Mighty mouse has lost functions!!

Hi everyone, i havent been able to find warranty info on the corded mighty mouse that came with my machine... How long is the mouse and keyboard warranty? Well the main problem.. is that the side buttons.. (default to Expose) and the 3rd click when you just click the mouse by pushing the scroll ball makes the dashboard work.. well those two functions quit working, i reset pram.. mouse isnt dirty.. scroll wheel works fine and left and right click work. but no side buttons or button on mouse, i did find one strange thing. if im in safari... and i click down on the mouse ball.. like i want to make dashboard come up.. and start to move the mouse around the entire page moves. (kinda like a PC) any ideas??? Any help would be appreciated.. I am running leopard.. 10.5.1 I am under my year of warranty... can i just take the mouse in to my apple store and swap it out??

ok, i went into the apple store and they did replace my mouse with the newer non grey buttons on the side.. they are now white.. But it still didnt fix it.. Leopard was messed up, i did a fresh install of leopard and everything works fine.. I still wonder though... what got corrupted??

  • Mighty Mouse Has NOTHING Mighty

Am I the only crazy one to think that either OS X or more likely Mighty Mouse is a drag...
Right clicking with the index finger raised is one thing that one can get use to but it is more or less random whether OSX/Mighty Mouse understands that one have actually right clicked. Plugging in a logitec mouse takes care of the problem and right click remains a right click instead of a fifty fifty percent chance of getting the right click...
I have 3 Mighty mice and they all show the same problem...
My only question to Apple should they read this is:
HOW HARD, on a scale from 1-2, can it be to NOT publish a hardware that SIMPLY does not work reliably...
This is bad advertisement for your coming Iphone

To ensure a right-click, I now click pretty close to the right edge of the mouse. Otherwise, the mouse often misinterprets it as a click.
If the Mighty Mouse hadn't come in the box with my Mac Pro, I would not have bought it at all. Cheaper traditional mice work much better. The one innovation the Mighty Mouse has going for it is the scroll ball, but even then, Apple has pulled us back 10 years to where we used to have to clean the mouse ball or it would skip or stop working.
The Mighty Mouse is one of those Apple products that causes the more religious and less reasonable Mac users to constantly apologize for and rationalize the Mighty Mouse's irrational behaviors. If the Mighty Mouse was a Microsoft product, the Mac religious would have slammed the design decisions as "typical Microsoft incompetence."

  • My keyboard (wired) has lost functionality on the music PLAY/PAUSE, FORWARD and BACK, and VOLUME KEYS. They do NOTHING. All else is fine. How can I reassign them correctly? (Don't see those functions listed with System Settings/Keybard shortcuts).

    Crayolla,
Try doing a SMC and PRAM resets. Sometimes it takes 2-3 attempts for them to work so be a little persistent if they fail the first time.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • My Bluetooth Mighty Mouse has totally stopped working

I have a bluetooth Mighty Mouse that seems to have stopped working. I was using it on a trip over in Guam. Then I came back to the states and it was in my suitcase/unused for several weeks with the batteries in it. Now that we have moved into an apartment, I would like to start using it again. But when I turn it on by sliding the little slider switch on the bottom, the little green light doesn't blink any more and it doesn't seem to be recognized by my computer. I have tried it with recharged batteries and other batteries, but no luck. Does anyone have a suggestion for me? I would really like to get this thing working without having to buy a new mouse. I have noticed that there is a little white tab just above where the batteries go. When the back cover is on, it appears that the slider switch somehow pushes on this little white tab. But with the cover off, this little white tab has some play in it (up and down) and can rattle around. Could there be something under this tab that is stuck down? Any advice would be appreciate! Thanks!

    Hello ba:
No light=no power to the device.
If you happen to be near an Apple store, take the mouse in and have them try it on one of their systems. I do not think there would be any charge for that.

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse has stopped selecting, cutting or pasting

My batteries ran out two days ago. I changed the batteries but since then my wireless Mighty Mouse will not select text, cut or paste. It has other erratic behavior. Any help and advice welcomed.

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse has "loose" top shell

Has anyone else observed/been annoyed by the "looseness" of the top shell on the Wireless Mighty Mouse? I've noticed that the top shell has a definite "give" to it that preceeds the intended click of the mouse. This results in an audible "click" as you hear the plastic top shell come into contact with the base of the mouse, as well as a physical "give" that throws off the whole clicking motion and otherwise makes this $70 mouse seem like a cheap plastic toy... I posted a video (ironically filmed using my built-in isight) of the whole thing. It's the first time I've posted a video online so make me feel competent and take a look and see if this is what you're suffering from. If there is a serious issue with this, maybe we could take this info back to apple...

  • Magic mouse has lost the cursor

Magic Mouse scrolls and responds to clicks but has lost the cursor.  Eating batteries very often as well, related issue?

This does happen occasionally when the batteries are low and the memory (RAM) is inadequate.  This article may be helpful; read it and check it out.

  • My mighty mouse has died(sort of)  and I have a system prefs conundrum

The mighty mouse when pressed now registers every click as a request for dashboard ( as I set it up in sys prefs to be centre button for dashboard) now the mouse is no longer working correctly and will only register centre clicks ...
How can I set the system prefs to change the mouse to one click only , without using the mouse?
At least then I can continue to use the mouse till I can get the shop/delivery next week for a new mouse (not a mighty muse tho !!).
    cheers
    esti

If you have a keyboard with a numeric pad, press the Option key 5 times. If you then hear a series of 5 clicks, you've activated the feature in +System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse+ that lets you use the numeric keypad instead of the mouse. The "5" is click, the other numeric keys will move the mouse.
I think this feature is OFF by default, though, so if you didn't activate it while the mouse was working, you can't turn it on now.
Otherwise, you need to get or borrow an actual mouse.

  • Bluetooth mouse has lost some functionality

Suddenly my scroll button will only scroll UP the page, not down. There is no specific preference for direction, so it's set for vertical and horizontal. Anybody got any suggestions as to how to get it to work correctly - which it's done up until today. Thanks

i have the same problem occasionally with my BT MM, what ive found to work is to seal your lips around the scroll button and give it a sharp blow, avoid spitting into it obviously, but a couple of short strong bursts should do the job. that and just turning the mouse off and on usually restores it to normal functionality
this is truly the most annoying aspect of the MM, it drives me nuts when it happens but it does go away

  • Magic Mouse has lost all 'touch capability' after Time Machine restore

    Hi all,
Yesterday I did a system restore to my 17' MPB on Snow Leopard, once restored my Magic Mouse lost all scroll and swipe functionality.
I've searched older threads and seen a suggestion about deleteing a systempreferences file which I did but it did not work.
Any other suggestions please? My Mac is fully updated software wise and this is quite fustrating given the Mouse is only 2 weeks old!
    Thanks!

    Hi again:
I don't want to generalize as some +"clean up"+ things can actually slow a system. If the system is slow everywhere, it could be lack of HD space (you should have 10-15% free at all times), memory, or many other things.
I have a program called "Cocktail" which I rarely use (troubleshooting only), but does have some powerful GUI links to all sorts of things. However, I suggest people use this sort of software carefully as one can do damage.
I run a +"plain vanilla"+ system and do not have problems (superstitiously touching wood).
Unless you routinely use/change very large files, OS X takes care of "defragging" automatically.
I'd prefer to never have to format and start over.
As I said, I have NEVER erased and installed an OS X system to address system issues. I have restored to test both my cloning software and Time Machine.
Macs running OS X perform system maintenance processes automatically in the background (unlike Windows, as I am sure you know).

  • HT3226 My Mighty Mouse has stopped scrolling upward.  Everything else seems to be working well.  Can this be corrected? Yes, I've cleaned it several times, as per instructions.

My mouse will not scroll UP.  I've cleaned it several times, as per instructions, and all other functions are fine.  Can this be fixed or do I have to get another mouse?

The you tube demo on how to dismantle the mouse lacked a few details, but it got the job done.  Very tricky getting everything back together, but it worked!  Amazing how much trouble a little bit of lint can cause.  Thanks for the advice.  My advice:  be sure you have a well lit, soft non-slip surface and a source of magnification.

  • My Magic Mouse has lost the Magic

My new iMac ( late 2009 edition ) purchased less then three weeks ago came with a BlueTooth Mouse and it worked "right out of the box".
Now it barely works missing several functions it previously had.
When I first started iwent into SystemPreferences/Mouse there was a live demonstration/video.
The video is now gone and when I go to second page of Mouse preference the paddle wheel spins searching for that mouse.
I've installed two different sets of new batteries, switched the mouse off and restarted the mac, switched the mouse on and restarted. Trashed the preference for the mouse in my Users folder.
I can drive the mouse pointer all over the desktop but when I am in window on some or another web site i can't scroll up or down without using those side bars.
I need help please to bring my BlueTooth mouse back to full functionality and to see that video again.

This is the stand-alone combo system update for 10.6.2.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959
As a test, you can also try creating a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account. This will help isolate the cause better. In the new account, if the mouse works normally, then the cause is likely to be in your normal user account. If same problem recurs in the new account, then the cause is likely to be at the system (OS) level, or perhaps related to a hardware problem.

  • Mighty Mouse Will Not Function in Firefox / Lotus Notes

I am accessing Lotus Notes through Domino Web Access Release 6.5.6. This is my only choice to get into work email. I am using the latest version of Firefox. I have the mouse set up with primary button on the left and secondary button on the right to imitate right click. It works everywhere else but I can not get an email to open by highlighting and clicking or double clicking left, right or center. However it does recognize my clicking on the menu tabs so that if I click "reply" or "forward" it calls up the email as to reply or forward. I can read it at that point, but pretty frustrating. There is no "open" tab on the Notes menu. I also tried Universal Access in system preferences to turn on the keyboard to act a mouse where "5" is enter, that did not work either. Anyone have any ideas? Appreciate it : )

    Hi Stephen
Not sure I understand your problem but perhaps there is something in my recent post that will help. First I would replace the Targus with the D-Link adaptor. I learned about D-Link from others in the forum who said it was essential.
Here is the link to my post
    Hope this helps

  • Firefox 31.0 has lost functionality for one user only. No menu dropdown. Win 8.1.

The primary user has no problems and nor did the second user until yesterday when, returning after a break, Firefox opened with a new tab, no menu bars and no menu button drop-down screen. If I clicked on Alt+menu bar or bookmarks bar, they appeared temporarily. It worked if I typed a url into the search box and I could add bookmarks but they would disappear on shutdown.
I have tried a reset through Profile Manager and, in desperation, deleted the user completely. After rebooting the PC and creating a new user, Firefox behaves exactly the same way, except that all the bookmarks have been deleted.
The primary user still has no problem with Firefox but it seems there is some basic problem with the addition of a second user.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

The folder for the second user may have corrupt files in it.
