'm missing??  It would make sense to me that I should have to go in and disable the Network Settings to use wi-fi but I just don't know, now.
And are there limitations on using wi-fi, such as access to social network sites, etc?  Any guidance is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Debbie
    An Admitted-Tech **bleep**

Have you connected to your home wifi network on your Q10, i.e. on settings go to Network connections select wifi and when you see your wifi connect to it.
I have multiple wifi connections setup on mine, home, work, various coffee shops, cloud wifi etc and everytime I come in range of one of those it autimatically uses that for data rather than the mobilr network which only uses if I'm not near one of those.

  • Although this might be a dumb question but....why ...

called shazam aren't free like on the apps store for iphone..for nokia it's free BUT only for 30 days!=(...iphone is forever i think(but i don't care about iphone) please please make it free forever for nokia devices cause that app is awesome=D

Shazam is a 3rd party application. You need to ask Shazam why they are charging Nokia users and not iPhone users.

  • Might be a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway.

  • Might be a dumb question...bios flashing...

I created the DOS boot disk, rebooted, but I can't get to C drive...only A
I went through first 6 letters and none were correct.
    I followed these directions;
When you get the A:\ prompt, type the following sequence:
C: <enter> (I get an unspecified drive notice)
    cd\test <enter>
    C:\test> awdfl783m BIOS file

Get the win98 bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com , and follow the instructions for bios flashing with a ntfs-formatted system :
(the RAM-drive is important) (all out of the official MSI-document from the zipped bios-file)
(I tried it with an official 98bootdisk first but had no ram-drive, the 1 from bootdisk.com has  :D )
Flashing the BIOS for Non-FAT file system (Thanks to Forum Moderator Assaf for his valuable contribution)
1.Check your BIOS for BIOS FLASH DISABLED and ENABLE it, some boards have this function. For Example:
    K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) -BIOS setup/chipset setup/BIOS protection/disabled
    2.Know Your model number
    a. Open your case and look for the MS-XXXX number on the motherboard between the PCI slots, also check the version number that is written there as well. (some motherboards are named like K7T Turbo, make sure you have the right version number)
    b. Boot up your system & take a look at the top left screen during POST, you should see something like "A6380MS v1.7 122101" This means the board is MS-6380 with BIOS version 1.7
Hint: Many systems are clearing this message very fast, the bios version is then unreadable, you can either press “PAUSE” or disable the “Quick Boot” in the BIOS setup.
3.Download the BIOS that matches your motherboard AND version number (some motherboards are named like K7T Turbo, make sure you have the right version number). BIOS can be found according to the CPU type of your board like if your CPU is Intel P4 478 type then look here
    <http://www.msi.com.tw/support/bios/socket_478.php>
if you cannot find the BIOS that matches your board, try here <http://www.msi.com.tw/support/bios/more.php>
4.Extract the file you have downloaded to a floppy (not the win ME/98 startup floppy) by double clocking the file in windows mode and supplying the path a:\
5.Boot the computer using a windows ME or windows 98 startup disk. It must be one of these! A plain boot disk will not be good enogh.
If you do not have Windows ME or 98 to create the floppy you can make one on a friend's computer.
6.When boot is done there will be a message on the screen showing :"Diagnostic tools were successfully loaded to drive" followed by a single letter.
This letter is the leter assigned to the RAMDRIVE. This RAMDRIVE is a virtual drive in the system memory and can be accessed and controlled like any other drive with DOS commands such as:
    MD - Make Directory
    Copy - copy a file
    Deleate - Deleate a file
There is one important difference which is that being in the system memory this drive is wiped once the computer is restarted or shut down.
7.Replace the startup floppy with the one containing the flash utility and bios ROM files previously extracted in windows.
8.Copy the 2 files to the RAMDRIVE by using the DOS command copy.
Here is an example, in this example the flash utility is AWFL814B.EXE ,the ROM file is  w6373nms.220  and the RAMDRIVE letter assignment is D
    copy awfl814b.exe d:\
    copy w6337nms.220 d:\
9.Change the current working directory to the RAMDRIVE root directory, with the example case of the RAMDRIVE being drive D this is done by simply done with the command d:
10.Execute the flash utility with the ROM file as a command line argument, with this example:
    awfl814b w6373nms.220
If you wish to save the current bios you must specify the full path a:\filename. Specifying only a file name will save the bios to the RAMDRIVE which will be wiped after restarting the computer and the file will not be saved.
a:\bios.old is an example of the correct way to save the bios.
    11.Reboot your system when prompted
    12. If your system doesn't boot after you flashed, please refer to the BIOS recovery method as described

  • Might Be a dumb Question...about making an iTunes account

when you make an iTunes account
It makes you enter billing information
So is having an iTunes account free?
Just having one not including downloading songs or anything.
I want to find the album art 4 all my music but it wont let me without an iTunes account
So, Is creating an iTunes Account Free?
    No registration fee?
    Or Monthly/Yearly fee?

Yes, an iTunes account is free.
When I signed up I didn't enter my billing info and you don't have to unless you plan on buying songs. As long as you don't buy songs you don't have to pay anything and you don't have to enter your billing info.

  • Dumb question re video card

I bought a radeon 9800 pro graphics card to upgrade my 64mb. stock card and before installing noticed that the new card has one DVI port and one VGA port. the box says it runs dual displays, right now I have dual CRTs running but want to run two flat panels soon.
so the dumb question, can I convert the VGA to DVI with just a cheap adapter and run dual flats without buying an expensive converter for the second VGA port?

    Hi Prankster,
you wont be able to get dual digital support from the 9800 ...sorry.
Of course, you might be able to *physically connect* two digital flat panels to the card but one of the monitor connectors will be recieving an analog video input signal from this graphic card.
To get true dual digital support from ATI you would need the 9600 or 9700 Pro graphic cards.
    Hope this helps !
    Cheers,
    Chris Chamberlain

  • Using the USB port for an external HD dumb question

OK. Forgive a possibly really dumb question here...
My external HD has a USB 2.0 interface and I hooked it up to the USB port using a cable that came with an old USB 1 hub I'm not using right now.
My dumb question is this: is there such a thing as a USB 2.0 cable? Or are the USB cables all the same?
Also, how long should it be taking to transfer 12.1 GB of data (about 9,000 photos) from my external HD mounted on the AirMac base station to my MBP? There are still 48 minutes left and it seems an awfully long time for 12.1 GB of data. That's why I was wondering if the cable could be an issue...
    Thanks,
    doug

I am suspecting now that my HD might really have been a USB 1.0 drive...

  • Two really quick/dumb questions!

    Hi All,
I have just bought a new Mac Mini and hooked it up to my Samsung 55 inch TV via HDMI and everything seems do be working great.
    My two dumb questions are:
1: where on the new OS (I had a Mac 5 years ago and things have changed) is the top "Finder" bar and "disc" icon to save files?
2: In Safari I do not seem to have a tools bar where I can for example open another tab for a new web page.
Hope you can help a nubby :-)

You are running a Mini so it might be that the screen resolution is not exact for your display. I have used a Mini with a conventional display but not HDTV. You might need to go into the settings for the TV to set the screen resolution to accommodate the mini's capabilities. Sorry that  I can't offer more on that score; when I use my Sony Bravia HDTV  it is with the iPad2 and HDMI and I have encountered no issues. Perhaps someone else on the forum has better insight into the Menu Bar problem on the Samsung as the principal display.

  • This is in the category of "dumb" questions. I am adding a new iMac running

This is in the category of "dumb" questions. To my home office that includes
a 2003 power pc G5 running system 10.4.11, I am adding a new iMac running
Lion. Question - can you share files back and forth (e.g., a Word file, camera images) by simply
coupling the two computers through USB ports? As opposed, for example, by burning
a DVD and using that in the other computer.

Why wouldn't you just use the network to share files, then?  Simply set up a folder on one of your systems (I would recommend the Lion system) for sharing, turn sharing on, and then connect to it from the other system.
