Mighty mouse freezing my system

I have accidently pressed down on the front of my mouse, near the trackball, and the system has completely frozen. I had to use the power off button to shut down and restart.
I have stopped using the Mighty Mouse and gone to a wireless mouse.

Yup, ever since loading the mighty mouse driver this m.mouse will every now and then freeze - you can move it but it will not select anything or perform any mouse function. This happends on a daily basis usually when dragging things. Since you can't select restart the only option is to press the computer restart button. Trying to force quite all programs and relaunch the finder also does not remedy the problem. Any one found an answer yet or is it wait for update time. Does Apple know about this ? FYI I'm on Mac G5 with 2.5 ghz and 4 GB RAM, i Have Aurora Pipe PCI video card installed and Lacie firewire 800 card too. Os 10.4.2

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse "freezes", but ___

I've had this a couple times with my previous 20", where the Bluetooth wireless mouse did nothing, yet my Wacom tablet / pen was fine.
But this time, w/ my new 24" , it was one restart, then another. . and no change. But a shutdown snapped it out of it.
I'm not at all versed in crashlogs & such, but I'm foolishly hoping it's a certain, concise symptom.
More likely it could be any of a dozen things, right ?

    Jen,
I had the same problem, though oddly enough, it affected only the non-administrator accounts on my iMac. Thinking the problem might be software related, or he result of transfering account information from my old iMac, I erased and reinstalled the operating system. When this did not solve the problem, I contacted Apple support, and they took me through the usual self-help step (e.g. clearing the NVRAM). Eventually, at Apple's suggestion, I took my iMac in to the local Apple store, where they ran some tests, but could not find a problem. They swapped out my wireless Mighty Mouse, but the problems continued. I contacted Apple again, and they arranged to send out a support person (to my home) to replace the Bluetooth module and logic board. After a day of considering this, I called Apple, and asked that they simply replace my iMac (it was but thirty days old), and they agreed to do so. My new iMac is enroute.
I know Apple appears not to agree, but I think the problem is with Leopard. If it was a hardware problem, it should also have affected my administrator account.

  • Mighty Mouse control in System Prefs/Keyboard & Mouse

After trying out SteerMouse and USB Overdrive shareware, Apple's mouse control for Mighty Mouse disappeared. I reinstall Mighty Mouse software from the CD that came with it but no luck! Help!
I've removed SteerMouse and USB Overdrive and still can't see Apple mouse control software.

I fixed the problem the hard way by reinstalling new OS X 10.4 while preserving my settings. That solved the problem.

  • Mighty mouse freezes

I have my new iMac Intel since a couple of weeks and it is really wonderful. One thing that happens though, is that the mouse freezes from time to time without any apparent reason (at least to me).
I need to unplug the USB cable from the key board, then it works fine again. The only 3rd party software is eyeTV which seems much more stable with the latest upgrade on 2.0.1.
    Anyone any ideas?
    thanks,
    Andreas

There are two different threads addressing the same problem here ( NB: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=340067&tstart=30 ). This last thread claimed to be 'Solved' but I don't see a solution!
Why? I have been sent a new keyboard, still have disconnection problems. And I'm not going to go searching for an old school nasty G5 keyboard!
Some theorized about the problem stemming from unpaired RAM: this is not the case...mine is paired.
It seems to be a problem with the USB ports (or OS X's use of them). Let's hope it is indeed software. Apple calls this a known issue. 10.4.6 is already accessible to developers ( see http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0602macosx1046.html ) and apparently it's large...we can only keep our fingers crossed.
Oh, and I've had some Apple Remote / Front Row lockup probs, too. But other than that, I love it! Great speed.

  • Mighty Mouse Problems

    Greetings all - I have a new iMac 2.4, 24 inch running OSX 10.5.1.
Have been having problems with my cordless Mighty Mouse - basically the right click function stops working. It just suddenly doesnt work anymore (ie it just does the same as left click)
I have tried changing the batteries, reselecting the secondary button option in System Preferences, restarting the computer and nothing fixes it - it just starts working again when it wants to.
Now (since yesterday) it suddenly starts moving really slowly - Ill move the mouse at normal speed but the cursor moves slowly and jittery across the screen. Again, this just fixes itself when it wants too.
Any ideas - I love the form of the Mighty Mouse but its performance so far has left a lot to be desired - might be time to bring out the trusty old Logitech again.

check out threads/forums under "mighty mouse freezes". You'll find some dialogue, perhaps ways to solve there....

  • Mighty Mouse software problem

Hello guys, I recently got my mighty mouse with my Macbook Pro. When I first used the mighty mouse with the system, everything was fine. But then I installed the CD just to see what would happen, and it deleted the default 10.4 driver for the might mouse. Now I just get the options in sys prefs for a regular multi button mouse, instead of all the customization options that I used to have before I installed the software.

Use Pacifist to examine the receipt created in the /Library/Receipts/ folder to get a list of the items you need to extract, and then use it to extract those items from your computer's original disks. Next, rerun the Mac OS X and Security updates you previously applied to the system, and then throw away the Mighty Mouse receipt.

  • Bluetooth Mighty Mouse keeps freezing after upgrading to Leopard

My bluetooth mighty mouse has frequent, intermittent freezes (which appear to be a loss of sync to the iMac) after upgrading to Leopard (now 10.5.1) from 10.4.11 on my iMac 24" alum body. This mouse was rock solid on my iMac running Tiger. Luckily I do have a corded mouse which I've been forced to use the past week or so.
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Thanks.

I was just trying to help my Dad with the same exact issue (Mighty Mouse stops working on waking from sleep & trying to open bluetooth prefs at that point causes the system to lock up. Have to hold down power button to reboot)
Oddly I have Leopard on my iMac 2.16 Core 2 Duo and have no issues with my Mighty Mouse.
Hopefully someone comes up with an answer .... My Dad is 80 and just bought a new Powerbook and Mighty Mouse. It's hard to explain why the mouse doesn't work.

  • Mighty Mouse/Mice "Freezes" On Windows 7 w/ iMac... Solutions?

    Hi.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit on a Mac OSX 10.7 using Bootcamp 3.0.
I'm using an iMac 21.5" Late 2009 model.
There seems to be some connectivity issues with Mighty Mouse's Bluetooth and Windows 7.
As I tend to move the mouse, it begins to "glitch up" and freeze... this happens randomly
at any given moment for a couple of seconds.Sort of a jerkiness motion. Before it would make
    a "BEEP" sound.
I've already taken some measures to solving this issue.
    1. Through services.msc, I set "connectivity" to Automatic
    2. Through the Bluetooth settings on system tray, it does NOT alert for connectivity.
Despite these resolution attempts it still doesn't seem to work.
Does anyone have a solution to make the Mighty Mice work properly?
    Thanks for your help.

There is a Boot Camp forum, because your issue only seems to be with in Win 7 I'd recommend reposting there.

  • Mighty Mouse - Mouse/keyboard system preferences gone

I have a bluetooth mighty mouse instaled in my computer but now I cannot access the mouse/keyboard preferences in the System preferences. They do not appear. The mouse is working just fine but I cannot change anything in the preferences. And I cannot watch the state of charge of the batteries either. I cannot see nothing. That tab is all grey now.
I tried also to do so via the bluetooth preferences but when I ask to open the Bluetooth preference of the mouse a window appears and says that the mouse preferences are not shown because I haven't any mouse connected to my computer.
I remember that when I had access I changed the name of the mouse.
I already deleted the connection and tried to re-install it again. But the mouse appears with the same name, and the problem persists.
    Please... Any bright soul?

I have a slightly different problem: My bluetooth Mighty Mouse works in a basic mode (primary & secondary button, scroll wheel) but the side buttons and scroll buttons do not work. In the Keyboard & Mouse preferences, I have Dashboard set up for the scroll button and Expose set up for the side buttons. They do not work. If I set up the primary or secondary buttons for Dashboard or Expose, it works. In the Bluetooth tab, the Bluetooth Mouse Name is blank and Battery Level is grayed out. In the Bluetooth Preferences, it shows Mighty Mouse connected. Any ideas? I am running OS X 10.5.4 (but it didn't work in 10.5.3 either)

  • My mighty mouse has died(sort of)  and I have a system prefs conundrum

The mighty mouse when pressed now registers every click as a request for dashboard ( as I set it up in sys prefs to be centre button for dashboard) now the mouse is no longer working correctly and will only register centre clicks ...
How can I set the system prefs to change the mouse to one click only , without using the mouse?
At least then I can continue to use the mouse till I can get the shop/delivery next week for a new mouse (not a mighty muse tho !!).
    cheers
    esti

If you have a keyboard with a numeric pad, press the Option key 5 times. If you then hear a series of 5 clicks, you've activated the feature in +System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse+ that lets you use the numeric keypad instead of the mouse. The "5" is click, the other numeric keys will move the mouse.
I think this feature is OFF by default, though, so if you didn't activate it while the mouse was working, you can't turn it on now.
Otherwise, you need to get or borrow an actual mouse.

  • System prefs not recognizing Mighty Mouse

I am working on a G5 1.6 Ghz 17" iMac, and have a Mighty Mouse... the mouse scrolls and I can use the right click feature, but system prefs will not recognize the mighty mouse, so I cannot configure it. Nothing happens when I squeeze the side buttons, either.
In system prefs, it just shows the screen for the normal mouse. I thought this was weird, so I plugged the mouse into an old G3 (400Mhz) PowerMac. It worked fine, and system prefs ran fine, there. Both machines are running on 10.4.2.
    Any clues would be appreciated!!

It didn't come with a CD – it just came with one of the new G5s that my company ordered, and the IT person gave the mouse to me to use on my G5.

  • Apple Mighty Mouse problems with OS Leopard

Ever since I upgrade to Leopard a fortnight ago, I've had problems with my Apple wireless mouse (Mighty Mouse, which I bought 2 months ago). When my computer wakes up from sleep, my mouse stops working. I would then go to System Preference - Bluetooth Preferences, but the computer would get stuck; I would have to Force Quit out of System Preferences. Then, when I shut down the computer, it would go through the normal shutdown process but get stuck at the blank screen with the spinning gear icon; it would stay there for more than 10 minutes (which is the longest I waited before doing a hard shutdown). I have re-paired the mouse with my computer numerous times, recalibrated the machine with the assistance of the Apple helpdesk tech support, but still my mouse would not work when my Macbook Pro wakes up from sleep. Even the tech-support person at apple did not know why my computer gets stuck when I try to shut down. The annoying thing is that it only happens when my computer wakes up from sleep; otherwise, it works fine. My mouse worked perfectly when I had OS 10.4. Hopefully it is bluetooth bug that apple will fix with a new 10.5 update. Can anybody advise?

Same issues for me with my iMac.
I migrated from Windows to MacBook (about 14 months ago).
I was so pleased with Apple, and decided to ditch my PC for an iMac about three months ago.
Sadly Leopard has not proved to be a bug free stable OS for me, and I am sorely disappointed.
The Mighty Mouse BT issue is incredibly annoying for me.
Interestingly, sometimes when I do manage a restart, and it freezes, my menu bar indicates that my internet connection is by Airport (a known bug as well, I think?). My iMac connects via Ethernet, and Airport is switched off. So is there a link? Co-incidence?
Bottom line: I am very disappointed with these frustrating bugs, and Apple appears not to be listening.
My MacBook also some sporadic issues: when I wake it from sleep, sometimes the svreen goes blank, and unresponsive, and requires a restart. I use a trackpad.
Leopard has some bad bugs, and I feel very letdown by Apple.

  • BT keyboard and mouse freeze one or two times a day

New iMac, started freezing up about once or twice a day after a couple of weeks. Took a few occurrences to realise it was a KB/mouse problem rather than the computer itself. looking at forum posts it seems to be a common problem, though not often both devices at once. Powering the Mac off and then on again fixes the problem every time. Battery strength is good on both devices.
As suggested in several posts, I've tried removing the BT .plist file and rebooting. Assistant took some time to relocate the KB and mouse but managed eventually. However problem still recurring.
Next time it froze, plugged in a Logitech mouse which worked ok and the BT mouse started working immediately too (why would it do that?), but not the keyboard. BT Preferences say both devices connected, and paired and discoverable. Tried to run Set Up, says 'not found' (for mouse also, even though it's working). Turning the Mac off and on again restored normality.
Hung again twice today already. Following another post advice, I've removed Bluetooth from the Networking list (although it wasn't connected to anything). But it's just hung again while i was typing this (at least powering off then on again doesn't lose any data)
I'm new to Macs, so please excuse my descriptions of the problem being more anecdotal than technical. If anyone can suggest a logical course of action to resolve this problem, I'd be grateful.

I spent some time around to read all posts here and there.
I've got a brand new 20" imac with BT mighty mouse & a wired keyboard
My mouse used to freeze once or twice a day.
I used to type ctrl & space bar to open spotlight, type "bt" to get acces to bt panel in pref system, which was enough to reconnect.
I found two issues when reading things in forums:
Some people are facing a hardware issue with the metallic part behind the mouse cover being too folded to make a proper contact
Some other, like me, are facing a software issue. The problem appeared juste before 10,5,6 release, with an airport package.
I downloaded on apple website an older airport package and installed this:
    airport utility.app 5.3.2 (instead of 5.4.1)
airport base station agent.app 1.5 (instead of 1.5.1)
    com.apple.airportbasestationagent.plist dated 29may2008
These files are to be found there:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/AirPortUtility_5_3_2_forLeopard
And you'll need "pacifist" shareware to be allowed to install older versions
A bit complicate, but 3 days now and I didn't have any freezing!

  • Mighty Mouse Hangs on 10.6.1 Start UP

The "only" weird issue I have with the Snow Leopard 10.6.2 is when the Intel iMac
is cold (after being off all night) and I start. The startup sequence runs normal
until the mouse pointer is placed on the desktop and it freezes. I have to use the
button on the back to restart a second time. The 2nd restart always does the
trick and and the mouse works normal.
I have no idea what may be causing the corded Mighty Mouse to hang and I would
appreciate some suggestions. It is just an inconvenience to have to restart twice

If this is a wired mouse try a different USB port on startup. If that doesn't help
I don't have another port. I have the Mouse plugged into the keyboard as
all four USB port are dedicated to Printer, Keyboard (mouse), Serial to USB
adapter and an interface to digital com gear.
    Delete this file.
    com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist
Just trashed it and did a successful restart. Stay tuned for the cold start
test in the morning. The only setting selected in the System Preference/Mouse
was to activate the right click button.
Good tip..... I hope it works!

  • Mouse Freezing - Unable to click - Please Read!

My mac has been doing this at random times...
Basicly My mouse will still move, but i cant click on anything... my keyboard still works great, but no mouse input
I can solve the problem by opening up the force quit window and the closing the force quit window, without actually force-quiting anything...
    I am using a Microsoft Intelli-Mouse
    Please help?

If it helps you can use the keyboard to get into system preferences and turn on mouse keys in universal access then the num pad works as a mouse with 5 being click. I've been doing this when my Logitech USB mouse freezes.
However it still happens with my mighty mouse, so I'm fairly sure it's a software problem.
Have you used anything like Onyx or Tinker Tool recently to change settings, as I feel it may be the cause.
    Good luck.
