Mighty Mouse: assign keyboard shortcuts

Is it possible to assign specific keyboard shortcuts to mighty mouse buttons? For example, I would like to click the scroll ball and have it send command-H (to hide the frontmost application), and I would like to click the left/right buttons at the same time to send command-W (to close the frontmost window).
I have a third party mouse set up to do this (using the third party control panel) on my macbook, but I just got an imac and it doesn't seem that the mighty mouse can do this...

You can assign keystrokes to buttons with software, such as SteerMouse

but the Mighty Mouse does not support left and right simultaneously. It has a single switch, and uses a proximity sensors to determine if it's a left or right click.

Assign keyboard shortcut to applescript

I have setup custom keyboard shortcuts before (Finder > Secure Empty Trash) but I can't seem to get a shortcut setup for an applescript in the applescript menu. The appropriate shortcut is displayed in the menu but when I press the shortcut the script isn't invoked. Has anyone been able to get this setup for an applescript? Any ideas on what could be wrong?

You get a copy of FastScripts from Red Sweater software. (last I checked, App store doesn't carry it)
It'll let you assign keyboard shortcuts to scripts or Apps through i's Preferences Menu item,
There are other Apps, such as Quicksilver, that'll allow similar assignments.
Apple's own 'Script Menu' does not allow them.
FastScripts is what I use. It's cheap, or free, and gets the job done.

Mighty Mouse and keyboard bluetooth drop

I have spent the past 2 days restarting my computer to get it to recognize bluetooth mighty mouse and keyboard for imac. Now it see's neither, even with brand new batteries in each. Have had to revert to older keyboard and mouse (both bluetooth). Ideas?

Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and Keyboard not working in Win XP!

Hi All,
I simply cannot get my Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and Keyboard to work in Win XP via Bootcamp! The bluetooth icon appears in the tray and even shows that they are connected but they do nothing at all. One thing to note is that they show up as connected but with no password. Could this be the problem? If I reconnected the two with new passcodes for XP, would they still work when I reboot in OSX?

Assigning keyboard shortcuts to actions not working

I have two actions that I use quite often. I assigned keyboard shortcuts to them in the actions dropdown menu. However whenever I press the shortcut keys, nothing ever happens. I have tried changing the modifier key combinations......nada. If some has any suggestions, I sure would appreciate them.

Most F keybaord shortcuts are assigned to something already in Illustrator or by your OS, so you may have a conflict.
System preferences >> keyboard >> (CHECK) Use all F1, F2 ...

Assigning keyboard shortcuts to imported files?

Is there a way to assign keyboard shortcuts to audio files imported into the Waveform editor? (the files that appear in the "Files" frame)
Because I notice this is possible with, say, workspaces, and was hoping I could assign certain shortcuts to imported file 1, imported file 2, imported file 3 etc.

There is no way to do this currently -- no one knows if it it will be in the next release, but judging from comments here is it a much-requested feature.

you need a 3rd party application launcher for that. Google Quicksilver, Butler, iKeys or Quickeys.

It's a bit confusing, but you cannot assign a keyboard short-cut to launch an app. That window is for assigning a keyboard shortcut to an EXISTING menu command in the app you selected, if that menu command does not have a keyboard shortcut already.
So if you select System Preference as the app, and enter Menu Title of "About System Preferences" and enter Opt-Cmd-A as the shortcut, once you close and reopen System Preferences, Opt-Cmd-A will open the About System Preferences window, which is an existing command under the File menu that previously did not have a keyboard shortcut.
You may be able to do what you want with a macro program like Quickeys.

Script works in Word 2008 but can't assign keyboard shortcut

Since I must have emacs keystrokes on those fortunately rare occasions when I have to use Word 2008, and because there is no explicit "delete character" command in Word (since there's already a built in keystroke for it, presumably) I've written a simple script that activates the delete key:

I have put this in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Word Script Menu Items so that it shows up in the script menu in Word. If I select the script from the menu via the mouse, it works just fine and deletes the character to the right of the cursor. However, if I try to assign a Word-specific keyboard shortcut (the usual emacs keystroke Ctrl-d, of course) using the Keyboard & Mouse preference pane to this macro it simply doesn't work. "^D" shows up next to the name of the script in the Word script menu, so the shortcut appears to be registering, and the little script menubar icon even flashes blue when I hit Ctrl-d, but nothing happens; the script just does not seem to run.
Any help appreciated. I really need to have this keystroke to be able to use Word and remain reasonably happy about it.

Assigning Keyboard Shortcuts to Styles

In the previous version of Pages one could assign a keyboard shortcut to a style. I can't find this feature in the new version relesed today. Is it missing or hidden?

Honestly, I'm livid.
I paid for Pages and iWork because, in my opinion, it was the best word processor on the market. It was lightweight, versitile, customizable, and fast.
Version 5.0, however, looks more refined, but is slow, clunky, and difficult. Beyond the missing keyboard shortcuts:
Why does it take 3 clicks to change the paragraph style?
Why does it take two clicks, mousing down on a flatly-designed hover menu to come to an arrow, that you need to click, and then carefully mousing further to the right, followed by a click, to enforce the paragraph style while the Update button, in bright blue, is seldom used.
You can't edit the text in a hyperlink without clicking on it first. I can't believe this design desicion. Even the webform I'm tying in right now allows me to edit the text in a hyperlink without an overlay.
That the filenames are the same has made backwards compatability impractical if you work on a team.
This is shameful and lazy. Google Docs, an online-only editor, has better keyboard shortcuts, useability, and cross-format compatibility. I preferred Pages '09 over any iteration of Google Docs, but now I find myself inclined to open up a web browser before opening up Pages 5.0—even on slow Internet connections.
Apple: please, please fix this. Or, update Pages '09 to be forward-compatible. Or hire me so I can do it myself. Yes, it bothers me that much.

Assigning keyboard shortcut to menu subitem

Dear Apple Discussion,
how do I go about assigning a keyboard shortcut to a menu subitem. Specifically I would like to assign a keyboard shortcut to one of the other Terminal Window (Shell->New Window->Basic) types instead of having to change the default one all the time.
I already know about the System Preferences ->Keyboard & Mouse->Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, but how do I do subitems?

Are you saying you were able to assign a keyboard shortcut to the Basic shell (or any other non-default one) in Leopard?
There do seem to be some bugs with my install - even though I did a clean install. I can't change the system language for some reason and my periodic UNIX script's no longer work either...

Mac Mini and Bluetooth Recent Problems (Mighty Mouse, Wireless Keyboard)

I have an issue with my Mac Mini.
We had a storm here recently, so I switched my Mac off. After that, I turned it on, but to my surprise my Wireless Mighty Mouse and Wireless Keybord do not function any more. The green dot under the mouse nad keyboard flashes for a few seconds and turns off. I tried to plug my regular mouse and keyboard but it seems the do not work too. Any solutions?

i dont know if you have another mac around but have you tried repairing the disk by putting it into Target disk mode and hooking up another mac to it? if nothing else, try putting the install CD/DVD and boot from there by holding down "c" as it boots. if that works then it may just be a bad BT card. if it doesnt work then you may have bad usb ports. i hope you have applecare!
a tip for bluetooth HIDs, spread them apart. you will experience problems on occasion where their signals get crossed and they fail to sync right.
by the way, if you went the extra mile to turn off your mac because you were concerned about it, then why didnt you just unplug it from the outlet?

Mighty Mouse causing keyboard problems?

I just recently bought a wireless Mighty Mouse, and, after having installed it, all of my F buttons (dim screen, brighten screen, expose, dashboard, etc.) on my MacBook's keyboard are incorrect. My forward one track button is now the expose, and my volume up button is the dashboard. Aside from those and one or two others, the rest don't even do anything when pressed. I tried going to my keyboard/mouse preferences and restoring everything to it's default setting, but that did nothing. I also tried moving said F keys back to their original settings/keys, which I did succeed in, partially, but my volume up, volume down, mute, track forward, pause/play, track backward, keyboard brighten, keyboard dim, screen brighten, and screen dim keys still do nothing.
You could probably guess that this is extremely annoying, so, all answers are greatly appreciated.

Bootcamp, Mighty Mouse and Keyboard not working

Hi All,
I just install yesterday Windows 7 (Ultimate 64bits) by Bootcamp in my iMac 21" (bought in 2013).
During the installation, the Mighty Mouse and the keyboard were not working (except the first W7 screens, selecting partition and language), and now, installation finished, i got to use an external keyboard to select username and password, because Mighty Mouse and Wireless Keyboard are not working with Windows.
I restart the computer using OSX and both are working fine.
Could you please help me?

seems like my mighty mouse scroll ball stopped working. it can only go up and not down or side to side. checked all the settings in mouse prefs look normal. any suggestions? also my keyboard f keys arent working.f10-f11 specifically? is my keyboard and mouse dead?
