Mighty Mouse a Problem?

I bought my mighty mouse in the weeks after it came out because i accidentally broke my original mouse which came with by iMac rev.a. I have had a few problems with my mouse in the past weeks and wanted to know if anyone has had similar problems.
1) the scroll button works great when going up page but hardly works when scrolling down.
2) the side buttons are overly sensitve and after long uses, even if my hands are nowhere near them, the mouse triggers itune to open (the app i have programmed for the side buttons)
Thanks MZAK21NYC

A couple of thoughts:
1) The side buttons are very sensitive. You only need to be near them to have them activate sometimes. I finally just disabled mine.
2) Many people have fixed their Mighty mouse problems by simply un-plugging the mouse and plugging it back in.
3) The rollers under the scroll-ball (or the ball itself) might be oily. I used to like track-ball mice until I found out how frequently they needed cleaned. The oil from your fingers would get on the ball, which would then coat the rollers. Then, the ball would simply slip over the roller instead of turning the rollers. So, you might need to clean the roller ball. I've done this several times using damp clothes on mine. Water, or rubbing alcohol should be fine. Just make sure it is a damp cloth, don't apply any liquid directly to the mouse. And, roll the ball with the damp cloth in all directions. It may take some time to get it all clean this way. It's better when you can open things up and get it clean from the inside.
If none of the above works, then contact Apple and get the mouse replaced.

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse Tracking Problem

I'm finding that sometimes my mighty mouse is not tracking downwards.
During these blips it will still tracking left / right and upwards.
When this happens, I can feel that the 'wheel' is not engaging the internal mechanism that drives the scrolling / tracking. After sometime of operation the mouse starts tracking again and I can physically 'feel' that the 'wheel' is engaging the internal mechanism.
Does anyone know if this is a common problem, does hte mouse need to be cleaned inside? Do I need a new one??

  • Mighty Mouse scrollball problems

Hey all, I'm having a few problems with my scrollball on the Mighty Mouse, it keeps refusing to scroll down from time to time. It still scrolls up and sideways, just not down...
It occasionally works sporadically when I forcefully scroll it, but this also brings up the Dashboard window.
Anyone else having the same problem? And quick fixes/solutions without resorting to a new MM?
My mac is under the Apple Protection Plan, so I could get a new mouse if needed, but I don't want to resort to that...

SuperAdam is correct. The oils from your fingers causes the gunk to accummulate. You will need to wipe your Mighty Mouse down every once in awhile.
Once a week I unplug the MM & wipe it down using a damp cloth or paper towel. To remove the gunk from around the scroll nipple, use a plastic tookpick.
Another tip: Unplug your keyboard & run the vacuum hose over your keyboard keys once a week to suck up the dust particles and/or crumbs if you eat around your computer and/or if you have pets (dogs or cats).

  • Mighty mouse scrolling problems

I'm having trouble with my mighty mouse scrolling. It was working fine now not. I just replaced the batteries after indicatortold me to do so. I've tried re-loading the software (though the install routine called it an upgrade).

    Mine wont scroll down.
    Up, left, right no problem.
If I put the mouse near my ear I can hear a soft clicking when I scroll up, left or right, but no sound when I scroll down.
I have tried cleaning and pressing hard, etc.
I just got off a 47 minute troubleshooting session with apple support and they finally agreed to replace it. I can't believe how nontechnical and unknowledgeable the level 1 support at apple is. It was clearly a mechanical trouble and I described it very clearly, yet they insisted on making me log into other accounts, check preferences, replace batteries, etc. On top of that I was put on hold several times while the tech checked with others about what to do and filled out forms, etc. I have to say I really am not happy with apple support based on this and all previous experiences. On top of this I have to give a credit card# as collateral until I send the defective unit back. If that is the policy why don't they save the 47 minutes and just process the replacement just like the cell phone companies do??
Oh well. Good luck to all of you with your mouse problems..

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse/Bluetooth problems

Good day to you all, ladies and gents!
Right, well I have attempted some research on this and it seems that there's quite a few other people that have issues with the Wireless (not so) Mighty Mouse.
Mine keeps cutting out. Basically just clicking and moving it around like a mad hatter reconnects it in a matter of 5 seconds, but it's getting really bad, and I've had this iMac for well over a year, I've only really been noticing it in the last 3/4 months or so...
The upgrade to 10.5.7 didn't sort it out either...
I don't use my bluetooth for much else, just transferring photos from my phone, and that works fine... My Apple remote seems to work fine too..
Sorry if there's already a forum dedicated to this issue, if there is I couldn't find one an I'm a noob!
    Thanks!

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
How to Clean a Mighty Mouse
    Minimize Bluetooth Interference
(I have to keep my TV remote more than 3ft away from my wireless MM, other wise is disables the mouse and TV remote isn't Bluetooth)
Check System Preferences/Keyboard&Mouse and click Bluetooth.
Sometimes just re-pairing the mouse can help

  • New Mighty Mouse scrolling problem

My just-out-of-the-box Mighty Mouse will not scroll horizontally nor 360. It can't be dirty yet, and the posting referring to artnum=303446 gives instruction for what is way out of my league in the event that someone wants to recommend that approach.

Sorry that I wasn't more clear. What I meant is that the Mouse pane in Keyboard & Mouse is new or at least different for the wireless MM. Those of us with the wired MM have two check boxes Vertical scrolling and Horizontal scrolling, while those of you with the wireless have that new pulldown menu.
Did software come with the new wireless MM or is it just activated and made available when the new wireless MM is detected? There was a post the other day and the guy linked to a screenshot of the wireless Mouse pane. He was wondering how the rest of us could get this new pane. I said maybe it would show up one day in an OS X update. Maybe it already has, but we can't access it without a wireless MM.

  • Mighty Mouse software problem

Hello guys, I recently got my mighty mouse with my Macbook Pro. When I first used the mighty mouse with the system, everything was fine. But then I installed the CD just to see what would happen, and it deleted the default 10.4 driver for the might mouse. Now I just get the options in sys prefs for a regular multi button mouse, instead of all the customization options that I used to have before I installed the software.

Use Pacifist to examine the receipt created in the /Library/Receipts/ folder to get a list of the items you need to extract, and then use it to extract those items from your computer's original disks. Next, rerun the Mac OS X and Security updates you previously applied to the system, and then throw away the Mighty Mouse receipt.

  • Mighty Mouse Tracking Problems with Mac mini core duo

I have a new Mac mini core duo (2GB RAM, 100GB HDD) and I'm having problems with my USB Might Mouse.
The cursor stutters and doesn't track with the movement of the mouse and it will sometimes leap to a different part of the screen or get stuck at the last place it rested. At other times the mouse will track smoothly for a while before starting to stutter again. The behavior isn't consistent.
Is anybody else having tracking problems?
Any thoughts on what might be causing this behavior?
    iMac G5 20 & Mac mini 1.42Ghz, PB G4 1.67Mhz, Mac mini core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hmm, this could be one of two things. Your mac might be faulty (Harware wise) which would suck. But, hopefully it is a problem with your drivers that need updating. Try these 3 options.
    1. Update you mouse driver.
    2. Update you video card driver (Video cards can sometimes affect mouse sensitivety -don't ask why)
    3. This is my last solution, before consulting a technician (For money if you can do it free talk to one!) or returning your mini: Try reformating/reinstalling Max OSX and if u have bootcamp check out wat happens to the mouse in XP check for the same problem if it doesn't happen in XP your hardware is safe. IF the problem continues after this... looks like your hardware is bad in that case i recomend a return or send back (If your on warranty).
    GOod luck,
    Wannabe

    Hi, Guys!!
And you have some right cosmic_hippo , Why?
Well think that the real problem it's something between Firefox and Flash content...
because if i use Safari and i try make what i describe in the first post, i don't have any problem with the mouse settings.
Only Happens when i use Firefox...
    Cheers.

  • Mouse Problems on new DC G5? or just normal mighty mouse behaviour?

Hey guys i bought a Dual core 2.0 G5 about 6 days ago, and i love it to death, theres just one thing thats bothering me, the Mighty Mouse tends to be annoying at times.
Let me go into detail, sometimes i will be searching up documents or going on the internet and if the page hasnt loaded or even if it has, the mouse disapears and runs me to the bottom of the page and wont let me scroll up and then the mouse disapears and keeps disapearing if i try to move it in that window, unless i click on the desktop and go back to the window....
what causes this? I know its only a software gltich or the mouse itself but cant be anyhting major but still its annoying, i heard others are having some of the same problems, any solution?

Ok I had the same problem when I got mt new DCG5. The MM would think I was holding the button down all the time among other wierd things. It cleared up after I did my usual reinstall to clean all the apps off I don't want that come stock. Not sure if that helps but it did go away so it wasn't a bad mouse like I originallt thought.

  • Mac Mini and Bluetooth Recent Problems (Mighty Mouse, Wireless Keyboard)

    Hello there,
I have an issue with my Mac Mini.
We had a storm here recently, so I switched my Mac off. After that, I turned it on, but to my surprise my Wireless Mighty Mouse and Wireless Keybord do not function any more. The green dot under the mouse nad keyboard flashes for a few seconds and turns off. I tried to plug my regular mouse and keyboard but it seems the do not work too. Any solutions?

i dont know if you have another mac around but have you tried repairing the disk by putting it into Target disk mode and hooking up another mac to it? if nothing else, try putting the install CD/DVD and boot from there by holding down "c" as it boots. if that works then it may just be a bad BT card. if it doesnt work then you may have bad usb ports. i hope you have applecare!
a tip for bluetooth HIDs, spread them apart. you will experience problems on occasion where their signals get crossed and they fail to sync right.
by the way, if you went the extra mile to turn off your mac because you were concerned about it, then why didnt you just unplug it from the outlet?

  • Mighty Mouse scroll ball problems

I wondered if anyone could help me with a scrolling issue with the mighty mouse. Some days scrolling works vertically up and down and other times just one direction. I dont believe it is due to dirt in the mouse - it seems software related and is sporadic in its operation. Any advise you could give would be welcome
    Thanks
    Nick

DP, that is what worked best for me in the past.
After months of problems with the scrolling ball, and after trying all the suggestions found on the web, this method of using a white sheet of paper was an excellent one: my MM was again clean and working as if it was new!
However, be careful about it: don't push too much when running the MM upside down. Eventually, yes, the gunk will come out, but the ball would go down-inside the case if pressed too hard for too long. It happened to me when using this method for a second time, and I was in the need to disassemble the device in order to correct this, and I think that's exactly what I was trying to avoid in the first place.
    Hope it helps.
    JJ

  • Mighty Mouse scroll ball problem

I have had this Mighty Mouse for about a year and a half and the only problem has been the scroll ball. Every once in a while it won't scroll down. I was told to hold it upside down and rub the ball good with a wool cloth. Basically every time it did the trick. Now it won't scroll down anymore (it scrolls everywhere else though). Is there something broken inside? Is there anyway to take it apart? Not being able to scroll down is quite annoying and I'd love to be able to do it again.
Scrolling down, the ball moves but doesn't make the little clicking like sound like it does in any other direction. Any advice?

Hi. Sometimes using a clear spirit such as denatured alcohol (or vodka...) instead of the water suggested here
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302417
helps - but I've had one that wouldn't be fixed, and was replaced. Good Luck.
