Might Be Too Basic for This Area, But Here It Is...

I am almost 100% sure on going for the latest 17" MPB for school, home, work, all of it, but mainly for a grad degree in architecture. I have a difficult time grasping computer stuff-I think it is a right side brain disorder. anyway, in looking through many of the Posts I have a good "feel" for what problems have been a real issue without any solution yet. they seem to be in the internet/networking area and the problem originated with certain updates. Any suggestions what to watch out for or in configuring the notebook that I might want to think twice about. Like a "useless" device added just to increase the price a couple hundred bucks?
As far as having the internet, I am wondering if any of the cards the computer comes with will also allow getting connected to the internet easier and more problem-free than the others. I will stick with Airport Extreme (an older model 802.11n Wi-Fi) in the dorms and home. Also, with all the various ways to get on the internet is there anyway that can utilize (now bare with me, I am trying to word this correctly) that does not have the fastest connection but is "broadband" and allows me to keep up with school work while on a road trip In other words it seems that the technology should be there so that I can put a credit card sized wifi in the room or near the computer and use one of the cards in the new computer and a modem-type mini device that will work for a drive, short weekend trip, etc.
I hope this is not sounding too nerdy, but I have been behind a desk for 8 years using the cable/ethernet high-speed connection that seemed to always work. (unfortunately it was at work ;-)) I am aware of the USB modem from some of the cellular companies, but I was hoping a service existed that used the air or other card that I am not aware is in the new 17" MBP for something like I tried to describe.
If that made any sense feel free to shoot back at me anything you are aware of. Hot spots will not be secure enough for me. I am too paranoid, but that same type of technology and might use the cards that seem important but should be used more than what they currently are used for. Oh man I don't know. would like to take my computer and do some homework out of the typical boardroom environment.
thanks much for at least attempting to understand what I can't quite get it into the right words.

If this Post is too "out-there" let me know and I will try and remove it or make it answered. I am not sure if I can remove/delete it, but I do not want to seem like I am ruining the image of these boards.

hex-
is this "wireless card" something that is built into the notebook and Sprint can connect to it somehow or is this an external device like what the person mentioned? Is it a USB type device? And it is 3G not 4G, right? Thanks I will have to check this out. I do not think I will hit 5GB unless I get into streaming video or get addicted to online gambling. I do not yet understand all the "cards" that Macs have inside and why they can't be used to do something like what you are talking about. When I purchased my first MBP, I thought the "air card" was exactly for this. Stupid, but I did. It is always best to ask a pro. It was no big deal because I ended up using it, not sure if I used all of it but the Airport Extreme needed the card and it had another card that hot spots used. anyway, enough of what I would like, back down to reality.

  • Final Cut Pro 6 by Diana Weynard: Format too New FOR THIS VERSION OF APP?

I purchased the book book Final Cut Pro 6 by Diana Weynard and it is a basics book overview of FCP However it comes with CD and I have downloaded the CD to my hard drive and when i open the files in
FINAL CUT PRO 6 it says:
FILES FORMAT IS TOO NEW FOR THIS VERSION OF THE APPLICATION.
I did go to the website and download the updates.
I have upgraded osx to 10.5.5
    FCP is at 6.0.4
    Quictime Pro 7.55
    Whats going on?
I bought this book. And when I try to play the Lessons it says FORMAT TOO NEW FOR THIS VERSION OF APPLICATION?
    Are my settings wrong?
I have seen this same thread and now answer. I would appreciate some major help from the top users on here! thanks guys

the projects included with this book were built with and for FCP 6 ... if you do not have FCP 6 then its no good to you.
what version of FCP are you running? with FCP open, choose *Final Cut Pro* menu *> About Final Cut Pro* and see what version it says there in the splash screen

  • Host Agent Service critical - Paging file is too small for this operation to complete

    Hi all,
at the moment I have the problem that some of my hosts get in the errorstate critical in VMM 2012 SP1.
The error details in VMM are:
    Error (2912)
An internal error has occurred trying to contact the hostname server: : .
WinRM: URL: [http://hostname:5985], Verb: [ENUMERATE], Resource: [http://schemas.microsoft.com/wbem/wsman/1/wmi/root/cimv2/Win32_Service], Filter: [select * from Win32_Service where Name="scvmmagent"]
The paging file is too small for this operation to complete (0x800705AF)
    Recommended Action
Check that WS-Management service is installed and running on server hostname. For more information use the command "winrm helpmsg hresult". If hostname is a host/library/update server or a PXE server role then ensure that VMM agent is installed
    and running.
On the host i cannot connect to FailoverCluster or Hyper.V Manager. After a restart of the host the Problem is gone and the System is working without any Problems for some days.
The paging file is set to 4GB and the OS is Server 2012.
The hosts have 192GB of RAM.
The configuration of the pagfile didn't change from Windows 2k8R2 to 2012.
I didn't find any Errors in the eventlog. Do you have any idea where to check for that?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

The hotfix didn't solve the Problem for me either. The WMI crash came again after a couple of weeks.
An additional problem with VDS was detected and the following hotfix was installed:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2884597/en-us
Also a problem with Clusterservice was found, sadly MS is tagging this handle leak as "won't fix".
Nevertheless one WMI Instance is still growing...
We are testing a hotfix that so far looks promising. Its a private hotfix only right now. But the file is listed as KB494704 you may want to ask your support engineer to look into it.

  • I want to install Mountain Lion on my 2008 iMac. My current OS is Snow Leopard 10.8.6. I've heard ML may be too much for this iMac. I would appreciate anyone's advice.

I want to install Mountain Lion on my 2008 iMac. My current OS is Snow Leopard 10.8.6 and there is 4GB RAM. I've heard ML may be too much for this iMac and may slow it down.  Has anyone had any problems with this upgrade?

See > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs OS X Mountain Lion requires a Mid 2007 iMac or newer, and your iMac can run Mountain Lion without any problem. 4 GB of memory are enough for Mountain Lion, but if you are going to use heavier applications, maybe you will need more RAM
Before upgrading, you must make a Time Machine backup and/or a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner, and check that your applications are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • Cpu is too old for this kernel

I downloaded and burned Arch No Panic ISO before 5:00 am today, then I went to the train and started travelling to my parents, it took about 10 hours. Now I am in their house and I wanted to install brand fresh new Arch Linux on my old K6-2 500. All I saw (after many dots) was:
cpu is too old for this kernel
    WHY????
686 is not enough today? for installation?
PS. could you recommend small distro with gcc and SDL and Mesa? Slackware? Ubuntu? OK, let's get serious, Slackware?

I know k6-2 is an i586 family processor, but there are two problems, first the name, beacause of the 6 in k6, it can make suppose that k6 means i686. but the main problem is the fact that the official_Arch_Linux_Install_Guide at http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Off … tall_Guide says something like this:
    Pre-Installation
Arch Linux is optimized for the i686 processor and therefore will not run on any lower or incompatible generations of x86 CPUs (i386,i486,i586). A Pentium II or AMD K6-2 processor or higher is required. x86-64 architectures are also officially supported.
"A Pentium II or AMD K6-2 processor or higher is required"
now, there are two options: the official guide is wrong, or you would have to be able to install on a k6-2 microprocessor even if it is an i586 one. if is the secon opcion the question is "how?" because i thry to install arch on a k6-2 500mhz with the same result: "cpu is too old for this kernel"

I finished adding my transtions to my timeline.  I was having crashing issues so I shut down everything before I rendered the project and now it tells me that the project is unreadable or the file is too new for this version of final cut. What Happened?

    What Happened?
No way for us to know.  But if your system was crashing, there definitely was a problem.  The FCE error message you got normally indicates the FCE project file has been corrupted.  This probably happened due to whatever caused your system to crash & shutting down the system.
First, make sure your system is running correctly.  Then, use the Finder to navigate to /users/yourusername/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents/Autosave Vault and find the most recent backup copy of your FCE project file.  Copy the file to your Final Cut Express Documents folder (copy the file, don't just move it).  Then double-click the copy to open it in FCE.  It should open ok, but will probably not have your most recent edits (transitions).  You may have to rebuild the transitions, but at least you will be back in action.

Have you recently reinstalled FCE and forgotten to update it?

This thread is pretty old, are you still having this issue?

  • First call attempt fails with 12000; reason="Routes available for this request but no available gateway at this point"

We've installed a new Audiocodes Mediant 1000B gateway for our customer.  They only have about 6 users enabled for Enterprise voice and using Lync for all calls.  They have an intermittent problem whereby the first call attempt to a number on the
PSTN fails with 12000; reason="Routes available for this request but no available gateway at this point".  There is only one PSTN gateway installed.  All routes point to this gateway.  What I found initially is that the calls
were failing after 10 seconds which is the default "failovertimeout" in the OutboundRouting.exe.config.  I found this post http://voipnorm.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/lync-2010-gateway-timeout-call-failures.html and
changed the value to 20 seconds.  Subsequent failures failed after 20 seconds (the new value).  The interesting thing is that the second attempt even a couple of seconds later succeeds.  My Lync server event log has 46046 "A call to a PSTN
number failed due to non availability of gateways." for the failed call and 46047 "A PBX gateway is now responding to requests after some failures." for the successful call moments later.
My environment is Lync 2010.  A single enterprise edition Front End with collocated mediation.  The server is virtual and in a different physical location to the gateway.  The two sites are connected via a LES1000.  The RTT between the
sites is very low so it isn't necessarily networking.
In the Syslog output on the Audiocodes we don't see the call even reach the gateway.  It's likely that Lync has simply marked the gateway as down and doesn't route the first call.  Then it wakes up and marks it as up and routes the next call.
Update wise I'm on 4.0.7577.183, 199 and 217 for those that are up to date and the only components that are behind say that 223 is available.  Those being Core Components, Lync Server, Conferencing Server and Web Components.
As I said, this is intermittent, apparently doesn't happen for every user (which I don't buy), but is easily replicated on request.
I definitely think changing the failovertimeout value has reduced the number of failures.  But realistically I don't want users sitting there for 20 seconds before their call fails.  Or 19 seconds for the call to route.
I've found a few posts on this and similar issues.  I don't get the 25051 or 25052 errors.
    Any help gratefully appreciated.

I have created a site with iWeb. I have replaced the iWeb Nav bar with a vertical one I made myself. Problem is, my top button disables itself (and the animation doesn't work) if it overlaps into the "hidden" nav bar area (indicated by a blue rectangle). I can cmd click and drag it into this area, but then all the rest of my site is pushed down the page. Don't know what to do about this. I don't know how to bring the rest of the page up without dragging it also into the designated nav bar area. Also, by doing this, is it affecting my site in ant way? see my site here at www.steveburrowsimages.com
The home page is with it all draged into the nav bar area and the about page is with is outside the nav bar area (notice that the top button does not animate or work as a button.
Getting confused here. Anyone got any ideas?

Well, you made a good start with SEO by getting rid of the iWeb default navigation since it doesn't help the spiders and, out there in the real world, there are more people than you would think with javascript turned off in their browsers.
One of the downsides of iWeb is that it doesn't allow for the alt attribute in the img tag. Its well worth adding these to give you extra keywords even if you have captioned all your images. Use iWeb SEO Tool for this...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Tags.html
iWeb, just like most drag and drop software, creates a huge amount of code which causes the pages to load slowly in the browser. Running you files through an optimizer will help to reduce this problem and further reduce the size of image files even beyond the initial optimization you do before loading them into iWeb...

This is a little confusing since you say you have forgotten your password and then the system says you have not entered a password.  Even with an Admin account you must have a password to install software.
If you are using Mac OS X 10.7 or above, you can change the admin password by restarting holding the Command and R keys, from the menu bar select Utilities, then Terminal.  When the Terminal window opens, at the cursor type exactly:
    resetpassword
and press Enter.  When the Reset Password window opens, select the internal hard drive, and then the user account.  Type a new password twice, leave the Hint blank, and then Save.  Accept the next dialog that opens, and at the bottom of the Reset Password window agree to resetting the home directory permissions.
Quit the Reset Password window, go to the apple left side of the menu bar, Restart.
And you have a new password for your account.

    Hi
I got the same error and it actually prevents from getting further, because its treated as an error.
"ERROR: To be able to use ASU Toolbox, your system requires at
least Support Package Level 8 for the ST-PI software component

2008_1_620 does not have a level 8, so it must be refering to the 2005 version of ST-PI.
Update SAPup.exe (in <upgrade dir>/bin) to newest version.

    Hi,
I noticed that the error "550 5.2.3 RESOLVER.RST.SendSizeLimit.Org; message too large for this organization" is related to SendSizeLimit. Please change the Maximum send value to 26MB and check whether the issue persists.

  • I am too old for this

I can't open a disk that has photos stored on it.  The error message is:"Invalid jpeg marker." Other disks work fine.

The title of this post "I am too old for this" reminded me of someone that used to post to the Photoshop forum.
Still around but under another name.

I have a Galaxy S3 and love this phone but here at my new home which has absolutely no trees of bushes blocking anything, my phone calls are dropped ALL THE TIME and it's driving me crazy.  Verizon finally said that they would come out and boost the signal but haven't seen anyone in two weeks.  I have called Verizon tech help for one year to get help with this, either trade phone or something.  I am so frustrated!  I picked Verizon for the clear calls and coverage inside hospitals and buildings but it's been terrible.  I have had three of these phones replaced.  I need a different model like the S4 or the S5 I think cause it's something in this model.

Verizon is quickly becoming the worst cell phone company out there.  To read all of these pleas from your loyal customers is just so sad and pitiful.  You need to be sued for your data overage charges that you are intentionally imploding on your customers.  They have pleaded, very intelligently, with you to do something to fix the issue and you willingly have NOT.  As is with my reception issue that I was promised a signal booster for two months ago, so is this issue with the data.  You don't follow up and solve the issues.  Therefore the courts will find you fraudulent. When I was promised by your super tech that I needed a signal booster and he was sending it out overnight at no charge to me, I was relieved that it would finally be taken care of so I wouldn't lose faith with Verizon.  Well, that was two months ago now with no record of it ever being ordered or on my file anywhere.  I have since called three more times with hours of conversations about that issue and two more techs have told me they were sending me a signal booster with no follow up what so ever.  WOW!  That's pitiful!  You may not care now, oh but you will later when you lose lots of money and business.
