MIGHT MOUSE NOT SO MIGHTY

i've dumped my preferences and nothing works. Mr.Mighty mouse just won't scroll up, time and time again. It works fine some time, then just quits again.
i swear, between Adobe and Apple, I think i'm going to scream.
anyone have any suggestions before i go buy another logitech?

I don't have a solution for you other then I would return it and get another. I would never give up my Mighty Mouse though (aside from a little hand pain), I've had not one problem with it yet. I've had several mouses and although logitech is a great mouse (in my opinion), it doesn't compare to the Mighty Mouse (once it works properly). Hope you get the problem fixed. Sorry for not actually helping here, just had to throw in my words.

  • Mighty Mouse (not so mighty here lately)

My mighty mouse sat in retirement for about a month because the batteries dies and I just never got around to replacing them. Finally...yesterday I went and bought some batteries (Energizer...not some cheap ones) and put them in. The mouse worked fine for about the first hour. Then it lost connect...then it'd connect...lose connection...connect. Well, maybe the batteries were duds...so I put in new ones. NOT!!! Still randomly disconnecting. I went in and looked at my settings and nothing has changed (that I can see) and I don't get it. I've had this mouse for over a year and this is the first trouble I've had with it. Any help? Suggestions? Ideas?

Okay...so I went back to check the settings again and I got this box when I went to the mouse and keyboard tab in my system preferences
"The Bluetooth tab of Keyboard & Mouse preferences is hidden because you don't have a Bluetooth module installed or attached to your computer."
***? Unless someone snuck into my laptop and removed it...what's the deal?

Easy fix, get a cloth, microfiber is best, get it damp, spit works;), turn the mouse up side down and roll the ball in all directions with the damp part of the cloth. Should take care of the problem.

  • Mighty Mouse - not so mighty now.

OK, firstly apologies - I have a problem with my mouse but as there is no forum for mice and I have a Mac Mini, I'll post here.
My mouse's scroll ball will not scroll downwards, only up and side to side. I thought maybe some dirt has got into the mechanism and tried to take it apart but I got as far as taking the battery cover off and couldn't see how it comes apart, without breaking it.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Bluetooth Might Mouse Not Detected in Boot Camp Windows XP

Title says it all. I'm using a Mac Book Pro. I've slid the bottom of the mouse open and closed and a dialog actually came up to enter the pass code. I did, it was successfully set up but my mouse won't move. I have to go to my track pad...

I got it to work. Just using Winblows...blows. I had to open and close the mouse & click and move with it about a thousand times and added it about a hundred times before it started to work. I'm sticking with my Logitech Laser Mouse.

  • Mighty Mouse not right clicking

I have noticed that my mighty mouse will NOT work on the right click function, particularly when I am on the desktop. If I am working in mail for instance, it WILL however allow me to right click .
Are there settings or preferences that may have gotten corrupt?
When on the desktop, if i rightclick, i get s slight pause, then the desktop re writes itself, yet no right click menu will appear.

It seems like something is up with your Mac OS X.
Did you try left click and ctrl before you bought your mighty mouse? Or did you always have your might mouse?
Please try the following...go to applications>utilities>disk utility
select your volume and fix permissions, then on the right click on check disk. This will take a couple minutes.
Let me know if you get any errors. Those red type things
Or did you do this already?

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse NOT smooth! (Fixed!)

I have been having a problem lately with my Wireless Might Mouse, that the tracking was very, very poor and mouse movement was not smooth. It was almost to the point of being unusable.
I've discovered what the problem was and thought I'd share it: the mouse was simply too far away from my MacBook Pro. That sounds like an obvious thing, but my desk setup is a 23" Apple Cinema Display in the center of my desk, and the MacBook Pro on a stand to the upper left of the screen. The mouse pad is to the lower right of the Cinema Display. The way it was positioned, the display was acting as a big panel blocking the diagonal line of sight from the mouse to the laptop. While I understand that bluetooth does not rely on line of sight, it does severely degrade when big metal obstacles are placed in the way!
I noticed that with the screen not in the way, the mouse performance is perfect and smooth even at 3 foot distances.
I mention this just in case anyone else comes across a similar issue with their setup!

BT also uses the same range of frequencies as do some wireless and cordless phones and also microwave ovens.
BT uses what is essentially a public frequency band, so in addition to reflections as you so well pointed out, there are other reasons for BT devices "acting up."
Also other BT devices can cause "stuttering" by jamming the other devices, even though they are not coupled. They essentially create a high noise level.

  • BT Mighty Mouse not working

My MacPro with Snow Leopard operating in BootCamp mode with Windows XP will not load Mighty Mouse as a viable BT device.  It does not recognize the passkey, even with the "no passkey" option.  What's up?

Bob, when you say "turning the mouse on and off," you mean, simply, unplugging it from the USB port, right?
The side buttons of my MM just stopped working totally, as if they weren't there. Unplugging and re-plugging seems to have done it.
Sometimes, however, the side buttons seem to take on a life of their own, randomly clicking just when I put my hand on the mouse. It's rather annoying having all my open windows suddenly visible on my desktop, and maybe a random window come back to the front. Anybody else have this experience?

  • Part replacement for Apple Wireless bluetooth mouse ( not mighty)

I am looking for a bottom panel for my old apple wireless bluetooth mouse (not mighty). My son has dropped it down and that is how is not switching off anymore. I am thinking about replacement of that anyway removable panel (you remove it to place batteries),so I guess this part must be around somewhere. Any help is appreciated, thank you very much in advance!

    Hello m:
The only people that can answer that are the Apple people. As far as I know, those parts are not available from the web site.
Frankly, I think I would buy a new mouse as something may be damaged internally.

  • The (not so) Mighty Mouse

In theoretical functionality the Apple Mighty Mouse is superior to other mice regardlessly.
In practical use, it is a pain in the arse because the scroll-ball stops functioning after 1-2 month-s.
    . . . .Why? ? ? ?
Well, a scroll-wheel is on an axle which doesn't get affected by dirt or other substances and particles put on the (for the user) visible part of the wheel.
In comparison, the scroll-ball works quite differently since it has to let the user have a 360° control over scrollable content.
In conclusion, the scroll-ball of the Apple Mighty Mouse lets dirt and other small, hardly visible materials easily pass to the internal section, where it affects the mouse's functionality after a given period of time, namely around one to two months.
    -- End of Introduction --
So, I am asking you people in the Apple discussion forums, if you can help me out with my situation. The scroll-ball has stopped functioning a couple times in the past, but started working again after a couple of days. Now however, it has completely stopped working due to that same reason. What should I do? Will the Apple retailer store swap my current, flawed Mighty Mouse for a working one? And will they do so over and over again since the cause of this problem will repeat itself, until Apple finds a solution?!?
I am very sad, by the way.
I love the scroll-bar; and the Mighty Mouse really is mighty in its elegance and versatility.
But that's exactly what I want back!! Help!

Be aware that the mouse contains electronic components that may be damaged if water drips from the cloth into the mouse via the seam around the scroll ball or around its underside.
    That's what the article says.
Doesn't really encourage me to do it...
    Edit:
I just cleaned it for five minutes with a slightly moist, lint-free cloth. It didn't help however.

  • My Might Mouse is spazzing out!

Hi! We got a Mighty Mouse with our iMac (flat screen) about a year and a half ago. Several months ago, the mouse started causing weird problems. For instance, when there is more than one window open, the windows just start voluntarily deciding to jump to the front. Or sometimes all of the windows will sort of fade to the background so that I can see them all, but none of them are front and center. It's so aggravating! I'll try to shut one of the windows, and just as I get the cursor to the little red dot, the windows decide to switch. Occasionally this has happened when I'm not even touching the mouse.
So, anyway, we pulled out an old mouse (not Mighty Mouse) and used that for several months. Well, we finally decided to replace it with a new Mighty Mouse, and as soon as we plugged it in, it started doing that spazzing out thing again! It never did it with the old, non-Mighty Mouse mouse. So, does anyone know what the problem is? Is it a problem with Mighty Mouses, or am I doing something wrong with the Might Mouse? Has anyone else run into this problem? I'd appreciate any and all suggestions. I still have the receipt and I can return it, but I don't want to buy another Mighty Mouse if there is a problem with all of them. TIA

Since I don't have a Mighty Mouse with my Macs,
the disadvantage in my reply is not being able to
try this out ahead of time to see if I can duplicate.
This original 'flat panel' forum, is about iMac G4s.
Yours must be a newer Intel iMac. But the control
panel should be similar enough to check this out.
With the Mighty Mouse, do you see any different
control panels to make settings in the Sys Pref
under either the Keyboard & Mouse, or another?
How are the settings under Universal Access
when the Mighty Mouse is attached? You may
have options there which are affecting this item
when it is attached; and not a regular mouse.
Mouse (and trackpad in portables) offer settings.
These in Universal Access can affect actions.
Also, an older Mighty Mouse may have other
issues after some time - a required cleaning.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Second button on a wireless mightly mouse

I just got a wireless mighty mouse. Despite everything, I cannot get the right click to engage. It's done it like twice, but not come back. I've tried setting it to multiple functions and that doesn't matter. I think it is just the mechanics of the click. Anyone have advice. I'm frustrated since everything else I've ever bought from apple just works out of the box.

FWIW, you're not alone. These two threads have similar descriptions of the same problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=592098
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2824263
We have two BT MMs at home, one with the problem, one without. Returning the one that was having right-click problems to our local Apple Store and swapping it for a new one fixed the issues I was having (without needing any software uninstalls / reinstalls, which is what makes me think it's a hardware issue affecting some subset of the mice).

  • Mouse not working when reinstalling OS X with install disk

I am trying to reinstall OS X 10.3 on iMAC G5 after a hard drive crash with the help of the original install disks, but my wireless mouse does not work anymore. Any ideas how I can solve this or go through the installation process with the keyboard alone? I couldn't find a keyboard shortcut to tab from a list in a window to the select button...

    *Just in case it's dirty:*
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302417 How to clean your Mighty Mouse
Take a piece of bright white paper, turn the mouse upside down on it, press down on the ball, and run the mouse quickly in circles over the paper. This will remove all the gunk that's building up on the ball
TIP: To get to the gook inside the scroll nipple use a plastic toothpick.
"Other Options:" Wear latex disposable gloves. A box of same can be purchased from your local Dollar Store or Pharmacy.
Some cell phone leather cases actually fit right over the Mighty Mouse.
Clean/wipe the Mighty Mouse off with a damp cloth/rag prior to going to bed each evening.
Some users have found using the small alcohol pads quite successful. These can be obtained from any drug/pharmacy or Dollar Store.
Only do the following if your warranty has run out:
Cleaning inside and dismantling the Apple Mighty Mouse
If so, then I suggest (if your 1 year warranty is not up and/or you have Apple Care Protecton Plan) you call Apple Tech Support & ask for a replacement.

  • Might mouse scroll ball issue

I got my Might Mouse just about a year ago. I'm having issues with the scroll ball. It works scrolling up with no problem, but scrolling down it does not work. To be clear, it can scroll but it doesn't make the page on Safari scroll down with it.
Anyone else have this issue? Any way to clean it?

  • Magic Mouse not not able to open folders or files

Magic Mouse not able to open folders or files on desk top. I can drag folders around but not able to open either with a double or single click of the mouse.
Tried an older BT mouse with same effect.
    Command O works fine.

    Hey there kwilli2,
It sounds like your mouse left click is not functioning correctly. I have a couple of things to recommend and see what might be happening. First check in the Universal Access preferences pane to see if either, the double click speed is set to high.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Universal Access.
Click the Mouse & Trackpad tab.
For Magic Mouse, click Mouse Options to show these slider controls:
Adjust the sliders to your preference for double-click and scrolling speeds.
From: Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse: How to adjust double-click and scrolling speed in Lion
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4930
If lowering the double click speed does not resolve the issue, I would next try these troubleshooting steps in this article named:
Troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3048
Mouse buttons do not work as expected.
The Mouse preference pane allows users to customize the mouse features to meet their needs.
Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Mouse from the View menu. Set the Tracking slider to adjust how fast the pointer moves as you move the mouse.
Try using a different surface to see if the tracking improves.
Turn the mouse over and inspect the sensor window. Use compressed air to gently clean the sensor window if dust or debris is present.
If multiple Bluetooth wireless devices are in use nearby, try turning them off one at a time to see if the issue improves. Bandwidth intensive devices could affect tracking.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
